This really hurt my heart. I'm from Pennsylvania and I'm Appalled. This is disgusting. And as a pennsylvanian, I am so sorry. 😔
As an American, I’m embarrassed, too.
u should b
I'm also from PA and this is horrible, I'm so sorry Jonathan
I too am from PA and utterly disgusted! I am so so sorry
This is awful and terrifying
I love all the Americans arguing that this would never happen and is fake...like have they not seen the suburban white families with literal confederate flags as lawn decorations??
It's so naive to think that homophobia is nonexistent in America. The fact that it's tolerant predominantly on the west coast is something most people just don't understand. Literally why would someone hate on a public figure who is speaking up about the assault they have experienced when it raises awareness that violence towards gay people is still thriving in this country.
Yeah and even from people who seem to be more accepting of diversity can be homophobic. I knew someone who told me that I couldn’t be Jewish and queer and that by being queer I was a bad jew. This was from another Jewish person who i was honestly shocked to hear that because they seemed like an accepting person
I live in a small town in TEXAS and I'm sorry I don't buy this story. We have a guy that dances through town and is obviously lgbtqia and our towns FB page is full of absolute love for this guy! Even the macho new money guys love seeing him in town. We also have many trans kids that thrive in our schools. Are there racist and bigots absolutely but if anything like this happened in our town the person would be dispensed from the store immediately by several people.
@@Dayna-Punky good for you!
🏳️🌈 people are k!ller in the US on the regular. The murders might always be reported as such, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t happening. Even if we were k!lled
in the public square they’d deny it’s happening.
So so sorry you experienced that in my country. I am a 71 yo white grandmother raised in Alabama by evangelicals. I witnessed people being persecuted for their sexual orientation and later my own sister, who was gay, brutally beaten and raped while the cops refused to arrest her attackers saying she “deserved”it. As an adult I turned away from all religion and have made it my mission to teach my children and grandchildren to be kind and love all peoples based on their character as Martin Luther King taught. Love to you and all those who have suffered at the hands of narrow minded cruel people. Just know there is love in the world. We just need to stand up and show it. ❤
Omg that's horrendous. Please keep talking and telling people these important stories of why the world cannot go backwards
This is so awful, I’m sorry your sister went through this. I’m glad you’re using that horrendous experience to spread love and teach your children and grandchildren that it simply is not acceptable to treat people like this! ❤
Why Americans are triggered by this story? This is real and you have to deal with it.
You believed this? Hey, I have a bridge to sell you if you're interested?
@@tsuchigumo7058 I know, right?! Imagine taking the information actually available and forming an opinion as opposed to you who just decides something true, so therefore it is! Taking facts and information to help form an educated opinion is such a gullible thing to do, right?
@@Not_An_EV it is gullible when the story is vague and doesn't actually make any sense when you critically think about it.
@i_live_under_a_bridge3454 but instead you blindly and ideologically believe in this because you feel like you "should" do you remember Jussie smollett at all? His story became national, only for it to be extremely fake. Which anyone who critically thought about that case knew it was a lie as soon as it happened too.
@@tsuchigumo7058what is vague about his story?
Completely awful and unacceptable. I’m sorry you experienced that.
Awful, unacceptable...and fake
Oh stop the fake drama 😂😂😢😢😢😢😢
@@dagnut go on ..
@thesoul2sqeeze it's total bullshit. So after he threatens to kill him they them have conversation about where he's from?
On behalf of not just Americans, but human kind, I’m so sorry that this happens to anyone! 😭😭
Omg hearing this story what he experienced is just horrible. Jonathan is the sweetest man, immensely talented, absolutely down to earth, kind, there is a lot of goodness you can feel when looking at his eyes or listening him talking. And look what the world we live in where there are as**oles who discrimate others just because they have different sex orientation. Love is love and we definitely do not live in loving world. This is so sad.
Hardly horrible. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@rosk.wilburn5847it's obviously horrible, unless you are a psychopath.
This actually made me cry. Mr Bailey thank you for your bravery in sharing this story. People want to believe it’s fake because they cannot face the truth. My husband is a survivor of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda and hate and evil such as this still very much exist in our world. Everyone who thinks that the Holocaust or the Rwandan genocide would never happen again need to be reminded that it can and it will (and is still) happening. WE MUST NOT BE SILENT IN THE FACE OF SUCH HATE AND DEHUMANIZATION. You are an amazing human being, sir.
The way he describes the event and the impact on him is wonderfully clear.
My experiences of racism have felt the same.
Thank you Jonathan for articulating.
Why are people saying that he's faking the story? Bigotry is still pretty alive in the US.
