For anyone wondering, my cousin flew down to Florida from the Toronto area to get the ultrasonic surgery from Dr. Cantor and it was life changing and extremely positive. He went from severe pain and dysfunctional all day to no pain and fully recovered in no time. This man deserves a medal 🥇
Years ago, spinal surgery was the last option before you committed to a wheel chair. In reality, the surgery only prolonged the inevitable, and a wheel chair, indeed, was your new device to get from point A to point B. I have been diagnosed with DDD, have had a hip replacement, and suffer from Sacroiliitis. As my disease has progressed, I have often thought of spinal surgery. A year ago I was told, "you are not at that point yet". I was dumb founded that my pain levels were not deemed severe enough for modern spinal surgery. Today, a year later, I spend my days consumed with pain management. I have lived with chronic pain since my mid 50s. I am 75 years old and believe I will never have a pain free day in my life again. I share these thoughts, because I am certain many of us with similar issues feel the same way. I enjoyed this video and thank you for explaining your techniques and the future of spinal surgery.
Hi, I've just done a major rewrite of this comment. (As of Thursday, Sept 21, 2023.) I’m 73 with much the same spine history you have. Four years ago I had fusion surgery to free a trapped sciatic nerve root. It was a hugely traumatic operation, mainly because of the muscle tissue they had to cut through to get to my spine. I was laid up for six months following the surgery, and another six months when finally, I got back to normal. One part of me that will never be returned to normal is the supportive muscles that were severed to access my spine. I am living with the consequences. After my successful double fusion fully healed, which took a year, my new normal was a very stiff lower back initially due to the metal rods and screws holding my vertebrae together while they fused, and then caused by the rigidity of the fused bones themselves. The fusion cured my pinched nerve, and my excellent surgeon cleaned up everything he could in the region, hence the double fusion of L4/L5 and L5/S1. But to no avail beyond solving the immediate crisis of that pinched sciatic nerve root. Now the more subtle, and in many ways more insidious effects of Degenerative Disc Disease continue to progress as my spinal arthritis spreads, extending to a larger area of my spinel. This time from the inside, the bundle of spine inside my spinal column continues to be corrupted by arthritic bone spurs that clog my spinal canal. The result is the other kind of stenosis, the one that consists of pain in the spine itself, rather than referred to the hip and leg as happens with a pinched sciatic nerve. The terrible nerve pain has been replaced by a dull ache that turns into unbearable bone pain if I walk more than a few minutes. My bone pain that gets worse by the month. Knowing now what I did not know then was that after my fusion was fully healed, I should immediately have begun pro-actively mitigating the unfortunate consequences of the underlying disease, arthritis of the spine. Had I engaged in a rigorous exercise program focused on the core support muscles, healing as much as possible the ones traumatized by surgery, along with losing 35 lb. of excess weight (another thing I'll blame on the pandemic), this drastic action might have prevented the second radiculopathy I experienced three years after my first -- this time affecting the vertebra just above the fused ones, exactly as the doctor in this video described. In one of the most dramatic experiences of my life, when I truly could not bear it any longer, and the docs told me my spine was too far gone to withstand another fusion, that second pinched nerve root somehow freed itself. Over three weeks the pain diminished by the day, not because of any action on my part or medication, but just my dumb Irish luck. But due to the insidious nature of osteoarthritis of the spine, my luck was bound not to hold. Instead of finally being free, the manifestation of my arthritis changed from nerve pain to bone pain. When people tell you it’s too early for spine surgery, they’re talking for bone pain. The trauma of fusion is not worth it, they say, and you should manage bone pain in different ways. I fully agree., Nerve pain can be so extreme it becomes intractable, and basically you are disabled and suffering seemingly beyond what makes life worth living. Sometimes the nerve frees itself and the pain goes away. But if you do not have the great good fortune I experienced, an urgent surgery may be required. This video shows us an alternative approach to spine surgery. If this doctor does back surgery as well as he does communicating the condition to non-medical viewers, I'm going to track him down and if my insurance disagrees, camp out on this office doorstep. (Just kidding, but his half-hour video finally clarified the dual personalities of spinal arthritis, and suggested a new way of dealing with it while retaining the spine's intricate stabilization architecture. It's all news to me and I'm going to research ultrasonic microsurgery in depth, along with consulting my pain management team about its efficacy in cases like mine. The reason for urgency is that after having survived two episodes of nerve pain, I am now afflicted with bone pain due to arthritic bone formations INSIDE my spinal canal. The pain is completely different from the agony of nerve pain, but it has made me unable to walk more than ten minutes. My battle is a long way from being over, but I am determined to fight it as long as I have the physical resources to do so. Though I'm now a certified senior at 73, one of the few good habits from my youth has persisted: riding my racing bicycle on a tough 15-mile circuit here in the East Bay hills, ever other day. The internal strength from doing that since age 19 could be what might see me through. But then, truth be told, I slacked off a lot during the pandemic, and this could well have been what made me vulnerable to stenosis that began clogging the inside my lumbar spinal column. I've accepted that ultimately, my health is my responsibility, something I can't delegate or wish away. At my advanced age I'm free from cancer and heart disease, a huge privilege I will never take for granted, and despite my stenosis I am still able to ride my bike 15 miles every other day. As it turns out, riding a race bike tucked over in the racing position (as opposed to sitting up vertically with all your weight on your butt), provided me the side benefit of my cycling exertion indirectly strengthening my core muscles, while at the same time keeping my body weight off my lumbar spine, so while riding I have zero spine pain, nor does pain set in afterwards.. As we've seen from this doctor's presentation, and as I discovered serendipitously by my unbearable nerve pain resolving on its own over a couple of weeks, we should not give in to stop-gap solutions like epidurals and pain meds unless the pain is intractable. (This morning I had an epidural, my first in years, and over a few hours discovered how massively my quality of life has been degraded, just by experiencing a few hours without pain.) Through the coming winter I will double down and engage in a twice-daily floor exercise regimen to optimize whatever my core muscles are capable of to stabilize my spine. For a guide I'm using "The Back Mechanic" by Dr. Stuart McGill, whose focused techniques have saved the spines of many world-class athletes. I'll be riding my bike through the mild Northern California winter. And I've already lost 25 of the 35 excess pounds of belly fat (which I will also blame on the pandemic, though I know better) that could not be in a worse place, due to the added strain they put on my spine, especially when standing. My goal is by next Memorial Day to be significantly more mobile on foot than I am now, and at a lower pain level, without meds. I know the pain will never be eliminated, but if it can be brought to a level I can live with, and at the same time reduce the likelihood of another pinched nerve, I will consider my plan to be a success, and a starting point for further improvements. One thing I could not bear would be to lie in bed over the upcoming winter, watching movies on my iPad, zoned out on pain meds, and knowing that even a trip to the bathroom would be an excruciating ordeal. I am very lucky not to have to live out this scenario -- many people are stuck with it -- and for that reason, knowing an activity-based option is available to me -- I could never forgive myself for not being able to walk my dog next Memorial Day. Because ultimately, my health is MY responsibility. Good luck!
I heard of spacers & everyday there is new tech. Dr cut my pain meds so now Ive fallen & broke my nose then my shoulder & sternum & head. Dont know how I got to my cell phone so miracles happen & new techs. Dont give up I feel ur pain! Ortho Dr told me Id never be able to play tennis again by not being able to ever lift my arm & am clueless at everything else he said. Drs should never say NEVER! I kept having neuroma surgery on my foot but it was spinel stenosis. Just love how this Dr spks in layman terms. Keep the hope💜🙏💜
He is not advertising his work he is educating us. Not all viewing lives in USA or could afford this surgery with out insurance which our insurance would not cover as it is out of country.
I have been told I need a laminectomy but that because I am on suboxone for pain I have a very low tolerance to pain and this doc doesn’t want to take me off of that and put me on another pain med. Also, that only my legs will be better not my back. I will always have pain in my lower back. I had to leave my job and my quality of life at 60 yrs old is terrible. My 83 year old mother is more active than I am.
I couldn't help but chuckle at your last comment, although I know from my own problem with lumbar stenosis that it isn't a bit funny. This video has been enlightening and has given me a ray of hope! I'm going to try my best to contact this doctor and/or his office!
@@ebikerforlife im on Suboxone I had 2 back surgeries and the first one I stayed on Suboxone and was in the worst pain of my life in the recovery room I was in tears it was the worse then 2nd surgery I came off a week b4 and switch to normal pain meds and came out of surgery feeling much better !!!! DO NOT HAVE SURGERY ON SUBOXONE COME OFF OF IT TRUST ME
ignorance and little information on the subject from the majority of surgeons in my case I am super frustrated because after so many failed surgeries now no one wants to do anything everyone ignores the reality of a young man wanting to move forward thank you Dr Cantor

