As a Chinese I think France is great country, I am very curious that why it has occupies so many colonies more than Germany.
Because Germany was never a big colonial power. The different city states in Germany didn't even form into a single country until 1871. Which is pretty late in the colonial game 😅. They did later conquer a few parts of Africa, but after they were defeated in World War 2 all those colonies were taken away from them.

People often failed to realise how big 🇬🇫 French Guiana is, its area is equivalent to 13% of France's total area. A similar comparison can be made between Alaska and the United States. In other words, France isn't really a European country, it should be classified as a transcontinental country.
The same can be said of Denmark.
98% of the population leaves in Europe. That's why the word "transcontinental" is not really used. Same for Spain with their territories in Africa.
That's different with transcontinental countries like Russia (25% of the population in Asia) and Turkey (25% of the population in Europe even if it's a small part of the territory).
