    I agree
    What you’re saying about Quincy
    But remember from his perspective she was his safe haven when they were growing up as friends especially when he parents were arguing in the middle of the night. He knew she was there for him. So in college he was expecting the same. He is an only child and been selfish all his life.
    He was acting out talking about “ I have meeting with this guy” trying to be like his dad but realizing perfect image of his father was tainted..
    Monica almost because her mother with the Quincy situation not standing up for herself when Quincy was treating her poorly.
    So many layers to this situation

      Yes, there are so many layers to this situation. I don't understand why he couldn't just wait until the following night. She had already spent time with him and she would see him the following day. Like, what was she supposed to do? How was that so unforgivable? It's really just that he was hurt and didn't know how to cope.

    I don't like the 'let's be friends ' thing after a breakup. For me it's manipulative. I am all about finality.I can wish the Woman well,and love them from a distance. The 'oh that's my friend' game is a slippery slope..I can understand if two people co own a business,or have kids together..but besides that..nah .

    Friends. Yeahhhhh, I can't buy into the idea of Monica being a pick-me, as she was never male-centered. To the contrary, she was resentful to her mother for seemingly doing so.
    I think Monica was still finding her sea legs and has never had any other focus other than "ball is life", so having to navigate so many different things, then Quincy turning around and snatch their nascent romance away from her was jarring. She didn't have enough time to think through his nonsense and say fck that. She just wanted to cling to what was familiar to her as she navigated these new experiences.

  • @caliBornbEauty

    When Quincy got all cold on Monica when she had to leave for curfew, he reverted back to himself as a child getting beat at basketball by 'a girl' and pushing her down or when he dumped her when she didn't wanna ride on his bike.
    When Q started dogging Monica with Carrie, I think since he decided to drop out of school, He started trying to hurt Monica to have a reason to break up so he could leave for the NBA as a single man so he had nobody to disappoint when he inevitably starts succumbing to the lifestyle of a pro athlete (sleeping around) like his dad disappointed his mom.

    Friends
    I think in our youth, without a true practice in emotional intelligence, most of us probably were the Monica or Quincy.
    If I was in Monica's shoes, I might have been devastated too at that age, trying to salvage everything.
    With maturity now, I would immediately retreat from someone throwing unnecessary darts at me like that due to immaturity with handling adversity. If you are not conflict resolution based with healthy non-attacking verbiage...I'm out!!!
    Thanks for another great video of insight👏👏👏👏👏👏

    I think you could survive this type of heartbreak, it depends on the person. If I were in this situation, he would have to make the effort for reconciliation. The relationship seems one-sided. It seems like he was only there for her when he was on top. Now, the roles are reversed and he dumps her. I would sit my pretty behind down and enjoy living my life, and if he wants to get back together...fine, but it's his turn to make it up to her.
    Not to spoil the ending, but I don't think he never did.

    I still love the movie but I definitely have more complex feelings about it. Also when Q tells Monica she would never have to ask him to choose I interpret it as it wouldn't be a choice for him because she is more important, so there is no choice to make. She is the choice. Watching the movie then and now we mainly see things from Monica's point of view and it always felt like basketball was her life. I don't think the game was as important to Q.

    I do not think anything Quincy did was out of charecter, it was actually on point and the extreme ends of his charecter. From the opening scene, we had been shown that Quincy does not take failure or hardship well, he is the kind of person to have his world fall apart and want everyone else's to burn along with him that is why I find it perplexing when people say they should have tried to really hard to preserve their relationship.
    That woman has a life scar on her face because she dared to be better than Quincy when they were younger.
    Now she has fought so hard to get where she was opposed to Quincy, who always had a clear shot, and he has failed to understand how much that means to Monica, too. I genuinely understand the need to insert the mindset to actually work and preserve relationships, but longevity should not be the reason in this case. If anything, they should go separate way, experience people and life outside of the bqsketball and the few things they know to feel complete, and hope they both grow from this experience. Quincy needs some self growth and Monica needs to meet other people and get some friends.

    • @HeitCheri
      @HeitCheri  4 місяці тому +1

      Quincy's life difficulty level was most definitely set on easy. While parents breaking up is a huge thing, he would have crumbled under the pressure of far less. He just didn't have the skill set to cope well with adversity. Rehab from his injury probably changed him significantly.

  • @toyaJM

    I went through something similar at this age and even though I cried for months we remained friends for awhile. At one point we talked about getting back together but I just couldn't trust him the same. I encouraged him to start seeing someone he was on the fence about and they've been married like 10 years or so now. Our friendship ended once I encouraged him to move on. I think if someone shows you they can be trusted again things can work out but if not its ok to just call that experience whatever it meant to you and move forward.

    OMG!!! I am watching Love and Basketball now, and I just had a crazy thought and immediately came to your channel. I think Omar Epp's movies are alternate realities of each other. He's Quincy in Love and Basketball and Juice. Tyra Banks plays his love interests in L&B and Higher Learning. He's a college athlete in L&B, Higher Learning and the Program and Sanaa just so happens to be the adult version of his high school girlfriend on the Wood!!!! Mind Blown. If there is any validity to this, I know you 2 are the best at explaining it. I Thank You for your videos and channel.

    • @HeitCheri
      @HeitCheri  4 місяці тому

      This is an interesting observation that we touched on in some recent discussions... I think it was when we were talking about Higher Learning maybe? The thing is, it can be a slippery slope when you try to connect characters in different movies simply because they are the same actor. This is such an interesting exercise in exploring the underlying themes that might tie them all together. The most important thing is evidence from the films themselves that might support this possibility. For instance, we have a video on our other channel @axiomamnesia exploring whether Fudge from Higher Learning could be Doughboy from Boyz N The Hood reimagined.
      I love talking about these films and I'm so glad that you're thinking about them too! ❤️

    I dont think his Dawg'N was unforgivable. But he never even really ask for Forgiveness fr.. he gave her a lil lukewarm apology & explanation . & it didnt seem like it was really for her. It seems more like it was moreso for him to Make An Excuse for the Hurt her knows He caused. He didnt truly take e accountability or act like he really gaf about Her experience of him & the breakdown of their Rship. & I think what bothers ppl is the way the writers went about putting them back together.. he didnt really have to work to get her back .. even juss the friendship.. and He didn't put forth much effort to either. Or to even really keep in touch.
    He mentions that he tried to call her while she was overseas a few times.. But my dude why yeen write her no letters😂.. Thee Dawg'N phase set up a Journey, if you will, of Monica kinda chasing him and doin the most to get him back and she wasnt even wrong in. The first place.. He was.. and even when they had their One on One game at the end, he still felt a need to Son her as if she hadnt been thru enough 🤡😭..
    Thats what Makes The Movie 'Love Story' shihh come off Toxic.. and what Makes ppl look at Quincy as a Toxic person.. cuz it's totally understandable why she had an attachment to him. They had Alot of history. But it don't seem like He Valued their bond or history in the same way.. It was often her putting up way more effort to keep the shihh afloat and resalvage it

      @@HeitCheri I peep that. And that's an attempt indeed.. I Juss don't feel he tried hard enough. Like of course she not answering, you been playing with her emotions & being cold AF with her for really No reason.. & I don't think he matched her Energy when it came to redeeming the bond., He Gave up Too Easy.. and I feel like him Being in thee wrong should've been extra fuel to Go harder.. write heartfelt letters, send her a gift w/ Remorseful & Loving Note attached.. Send her some pictures.. Somn.. it's like He was keen on applying pressure whenever he wanted to Hurt her and Make Her Feel Bad.. But not when it came to making things right with her and showing any real defining growth