I am a Canadian who had severe spinal stenosis L4-L5 S1. Contacted Dr. Cantor via his website as instructed. Sent my MRI down arranged a consult with Dr. Cantor. We went over my MRI just like on the video and yes I was a canadate for a lumber decompression. I agreed to go ahead and boom I had an appointment. His office staff is very accommodating and goes to great lengths to keep you in the process. Emails and phone calls are answered. Had surgery May 2nd 2024. Everything is great so far. I can highly recommend Dr. Cantor and his team. Also the care at Holy Cross in Ft. Lauderdale was A1.
I Had a laminectomy L4/L5 L5/S1 in 1989 when I was 37. I was disappointed that it didn't make me 20 again and it hasn't been without some pain but I'm glad I had it done and I stayed active and now 71 and I still work and thank God for the great Doctors I had.
I just had the surgery for the samething. My pain started in Oct 2023 December it got so bad I had the surgery in Feb 2024. I'm 48yrs old and I feel so much better. Still a little numb in that area, at times. But u know it takes time
It started from jogging and it was pain down my left leg disabling me. Definitely having herniated disc had some to do with it and swimming although great was not helping. I kept cycling and 6 months after it was gone forever, my doctor said; keep peddling it healed you. Does it work for everyone ? All I can say is it worked for me. If you’re a cyclist who got hurt from jogging and of course can’t jog anymore because the pain got worst to the point it became lumbar stenosis hang on to cycling. Ride in safe places which are designed for cycling and give it time and don’t overdo it. My lumbar stenosis disappeared, a got better and currently do all 3 events ( swimming, cycling and jogging ) none competitively. Quality cardio an strengthening workouts ranging from 30 mins to 1 hour. I hope this helps someone out there.
This is hands down the best UA-cam video explaining what spinal stenosis is and the causes. I wish I had seen this video prior to my laminectomy in 2015. It helped but it creates issues that points towards inevitable fusion because you break the cable and turn back muscles into useless fat and scar tissue.

