so i’ve seen some people having concerns regarding the pyramid rankings. i wanna say it was not an intention of mine to rank Delphine the real life person above some of the characters. the entire reason why i love the Delphine scenes is because of Kathy Bates. her performance is amazing. I definitely did not do enough to specify that my support for her comes from my love of her as an actor. maybe i shouldn’t have done the pyramids in hindsight. it was definitely not my intention and I’m sorry it comes across that way.
I personally don’t see a problem with the pyramids. I enjoyed the different set up & it was a cute call back. I completely understood that you were talking about the CHARACTER on the SHOW & how fantastic Kathy Bates portrayed Delphine. You could’ve given more context about the particular scene or situation that made you place her higher on the pyramid at times but please don’t get rid of doing the pyramid if it’s appropriate for the season. I feel like it was obvious that you weren’t trying to glorify anything bad that Delphine did on the show or real life but it never hurts to repeat that point throughout the video. lol do you boo boo! I am obsessed & binging all of your videos now! 😘❤😍

In fairness, it's not like you didn't explain that right at the beginning of the video, pretty sure you got complained at by people who wanted something to complain about more than people who were genuinely upset
Anyone who took it to mean the actual person needs to get offline and go touch some grass because that’s ridiculous. We’re talking about the fictional character portrayal and that was very obvious. Some people are just angry to be angry because they have all this excess energy they could be spending on actual advocacy but instead they’re just being lazy and vile to people minding their literal own business.
Maybe it’s because I’m black but I definitely saw Queenie switching sides as a powerful moment for her. Delphine did not deserve any grace at all after torturing and dismembering innocent slaves. Bottom tier of the pyramid for me
yeah i love that she found a community with Marie but at the same time why does that have to be at the expense of her friendships with the witches? i dont know i love queenie but it’s like confusing why she wanted to turn on her friends out of nowhere. worked out in the end when they all joined forces.

@@yahellaghettortatataa9535 i love queenie but like i said before this is the fault of the show runners for not including the actors of color in the main cast. Angela Basset and Gabourey Sidibe should’ve been considered starring actors. but the season kinda portrays them as villains at times which is why they sometimes find their way to the lower end of the pyramid. like i said before i love 10/12 of the characters. almost equally so it’s very hard to rank them especially when they aren’t given equal screen time if that makes sense.think it’s more frustrating to me to see a character i love kinda be written to be perceived as a villain when i wouldn’t immediately say they were. though i probably should’ve articulated that instead of saying i had beef with her.
I mean , they were her “friends” but most of the other girls really did not treat her well. Like at all . So I also get it like a lot . Madison especially is awful to her. And no one really recognizes her as worthy.
@theabifro1742 i mean from my pov like zoe and nan and cordelia were great to her. however, i am white so i cannot relate to being the only poc in a room and feel how isolating that can be. i wanna say it does make sense for her to change sides with marie. but i felt like the way it was presented was wrong like putting them against each other wasn’t a great idea. and that’s on madison too. they should’ve toned the madison beef with queenie down. and the moment of queenie killing the witch hunter is so cathartic. i had a whole section of the recap i cut out where i talked about how well done the scene was but i cut it out because it sounded performative coming from a non black person imo. but that whole scene still gives me goosebumps and gets me very emotional. anyway i do regret some of the language i used surrounding the situation.
Honestly props to the actors who consistently portray crusty ass individuals. It must take a toll on the soul.
I really really wish they gave Marie and Queenie more to do. It was a lost opportunity
and not crediting them as mains pisses me off bc they’re in it more than spaulding and kyle arguably.
Lance Reddick was straight amazing as Papa Legba. I really did enjoy almost every character of this season. All the performers acted their arses off.

