    As a marine biologist, this episode really made me happy! I'm indirectly involved, as a consultant, in a project on oyster seeding in Singapore coastal waters. I would love to see more content like this. Thank you Mike for showcasing Dr. Mutt Merritt and his work.

      Interesting job , I think you offer a service that is needed .
      This project on the surface is admirable but I feel the problem needs to be taken care off way upstream from those dumping waste ,
      These poor things can’t handle it by themselves , if you know what I mean !
      I watched our creeks and river’s get destroyed and polluted back in the late 50’s , with at the time pesticides that we later stopped using , once they found out how bad it was to the environment !
      I don’t want to think about the amount of waste that was dumped in the ground before they opened recycling centers in the US !
      I enjoy fishing but what I catch goes back in the water because of what I know .
      You and others like you need to educate and keep fighting for our environment !

    Mobile Bay in Alabama is one of the most biodiverse spots in the nation. I know Dauphin Island research labs have been trying to do this for decades. I wish they could get the funding Chesapeake Bay gets.

    • @crowdsurferx
      @crowdsurferx 4 місяці тому

      Mobile bays' water would probably be a lot cleaner with more oysters too. Everytime I pass that bay it's water is very muddy

    • @kyltredragmire4939
      @kyltredragmire4939 4 місяці тому +3

      @crowdsurferx That's natural. It should be clearer for sure, but never enough to see the bottom. It's an estuary for muddy rivers, after all. Currently, there is so much sediment that the seagrasses can't grow.

    • @ladycavalier
      @ladycavalier 4 місяці тому +1

      Hgffhd I've never seen anyone mention Mobile in a yt comment 😂 surreal. I love Dauphin Island, I got to participate in the sea lab sleepaway camp a couple times as a kid, it was so cool. The people that work there are so passionate. I hope they get the funding they deserve someday!

    The oysters in the Chesapeake Bay have actually been a very big issue for people, all up and down the state's coastline in Virginia and Maryland, for decades. Mike is definitely a land lover though, he doesn't love boat life. You can just tell he feels awkward, LOL. Thanks for being a bigger man and showing this line of work, although it makes you feel awkward because it's a job that is science in action, we call can't be the smartest or the strongest, but we can be the most helpful and educational. You've accomplished that mission. Mike. This is a mission that effects the entire world's delicate ecosystem. It really does need to be protected. Thank you for this job.

    It's really great seeing someone doing something they love and making a difference in this world. It's an awesome job if you can really find them.
    Some feel as though the world is their oyster; others feel as though they were the oyster itself, plucked from the ocean, cracked open, and robbed of all that is precious to them.