Jonathan is too honest
Genuine charming man❤
Because they can't accept that life for queer people is a struggle especially when they take part in verbal spat against the LGBTQ community
I live in Toronto Canada and I've experienced it here as well. Just walking home at night and a rando on his porch yelling at me "fucking f@gg0t". It is not uncommon. People i know and care about have experienced it as well.
Many people still think that it is ok to be rude and unkind to gay people, as they feel it is their Christian duty to do so.
And it’s funny because that’s the opposite of Christianity. Religion is about love, compassion, care, safety.
If you believe religion is about love, compassion, care, and safety then you’ve might not have been on the receiving side of “Christian Love”. Seems like they target bully anyone who is different just to control member of their own religion not to step out of line or you’ll be next. That bully from Pennsylvania had full confidence to say and do those things because he felt safe knowing the Christian church was behind him.
That’s where you are wrong. A real Christian would not have approached him in that way, nor said those vile things, no matter what their convictions are. Love thy neighbor.
@jen0718love your neighbour who would have been someone like you , with your values and beliefs it doesn't refer to any old pervert who happens to move in next door
@@jimmyfaulkner5746 I guess that is true. It is hard for me to be kind to the religious people next door who defend and protect grown men forcing child marriage to 12 and 14 years girls. But if the Church says this perversion fine then who am I to say what consenting ADULTS do.
So sorry that happened to you. You are a phenomenal actor. Thank you for speaking out against injustice and prejudice.
I’m deeply disappointed but unfortunately I’ve experienced so much of this kind of behavior! After 2016 people feel licensed to be the worst they can be! Trump is a huge advocate for division and hate!
I'm a proud Ally. I'm so sorry this happened to you in my country. Please know there are a lot of us Americans who support you.
Love you Jonathan ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜, your so gorgeous and charming
Literally breaks my heart that people can be so horrible. 😢😢 Sorry this happened to you. 🙏🏾🙏🏾💜💜
This is so depressing. I don’t know where to go to escape this hatred. I'm so sorry you experienced this.
im from pennsylvania and I am so sorry, this breaks my heart💔
Even tho I’m not apart of the LGBTQ community, I would never imagine pushing someone down because of who they choose to love. It hurts my heart that people still are so dense that they can’t look past the fact that others can live their lives the way they want. It makes scared for future generations that cannot respect and support each other. And those dense minded people believe the world revolves around them.
I appreciate what you're trying to say. I offer the following simply b/c you seem like a good-hearted person that likely would not try to offend anyone. But to be clear, love is not a choice. No one chooses to be LGBTQ+. No one decides who or what attracts them. You can chose how you respond, but identity, attraction & love will always be there no matter what you do.
@@H1ST0RYWriter Thank You and yes, I agree with you! I understand people can’t choose who they are attracted to. And thank you for setting it nicely!
I’m sorry if I sounded rude.
I am sorrowful and ashamed that Americans treat gay and trans people with such hatred and indignity.
It hurts hearing he faced it how horrible thinking of thar man😢
That is a heartbreaking post. When will we ever learn?
I am so sorry Jonny! I’m from PA and this is disgusting
This is so horrible. I wish I could give him a big hug 🩷❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜
I’m so sorry that Americans seem to go out of their way to be homophobic and that you had to be on the receiving end of the worst that my country has to offer. And best wishes for tomorrow night; you’re a shoe-in to win the Emmy for portraying Skippy in “Fellow Travelers”. You were phenomenal!
Beautiful consideration of how it affected people around him as well
Majority of Americans are not like this. We are a divided nation, with slavery/racism being the knife in America’s loins… there are bigots here. However, so many of us are fighting for change.
I will say this, to all the people who are saying he's lying or that what he is saying didn't happen, I hope that if something like this happens to you, that people will believe you and support you instead of calling you a liar. As an American, the denial that some people have that this kind of stuff happens is insane, it happens all the time. I've witnessed it firsthand
As an American, please KNOW that idiots always speak the loudest and do NOT represent the majority of us! Love you 💜
i dunno from what I've seen they are the majority of you.
The thing is, as an lgbtq person, I don't know anyone who hasn't been hurt and frightened a number of times in their lives. Like this example says, it can only be a few sentences of intimidation, and the violence has a long tail effect. Exactly as they intended, the realities of trauma like this are a very real violence.
@@svipulvalke9913that’s ignorant. It’s not the *majority of the United States. That’s so careless of you to say 🙄
@@svipulvalke9913what precisely have you seen? living here i’ve hardly seen homophobia but my personal experience doesn’t define reality. despite what i’ve seen or, well, haven’t seen, i know they exist
It may not be the majority but it is a large number, I say that as an American
That is terrible if I saw that I would have gone absolutely FERRAL on that man. No one deserves to be treated like that.
