Reminds me of when Jeff Gorden had the T Rex Car. As the rules were written the car did not break them, but after the race. Nascar Officials went to 24s garage. Said nice car, don't bring it next week because it's no longer legal. 😂
It actually is illegal in real F1, ever since Mark Webber shortcut the chicane in Korea to ensure he made it around to start his flying lap before time expired in the session. After that they added a rule that cars must follow the track on in and out laps. I'm not sure the current rule could penalise the towed team mate for it though, so the loophole kinda exists.
@@DanielHarveyDyer The tow thing only exists in theory or in a game though, irl it's not possible to do that because its impossible to go faster and get back ahead off the track. This made me think, but I can't even recall a single track that would allow something like this to happen, even if the track layout would allow something like that the off track grip wouldn't be there to get back ahead and gain anything from it. Maybe it would be possible in ascari if it wasn't gravel off track, or maybe skipping eau rouge-raidillon that would be a triple straight long tow lol. Would be inceredibly dangerous to do though, insta raceban territory thing for sure :D
honestly with 3:27 id say id say its a track designer's fault who thought itd be a good idea to have a corner setup like this with no barriers to stop out of control cars from meeting other cars headon
Good call on that Spa stock car race. I, too, hate it when I'm trying to go for a 260mph airborne pass and the guy in front refuses to leave enough space. Dangerous driving at its worst from the yellow car.
As someone that doesn't know shit about racing but is enjoying AC and RBR on his little Xbox pad, I always learn a lot from these videos, like "F1 cars can fly". Thanks, Jimmers!
Occasionally they try to do it irl too 🤣 Look up "Mark Webber flying" and you'll see him fly an F1 car and an old Mercedes LMP car, red bull really did give him wings 🤣
13:50 - Well, it's a bit more complicated than that. iRacing's code states "It is the responsibility of the slower car to maintain a consistent line. It is strongly recommended that a slower car being lapped makes every reasonable effort to facilitate a safe pass." (Rule 7.4.2). So switching lines to defend from a lapping car, and making their lives difficult to make a pass, could presumably leave them open to a report.
Had a moment last night - racing for 2nd place, I'd just overtaken the other guy, and then he divebombed me in the next corner. He said I didn't leave space - I said I didn't have to because he didn't have overlap by the time I began my turn in. We watched the replay together, with a few other spectators, and agreed that yes, there was no overlap, and I had the line for the corner. He apologised, I told him not to stress, and that I was just happy that there were people out there that do understand racing. Even though 6th was my final position, I left the server feeling pretty good.
9:41 i really appreciate Jimmers for treating the Borza clip same way as any other clip, we all know how people drive in this game but there's still people trying to have genuine fair racing (especially in private league and events). As a personal experience i've had many good races in FM6 and FM7, it might be low on the "simracing tier list" but both me and the people in those races were trying really hard to have some proper good racing. I wish some people would focus more on the racing itself rather than how realistic/"good" is the game used (i'm not looking at you FM8)

@@Incommensurabilities haha I've tried to get this message to him before (the first time was that pikes peak reaction video I think, may have been on twitter though)
I had to fight OBS a little bit because it recorded several videos in one game at a resolution other than the display, so I was clicking buttons and switches you couldn't see on the recorded screen. Definitely a nice feature, painful to notice after you have recorded two videos that took forever to make.
With that Yellow MX-5. One could also argue that the track is not fully safe. You should not be able to reach another part of the track by cutting like that and there should be a means to slow a car down, like a gravel trap.
There's a thing that a lot of people new to sim racing should learn. If you're on track with a driver who is significantly faster than you, rather than trying to be a hero and get into a pointless battle that ruins both your races, put your ego aside for a minute and tuck yourself in behind them. Try to follow closely for as many laps as you can; look at where they're braking, how they're positioning the car for the corner, the line they take, and where they're getting back on the throttle. Use it as an opportunity to improve your technique, your race craft, and ultimately your laptimes. Study, emulate, improve. You'll get better much quicker, and everyone will have a more fun time racing.
To anyone watching this and confused about the Miata crash at Summit: note that Jimmy's going over old videos. The video appears to be from 2022, which was before the grass update in mid-2023.
I started sim racing around 3 days ago, and after watching all of your sim racing stewards videos, I feel confident that I can completely miss Monza T1..
That first move truly angers me. There’s many people who go out of their way, and make their own lives more difficult in order to race others cleanly and fairly. Then you have someone who doesn’t give a toss and just punts you out the way and couldn’t care less. To me that doesn’t feel like a win, it’ll always feel like there’s an asterisk.
That sub is quickly filling in with a lot of people who think they know what they are talking about. They do not, in fact, know what they are talking about.
12:47 Blue flags aren’t only used in F1 for the leading cars lapping slower cars. They are also used for cars exiting the pits, to warn them if there are faster cars nearby. Any car leaving the pits can be shown blue flags. It doesn’t mean they have to let the other cars pass, it’s just a warning that there are cars which are currently faster than you, who are nearby. It’s most notable in places like Monza. I’ve seen many examples of viewers who don’t understand this, thinking that it means that they have to let others past when they are leaving the pits. A blue flag in F1 is not only used for cars who are being lapped. It’s a very common misunderstanding of blue flag rules in F1
Love these videos. That last one... I hate it, but I also rate it. The one with the MX-5s where the guy ends up going the wrong way, I'm only guessing but if it was a low split rookie race it's possible he just didn't know the track that well and thought he had to go left to rejoin there, if he had his FoV quite narrow he probably wouldn't have seen the others coming until he was well and truly committed. Just a thought. In any case that fast right hander where he initially goes off track is so evil, it's absolutely made to cause carnage when people run wide like that, especially with the old iRacing grass physics.

That head on collision definitely is gonna get you DQ'd and then perhaps they were only judging from the victim's POV they might levy harsher penalties but I think that it's quite clear that it was not intentional and/or maliciously reckless it seems like it's a situation where the driver got themselves a bit in over their head and ended up making the wrong split second decisions, in hindsight he probably was better off driving through and hitting the wall, he shouldn't have tried to turn to get off of the road again, and he shouldn't have hit the grass at that speed in the first place but all of that is easier said than done. If we were talking about real life racing there would definitely be a lot more cause for concern because people's lives are at risk but in real life we don't use a combination of butter and vasoline to lube up our grass either.