I so wish that Nan was involved in the finale. And maybe even the Supreme just to piss all the girls off LMAO. She was my fav witch for sure
I genuinely hate the fact that Zoe's personal hell was just her and Evan Peter's character (literally forgot his name) breaking up over and over, I hate that so much and I understand that shes so in love with him but, girl get a grip he wouldn't leave you even if you wanted him too. What I don't understand is why it was written like that, It seems very shallow especially cs homegirl was just slaying zombies not too long ago. If it was her LOSING him, as in like he died somehow that'd work way better than wtv we got...
it pissed me off because like without him she basically has no character but like the zombie thing and also her killing spaulding was ICONIC and everything else with her is just bland bc she’s in a storyline with kyle. 😭. they could’ve had her personal hell be something to do with constantly killing kyle with her magic or something. but like GIRL bye him leaving is not a valid fear. 😭
@@cainvarner FORREAL I feel like as good as this season is, some characters and storylines (Zoe, Kyle and the "love triangle" they had with Madison) fall very flat, it's almost as if they're half assed. They lack emotion, cs I felt way worse for Tate and Violet and they were messy but their love was written with passion unlike Kyle and Zoe.

Ryan Murphy absolutely ran out of ideas and fell back on the tired “boy trope.” I like to think Zoe’s actress brought more nuance to the character in her performance and natural compassion, but she could only do so much with what was in the script.
On an AHS binge right now. The first four seasons were truly ICONIC
this season is so good that despite AHS taking the downturn that it has, it's still one of my favorite shows of all time because of these MOTHERS!!!! This season is just the reverse bechdel test in the best way possible because the two most prominent male characters liiterally cant talk.

This season quite literally is the reason I have a crush on Lily Rabe. That woman SLAYS so hard as Misty Day and she is just so iconic and gorgeous I adore her and I love Misty and her death will always kill me 😭
And I'm so excited for the Freak Show recap bc she's my favorite season (with Asylum a close second and Coven an even closer third)

@RealBradMiller personally NYC is one of my favorite seasons. I would say top three or four. No one seems to get it and it’s really frustrating. Delicate so far is like number seven or eight it’s not the worst season I’ve seen. But I definitely think it’s a little rushed due to the strikes.
My favorite season is hands down asylum I love coven but asylum just has a special place in my heart

@@cristenkray5192 as a black person, its never that serious. kathy bates, while playing a real person, absolutely killed my performance. every time she was on screen i was enraged while watching the show- which means she's doing her fucking job right!!! doing this video in a pyramid format was the best way to go bc thats literally how the show feels. all the witches were fighting for the top spot at a certain point so it felt right. cain stressed time and time again that he likes her PERFORMANCE, not the character. fuckin chill dude

As I said, it was just done in poor taste and this wasn’t the season to have done the pyramid format for. It was just weird and I get that they didn’t really think about it but that’s still a problem. You didn’t say anything I didn’t already know and take into consideration when I made the comment originally. I even saw their apology, and I appreciate that they listened to the people telling them that it was done in poor taste.

Thank you for doing all these recaps!! I live for horror but AHS relies so heavily on 🍇 as part of the plotlines that I simply ~cannot~ sit down and watch it in full so getting breakdowns and recaps and highlight reels like this is really nice

It’s true. I got so less than midway into hotel and just couldn’t do it. I watched 1984 because I love 80s horror, but even that was just d*ck jokes. Honestly, the show lost the plot pretty quickly and there’s no reason to have R-word, etc just for shock value

