Hey everyone! Thanks for the comments! I just want to mention that I no longer use this unit and I have upgraded to the Mr Cool DIY Mini Split. I made a video showing how I have that system setup.
@@bogieman101 I changed to the mini split to try and achieve the feeling of central AC throughout my entire house and also not have to take out a window unit every year. I did not have any problems with the Midea U shaped for the time that I used it. However I do recommend people to upgrade to split units if they can afford it.
Hi Gabe! I moved from Michigan to Arizona over twenty years ago and just bought the 12k version from Costco ($399) and plan to put it in the master bedroom as a backup (should my central fail) and to supplement the central to keep the room cooler at night so I'm hoping it will do the trick. Hope your mini-split is working great for you and I like your cat too!
I'm not in a position to be able to afford that just yet. Can you please tell me if you needed to have an electrician come in and put in a special outlet to handle the amps the 12,000 midea unit draws?
@@carlyw60 I did not have to do anything. As long as the outlet you're plugging into supports 15 amps (typical in most homes) you should be okay. Just be aware that if there are other devices connected to the same circuit (that also draw high current) it might trip the circuit breaker. I have no issues with mine in the master bedroom or in the front room and ran them in place of the central the last few days (cut my bill in half)...
Thanks for you review,... I bought an 8000 btu one at Home Depot ... Love it. So quiet! I hooked my Watt-Meter to it and it only uses about 300 watts at near full tilt. When it auto lowers to maintain temp, it is around 130 watts... that's like nothing!! Excellent.
Thanks for the read on the Kill A Watt, I put one on my FAU unit in the garage, just the fan running was 400 watts., that does not included the AC compressor outside.
@@Moondoggy1941 These inverter midea or similar units draw variable amount of electricity mostly based on the OUTSIDE temperature. Its weird but it seems to work for most rooms/areas.
I bet you have it in eco mode. if you want it to really pump turn that off it might use closer to 800 watts but you'll only want that on the really hot days.
Another vote for this fantastic a.c. unit! I bought the 8,000 BTU a year ago for my bedroom and it is everything I could want in an a.c. unit - very quiet and very effective. I had been considering a mini split, but when I discovered the Midea, I realized it is a mini split, but in one package! I highly recommend this a.c. unit!
If you want to be able to heat as well they have a heat pump version that is quiet but sadly not the u shape like this one. Maybe they be able to implement that in a couple of years.
I just got a 12,000 unit put in my living room a few days ago... I LOVE it! It is so quiet that I had to mute my computer to see if it was running (it was). It cools quickly and seems to cool all the way into the kitchen where I have a smaller, regular window A/C. That one hasn't run much at all since I have it a degree warmer than the Midea, and it is cooling all the way in there so it is definitely saving me some $$$!
It also helps with security. I always thought it was crazy with my old AC unit someone could just shove it in and get access. As long as you use a brace to keep the window from opening further, this is much more safe than a regular window unit.
I got this same one yesterday. My house is about 1300 square ft. It's amazing. 90 deg today. I have it set to 70 and it stayed at 70. I had to turn it up some cuz I got chilly. Love this!
Can I ask what settings you are using? I have less square feet, with same 12,000 BTU unit, but the cooling is not that impressive. I am using "Auto" mode, also in "ECO". I have the A/C set at 61*, but temp gun shows 74* actual temp in the room, and it's a cloudy day, only 78* outside. Very disappointed at cooling so far. Thanks.................

When you said at 6:45 that you weren’t sure how hot it was in your house before u turned it on… in fact, you can know!! :) the phone app tells u the temperature of the room it’s in! I looove this unit
I will say this if you have a window that’s 22 inches which is the minimum sized window you can install these in. It’s going to be a really tight fit. Getting the bracket installed was a bit of a hassle but doable. I had a vinyl raised lip window and again the unit will be a tight squeeze through the window. Issues I had was getting the bracket brace attachment on you’ll need a stubby screwdriver to get the screws off and back on. The tip over bar was difficult to get screwed down I feel they need to add additional tie downs. Also be extremely careful and wear gloves you can easily slice a finger open on the condenser fins as well as bend them.
I bought a 12000 btu model this year. Very pleased with it. Very quiet in operation but you have to be sure and tilt it a little, so the water drains out.
