Love this too, especially when she says, "so girl you better shut your mouth." Some of favorite songs are from 1963 when I was 13. Everything was so so new and magical.
1963 I was only 3 years old what do I know about this song? But I do know one thing this was one of my mother favorite song before she passed away. We had the 45 rpm record.
One of my all time favorites featuring the smooth voice of Earl-Jean McCrea. It was near the end of the doo wop era and like so many songs in that period, there was always a rpminent saxophone solo.
Heard this song for the first time at the USO at our Army base in Northern Japan, (Hokkaido), when I was 19. The harmony stood out and this song is just another addition of the great music that I got to enjoy during high school and my military service. Songs like this also reduce the amount of homesick many of us endured.
This group had the potential to surpass the more popular "girl groups" of their day, with that sultry contralto lead and tight AF harmonies. Damn shame that for whatever reasons, they didnt. this song has been in my ear since i was 5 wayyyyy back in '73. It was also in my moms ear in the 60's, and it stands the test of time. I wish we had heard more from these talented women. And that pic is 💯 not them. 😂
Don't say nothin' bad about my baby He's good to me And that's all I care about Don't you tell me my baby's just a playboy (It isn’t true) Don't you tell me my baby's just a playboy (That’s a lie) I won't listen to a single word you say (He's my guy) Don't you tell me my baby's just a playboy He's true He's true to me So, girl, you better shut your mouth (Everybody says he's lazy) But not when he's kissin' me (Everybody says he's crazy) Sure he's crazy Crazy about me, oh, yeah Don't say nothin' bad about my baby He's good He's good to me And that's all I care about
This is not a photo of The Cookies, it is a photo of The Dixie Cups. Both female vocal groups were trios, but The Cookies were from Brooklyn New York, while the Dixie Cups were from New Orleans Louisiana. Love the song though.
What a groove!! Was this recorded in NYC or L.A.? The band doesn't feel like the Wrecking Crew. I don't know what "spectral stereo conversion" is but.. this is very exciting in my good headphones!!
Sorry I found the picture on the internet & it said it was the Cookies. I would have to take down the whole video to change it so not worth it with this many views. I think someone else may have commented about this also so thanks for the info. Rog
@@davidlamb7524 I know. I was only kidding. The "Stand By Your Man" tune did really well back then. I try to write what people can feel: ua-cam.com/video/76OxSEgWN9c/v-deo.html. Let me know what you think. Thanks and take care.
@@davidlamb7524 Thanks so much, David. I agree that it has those elements, which is why I am having a hard time finding a devoted audience. It isn't easy being an anachronism!

“..so girl you better shutcho mouth!” Classic!
That’s got to be one of the greatest lines in rock music! 😂
What a schmohawk!
The nerve of Larry to use such language around a fine Mormon beautician!
Let's add that this was written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King. They were the hit makers for the Cookies.
They also wrote "Chains," another big hit for the Cookies. Not to detract from this, but I like "Chains" better.
They were the hit makers for all
Long ball Larry brought you here!

You must be very young. That said, it's a great song.
Such a pure voice the lead singer has.
Beautiful, clear lead & back-up vocals... w/ Great band. Simple. Straight to the point tune.

This Song Went To Number 7 On The Billboard Hot-100 Chart In 1963.
And #3 on the R&B chart!
I love this so much. Definitely remember this gem!
This Goffin & King composition provided the trio with their only top ten hit.

Thats the group The Dixie Cups in that picture. They sing "Going To The Chapel". Not The Cookies
Thanks
You´re right. "Chapel of Love" was their big hit.
The Cookies made an album with Bo Diddley. They sound great together.
Probably one of the finest girl group songs of all time!

I guess the poster couldn't locate an actual picture of the Cookies as the picture above are The Dixie Cups
60 years …
LD looked just like him.
Girl groups have come and gone over the years, but the ladies of the '50s and '60s were a happening bunch.
So girl you'd better shut your mouth. Best lyric ever 😂❤
These ladies in the thumbnail pic are not The Cookies. I would know because my late mother was the founder of the group
@2realformost That's right; those girls are The Dixie Cups.
Hey did we have a chat about your mom a few years back on that singing app after i had recorded a duet?
😊❤😊
Will n Jada!
This is a picture of the Dixie Cups
They had 2 .more good songs. Chains and I Never Dreamed.
Carol King is a Genius
I'm guessing that's Margaret Ross in the center of pic.
Those girls in the photo are The Dixie Cups (Chapel Of Love) not The Cookies. FYI