The USA is 9.8 million km² and has a population of roughly 341,782,917.
No one has been to every corner of the states and met every person to know for a fact this would never happen.
There also exists a legal tactic called the gay defence panic, not to mention coversion therapy is still going.
This is horrendous, I hope he knows those gross evil people don't represent Americans as a whole.
I feel so bad for him. People need to stop the hate. I’m so embarrassed because that person was a jerk. You don’t have to support them(lgbtq). I don’t support it but I don’t go out of my way to tear someone down. If you don’t got nothing nice to say then just shut up!! I have friends who apart of that community. They are some of the nicest people. I don’t know why people are so scared of them. They’re just people like you and me they cry, they hurt, they love and they bleed. People need to just relax.
As a Philadelphian, we don’t associate
So sad about this. And you are right, the witnesses who do nothing almost hurt more.😢
I love Johnathan Bailey! This is tragic.
As a Pennsylvanian I am so so sorry.. that does not represent our state or our people. We are the home of the Liberty bell and Quakers and religious tolerance. I'm so so sorry that these acts of hatred happen. ❤
Don't let their ignorance deter you from visiting here!
This made me cry. Jonathan please know that this does not represent all of America. As the mother of an adult gay child my heart is breaking watching this. Sending you love and I can’t apologize enough for this abhorrent behavior you had to endure.
Im from Pennsylvania. Not all Pennsylvanians. That's sad.
🤡
Wow the level of hate that this person is willing to brag about killing other people. God bless that person and I hope that love and kindness prevails
I'm from Pennsylvania. I definitely tell people it can be that kind of place.
Very ignorant people in the comments saying this is fake.
Hate crimes should not be tolerated.
Sorry you had to go through that in my country. People can be idiots.
Breaks my heart
On behalf of the human race, I'm sorry this happened. I'm not American, but sometimes genuinely wonder wtaf is wrong with people.
It's almost as though people can't be kind or educated. The last time i checked on one person has a legitimate clame to a country,
And love is love. It's that simple, just wish those simplest of minds could grasp that concept.
This Pennsylvanian apologizes from the bottom of her heart. There are many of us standing up for human rights here and it does feel like it will be a long, long fight.
This is why Americans are so on edge... we laugh at them but they live on a knifes edge.
Mr. Bailey~Many apologies for that experience. Not all Americans are like that. So sorry that happened to you.
These comments are restoring my faith in humanity
So sorry you had to experience that ❤❤
I shouldn’t have laughed but Pennsylvania is such a normal place. he’s just a hateful evil guy in his own little evil bubble.
Pennsylvania’s pretty big though, nearly the size of england. I would say generally it’s pretty safe, but definitely are sketchy areas with an increased bigot population
I’m so sorry. There are too many hate-filled people in this world.
I am gutted that this happened but grateful for how well JB articulated this horrendous moment and its aftermath.
Ugh... horrifying and terrible but not surprising. I'm so sorry this happened to you, Johnathan.
Oh I am so sorry.
Please accept our sincerest apologies, Jonathan.
I am so sorry this happened to you😢. Crap like this would never happen in the neighborhood I live in. I a.m in NY
It’s rampant here in the US. Even more so since 45 was in office.
Ughhh I am beyond sorry to hear this. I know there are horrible people out there, but I continue to be shocked how nasty the human race can behave toward others. Breaks my heart! 😮💨
This happens in Canada too. Even now.
I’m from PA, didn’t grow up here but kind of always had that view that there is Pittsburgh in the west & Philly in the East. The rest is Alabama 😂
Prejudice is so effecting in every level , love JB he’s a darling
It makes me so sad that we have so many American citizens that are cruel and closed minded . I am sorry you experienced that. Please know you are welcome here and loved.
This is just ridiculous absolutely ridiculous I’m so sorry to u Jonathan Bailey that’s horrible the things u have to go through Ps in the end we are all HUMAN BEINGS ,PEOPLE !!!!!! for crying out loud !!!! Stop judging have some humanity and respect
It's awful as I thought a completely different state. It's worse as I'm not surprised at how awful people can be out of nowhere 😢
That's wild! I'm so sorry. Just the violation of personal space on top of the homophobia is wild! Like where do these people come from and how haven't their bloodlines been eradicated yet?
The experience he had is uncommon. It's also wrong. It's also not indicative of most people's experiences in the United States.
This is so true. Aggression affects everyone.
I am so sad that happened to you 😢
Americans are some of the most sensitive , ignorant, egotistical buffoons on the planet.