@matth2340 Do you have stenosis in both lumbar and cervical spine? Also, why the muscle degeneration? Unable to workout anymore or surgery created mobility issues. I have stenosis above c4 & c5 where a surgeon put in two discs with screws 9 months ago. Terrible pain on right occipital and deltoid area. Wondering why he didn’t do anything about the stenosis:( Appreciate any advice.
This is the clearest explanation of this common problem that I have ever seen. I am hoping to see studies in the literature supporting this innovative and seemingly very practical approach.
3 years ago I began developing lumbar stenosis with claudication; severe bilateral leg pain. Could no longer walk or barely stand. Opioids didn't help this pain. Wasted time with numerous injections and a useless Vertiflex. Saw a highly regarded surgeon who said my only option was a 3-level laminectomy. The surgery solved my leg pain but left me with back pain that has gotten horribly bad. I was never told of Post-Laminectomy Syndrome. The government and the DEA won't allow me to get sufficient opioids. Two days ago I had a pain pump implanted. With sufficient medication adjustment I hope to get considerable pain relief. However, I wish I had seen your presentation before my surgery. What you describe makes great sense. Thank you for sharing your skill and knowledge.

I so enjoyed how you explain things, I truly learned so much more then I ever did. I at the time didn't know just how serious I was, till the Judge in my disability case stated to me, Oh u have myeomalatia, my dog died from that! Yes, this was told to me. As soon as disability went thru, I had surgery! So thank you for helping me understand better what it all ment! Bless you! BTW, I AM 100XS BETTER THEN IN 2014, it changed my whole life!
This is a great video. It really explains a lot. I have spinal stenosis and I'm just getting started with treatment. I'm at the point where I am having great difficulty walking and really need to find a solution. I'm going to save this video to show my doctor.
wow, I am blown away ! What an advancement! Thank you so much for putting this video out there, Dr. Cantor, so we are more educated about what is possible today! Far less invasive and more hope for improvement with better mobility!
Fascinating video. Have had L4 L5 surgery 4 years ago. Back pain is getting worse. Have an appointment in several weeks with the original surgeon and this video has given me a wealth of information to discuss with him. Thank you.
Very informative video Thank you dr. Cantor... I had 26 years ago C5-6-7 (I think with fusion from bone bank )levels surgery. Then 14 years ago I had L4-5 level surgery with fusion and screws. I had been doing yoga for 25 years and I was fine. Then last year I started pilates with reformer and mild pain started on my lower back.I had xray ct-scan and the last one mri 3 months ago.Although I asked my doctor 3 times if I should stop pilates,he didn't say "stop for now". After 3 sessions of pt. I had very bad pain and numbness when I walk. I stopped both pt and pilates. When I got the results of my mri I see ligamentum flavum thickening in addition to arthritis and disc bulging at L2-3,L3-4 and L5-S1 levels. This is a new surgeon ,the other one retired. Since I didn't have problems with yoga I'm thinking the repetitive movements of pilates is the main reason and my doctor telling me it's ok. to go on with pilates was wrong. Since I stopped both pt and pilates it's getting better slowly now. At least no more shooting pain, after walking certain distance numbness starts. And I read from harvard ,johns hopkins etc. site from internet that I should avoid repetitive actions. I would appreciate your opinion on my experience. Thank you. Sema Piantino

I had severe spinal stenosis back in 2018. First two Drs wanted to do a four disc fusion because I had such terrible arthritic growth on both the inside of the canal and had foramina osteophytes on the exits pinching some of my nerves almost completely flat. I had this in four of the five sections of my lumbar and it caused extreme pain. Thankfully I was directed to a neurosurgeon who must have used this ultrasonic tool and it fixed my problem and I had no fusions whatsoever. I’m so thankful I was able to find this Dr. My life would have been ruined had I listened to the first two physicians.
@@DrJeffreyCantorcan you do anything with advanced Osteoporosis? My last dexa scan showed my hips and spine are ready to go. I was an opera singer but had to retire because I couldn't stand anymore.

I am 81 with spinal stenosis and recently had a procedure called Vertiflex which is helping immensely. I can stand up straight comfortably. It may not be for everyone, but it is helping me. I enjoyed your video explanation.👍🏼

Thank you for explaining. I think this is what i must have. Im in tears from pain by the time i get to the door to go out to work in the morning. I can no longer walk my dog, ride or care for my horse, and am struggling to keep on top of my housework or garden. Im a kidney donor who has gone from a healthy extremely active life to one of painful frustration. I had an mri scan this week and am hoping for help. Im 57 and in the uk.

