    Great review and I totally agree the the ripper blads are not the most ideal thing to put on a bit marketed towards a battery powered hand drill. Lots of torque and undue stress on a expensive tool.

    I bought the Torch and have no regrets.. I'm using an old Makita drill with a 5ah battery. I was able to go ice fishing and cut the holds needed to spend a day on the ice.

    I have an Ion and I bought it on a whim, the day my gas auger decided to spill gas all over the ice and wouldnt start. I ran to Canadian Tire and bought the only electric they had. It's never died on me yet, even run and gun style for crappie. I have no idea how many inches of ice it will drill because I havent found that number yet. With modern batteries I think all electrics are great. I wont buy anything new until my current auger fails, which could be many years. I am sure the worst auger in 5-10 years will be better than the best one today.

    I would buy the torch over the pistolbit just because of the single blade design. Plus you can easily sharpen the blade yourself with some sandpaper.
    If I had to use a drill it would be a rigid as their batteries are warrantied for life.
    Why does a chipper blade make your drill work harder?

    • @HuyFishin
      @HuyFishin  Рік тому

      Yea there are some pros to the jiffy. It just didn’t work for me. The ripper blades were just too inefficient. If you check my “howmany holes will the 8” pistol bit drill” video. It cuts nearly double the amount of ice with the same drill and battery. The chipper blade gets the battery and drill real hot because of the inefficiency. Which in return just means more wear and tear on the drill. The pistol bit was much better for me.

    Scraper vs the shaver blade setup ... the scraper with the center pin you'd proply be able the bridge the holes amd put the famous large holes where as the shaver style they wonder and can do that with them !!!! For me coming from shavers when I started using a drill adaptor, i still prefer chippers, just like back in the gas days. changing blades is a no go for me and I found the second season on a shaver I could tell it was getting dull so I got 2 years per blade set. 5 years on the kdrill still cuts like new, battery not issue for me, I have a couple m18 12ah that power my auger and live scope but I will say the liteflight is the only shaver I would consider after using it a few times last year.

    • @HuyFishin

    The drill makes a huge difference. The DeWalt and Milwaukee drills are what almost all mechanics and trades people around here use. I have never used one of them style of augers, I learned a bunch. I still use the old blue 8 inch hand auger or a friends gas one. Thanks Huy!

    This brings me to a dilemma now. I bought one of these to replace my 6" pistol bit and pairing it with a ridgid R86115. Not sure if it's gonna keep up with it now as it's only a 800 ft. lb. drill

    • @HuyFishin
      @HuyFishin  2 роки тому

      My honest opinion this jiffy needs 1200in/lb torque . Your current ridgid will still work flawless with an 8 inch pistolbit. It might work but in the end you're telling it to horse its way through which is gonna eat the rigid battery while putting more stress on the ridgid. I would try to stick to the shaver style. If you watch my previous video with this torch and the kobalt with 1200in/lb and a 4ah battery it overheated the battery after only 115inches of ice.

You confirmed what I assumed- that it won’t be quite as efficient as the shaver blades. But I think it will be fine for me as I already have the M18 and a bunch of batteries. • @A.C._Taylor
      @A.C._Taylor 2 роки тому +1

      @@HuyFishin I use a Lansky to sharpen the blades. When you first start out, use a permanent marker and mark up the whole bevel.
      This will help you quickly figure out the correct angle with whatever sharpening stones you use. When you have the correct angle, the stone will take off the marker from the top of the bevel and all the way down to the edge.
      Once you do it a few times, you will then just know what is correct and won't need the marker any more.
      That trick also works great for sharpening chisels and axes as well.
