I think most of mainland Europe is still free from grey squirrels. I see red squirrels pretty much every day. They're all over our parks, cemeteries and even residential areas, here in Cologne. They have an easy life here, what with access to bird feeders (some people also feed them directly, of course) and mild winters. They are not considered endangered in any way, as far as I know.

Yes! Used to be lots of them! Numbers have declined from many reasons though