I believe the open floor plan of your home is probably helping the unit cool the entire first floor. I feel mine could do that but my house is so partitioned off the living room where its installed gets the best of it. I have a second option but i dont really want to move it lol
Totally agree with this review. The unit is awesome. My unit is right next to my bed and I have no noise at all to effect my sleep. This unit is not even as loud as a floor fan. It took about 25 minutes to pop it into my window. Wow what a incredible designed unit. Midea is a very large company with world wide sales thus the quality is excellent.
Got one a month ago. So quiet and efficient. Only thing bad is my remote only turns unit off and on. Many Amazon reviewers said same. Not an issue for me. Hooked it into Alexa and sets temp changes for day and night.
Really? Remote control only turn it on and off? I just got my 8000 btu installed yesterday. The remote control has all the function as the remote control from the regular window AC. I am not a big fan of WIFI or Alexa control. I didn’t hook it up WIFI. I just use the remote control as usual as like traditional window AC. I don’t find any function missing in my control. I can control temperature with remote control. The only issue is it has loud beep sound.

But noticed debris from birds nesting in the nearby internet installer boxes. Nice to hear their little tweets. Maybe can use a square of door screening to prevent that coming across my unit.
I just put in a couple of them in my place - 120y/o house in Chicago. While we haven't had any 'real' summer weather here yet, it has been pretty humid lately, and this old house (TM PBS) needs more/better insulation, etc. As a long time midwesterner, I can tell you it IS the humidity (actually, it's the wet-bulb temp. but damned if imma try ta 'splain that). Anyway, I'm pretty impressed with this so far. I'm researching mini-split systems as I have forced air and by Feb. every year I'm ready to bash my skull in from the sound. Sorry, different topic.
I just received the 12,000 u shaped Midea ac also. It was a pain to install the bracket because I placed it in my living room where I have a double pane window. Despite the slope recommendations it states it remained slightly slanted from the side inwards as opposed to outward. I’ll have to adjust it. It does cool very well and fast nd is remarkably quiet. I watched House of dragons on my regular volume settings on my oled sound bar.
I have been looking at these, with having to install at least 3 window A/C units each year. Either these or the saddle type that sit down below the window frame.
It looks like a non U shaped version with heat pump came out within the past month or so. MAW12HV1CWT is the model. That units heat pump is only advertised as working down to 40 degrees. But that's good enough for most of the southern half of the USA.
I just bought this unit from Costco. They marked them down to $310 and my local entergy company was giving $50 rebates for buying an approved energy star window unit
What I've noticed about the room air conditioners is they don't make them like they used to. Before you could take the top off and clean the grids and do a thorough cleaning on the air conditioner. Now you can't get to anything to clean it
Great review. I like the idea that is quiet. Can you tell me if the unit is loud from the outside? I live in a neighborhood where are homes are very close to each other. I appreciate your input. Thank you 🙏
The only time my central AC can get the temps down to 70 degrees is in the winter, my 3 1/2 ton unit single story 1300 sq ft can only get it down to 75 if it is over 105 degrees outside.

A good review, i do ask though, everyone talks about how quiet these units are, on "LOW FAN" but what about when you have the unit on full Blast? The variable speed compressor will be at full speed when it's set to 60. It would be cool to hear what this thing sounds like at full Tilt
It is still quieter than any unit you will find in full blast. Once it starts running at full speed you’ll hear a faint hum but it’s not that bad. I think my refrigerator is louder.
I bought the same one after watching your review and decided to put it in the living room. It is cooling my 1st floor too, about 1000 sq feet. My only complaint is the plastic housing makes a vibrating noise. Have you experienced this too?
I installed the 12000 btu, and I'm not impressed by its cooling. The unit I removed was so old that it has R22 freon, and it cooled the space better even if it has a much lower capacity
The new stuff cannot be compared to the old r22. We cant have that dangerous stuff in our a/c or fridge but we can burn down a whole forest every summer.
How has it held up a couple years later?? Fellow Monroe resident here as well, been hot the past few weeks here! Considering getting the same unit for our new-to-us house
I’m so glad I found this video. You have the same type of windows I do with the outer storm windows. Did you do anything differently with the installation? Also do you have any issues with water pooling up inside the window sill when it rains?
Might be a little janky but you could always packing tape along the bottom edge of the window to protect the Sill. It might not even be an issue if it's in a window that isnt facing against the direction of prevailing winds.
