justice for hotel 😤 one of my fave seasons, it deserved so much better idc if there's no outstanding plot, the acting was so good and it hit right into the emotions 🙄😫
Hotel is one of the few seasons I like to rewatch, I think it's because of the cinematography and how it connects HH Holmes, vampires, and has a mystery "who done it" story. Thank you for another great video!!
Ngl, I cried with Liz when the Countess told her she smelled female. It must've been ecstatic(? Cathartic?) to be validated like that, especially back in those days
@@keittykit i love when something paranormal acknowledges a trans character's reality ( but i can also appreciate when the paranormal thing is just as biased as any human, so the character has to assert their truth even against superhuman forces )
As a gay… well i guess goth, and a Gaga fan, hearing She Want Revenge in AHS, while catching up on all seasons prior and watching this as my first “live viewing” Man even my own dad was in pure shock to the scene while i stood there jaw dropped, to eventually a smile to how i was anticipating the later episodes were gonna hold up to those few minutes in that one episode
I loved this season but i felt so bad for scarlet because basically both of her people's abandoned her for her brother or they did their own thing then they sent her to a school(which let's be honest was the best decision that they made for her)
Liz Taylor was unironically my introduction into learning more about trans people. I grew up christian and with a lot of transphobic mentality because of it and I had never met a trans person. When I watched this season as a teenager it seriously made me rethink my world views because of how much I enjoyed Liz Taylor’s character. I’m such a proponent now for representation in media because of how valuable it can be for acceptance and understanding, especially when it makes its way into the homes of people who have had sheltered/biased upbringings. My family too has come a long way too with transphobia as I slowly try to introduce the idea that trans people are just people.
Liz Taylor is best girl, fight me. ❤ During her flashback scene, when her fuckwit coworkers started coming down the hall, I was literally holding my breath thinking “please don’t let her get hate crimed, oh gods PLEASE don’t make us watch her get hate crimed”. The end of that scene and the resolution to her whole storyline was so fulfilling. 🥰
I love how the Ten Commandments Murders were so irrelevant to what makes this season good that you didn't really even mention them until the reveal of who the killer was xD
@@cainvarner you mentioned that there were murders going on, but didn't talk about the gimmick of them being related to the Ten Commandments is all I meant, sorry.
Since this idea is formed around the Cecil Hotel and H.H Holmes’ murder hotel, I think the serial killer doctor showing up makes sense, as well as Ramirez because he lived at the Cecil for a while. Everyone else…just why?
I like all the HH Holmes stuff, but I do not understand why Richard Ramirez, Jeffrey, Dahmer, Aileen Wuornos, and John Wayne Gacy, needed to be in the story at all. It kind of feels like filler.
@@cainvarner i think it was more for James and John's story. It shows how powerful James was cuz he was their mentor and also makes us learn more about John and the upcoming twist.
@@cainvarnerto be honest, AHS has always had an obsession with real life murders and serial killers. Much like a lot of US media. I mean, I’m literally from the country where every decade there’s at least something going “what if Jack the Ripper was a ghost, a knife that possesses people or a very red doctor and her trans grim reaper butler?” Yeah, the sensationalism of serial killers in media happens a lot. With ones like Zodiac and the Ripper, I can get it to an extent as those are unsolved. Depicting real life known serial killers outside of a documentary though? It’s something that irks me. Especially when they try and do a “sexy” drama like Dahmer and recreate the deaths of those who were murdered by him.
i thought Liz was a surprisingly good representation of an older trans woman and she's one of my favorite parts of Hotel, which is my favorite season after Coven ; i also really enjoyed her love story, as tragic as it was for a while there - i thought the Countess was fun and i still say "for days" because of her iconic pickup line ~
I love the Valentino storyline! Honestly, it's a little horrifying that a huge portion of cinema is being lost by younger generations. Valentino was the great lover. Women committed suicide when he death was announced. I love how they throw historically accurate events in AHS!
Hotel is my favorite season of AHS. While there may not be a solid plot, I like how character-driven it is and that it wraps up the storylines (unlike many other seasons)
Perfect timing I just finished my AHS Hotel rewatch ✨️ Coven is the season of Mothers but this season is just Icons! Everyone brought their A+ gmae to the characters and there's so mamy iconic scenes/moments
Ngl Hotel and Death Valley are the two seasons I had to drop midway through cause I couldn't stand them 😭. GAGA DESERVED ALL THE AWARDS SHE GOT THO. I actually did like Devils Night tbh (mostly cause Lily was incredible as Aileen) but it would've made more sense if they just made original characters based on the killers. (Except maybe Ramirez since he stayed at the Cecil for a bit) Oh and fun fact originally Emma was going to be in the season! I'm rusty on who she would've played I read some things saying Madison, but other things saying a new character. But she was busy with Scream Queens so they got Gabourey instead.
This is one of my favorite seasons. I've rewatched it the most next to 1984. Some of my favorite parts of AHS are the interactions between all these characters with all this backstory and when they're dead and ghosts, how they have reconcile their histories with those people in the forever afterlife. I think it's so fun how they iris and Liz get all the ghosts to stop killing and make the hotel successful. It's this strange happily ever after and liz's send off is beautiful. TBH this is also why I love 1984 haha.
I agree with your points. This was a great character-driven season since ALL of the characters are pretty fantastic...with the exception of two: 1. Detective Boring 2. Dr. Detective Boring's Wife That's what I always call them because I could never manage to remember their characters' actual names. Plus, what I COULD remember about them made them more off-putting than sympathetic. I just felt so bad for their daughter, having to live in the shadow of her missing brother with two parents who DEFINITELY let her know that she was never their favorite, and who both end up fully abandoning her 😥 Other than that, I loved this season. Liz Taylor is an entire vibe wrapped up in an enchanting enigma 💜
it’s the lowest by like a lot for some reason. although, most RT scores are based on the first one or two episodes of any given season, so maybe most publications just hated the first couple episodes but grew to like it later on…?
Great video as always!! I know it would be an undertaking but a recap of Supernatural is something I think alot of people would be interested in considering it gets nuts in the later seasons.
this season is definitely one of my favourites, but i have to say all the male characters (besides james, i love him and he stuck out in a good way) all molded together in my brain and i genuinely could not tell the difference between any of them.
if i could get a cut of hotel with all the serial murder obsession excised, i'd probably be a lot happier with it. gaga? slay. vampire children? creepy af. liz taylor and iris? stunning. human trophy room and serial killer worship? gross, weak, and miss me with that great video as always! probably for the best you took a coupla days extra, came out strong 💪
Hey thanks for covering this! I love AHS and was so excited when this season dropped, then I got to the first drill man scene and had to stop. I had recently been SA’d and couldn’t handle it. Luckily I’m older and out of high school now so I think I might be able to go back and watch it, knowing that the drill man isn’t such a huge part of the season.
Flicker was the episode that made AHS Hotel my favorite season. the historical references, the aesthetic, Lullaby by the Cure, the drama… it was so magical, especially as someone who is obsessed with 1920s media.