Thank goodness I've seen this video. I am in the process of getting my back problems at L3,L4,L5 rectified surgically and the method described to me is the older method. I will insist that I do not receive this method but the newer ultrasonic treatment if at all possible in the UK, and if not available on the NHS system then I will have to consider paying for this treatment myself. Additionally I can also see benefits to the new method in that it is less intrusive so recovery may be quicker. I can't thank you enough for putting this video on UA-cam, making me aware of this treatment, I hope others see it particularly surgeons this side of the pond. Thanks again, Brendan McEvoy, Cornwall UK.
I go in for this procedure at 5 levels 3 weeks. Have waited 12 years. Just a wonderful video explaining the procedure, and made me happy I waited the 12 years. Thank you Doctor Cantor for the excellent explanation. 👍🏼🍀
This is a revolutionary technique with ultra sonic tools. I have sever lumbar stenosis and it is life altering. Before I could run, play basketball, lay bricks and stones with ease. Now my legs are weak, my nerves are pinched and it’s difficult to stand for any period of time. I work in the construction industry so I’m constantly in and out of my truck. Walking on unleveled surfaces, climbing scaffolding. It all has been traumatic and transformed my life. This procedure is hope.

This has been so uplifting for me to watch this video about the ultrasonic technology. In the way it doesn't harm soft tissue during surgery and let's the DR. Surgeon remove or work on the hard structures of the spine. This gives me a better more positive outlook on my future. Thank you for showing this newer inventive better way of doing these surgeries. Stay safe, blessings to you. 😊
My father is 80 years old. He had spinal surgery 20 years ago and have to assume it was similar to what you described. He has been in pain for so many years, he will walk about 30 feet and needs to sit. I watched your video in amazement, it was so well done. I have so many questions specific to his case. He leans mainly to the left, I wonder if that is common in these situations?

Presentation was very well done for a layman considering LS surgery. Answered many questions for me and identified a heretofore alternative solution. Many thanks and presentation method was outstanding
Thank you so much for this explanation… I live in the UK and have an appointment with a private Spinal Surgeon who is hopefully going to fix me.. 3 months ago it started and week by week I losing my ability to walk and be active. My spinal surgeon before seeing the MRI has said I’ve got spinal stenosis and he can fix the constant pain in my feet, legs and hips.. he is a leading private spinal surgeon who practices minimal intrusive spinal surgery, which I hope means he’s using a ultra sonic probe.. Only 10 days to go before I see him again and know what comes next…. Thank you so much again for your excellent video!
I am scheduled for back surgery I have found there are 10 ways to Sunday what precedures doctors perform. To me this makes more sense opposed to insercerting expansive hardware. Thank you Dr Canter.
This was an EXCELLENT teaching! I moved from Florida to the London area, and am under the NHS now. I'm in agony from the moment I stand up until I can get to my chair or bed again. I'm in tears because I need Dr. Cantor! 😢😢😢

Wow!! I don't know if I have spinal stenosis, but I understand it. This is one of the most amazing presentations on human anatomy that I have ever seen. What a teacher! I did not understand what causes arthritis either. But I have an understanding of that as well. I will be watching more of your videos, Dr. Cantor. I will be starting with physical therapy tomorrow, hoping that takes care of the pain I am struggling with.
Thank u Dr Cantor! It is time for me to step up to the plate of surgery. I was going to choose spacers. Found an excellent spine surgeon who promised me my life back. Dr Robbins had a heart attack on stair master or treadmill next day. He was also a friend yet he didnt communicate as well as u do. I've seen 2 Great Danes get spacers & went back to normal. Knowledge is power so thx now I know more. Ive witnessed so many bad surgeries so u r such a blessing. Thank u from the bottom of my heart💜🙏💜 watched ur video 5×.

I am a 73-year-old female I’ve had severe degenerative arthritis for 20 years and in the last four years was diagnosed with scoliosis as well. Now I’ll be walking and all of a sudden I’m in such excruciating pain that I’m thinking I have some pinched nerves because sometimes I have no control over my bowels or bladder, it’s just crazy but as long as I’m sitting or laying it doesn’t hurt this was very informative. Thank you so much.
Dr. Cantor is very detailed in his descriptions. The visuals in his presentation is an effective learning tool. I am more comfortable with the techniques of using ultra sonic tools.
That was the best explanation and video presentation I have ever seen for spinal stenosis and has given me hope for the future when my spine progresses to an unacceptable point. Thank you Dr. Cantor
Said simply…that is the best explanation I have seen and heard so far…I’ve just had an X-ray at the Travis AFB hospital which confirmed arthritis and I’m scheduled for an MRI on the 14th. I have been telling people for the last year that I can walk a hundred feet and then I’m overwhelmed with pain, until I sit! Now I actually know why. Can’t thank you enough Doctor!

