First video where I’m not feeling completely lost! You do a great job of explaining and helping those who aren’t so knowledgeable about camera terminology. Glad to see you are up and about. Hope you are doing better. Great job on the video and the best explanation and basic use of anamorphic lens. Can wait till mine come.
For sure, that's the best explanation about anamorphic lenses I have ever watched on UA-cam! I'm just starting recording with this lens and was a bit confused about its effect on the image. After your explanation, I actually understood how it works and how to handle it. Many thanks! 👍
A interesting video, however the 'flare' in your hair caused by the bright building/brick wall boundary, at the end when you are talking to the camera is quite concerning. Is the cased by the lens? Also the flat style colour grading doesn't show the lens in great light (pun intended) IMO, although I realise the style is a personal preference, but I would like a bit more contrast.
Yes, it's the lens. That normal, if light hits directly the lens, it will create a flare, including the light from the sun. I continuously tweak my colour grading because this isn't my strong point. I agree it's missing some contrast in this one.

Loïc Bellemare-Alford is it worth buying them? I ordered them on amazon but still to be delivered since the item is not available. They look like good lenses though and the ND attachment seems a good plus. My only concern is if they drop 😩 and lose them
I’m pleased your knee is better. Re the anamorphic lens falling off, lots of reviewers of the Pocket 2 complain about losing the wide angle lens in the Creator Combo pack - it just falls off. I therefore assume that the Pocket 3 will address this with a stronger magnet (I’m guessing but this must surely be an easy fix). Loïc, can you estimate when the Pocket 3 might be released? Was it a year between the release of the Pocket 1 & Pocket 2? I’m asking because if the Pocket 3 might be released this autumn, I feel I should wait till then rather than buy a Pocket 2 now. Thanks.
Yes it seems to be a very common problem 😥 It was almost two years between the DJI Osmo Pocket and DJI Pocket 2 so I would be surprised if they have a new one this year. With that being said, it's always hard to predict when DJI will come out with a new product.

I would like to know more about the weak magnetic attaching, it looks like it is too weak in my opinion, is it a universal issue or just yours? Thank you very much for the info.
It's pretty weak, if you knock the camera in any way, it's going to come off. To be clear, this isn't the fault of the Freewell because the official wide angle lens from DJI has the exact same problem. I really hope it's something DJI improves in the next generation!
@@loicba okay good to know (thanks for your immediate answer :D) I am currently struggling between the dji pocket 2 and the go pro hero 9 for vlogging/travel/memory videos. In my opinion the go pro was quite good (also because of it's nice audio quality), but the external mic on the dji pocket 2 is good too, furthermore the colors don't have an unnatural contrast, but the go pro is much more sturdy and has its impressive horizon leveling 😂 they are both too good to decide, what a time to be alive. Oh and also: I assume its just a matter of time when you blow up, because your videos are of top-notch quality :D
@@MrZelektronz thanks! It's hard indeed to make a choice these days! I have been playing with the Insta360 One X2 and it's another great camera camera 🙂 I personally think that the GoPro Hero 9 and Insta360, a great for action sports or when you want to frame without thinking about the shoot too much. I always go back to the DJI Pocket 2 for vlogging or more "cinematic" content. With the creator combo kit, you basically have everything you need to film high quality content without stressing about having to bring a big camera.
Thank you for this very informative and easy to follow review. You've gained a new subscriber! QQ, I have a trip planned very soon to Disneyland and will have the Pocket 2 mounted on my backpack strap and plugged in to a power bank on trickle charge, so realistically I will be able to walk around all day with it on (though I probably won't). In this case, would it be ok to use the Freewell anamorphic plus nd all day, or would you opt for the wide angle? Also, I was thinking nd 16 with sunny conditions, would you agree with that? Thank you in advance and I'm excited to view more of your videos!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! There are few things, the cameras become hot while charging so it might not be possible to go through a full day with them opened as they will overheat at a certain point. Anamorphic or wide angle is really your choice, both have different looks so it depends on what you plan on doing with the footage. One problem with all filters for the Pocket 2 is that they can fall pretty easily (the magnets are very good for any abrupt movement). For the ND, 16 is usually good for conditions that might vary during the day. I would go with ND32 for a sunny day.
loooovveedd.... liked... subed... 👍excellent series and excellent info for my much beloved osmo. Just a point... would you say if things are compatible with osmo pocket 1...? chherrrsss....!
Thanks for the support! Yes, but Osmo Pocket is weird and sometimes becomes crazy because it doesn’t detect the lens is on and tries to compensate for the added weight.
I like your video. I have the following questions: 1.How much can you record continuously? i.e 15 minutes or unlimited (depending on SD card)? If I want to get a record continuous 30 min video is it possible with Pocket-2? I heard that it splits into a single file after 4GB, but the recording doesn't stop until the memory card is full. However, you need to import all the files and export them in a single video later. 2. Whenever its battery performance down, what is the solution to replace the battery (After some years)
1. Yes, you can record continuously until the card is full and it splits the video in 4GB files. Most people don't know the reason but that's a limitation from some SD card formatting. 2. You can't replace the battery. I usually have a battery pack not to far so I just charge the battery when I need while shooting.