Where does that self absorbed attitude come from?.
Oh the irony
individualistic culture
I wish people witnessing this would intervene and make sure the person being attacked is not alone but seen and that people stand up for them! Discrimination is something that concerns us all and we must not look away but actively act against it and make clear that discriminating behavior like this is not being tolerated!!!
That’s just awful! It makes me fear for those I love. 😢
I live in Poland, but I'm Armenian, I heard a lot of mean comments, and often bc of how I look people thought I'm muslim... Even if I were a muslim no one has the right to say bad things to others, it takes nothing to be kind.
I am so sorry you were subjected to such a horrible asshole. No one deserves to be treated like that.
Thank you so much for sharing this harrowing experience. Shame on that guy who attacked you. This is why we need to vote folks. Gotta vote blue. The MAGA idiots perpetuate and encourage this disgusting behavior.
I'm from the UK but this still blew my mind that someone from America would say that. I expected him to say a country where it is actually illegal to be queer.
What a painful and traumatic experience. This person throwing away the human rights cap, says a lot.
Our world needs to change and start acting from an awakened heart, which includes holding stronger together when facing abusive experiences of any kind.
…yes… the US has become inhospitable to many US citizens, too… I’m sorry you had to experience that while you were in this country…
My skin is seen even if i stand still and say nothing.
A women in target took it upon herself to tell me I was possessed and an abomination for being queer.
Though it’s not entirely logical, I haven’t gone back to that Target since…
I’m so sorry this happened to you. Hugs 💜💙🩵💚🩷❤️🧡💛
This is unacceptable and really bad I feel sorry for you Jonny 😢
America has to admit this disgrace. If you are gay, try holding hands in a place like Atlanta? Scary. Very sad situation.
I’m so sorry this happens. To anyone 😢
Why are people so awful? It must be very painful to experience that.
This is awful and having a gay son really hurts my heart. But been British I know most Americans are not like this.
I'll never understand why some straight men are so threatened by gay men. They should just see it as less competition for the ladies lol.
Not American. So sorry this happened.
Big fan ❤
I'm going to be honest and say, this is why I often feel ashamed and embarrassed to be an American. Stuff like this happens all the time cause I've experienced it myself. It makes me angry but also makes me sad.
I'm sorry that happened to you, sir. As an American I find that man's actions deeply embarrassing. I wonder what would happen if the same thing was done to him for wearing a MAGA hat by an American Indian? I'm sure they would love it if we would get out of THEIR country.
That is just horrible. Horrible. I am so sorry.
This should not have happened to you or anyone else for that matter. Love is love end of.. So sorry that you had to experience that.
Esta es una historia bien contada y actuada, que habla de una realidad del día a día.Yo felicito a Showtime por tan excelente serie y a Ti y Matt porque esa actuación trascendió la pantalla 🫶👏❤🇵🇷
Did everyone else just stand there? Did people not recognize him?
Thats nuts and it sounds traumatizing.
How bloody awful and distressing 😢
Holy shit! I live in North Carolina and have never heard my gay friends having issues quite this bad. This is appalling. (Not to the point of death threats…at least not since about 2010 or so. Either that or they haven’t told me about it! They usually do because I used to work in a lawyers office). Usually it’s just rude passing remarks. Not assaults and death treats! Jesus Christ! (Maybe it’s because I’m in the mountains and near Asheville, a very tolerant and more liberal LGBTQ friendly area? However, you can drive about 25 miles in any direction and wind up in some very conservative areas, and even then they still just go about their business 99% of the time. Also, maybe it’s because my best friend is a lesbian and he’s a gay *man* “who talks funny”-so he gets more hate?). That guy should be arrested for a hate crime! This is terrifying. As an American, I believe the man who did this needs to be found and charged with threats and a hate crime. I also encourage Mr. Bailey to make a report. The vast majority of Americans don’t want people like that getting away with this BS-and I grew up in the religious South! Even if they “don’t agree with the lifestyle” and that BS…they don’t want people issuing death threats or being complete assholes! (I hope the guy who said and did this is stupid enough to brag about it on social media now that he is speaking out and can be located!). The Pennsylvania DA (Ans the DA where this happened, needs to investigate this further.) I’d bet money the man was from Western Pennsylvania (mainly the area closest to Wear Virginia)…about 8 thousand (ish) votes in that area was the sole reason Trump was able to win the electoral college in 2016, and they’ve, in general, been the biggest assholes about it since (and biggest assholes in general). I am sickened and so sorry, incredibly saddened, this happened to such a talented human being, in general, on American soil.
I call bullsh1t on that... absolute cobblers.
Yea I live in the south. Nuff said