Thanks for the very informative video. Now I think I could understand stenosis a lot better. I had moderate central canal stenosis and severe stenosis within the bilateral lateral recesses diagnosed 5 years ago when I was in my late 40. Had a lot of pain medication, injections, physio etc. (but none helps). Had been referred to surgeons, but they said that I was not there yet. Luckily the excruciating pain that shoots to my right leg were gone by itself, and now it is mostly very dull bone pain and numbness that I can live with. Since that I understand stenosis better thanks to this video, at least I have more surgery options in the future. I guess laminectomy and fusion is a hard no.
I have seen many Surgeons explaining what You are doing. However Your explanations by far exceeds all others. YOU ARE A MASTER OF THE SPINE ! I wish I saw this earlier, because my first surgery was a debucle, the second one Last month was successful, exactly like You describe. However the BACK pain continues many days after the surgery. It gets alliviated by Symbalta and lots of Tylenols !

Thank you so much for this video, it really gave me a great deal of information I wasn't aware of. I had a Laminectomy and fusion on L4/5, in 2016, I've had the same pain every day since then, until today, that I had after the operation. I couldn't walk for the first hour after getting out of bed, every day, for one year. After 5 separate pain injections, the worst of the pain went away. Since 2017, I'm hunched over forward, when I walk, and I have slowly, over the last 7 years, lost the the ability to walk more than 60 feet. I have (had tested), nerve damage at L5 disc, and I have become a couch potatoe. I'm unable to take any pain medication, due to having had a gastric bypass 28 years ago. Let this be awarning to anyone considering having a Laminectomy done, to weigh, if your present condition might get worse.
Dr. Cantor Your video and explanations are the best explanstion of stenosis I have found. In 2015 I fell..it was so dumb. I was in a hurry and fell over an old heat grate in my hall. I was told I needed immediate fusion of the l4 and I was told I had a lot of arthritis. I walked for pt four times a day after surgery. I went back to hairstyling three months later. My back started hurting again. I continued to walk, push mow , ride a lawn tractor..do the things you do on five acres. Skip to 2023. For about a year I havev had terrible muscle spasms and pain in the mornings and then started having spasms in the evenings too. I do take Tramadol( not a lot ) to keep doing the things I need to do.. My nurse practitioner sent me for a mri. The report said severe stenosis , two bulging discs..l3 and l5 with a annular tearin l 5. Forminal stenosis, facet arthropathy....etc . etc. I don't want anymore fusions. My husband was disabled with two horribly bad knees. He recently had one replaced..second one coming up. I will be doing everything again for a while when he has his next knee replacement. This video gave me options. For now, I am coping well. I was walking three miles a day until about three months ago. We have had crazy wind storms and I picked up a lot of huge limbs. That is where I might have got the tear in my disc. I can not stop living and won't. I turned sixty seven yesterday. I want to return to an active lifestyle. We used to camp, hike etc and when my husband gets his other knee done I hope to return to these things we love. I would love to get rid of the pain. I always feel like something is moving in my back. I do have a minimal amount of antheosis in l3 going over my fused l4 Thank you. BTW you have great hair. ..sorry the hairstylist in me always looking at people's hair. 🙄lol 😆 😂 🤣 Have a great weekend.

Thank you. I had the epidural and my pain level skyrocketed after it and my pain has never been below a level 3 since. Right after the epidural my pain went to 11 and the doctor told me the only option left was surgery. He explained everything but I was in so much pain I remember very little of what he said. I have since been blessed by several PT advisors on UA-cam and have gotten my pain level down. Thank you for your explanation and experience and expertise.

I had the same experience. Three days after the epidural my pain went to a 15 and I have had very few pain free days since. PT, TENS, ice and heat, and Tylenol are my pain relief tools.
Dr. Cantor, thank you for a most informative session. I have been struggling with stenosis since April and after a couple of injections on each side of the L4, L5 I am once again mobile. The pain was so severe and debilitating that I was ready for the surgery or anything that would alleviate the discomfort and to get me off the walker. I'm glad the direct application of anti inflammatory medication worked because it has given me the time and opportunity to find your video. I will definitely stay away from the Dremel type of intervention and will hold out for ultrasound if and whenever surgery becomes necessary. I am glad I found your information.

This was an excellent presentation, if only I had received information like this before. My back was fused in 2018 and I have rods and screws. I walk but after short distances I have to sit and rest. It takes a long time to get anywhere, sometimes I can walk further but often my legs feel like lead and back pain severe. After seeing this informative video I wonder if anything can be done now. I live in France. Christine Blake
An excellent presentation Dr, Cantor. Very detailed and clear. I learned some new things. That ultrasound tool makes a lot of difference. Thank you very much! RVK, MD.(retired).
So, i had a lower lamenectomy to treat severe stenosis a year ago. No rods and no fusion and also no mention of possible troubles down the road. I got the relief i so desired but now i see i need to start being easier on my back. I'm 73, still working as a market gardener and appreciate the warning. Wish this video had popped up among the many i watched pre-op. My surgeon was great but using older technology. Wish i had known of this option as it seems far and away a better option. Id even expressed concern about the loss of bone but didnt hear any thing about loss of stability. Thanks