@@loicba I have little confusion that If I buy Pocket-2 without a combo then It will come 20mm wide-angle lens or not? Is a wide-angle lens a replaceable accessory or fixed with pocket-2?
Several of us owners of the Freewell anamorphic lens, for the pocket 2, have found the squeeze factor to be 1.09 rather than 1.15. Also, here is a tutorial to desqueeze with a free version of Davinci Resolve. ua-cam.com/video/pRe6l456rKg/v-deo.html
On my tv the image looked softer in the centre and corners than the bare Pocket 2 lens. You might prefer the "cinematic" look now, but maybe not later if it goes out of fashion.
Yes, I realized that after exporting the video and it was to late to fix what I said 😥 I personally don't think it's going to be "out of style" anytime soon as it's similar to what real anamorphic lenses produce. It's not a style for all videos but it's a nice one if you are really trying to get a more "cinematic" look.

@@loicba thank you for your Reply, I mean it please I can record many minutes, but the video cuts that itself for 1-2-5 minutes ,do you have 💡Idee please?
They still exist but Freewell are annoying, they redirect to the old version while they are out of stock... This direct link should work: amzn.to/3xQSexj
If your main youtube audience are watching from mobile phones it makes even more sense to make 18.5:9 aspect ratio videos as mobile phones are getting wider.
Yes! I am considering switching the aspect ratio because even for 16/9 content it's a plus as it gives me more room to play if I want to reframe the shot.
I am not sure to understand your question. It holds with magnets so you can detach it easily. If your question is if you can only use the ND filter, the answer is no. Did that answer your question?
I have a 4th axis stabilizer but I honestly don't use it at all. It's annoying to use and doesn't make a huge difference. I usually find the stabilization of the DJI Pocket 2 good enough! If you really need more stable images, you need heavier gear (like your phone + a bigger gimbal)
I think this image should help: images.app.goo.gl/hcQ6yMcNZ1MrcukB6. A anamorphic lens is very similar to a wide-angle lens: it captures a wider image and "squeeze" (redirect the light) on a smaller sensor. The big difference is that a wide-angle lens keeps the pixel a perfect square. An anamorphic lens "squeezes" only the horizontal part of the image. A "real" cinemascope image has an aspect ratio of 8/3 (or 2.66:1). The problem is that no camera sensor has that aspect ratio. This is why they usually compress it to a 4/3 aspect ratio (notice the horizontal width is half of the original). When we say "squeeze" it's that we redirect the light to a smaller sensor aspect ratio than the original one image.
@@loicba It seems like the bulb is flickering. I will have to research further to understand that clearly. Also when you are adjusted the width of the image, it was still 16:9 as it was before readjusting. How was that?
They seem to have a shortage 😥 www.freewellgear.com/dji-osmo-pocket-filters-and-dji-osmo-pocket-accessories/738-dji-pocket-2-osmo-pocket-wide-angle-anamorphic-lens.html And the links for the only the Anamorphic + ND don't work anymore. They might be back when the supply comes backs.
Wish its real 1.33x or 1.8x. I have the old anamorphic from freewel for osmo pocket. With just 1.15x. I have tried the sirui 50 1.8 anamorphic it was a nice glass , wish I was able to try the 35
I totally agree! Freewell told me it's limitations based on the sensor but I personally would mind softer edges in exchange for a more "real" anamorphic look! I definitely would want to try the Sirui lenses one day but I don't have enough use cases for anamorphic lenses to justify buy those lenses 😥
jai aimé la vidéo, comme dhab! however, i dont mean to be hating and shit, but i think this anamorphic lens doesnt look good :( the lens flare is ridiculously overdone, and personally i notice the distortion on the sides of the frame, it renders a weird look and is distracting. and the light leaks are meh :/ mais c vrm juste mon gout personnel, maybe c que jsuis pas habitué. mm si le produit était moins à mon gout, le reste de la vidéo est très bien faite! merci!
First question - do you want an action camera, or do you want a gimbal camera? They are two very different devices. All other considerations must follow that basic choice.
@@Ozpeter Yep, exactly! It's the subject of one of my upcoming videos but I conclude that they are just very different cameras. GoPro/Insta360 are action cameras vs the DJI Pocket 2 is a vlogging/more cinematic beast!
I dont think ill ever use the anamorphic lense, i hate lens flare. Had them when i shot only with my iphone and didn't like it...i want clear and detailed shot. Hate it in movies as well...i see it more as a bug than a feature.
i don't see much difference 🙄 and i don't see any point to use it if we don't have natural 21:9 🙄 edit: oh actually we do have it but i think your desqueeze is wrong. why you don't cut it exacly 21:9 inside of 16:9? i think cinematic bars are cool haha; thats the all the reason i would use it 😐
I don't use the cinematic bars because 21:9 is better aspect ratio for most smartphones. The desqueeze is also not quite right because it should be desqueezed more on the edges than the center but I didn't find how to do it in premiere pro.
