Name the rooster Layne.
Inspiration from Alice In Chains - Rooster (chorus lyrics specifically say “here they come to snuff the Rooster, oh yeah, you know he ain’t gonna die….”) 😅
Fun fact, song was written by Jerry for his father Jerry Sr. Who fought in the Vietnam war.
Fun aside, great content on the compost mate. Appreciate it.
June!!! 🥰 It's about time your co-host came out! She is SO big already! Emily, you're family. Hop on camera. You are easily in the top 5% of homestead honeys. William will tell you haters gonna hate. Let 'em go. The rest of us reliable sensible subs are happy to have you. Welcome. Great spraying!
That rooster is Stanley...or Stan the man 😊
June is the star of this show today! She's beautiful😍 Your explanation of this composting process is very good. Thank you for your patience in teaching us.
Love watching your vlog baby June is scrumptious especially with her pink gardening boots..keep reading His Word the Puritans have some excellent commentaries.❤ Praying for you and your Sweet family❤
LOVE THE 'GOATS SUCK' HOODIE FROM NO-JUNK TX!!! Linc and Olm are smart guys to know the truth about goats as well as hard workers!!
Pasture Raised PIMP great video. I'm not sure if you said what breeds of chickens you are running. Could you please let us know. Also do you have a thermometer to show what temps the piles are at, I think that would be educational for everyone. June is so BIG, can't wait to see you out and about during the festival tours. God Bless from TN.
Sweet June ❤️ She’s the best helper!! We want to see Emily too!!
#Permaculture Q&A Hi William. We have a farm in Costa Rica and we currently have a large 50sq meter chicken house for maybe 250 chickens. Half are meat birds (broilers) and half are egg layers. We have two 27 gal totes that we put food waste in. Inside are black soldier fly larva. At the top of the sides of the tote we have rectangular slots 6 inches long around the top cut out for black soldier fly larva to crawl out of so that the chickens can eat them. In addition, we supplement with store bought feed. The feed is expensive and I am unsure of what exactly is in the feed and where it comes from. In Costa Rica where we are located there are two seasons. 6 months of dry and 6 months of rain. The rainy season starts out slow and then it turns into monsoon. Not sure this system would work? I love the idea of getting the compost and cutting down on the food costs and having the chickens eat healthier. Thoughts?
This is the way.
June is getting so big since I last her at KSL back in October. We suggest the name Chuck for your rooster. Y'all have a good day and God bless!
Need to know exactly where your hay came from and if was sprayed. The wheat or rye stray definitely was. If sprayed with certain chemicals you put that compost on garden it's done other than for sweet corn. But you probably don't know how long things like grazon stays active
You clearly have my attention. This makes it possible for me to have chickens because i do not know how I can find quality chicken feed here in Mexico. You have me thinking.
Wow love the method you have going on..I thank you for sharing with us😁👍🎉..and how about too for your rooster😁😍
Thx William! 😊
I do something similar, but I don’t have as much property as you do and don’t work/flip piles over as frequently.
My guess is that your 2nd week pile will pretty quickly not be a pile anymore. That the chickens will flatten it in no time.
This is the first I’ve heard that the chickens will eat bacteria. How do they see/find the bacteria?
I was thinking the same thing My chickens would have that pile flattened in the first day.
So flip the compost on a rainy day. Got it. Or catch the rainwater and then pour it on over the conpost as i flip it.
Anytime I’ve tried to keep layers in electric netting they just flew over it.. even with clipping..
Interesting system. Thanks for sharing this.
Great info, getting ready to start soon!!
Thanks for the info! I'm curious to know how I would know my chickens would be getting enough food from the flipped pile? Also, how much larger would the pile need to be for 30ish chickens? Lastly, is it okay to use straw/hay that you're unsure if it's been treated with sprays since the pile gets hot enough? Thanks!
P.S. The rooster looks like a Steve, and your daughter is precious!
That hoodie killed me hahaha. Great stuff dude
If the rooster is the red bearded one, I suggest Terry Taylor. He was a pro wrestler that Vince McMahon gave the worst gimmick and named him the Red Rooster. 😂😂
June is so cute 😊
Would you recommend adding the offal(blood, guys, hide) from butchering non chicken livestock (pigs,,cows, rabbits, sucky goats,ECT)to this type of pile like you would in a 18 day ? Or would it cause too many problems to be worth it? (Predators, pain to flip, ECT) If so at what stage would you add it?
Could do an episode of growing mushrooms in a wood chip walking row between your growing beds?
Liking this process, thank you.
Shmoogedee for rooster!
#Permaculture Q&A: Do I need to cover my chicken run for protection from predators? I live in the DFW area. I’m leveling out my backyard, so I will have them in a mobile coupe to move around and purchase a netting fence like yours. I was just curious.
Q&A What is the diameter & height of the compost bin? Correct me on this your not adding any nitrogen plants or material between the the bedding/food scraps & the next carbon layer? Thanks for all the info & things your family does.
Name for Rooster! Chet
#permacultureQ&A Thanks again for your work. Love the videos. I was wondering if there is anything that should not go in the compost. I feed my chickens a fair amount of scraps but have been putting stuff like my spent coffee grounds/nightshade plants in a separate compost pile. I wasn’t sure if they would know not to eat it. I don’t want to poison anyone. Also I’m in New Jersey, will this work in winter? Would compost get hot enough? How many chickens would this system support? Thanks in advance.
#Permaculture Q&A: Hey William, I was wondering if I could get the dimensions of the chicken Tractor. I’m considering building one to hold about 12 birds or more. Could you help me out? Thanks for all you do. Great video!
Your rooster says his name is Ravenwood.
#Permaculture Q&A I left a question on your first chicken tractor video regarding how this would work for ducks
QUESTION - is there any reason TSC pine shavings wouldnt work as bedding?
Thank you and little June is adorable.
How about Biggie Kluk for the rooster. Or even Big Kluk
what do yiu do with the 4th week compost? use it on the veggies garden or other use in the garden?
South East Central Texas here!
What things do you feed them in this system when you top the first compost cage daily?
Just veggie and fruits scraps? Anything else?
Or is it literally all scraps even meat as long as chicken meat is not included?
Starting this system this week. Can’t wait.
I think he adds a bit of layer feed to encourage them to peck through the pile.
@@janew5351true. But also includes basically anything apart from chicken.
@@4evermetalhead79 oh yes with food scraps
William, can you do this program with wood chips or pine straw?
Rooster Cogburn
Are you in Bowie County?
I think your rooster looks like an Eggwardo.
I e got a compressed bale of straw but it has that talc stuff in it to prevent it from blowing away. Is it safe for the chickens and compost for my food gardens?
❤❤❤❤
Hey SGB!
Kicking rooster? Karate Kid or Daniel-son.