Wish I had known about ultrasonic technology and Dr. Cantor's techniques before I had a traditional open laminectomy (L4-L5) in Sept 2022. I'm over 8 months post-op and still struggling with much of the same pre-op pain. My post-op MRI and X-rays revealed a seroma (fluid buildup) below the laminectomy and some mild spondylolisthesis I didn't have pre-op. In March I had epidural block and fluid drawn out of seroma in March by a pain management MD. Scheduled for another epidural in 2 weeks. Recently started doing more PT. Back trouble sucks!
I had my lamenectomy in October 22. I got what the surgeon promised, relief, and for that I'm very thankful. After this video I can see my relief may be limited. Time to slow down I think. Good luck.
Thank you I'm in the UK and it's the first time in over 25 years that this condition has been explained to me other than take pain killers. However waiting lists and cost I don't believe I will ever get this treatment.

Thorough Explanation that makes TOTAL SENSE. NOW if I can only Win the Lottery... because I can Bet You CANADA does not have a Single Dr that can do this! Ughhh... THIS Dr is so down to Earth explaining it and you can tell he understands how debilitation Pain is.. Should advertise in Canada. I bet NO ONE here does this...
This was so informative, thank you so much. I had heard the names of these procedures but never really understood them. I feel so much more informed and will be more confident talking to my doctor.
Wow, thanks, I finally figured out how it works! God bless you, you save my life! I have already postponed the surgery twice, once for MILD PROCEDURE and for the second time with Laminectomies. now I have to find a specialist who will do it with the new ULTRACONIK technology.
Thank you so much for an Amazing explanation that I have been asking the doctors for 3 years, this was so beneficial to know what is happening causing the pain.
THANK YOU so much for this video. You're detailed explanation is extremely helpful. I've been a Certified Medical Assistant for 32 years in family practice but still have a difficult time understanding my condition. I'm 52 and have foraminal lumbar stenosis and spondylolisthesis. Four different neurosurgeons have recommended fusion L3-5. I'm so depressed for having to stop working. My last five jobs have fired me for not being able to work good enough. I've applied for disability. It's not good. I do not want surgery. I've never met a patient who has been happy with their spinal surgery 😢

Thank you for this video iv been suffering from lumbar stenosis and ddd for 5 years now, iv been waiting nearly 4 years for an operation on nhs, I will be having the nerve injection this week and I’m praying it helps, if not I will be very interested in the ultrasound operation. Thanks

Amazing explanation! Fascinating procedure described. I am a Pilates teacher who appreciates this. Many clients are having this “traditional” surgery. I will share this with clients…
I had pars defect of the L5. I had a fusion, but still had tons of pain. Two years later the Dr went in and performed a fusion removal and lamenectomy of my L5. I've had continuous pain going on 10 years because of my back. I have shooting pain on both sides of my lower back and can't walk too long or sit too long. I'm basically bed bound because of the pain, and have been seeing pain management for 6 years. Its completely taken over my life.

Like Brian Goulding I’m in the UK and have never really been informed as to what my problem really is. This was so understandable and visual . Would love to be able to do this procedure as I love travelling and my back problem curtails most of my activities. I do grit my teeth and do things in pain but oh! how enjoyable it would be without that pain. Thank you Dr Cantor for the explanation. Who knows? Maybe one day!
Is this available in UK as a private patient as my pain so severe it is life changing and depressing but I have severe osteoporosis and experienced 8 spinal #s lumbar and thoracic over last 3 years. I am now on Evenity injections for osteoporosis that will be for one year only. I am 67 and was a very active person who feels totally debilitated and Neuro Consultant says spinal surgery to much of a risk. All information on how to be assessed for suitability for this procedure welcome.

I have been diagnosed with lumbar arthritis in 2019 but now 2023 the MRI revealed lumbar stenosis . Thank you for not only informing me but also explaining the different treatments.currently I am having physiotherapy. I have progress from not being able to anything for myself to taking care of myself . The question I have is when does surgery become the last resort of treatment?

I’m 72, had major right knee injury in 1965 w/no surgery till 1981. Lived on farms so hard labor work was a necessity. In my 40’s started my back pain which traveled to right leg. 1999 left knee ACL injury w/ total reconstruction. 2007 Right knee total knee replacement. 2010 3 disc lumbar fusion. I have been in pain longer than I can remember. Been advised to have left knee total replacement. Also diagnosed with DDD and severe lumbar stenosis. Also been advised to have more discs fused. I live alone in a small apartment and am mobile. Other than pain my health is good for my age. The constant chronic pain causes fatigue and I don’t have the energy that I had when I was younger. Also, my spinal surgery was extremely difficult and I had many complications afterwards. Plus I was living alone. I’m not a good candidate for anesthesia anymore. It takes a long time for my organs to wake up and function normally and each time it takes longer. Thank you for explaining why I can’t stand for very long or walk long distances anymore. I’m overweight now which triples my problem but it’s mostly due to inability to be active without causing severe pain later and inability to sleep.
Love this Dr ❤ He has explained this with his videos so thoroughly ! I was diagnosed with this and know I understand it better and what can be done if ever the time comes for any kind of surgery !! THANK YOU SO MUCH DR JEFFERY !!❤❤

That was a clear and understandable video.I did not know ultra sonic surgery even existed.Thank you,Dr.Cantor.I have held off for a long time but this looks like it would solve my problems.
I am right with you. I have avoided the surgery. I thought that something better might come available. Looking for a doctor that is experienced in this method in north Texas.