This is the first video I have watched that explains the need to de-squeeze the video. Thank you!
Happy you got that information! I'm surprised because it's pretty important!

@@loicba great content and very well put together hence why I bought one Sotherton for this 😀
Nicely Done
Thanks! 😊
Hi I have a question please, why i can only record video for 5 minutes? i have a sd card 256gb
Thank-you.
I am sorry to hear that. I do not have any problems recording for longer periods. You should probably check with the support team.
@@loicba thank you for your Reply, I mean it please
I can record many minutes, but the video cuts that itself for 1-2-5 minutes ,do you have 💡Idee please?
I have absolutely no idea. DJI support are the best ones placed to help you with that.
@@loicba ok my friend Thank you so much 💁♂️🖐
It is mentioned on amazon as not compatible with pocket 2
They still exist but Freewell are annoying, they redirect to the old version while they are out of stock... This direct link should work: amzn.to/3xQSexj
If your main youtube audience are watching from mobile phones it makes even more sense to make 18.5:9 aspect ratio videos as mobile phones are getting wider.
Yes! I am considering switching the aspect ratio because even for 16/9 content it's a plus as it gives me more room to play if I want to reframe the shot.
Is it easily detached by its self?
I am not sure to understand your question. It holds with magnets so you can detach it easily. If your question is if you can only use the ND filter, the answer is no. Did that answer your question?
Idk why freewell is not available in my country market place
I am sorry to hear that, I have no idea why that is happening 😢
Cool!
Thanks!
can anybody tell me if I can use a stabilizer for the DJI pocket 2?
I have a 4th axis stabilizer but I honestly don't use it at all. It's annoying to use and doesn't make a huge difference. I usually find the stabilization of the DJI Pocket 2 good enough! If you really need more stable images, you need heavier gear (like your phone + a bigger gimbal)
so Good video❤️
Glad you liked it!! 😍
I actually didn't get that squeezing thing. Can you explain that again please?
How was that?
спасибо большое за обзор! Теперь мне нужна такая линза
Happy you liked the video!
I could not find this set on Freewell site anamorphic plus ND
I definitely would want to try the Sirui lenses one day but I don't have enough use cases for anamorphic lenses to justify buy those lenses 😥
to your knowledge it is perfect for vblogging
I think it's great but you can what a vlog I actually filmed with it: ua-cam.com/video/RWfAp5_pSps/v-deo.html. I also have two more coming soon!
The magnets need to be stronger. I'm always losing mine.
I agree. I got used to removing the lens each time I am done taking a shot. The problem is that it gets finger prints quickly 😥
Good
Thanks!
jai aimé la vidéo, comme dhab! however, i dont mean to be hating and shit, but i think this anamorphic lens doesnt look good :( the lens flare is ridiculously overdone, and personally i notice the distortion on the sides of the frame, it renders a weird look and is distracting. and the light leaks are meh :/
J.J. Abrams like this video
Happy to hear that!
❤️❤️
thanks! 😍
great!!! Marty Sender You Tube
Thanks!
Sometimes I think I wasted my money on this..
Should have gone for gopro 9
I am sorry to hear that, what are you problems with this camera?
@@loicba I'd really like to know this too 😅 because I'm really struggling between both of those cameras
First question - do you want an action camera, or do you want a gimbal camera? They are two very different devices. All other considerations must follow that basic choice.
@@Ozpeter Yep, exactly! It's the subject of one of my upcoming videos but I conclude that they are just very different cameras. GoPro/Insta360 are action cameras vs the DJI Pocket 2 is a vlogging/more cinematic beast!
don´t like the blue lens-flare on the night-shots...
It's a goal of that lens but I agree they are not very natural
I dont think ill ever use the anamorphic lense, i hate lens flare. Had them when i shot only with my iphone and didn't like it...i want clear and detailed shot. Hate it in movies as well...i see it more as a bug than a feature.
That's fine but it's also personal preference. I don't mind it too much but I also don't use it much...
i don't see much difference 🙄 and i don't see any point to use it if we don't have natural 21:9 🙄
edit: oh actually we do have it but i think your desqueeze is wrong. why you don't cut it exacly 21:9 inside of 16:9? i think cinematic bars are cool haha; thats the all the reason i would use it 😐
I don't use the cinematic bars because 21:9 is better aspect ratio for most smartphones. The desqueeze is also not quite right because it should be desqueezed more on the edges than the center but I didn't find how to do it in premiere pro.
@@loicba hmmm so it needs some kind of gradient warp actually 🤔 thank you
You lost me at premiere pro. Who still supports the greedy adobe company?
