    I have watched many videos on facet joint degeneration, and this is BY FAR the BEST explanation I have seen. Thank you for explaining what and where the joints are, the causes of the pain, and the treatments so well. I am eternally grateful for this excellent video. THANK YOU!

    At 74 I have lower back pain standing for long, and I know bending forward gives me relief, after watching your program I understand exactly what kind of back problem I have so I am able to avoid those “ one kind of back pain exercise for all” which actually could hurt patients instead of helping. Thank you UCLA my alma mater, you are the best in providing the best science to help the public!

    4 months of tingling into both legs and feet and back pain that moves, finally got an mri and facets are inflamed. I think I got this from starting yoga at home arching too far back and then the symptoms began. Not to mention the A typical sciatica relief exercise that I kept doing that made it so much worse. Going for injections of steroids hoping that will stop the nerve irritation. My pain wasn’t continual and wasn’t worse in the morning. I have had bouts of pain, muscle spasms mainly at night and then for week or so nothing but tingling in feet.

    I went from asymptomatic to absolute hell 2 months ago. Does physical therapy significantly reduce or even totally revert the pain back to perceptive normalcy in chronic cases? My ROM in flexion is also suddenly gone, which wasnt the case at initial onset. Lumbar flexion is the absolute worse. I used to be able to crack my own back with ease. Now even a chiropractor cant do it.

    My friend was diagnosed with spinal stenosis of L3-5 and had surgery,consisting of posterior fusion and decompression posteriorly, stabilized by hardwares.Post-op,he can’t ambulate w/o a walker and uses motorized W/C to get around.He is on pain meds which give minimal relief.F/U MRI reveals bilateral stenosis with traced anterolisthesis of L3 on L4 and retrolisthesis on L4 on L5 ,severe bilateral foraminal stenosis .Pain never abated.Tried epidural steroid injection;pain got worsened. The right anterior thigh feels tight, heavy and thick.Difficult to walk due to pain.What probably went wrong after the injection, and how to alleviate the worsening pain in the back and leg?Currently,on pain meds as prescribed w/o relief.

      Maybe he was treated the wrong way round. I sympathize re the pain. I'm a veteran and have had chronic back problems since an early age. When enlisted back in the 90's my job caused plenty more issues. The FIRST time I go see a Dr my option he gave was disc fusion right out the gate. I was shocked and explained I'm very athletic etc. I asked if this would limit my ability in any way. He said well you will still be able to walk. I was 22! Military Dr's were butchers many and we were guinea pigs.

      Same. I did the RFA as physio wasn’t working. It’s been a year since. I’ve taken my rehab slow and easy and added a few lower back strengthening exercises. What the RFA did for me, was to make me able to go to the physio and rehab without another back attack for 9 months. Im good now and have started my golf again…work my way back to the 6 handicap when all this happened. I also ride a road bike for fitness as walking seems to aggregate the back muscles in and around that area.
      I couldn’t walk or anything for 7 weeks before I did the RFA (was an,e to walk a little by then with the help of pain meds). For the sake of just numbers right before the procedure; pain level 10 before, when I woke up a few hours later, pain level 3. Then worked on working out the knots from the back spasms and relearning how to use those muscles. And of course strengthening.

    Doesnt radiofrequency ablation and injections mask the pain such that the person is more likely to indulge in behaviors that would only exacerbate the underlying issue without the negative disincentive of pain to guide them out of complacency such as with lazy posture and overdoing it with free weight training?

    • @tncorgi92
      @tncorgi92 21 день тому

      According to the neurosurgeon I met with, fusion can be done but it's rare. He himself said I would not be a candidate for surgery, luckily I was able to see a doctor who does RFA and my first procedure was a week ago. The injections only caused minimal discomfort, I would recommend to anyone with arthritic facet joints to consider RFA.

    here to learn about condition. My low back pain has been on and off for 20 years. Lately at 43 its been really bad. espeically in the morning. I am 43 year old physical male. My Dr did the mri and saw fluid around the facets and beleives this is the cause of my pain. I also have l5/s1 degeberation but she belives that is not the sorce of my pain. my pain is one sides lower back and blips of pain into the top of butt check. feels like a tooth ache all the time. morning times i can barely walk or bend. she wants to try 3 levels l3 l4 l5 of injection to see if it helps. if so then she will burn the nerve.