Just read this as I did not know about ultrasonic procedure nor have any of the 3 surgeons I’ve gone to mentioned it… i would love to get contact information on Dr Cantor..
I am 66 years old and have been suffering with lumbar pain for many years. I finally decided to do something about it. I went to the doctor and she sent me for 15 sessions of physical therapy before any imagining had been done. I came out of the physical therapy feeling worse. When I sit or lie down the pain goes away but standing for a short amount of time is very painful. What is even worse is I have been diagnosed with early stage Parkinson's Disease and atrial fibrillation. I'm not ready to give up yet. I go to Parkinson's exercise classes which are exercises mostly seated so I don't get the pain there at least. I have been searching in Austin, TX, where I live and haven't had much luck. I finally got my PCP to give me a referral to a spine surgeon which she did. He asked me some questions, checked my reflexes, and had me walk up and down a hallway. He also wanted to send me for physical therapy until I told him the outcome of my last 15 sessions of PT. Then he suggested I get steroid injections which I'm hesitant to do. I would love to find someone in Austin, TX or the neighboring areas. I do not want to have the old procedures due to the spinal damage that can occur over time with fused joints. Short of finding an local ultrasound provider I may find myself coming to see you, Dr. Cantor to see what you can do for me.

As a retired physician i found your explanation really clear, congrats on your ability to convey things. The downsides of traditional surgical procedures seem pretty much worked out but what about problems and failure rates with ultrasonic techniques. My surgeon was very keen not to operate c5 level and he was right as after 6 months of, at times, severe discomfort things settled. How is this explained by your model of "bone junk"
I'd like to know same questions. Are there no other Docs in USA trained to perform this? Retired RN, lumbar surgeries wo hardware. 76 and I have no pain meds can't hardly walk, off friggin pain scale, etc. Drs usually are thrilled to teach others their pioneer technique. Sorry for rant..
@@jerryrobinson7856 my problem is money. Lost my business end of 2008. I ended up on Medicare, filing for disability.. I did it a few years before my time and my monthly check was a lot less. Both feet and lower legs are asleep, numb. I'm not in shape now to go through an anterior and posterior fusion from L3 to Sacrum. I would consider this ultrasound surgery if it clean enough stuff after 4 surgeries that left a lot of scar tissue, stenosis, left over disc material, new disc bulging, etc. I know Blue Cross ain't going to pay for me to go from Alabama to Florida. I've been thinking about sending my most recent MRI and report to Dr Cantor. I'm taking a wild quess this surgery is around 20k or more for Dr alone. Then all the other charges associated with hospital, anesthesia, etc. What types and how many surgeries have you had? Have you had this type of surgery somewhere? Many of these videos are 8 or so years old. A couple of newer. I have not been able to find any info on this other than Dr Cantor. My friggin brain can't take this BS much longer and been going to dark side. With both legs, hip replacement, neck, hands and fingers etc make me think how many years do I have left. They have gone by so damn fast and I'll be 77 next year! I don't want to die any time soon. Last pain Dr let me go after 2 years because I was still taking a legal Rx, Klonopin, which I was put on around 87 or 89. He and last 2 never said too much and my piss never showed anything to dismiss me. I'm a long time user of cannabis. As far as I know they never checked for it. I get sent to another pain clinic not too long ago. I knew they would do a drug screen and THC was found, duh!! Got call telling me my lab work was abnormal and I had to go back and see the psychologist. Short version is I was told my urine had THC, I said so what. It's illegal, well test but don't check. I really was wound up and started being an ass and cussed his ass out. It's 2023 and Alabama have not figured out how to get their medical marijuana dispensaries up and running. But, we will not be able to get bud or vapes! 1 route to get it is via suppository. WTF!!! 😥 Let me hear some of your history if you don't mind. If not here, maybe email. ☮️
Latest journal articles cited “The literature mentioning the complications and technical difficulties of UBS use is scarce and scanty.” it’s very technique dependent and you have to hope the dr. Performing it on that specific date and time is “there.”
What a great video! I have spinal stenosis and bad sciatica running down both legs. I live in pain😢 A surgeon wants to cut into my back and put in screws and plates...not happening! I love sport and keep myself slim and active but rely on oodles of painkillers. I wish I could find a Dr Cantor in the UK. ❤
My lumbar stenosis has gotten worse each year as i push thru the pain. Ive even had 3 RFA's and other pain management procedures. I just refuse to get a laminectomy and hope i can actually get in to see Dr Cantor i think he can really turn my situation around

I am dealing with severe pain all the time the Dr. did an xray and told my I have arthritis in my lower back which did not make any sense to me because all my other arthritic joints all came on slowly and got worse over time and my back it was all at once. I keep doing the exercises I go swimming everyday but nothing is taking away the pain. At this point I do not know what to do it kills just to try and put on my pants in the morning. People keep saying that bending over the pain should go away but that hurts more. You explaining the 2 different kinds now it all makes sense to me now I just need to find someone around here that can actually fix it.