Spaldings backstory in american horror stories was so interesting when put in context with Madison being dressed as a doll
The theme song to this season is my alarm clock song and the Freakshow one is my ringtone for incoming calls. Misty is my favorite witch in Coven. Everytime she danced to Stevie Nicks music, I would get up and dance with her. She was beautiful and a good person. I always thought that Madam Dalphine was witchy herself. She was basically using blood and glamour magick with slave blood.
Watched all three in one day while tackling some chores, this type of re-cap content is my jam lately and I was genuinely surprised and go to your channel and see that you didn't have like a billion videos. Very professionally and well done with great humor injected in, excited to see what else you put out!😊
First, you ate this UP and I've joined your coven. You pretty much captured all the things I LOVE about Coven and most of my complaints.
This is by far the most ICONIC and beloved season of Ahs while being the most blatant example of Ryan and his writers' inability to maintain continuity, fill plot holes, build onto great plot points, and check their biases. I HATE that Angela and Gabby were not hired as full cast members and how the Black characters and their magic were treated with so little respect. How could they consult with Voodoo practitioners to recreate a fertility ritual but not ask them ANYTHING about their other spellworks?! HOW could they not research the LOA?! They reduced Papa Legba, who exists in numerous West African religions as the Keeper of the crossroads into a DEMON of all things.
They introduced Marie Laveau as equal to, if not more powerful than the Supreme yet she was utterly powerless to stop a single witch hunter from eradicating her coven (That was so triggering to see even a magical community of Black people unable to escape a White man with a gun tbh). Why wasn't her home covered in centuries worth of protection spells?! Why didn't she and her coven fight back with magic AT ALL?! Why would someone of Marie's background choose to sacrifice Black babies instead of White ones (both are bad yall don't start) and why would a Deity that followed his people to the Caribbean and Americas during the slave trade even allow it??
Queenie joining Marie made sense because while she is a witch, her powers are Voodoo in origin, giving her access to both wellsprings of magic. Also as the only Black girl in the coven she didn't feel like she truly belonged. I wish they showed scenes of Marie teaching Queenie Voodoo, and more scenes of Queenie using Voodoo. Her relationship with the coven girlies was one of proximity (at first) but I hated how nasty she was to Cordelia. I wish they ended Coven with Queenie rebuilding the Voodoo witches while also being a liaison between the Voodoo witches and the coven witches.
Lastly (I know lmao) what TF was that power Zoey used against the zombies that scared Marie and why didn't they do anything else with it???
I mean I'm not surprised sadly many shows like ahs will use witch craft/voodoo/paganism in their shows but won't do much actual research into it at all
This season specifically did something to my brain when it first aired and ive never been the same since 💅💅
This show feels like it was written by a writers’ room full of very young writers just out of school with lots of cool ideas but very little experience and severe ADHD. And it probably was because you can get away with paying them less. I wanted to love it so much, but it’s just okay overall. I wish they would have just dropped most of the ideas and focused on really developing just a few of them. Instead we get a scattershot of half baked ideas and tonal whiplash. Makes me sad when I think of how much potential it had..

As a Black person. I was really rooting for Delphine to make a full turn around redemption arc. She was so close but it also wasn't surprising she relasped. She's a piece of sht but she did suffer alot for her sins already, so if she learned her lesson and actively chose to do good, especially in the black community. She could've made up for her pass deeds. But she dug her feet in ofc. I completely understand Queenie switching sides it was her moment. Though I agree her attitude switching was off. But it was a good thing overall. She did seem to learn alot from the voodoos and it made her more powerful. Not to mention now that the voodoos are gone, she can carry on the knowledge.
That’s why I do like the scene where Queenie confronts her in her old house; because she sees people being dragged on the news for doing stuff that she sees as Childsplay compared to what she’s done. Plus the whole “they’re only sorry they got caught” line is very insightful; did she really come to a realisation or was it that she had to play nice because she was surrounded by people that could make life hell for her?
I was rooting for her too 😞😞 not on some yte power bullsht but hoping she'd learn something valuable! I enjoyed watching her be tormented with the current integrated times and thought for just a second there that maybe, just maybe. They're like that though, unfortunately. I'm one of them, they tell me what they think and they get so so so close sometimes. Prejudice is a stupid choice.

Coven was my starting point for AHS, so yeah, I'm probably biased regarding it. Love that you love it. Many early (as in by s7) rankings I saw usually put s3 at the bottom.

This was such a good trilogy of retrospectives, you can see your confidence grow with each one. I think the Queenie stuff was more nuanced than you gave it credit for but overall this was a great video. I hope we don't have to wait 7months for the next one... 😂

You fucked up what Cordelia said to Fiona so much. She doesnt just cruelly watch her mother die because "she doesn't deserve mercy" she stays with her mother in her final moments so Fiona isn't alone like she fears. Cordelia stays with AS an act of mercy

@@cainvarner oh I agree, it was just the spiritual/supernatural aspect in the show really gave it another layer of horror. In real life aspect, it was a horror movie too. Like so many of these monsters are actually based off real people and it’s just so… sickening to know they walk amongst us even today, maybe even more so.

Misty Day! Ah she was my favorite when I first watched the season as a teen. There was definitely a trope of Stevie Nicks flavored vampire/witch moments in my life around then when I used to read the House of Night series and watch AHS... bit cringe to talk about that as 27 year old adult, but c'est la vie.
