    You didn't talk about practical things, like can I wear them in the shower, when swimming, or how long each sensor lasts (do I need to replace it every week/month/quarter). Can I see the results on my own phone? Does it use my phone to report to someone else? Who does it report to, Abbot labs, my insurance company, law enforcement (in the case of the alcohol sensor)?

    • @Justin_tech
      @Justin_tech 2 роки тому +3

      Yes you can wear it in the shower. They are meant to be worn for up to 14 days. Yes you can see the results on your phone, Marc mentions that.

      I wear mine in the shower and while swimming. It's proven tech; diabetics have been using them for years. It's life-changing. I swap them out every two weeks. Scan with my iPhone several times a day. Once it's on, you barely notice it's there.

    • @917073
      @917073 2 роки тому +1

      After 14 days the cgm system shuts itself off. Used to be hackeable to extend; since the battery has waaaay more capacity. But they locked that, planned obsolescence.

    • @917073
      @917073 2 роки тому +1

      I am not sure what i will do with my 26 dead sensors each year. Each has a small 1.5V battery, thermistor, NFC transponder, microcontroller, ...
      Of course the technology is fairly new, but for what it is it is overpriced (what my health insurence mostly has to pay); and it feels just so wasteful.

    • @xnadave
      @xnadave 2 роки тому +1

      @@917073 There's a risk of clotting at the site if it's not replaced. 14 days is pretty conservative, but it's way better than the 3 day intervals for my insulin pods. I wouldn't call this planned obsolescence; it's not like a phone that intentionally degrades performance over the course of a year. $75/mo isn't cheap, but it's made a huge difference in my A1C. I can't imagine going back to test strips.

    I love, love, love it, I'm red going to use it for both glucose (I'm prediabetic now) and for ketone and for lactic acid (because of my diabetes I'm gonna have to start working out) I'm even thinking using it for alcohol consumption, the only thing for me is I live in Australia and I don't know if it's going to be available anytime soon 😭

    I can see it helping people in which I think that's great. But on the other side I've seen technology being half baked. I've seen issues with iRobot, desktop printer application on PC, smart lights, Samsung's wearable tech etc. Just about anything and I'm trying not to be such a tech enthusiast anymore because it feels like in my opinion there's lack of accountability from today's manufacturers so I try not to get too excited and just remain skeptical. But I just want to make sure that the consumers actually get what the product is advertised and instead of having to fix the product later with the software update because that seems to be the norm now these days. But if this product works great and people benefit from it then that's fine but in my opinion accept the risks of your personal data and maybe the possibility of receiving a faulty product just like anything you may buy but I wish the consumers the best and purchasing that product.

      Yeah could be a great tool but the scary part is the data going back to the mothership. As long as you are in control of the data, it's fine. But I assume it's not like that here.

    It would at least be cheaper than a cgm?

    • @thunderb00m
      @thunderb00m 2 роки тому +1

      Less certification/ regulation process plus larger addressable market means it will be definately cheaper
      But that doesn't mean you can use this instead of cgm if you have diabetes. In case anything goes wrong you won't be able to hold the company liable since it's not a medical device.

      People would rather pay a Company to tell them what to do, than take matters into their own hands, a problem only getting worse.
      Imagine people thinking they can only lose weight through ketosis and your phone telling you how much you should eat...
      I only see applications with medically challenged and highest performance athletes (like professional and Olympic)

    I'd love to track everything, best of course with just one device. Just so that I would be able to access all this data in case of a health problem, or it could even warn you month before some severe problem kicks in. With more and more stuff measured like vitamins, hormons and all the stuff that's out there I would imagine such a device to really be able to save your life or extend your lifespan