I do not have issues with water pooling in the window sill. However my house has a pretty large overhang of the roof that blocks rain. I installed the unit based on what seemed practical for the window.
@@gabrielpage860 Hey man thanks for the comment back. Yeah I’m not concerned about the water running off the roof. I have a proper gutter system to catch that. I was actually thinking of rain water that could get in due to high winds from a storm. Anyway, I got it installed without issue. Just needed a couple of 2x2 glued and stapled together to mount the bracket so it would sit high enough to bypass the lip of the storm window. Rest of the install was a breeze.
@@musicmaker85You just solved my question too lol. We have the same windows with the 60’s or 70’s style 2/3” storm window lip and I just ordered the 12000 btu model and wondered how the bracket would fit. Now I can make the support before it gets here! Thanks!
Due to the fact that you could practically close your window all the way there’s really no need to have to take it out for winter every year which is something I wouldn’t do doesn’t hurt to keep it in the window
Need advice before buying online. Could I install it in an 20 inch window (door) frame? They say 22-36" But seems like the AC is less then 20" large. So I wonder if it would be possible. Thx for your help!
I wish you would have walked outside and showed us the unit from outside. Do you have to support the condenser part from the ground with it hanging so far from the house?
I just bought this ac, 12000 btu, and you seem to have the same window as me, but I don't see how I can install it so that the ac is on the bracket properly (all the way to the back). I don't want to have to return it. Do you have any tips?

How big of a space and what part of the country? Old/new construction? 61F is unreasonable for most residential AC units to maintain, and if you are in an older leaky house with a lot of infiltration could be an issue as well as window units aren’t suited to handle latent heat. 12MBH is good for probably 500 Sqft unless you have better than code min insulation.

Just ordered one. Hope I’m as psyched as you are . Thanks for the vid!
I have been looking at these, with having to install at least 3 window A/C units each year. Either these or the saddle type that sit down below the window frame.
I actually like your review. I'm buying one now. Good day to you man
The gap is the same issue with vinyl windows, just bought the 8000 btu and used it one time so far, cooled down the room within minutes.
After using that one again and the other 12000 btu units my conclusion is they're not very good. My older less efficient units did a better job
Awesome video the best so far you should do another video Ac after 1 year
Thanks! I upgraded to Mr Cool DIY mini split. Made a video on that a few days ago
Well done! Clear and to the point.
Bro, i like to keep my living room around 65,66.. I’m a little nervous with the 74 review. But very intrigued. 👍
You have the exact same old windows as I have. This was immensely helpful.
Excellent review. If you were closer I'd buy your window. I wouldn't replace them: they are original.
If they would make this a heat pump it would be amazing . Cool only is nice but not sufficient.
It looks like a non U shaped version with heat pump came out within the past month or so.
MAW12HV1CWT is the model. That units heat pump is only advertised as working down to 40 degrees. But that's good enough for most of the southern half of the USA.
Thank you for the helpful information. Please advise if it takes air from outside in a room or recycles air in a room.
Now you can't get to anything to clean it
I have this unit and took the whole thing apart myself without breaking a single thing. Doesnt seem so difficult to me
Great review. I like the idea that is quiet. Can you tell me if the unit is loud from the outside? I live in a neighborhood where are homes are very close to each other. I appreciate your input. Thank you 🙏
Proud Dad, new baby Chinese stuff. Enjoy, make memories.
The only time my central AC can get the temps down to 70 degrees is in the winter, my 3 1/2 ton unit single story 1300 sq ft can only get it down to 75 if it is over 105 degrees outside.
Thank you so much.
That’s price is good deal.
Hey believe it or not as you're talking about the air conditioner I'm feeling cool already I live in Brooklyn it's very very warm I didn't hook up my air conditioner but I'm thinking of getting one of those thanks for the video enjoy looking at your house you got a great looking place enjoy the summer and what the hell Great great great air conditioner take care great video too😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
A good review, i do ask though, everyone talks about how quiet these units are, on "LOW FAN" but what about when you have the unit on full Blast? The variable speed compressor will be at full speed when it's set to 60. It would be cool to hear what this thing sounds like at full Tilt
It is still quieter than any unit you will find in full blast. Once it starts running at full speed you’ll hear a faint hum but it’s not that bad. I think my refrigerator is louder.
More fan noise is all I get on my end. It's still very quiet.
