0:14 inflating those numbers are we? 14* million, in total. 50 million was the Soviet/Stalin mass murder toll, not including the previous red terror waves. Mao took 1st place and caused about 100 million deaths, drop in the bucket for the chinese though considering theres like a billion of em if not a few billion. Allies mass killing toll was much lower, 300k or so with targeting civilians with nukes in japan, few thousand in Dresden, not as bad as the national socialists and communists but civilian killing is still not a good thing
Well I'd say Mao isn't nearly as evil as Hitler or Stalin. Mao's deaths where due to incompetence leading to them making choices that they believed would improve the lives of the people but actually caused mass famines & all sorts of other social & economic issues that caused deaths. Hitler & Stalin however. Well Hitler's massive death toll is due to his hate & dehumanisation of his enemies. Stalin is just heartless & had no care for human life he would've let all of the USSR to die just to have a chance to destroy his enemies. But still deaths become pretty meaningless when they become numbers we have no real way of understanding like millions. Also the majority of the large Japanese civilian deaths where caused by the Firebombings not the Nukes as the nukes aren't nearly as devastating as the fire bombs in a city like Tokyo or Kyoto. Also the Allies is a bad name as the allies refers to the US, USSR & UK mainly.
@@VanBourner incompetence isn't evil its wrong yes but its not evil. Evil needs intentions to harm something. Mao intended to help his people so he wasn't really evil as his plans where just not going to work causing death. Its when some group knows what they are doing is going to harm people that it becomes evil like companies such as Dupont which is evil as it knowingly poisoned millions with Teflon.

The war didn't JUST happen bc capitalism. Maybe contributing factors of a heavily decentralised government (small government which was so weak apparently they contracted the lives of 'Merca to rando corperation) If I wanted to also use flaws in a socialist/communist society and say the war was because of them, I am sure I could. For example, if China nuked the US with the goal of eliminating a enemy/competing nation, and vault tech/US dropped nukes cuz they wanna be monopoly (eliminate competing groups). or say Mao dropped the nuke cuz he dislikes capitalists and want ccp citizens only ones left, would the war have then started because of communism? Or would it start because of authoritarianism? I think to simplify and trivialise the fallout 4 war capitalism leaves a whole bunch of other factors (small government, which is not inherent to capitalist nations, could have sped up war). So yea to summarise, I think one huge issue and also the main issue for the start of the war in fallout is MONOPOLIES and OLIGARCHIAL STRUCTURES, of which exist in both socialist and capitalist societies. Great video tho!
*also want to mention a coorperation like vault tech operationing a multilevel conspiracy for a genocide where employees KNOW is hella unlikely in any society and borderline impossible in the real world. Someone would have called the cops wayyyy back. gotta love whistle blowers
i definitely like this take, less capitalism and more oligarch. if i could go back and redo the video, i would probably go more into oligarchical society and how capitalism LEADS to that, maybe not pinning it on capitalism as a whole. you bringing up if china dropped the bomb and if the war would have been due to communism is a point that i hadn’t even considered! 10/10 great take
@@Sixes along with heavy decentralized power from the people, as some lore from a vid i remember said how their President went off and made the Enclave for the purpose of a future fallout post apocolypse government. We see how 3 branches of government and the balence of powers yada yada yada had seemingly been eroded in this version of america. The president in fallout was operating with the enclave/vault tec in a dictorial fashion, seperately from the rest of the government and from the knowledge of the people (at least a like a week before the bombs dropped when citizens learned of enclave and the plan)
Because remember, Vault tech which was a branch company of the enclave were a evil coorperations, but they were also used in government contracting to carry out the presidents goals. We see this allocation take place in almost all nations, Russian Oligarchs/dictators, Chinese oligarchs/dictators, American coorperations/Trumps dictator like reforms on the Executive branch(scary). Extremely good video. I think the angle of free will is often ignored when discussing Fallout’s overarching themes and how that ties into capitalism. Hope to see more Fallout content in the future
thank you so much! i like to take more philosophical approaches to fallout because i feel like most topics have already been covered in the 20+ years that fallout content has been made on this website haha
Well with the opening analogy technically you did make it about the Enclave. The Vault tec experiments where done for the benefit of the Enclave. I don't know what benefit some of these experiments have such as drugs in the air, & the puppets. But vaults like 111 are pretty dark with the experiment being on the staff not the frozen dwellers as well trap people in a vault tell them they'll be evaced in a few months & give them barely enough food before you leave them to see what happens.
Good video! Would you say that the followers of the apocalypse in New vegas follow the same mold as other factions or would their seeming commitment to people over profit and humanitarian efforts which caused the split between them and the NCR mark them as different?
i would say that the followers are an incredibly refreshing outlier regarding free will. they’re pretty similar to the minutemen in that regard! if i had more time, i would have gone into a few more factions such as the followers, minutemen, the institute, etc!

Great video, but Hitler took power in 1932/33 not 39.
definitely mixed up a date in the script with that, thank you for catching that! War started in 39, he became chancellor in 33. My bad y’all!