Also, i dig the devils night idea but as many of murphy’s sparks of genius, the execution is floppy. Like the wasted potential of the hotel and roanoke many inhabitants. If one would dig deep into the themes that show up in the show, that one really show get a whole essay. On fun stuff, the gang of kid vampires Is possibly my favorite thing out there season, deeply disturbing, showing the tragic nature of vampism and eternal life but also the complete ludicrous Idea of small kids running around as a gang of bloodsuckers.
Your recaps are always so good and this video is no exception! As someone who's never seen American Horror Story you do a great job explaining characters a plot in a way thats cohesive. I can't wait to see whatever you put out next!
So, I would love it if you talked about Hemlock Grove. 3 seasons, amazing cast, bonkers story, vampires and werewolves in the modern day, it's fantastic!
It wouls be cool if the ghosts' pictures had a different background color or some sort of black/white filter over them, maybe one that would fit a picture for the era they died in

It's so crazy off the rails and I love it.
Hotel is so fun to rewatch. Lady Gaga and Liz Taylor? Chef's kiss. Vampire kids? Creepy and i can dig it, especially the horror of seeing everyone around grow up but you never will. Spooky hotel with hidden rooms, hallways and passages that traps your soul if you die there? Wonderful. Im with you though irt the serial murderer worship and unnecessary grape scenes, an issue that i have w/most of the series tbh. I think thats a big part of why i liked 1984 so much. It still has the unfortunate problem of casting a very attractive man to play richard ramirez, which just feels weird to me as that case is still fairly recent. But there was no gratuitous 🍇! Which is a low bar, but ill take it.
I am so happy for long recaps like this because I tried to watch this but once that man came out the mattress I knew this wasn’t for me 😂😂 every season after the first one has been to scary for me to actually watch.
Sidenote but I really appreciate that you use the term penultimate correctly. Anyway hotel is definitely my favorite season, coven is a close second and I always find it so funny that Queenie is in LA to be on the price is right
I think you've truly found your groove now, these deep dives are getting so good! I hope your subs continue to grow so fast! P.S. your Australian accent is getting better! Do you ever just drop it in to your speech in your normal life by accident and confuse all your friends? 😂
I love these videos. After American Horror Story, maybe Once Upon a Time? Or you could do Buffy the Vampire Slayer if you wanted to go for a classic. Or you could do Stranger Things if you wanted a similar size to AHS.
If you stick with the horror theme Dead of Summer has a great cast, tons of camp, and a who dunnit style, with a smaller cast, it would fit really well with your style of content and it's hardly covered @@cainvarner

as someones first intro to AHS being hotel its really conusing
every recap you put out I devour immediately
I forgot John’s wife even existed
I think you've truly found your groove now, these deep dives are getting so good! I hope your subs continue to grow so fast!
P.S. your Australian accent is getting better! Do you ever just drop it in to your speech in your normal life by accident and confuse all your friends? 😂
no because all my friends and i frequently have always slipped into it. that’s why i randomly use it in my videos 😭
@@cainvarner ahaha that's so fun 😂😂, I thought it was just a homage to Mike's Mic, but it's even better that you always just do this 😂😂
Literally one of my fav seasons just bc of Lady Gaga and vampires duh 💁🏻♀️ love your videos!!
“This is lady Gaga playing herself” and I love her 💖
YAAAY im so glad you decided to cover this one ! I love your videos so much! I cant wait to see your future work❤❤
I love these videos. After American Horror Story, maybe Once Upon a Time? Or you could do Buffy the Vampire Slayer if you wanted to go for a classic. Or you could do Stranger Things if you wanted a similar size to AHS.
i dislike stranger things. so i don’t think i would ever do that lol. i wanna do OUAT but there’s already like 5 recaps of that show.
If you stick with the horror theme Dead of Summer has a great cast, tons of camp, and a who dunnit style, with a smaller cast, it would fit really well with your style of content and it's hardly covered @@cainvarner
I swear this is my favourite season of ahs I know it’s unpopular but I jus loved it
Evan peters with dark hair🛐 idc it’s one of my fav specially with the convince love story with the countess and James! I wish they could of explore it more as well with other stories !
I never actually watched this one, but Gaga slayed
i always forget the majority of the story and only remember the iconic bits; but by this season the wheels were falling off the wagon for me