Dr. Cantor, your video is so informative. I currently suffer from severe foraminal stenosis and a left paracentral disc protrusion. Most Orthopedic Doctors in my state are not familiar with the MILD procedure and routinely perform the Laminectomy. I am constantly in pain and would travel anywhere to have this procedure performed on my back.

Thank you for this information, im 61 yrs old going thru this problem of lumbar and cervical stenosis, hard to walk , bent over when I walk, neck hurts with pain down my arm. It all Sucks
I've been waiting 4 years following you, hoping I would be approved for medicare praying I can get this process done. L4L5 was a fell in 2021 and I can barely walk. I just want to be able to stand straight. I refused to let anyone fuse my entire back. Please, please help me. I'm going back to your site to see how I'm able to get this procedure done now that I have insurance..

Excellent presentation. What about the asymmetry of the incision into the lamina? Are there any long term studies on how that might cause problems in the long term just like the full laminectomies caused degenerative problems eventually. IT would be a perfect procedure if this were not there. This concerns me. Thoughts.

I’m in this exact scenario right now. All the symptoms you described I’ve lived by for years but this week it really showed its colors. This video is great at explaining what I think I’m up against. I’m just worried about my previous surgery in 1997 when I had a discectomy on 4-5. I’m meeting the surgeon in 2 weeks so I have time to get the MRI. I’m trying to put on a very positive attitude but I’d be lying if I said I’m not concerned.

Tyson, thank you for the wonderful feedback.
So this isn't available in Canada?
Ultrasonic is available in the GTA but you can wait up to 3 years to get on the table.
Are there any surgeons in the San Francisco Bay area practicing your ultrasonic technique for lumbar spinal stenosis
@theliftexpert thanks...I'm in BC Canada but would definitely consider this as really don't want to be in pain for whatever time I have left!
Thank you for sharing your experience with us and may you one day be pain free once more. 🙏
I can relate to you. Bless you 🙏
I'm 53 and in the same boat
Hi, I've just done a major rewrite of this comment. (As of Thursday, Sept 21, 2023.)
I’m 73 with much the same spine history you have.
(This morning I had an epidural, my first in years, and over a few hours discovered how massively my quality of life has been degraded, just by experiencing a few hours without pain.)
Through the coming winter I will double down and engage in a twice-daily floor exercise regimen to optimize whatever my core muscles are capable of to stabilize my spine.

OMG!!! I completely understand Lumbar Spinal Stenosis now, which is what I have been diagnosed with. I am calling Cantor Spine Center tomorrow.
Thank you for watching and for reaching out to the office.
I agree, he definitely explained it where you can comprehend what is happening.

If your Dr wants to pay for my travel, I could have him do my stenosis decompression and fusion

I Had a laminectomy L4/L5 L5/S1 in 1989 when I was 37. I was disappointed that it didn't make me 20 again and it hasn't been without some pain but I'm glad I had it done and I stayed active and now 71 and I still work and thank God for the great Doctors I had.
Mine was a failed surgery
I had 2 failed surgery of Laminectomy
I just had the surgery for the samething. My pain started in Oct 2023 December it got so bad I had the surgery in Feb 2024. I'm 48yrs old and I feel so much better. Still a little numb in that area, at times. But u know it takes time
Did Dr. Cantor do your latest surgery?
Not that helpful if you never got an MRI
But some good insight there ty

Thank you.

Philip, thank you for watching and the feedback.

Wish this video had popped up among the many i watched pre-op. My surgeon was great but using older technology. Wish i had known of this option as it seems far and away a better option.
Good luck.
Thanks for the detailed explanation about future treatment options.
Thank you I'm in the UK and it's the first time in over 25 years that this condition has been explained to me other than take pain killers. However waiting lists and cost I don't believe I will ever get this treatment.

Excellent Video Doctor Cantor!
Revolutionary work Dr Cantor.
Thank you for watching the video!

Thank you very much. Excellent presentation for a person (me) who is needing to know for my own health thereof.
I really was wound
up and started being an ass and cussed his ass out.
Thank you and may God bless you!.

Great video and so awesome how surgeries progress.
Thank you for he feedback!
Thank you , Dr. CANTOR❤
Excellent presentation. What about the asymmetry of the incision into the lamina? Are there any long term studies on how that might cause problems in the long term just like the full laminectomies caused degenerative problems eventually. IT would be a perfect procedure if this were not there. This concerns me. Thoughts.
I'm no doctor but everything you read and said made sense. I want my structure preserved 😢 I hurt everyday. I'm a puzzle they can't solve.