R22 is just a more efficient refrigerant period. It's one of the many reasons the older units cool so much better. But God forbid we have nice things.
I bought 5 units, 8000 btu from home depot for $1890.
Much better than replacing central for $8000
Thanks for taking tge time
Costco has them in warehouse for $319 until 6/18/23!
is the 12,000 Btu unit for the 319. or is the lower one like the 10,000 btu
Screw that id turn it down to 40 let it be the Antarctica in my house lol
Sam's has this unit (12,000 BTU) for $399.
Where???
Sam's does not have U shaped Midea AC units.
@@bigallis1 They did but sold out quickly.
Costco 399 for u-shaped 12k btu.
@@dennisdinneny4260 That's $100 less than what Home Depot charges for them.
I have a 8,000 BTU unit had a year-and-a-half and got a cool 7
Excellent video review thanks, can you please tell me the measurements? I have small windows on my camper
Need advice before buying online.
Could I install it in an 20 inch window (door) frame?
They say 22-36"
But seems like the AC is less then 20" large.
So I wonder if it would be possible.
Thx for your help!
Michigan gets cold right.... did u leave the unit in the window over the winter?
Will this thing keep a 2 car garage cool in the Florida summer
Hi,
Very grateful for you. Do you know if I can use this with a horizontal sliding windows?
I wish you would have walked outside and showed us the unit from outside. Do you have to support the condenser part from the ground with it hanging so far from the house?
That cat was probably saying "I hope my dad gets off soon and cranks this AC up I'm roasting in here" haha
😂
Luckily we have a basement that is very cool in the summer so they hangout down there
Very well done sir.
Wish the inside part didn't stick out so much, would be a problem where I need an a/c.
Above the bed/couch?
Question is do they last just as long as the regular style. I love it though
Thanks so much for the information
Nice review man
I just bought this ac, 12000 btu, and you seem to have the same window as me, but I don't see how I can install it so that the ac is on the bracket properly (all the way to the back). I don't want to have to return it. Do you have any tips?
My unit is not all the way on the back of the bracket. It runs just fine as it is.
@@gabrielpage860 thanks for the reply. I watched your video again as well a couple others and realized it doesn't sit all the way back in the bracket. I have had mine running for the past week and no issues and it is keeping my whole main floor cool. Thanks for the video and reply.
Just installed this 12K BTU unit earlier today. Not impressed with cooling so far. I'm using "Auto" mode, also in "ECO". I have the A/C set at 61*, but temp gun shows 74* actual temp in the room, and it's a cloudy day, only 78* outside. Very disappointed at cooling so far. Thanks for any suggestions.................
Use the dry setting option
@@Randazler - many thanks! I will try this.
How does this serve as a cat-perch? because mine will try it out immediately, it looks sturdy enough.
What about the vent on the outside of the ac? Bugs or rain can get in it over the summer? Do you cover it up with a screen?
Do you have vinyl siding wondering if it will crack the siding ?
How come my filter won’t go back in? I feel stupid but it’s not working for me and I have this aircoditione
The screen filter should slide in and out of the front compartment with relative ease
Nice house!
I would like to know the power bill. My AC unit went out a few days ago and I have been thinking about getting one of these.
Great, now if they will make one for slider windows.
Thanks so much for this review. Have an estimate on your square footage on this floor? Does it seem to come the closets, cabinets, and other closed off spaces? Looking to hit a 1,000 SF apartment with this.
My house is 950 Sq feet and with a fan oscillating it cools it pretty nice,, I had my oven on 450 2 hours and outside was 84 and my house was 72 with the 5 o'clock afternoon sun beating my picture window which gets hot. One in an insulated apartment will do decsent
@@nimrodpaul6875 Bless you for this anecdote haha! Makes me super glad about my purchase. Just got my midea 12000 today and I'm gonna install tomorrow and use fans to circulate to cool to the rest of the unit.
Can I put this on a second floor apartment or do I need to be outside as well when installing? Seems like the stand may be iffy unless you go outside and mess around with it.
You don't have to go outside at all. I did the install by myself from the inside.
cool, like it, well designed😀
Does anyone have any recommendations as how to keep cats from jumping up on this and manually closing the vents at night?😪
😅 lol! Too funny! Hmmm, maybe just cage off the AC box somehow? Of course your cats think this thing is novel and a good window perch, lol.
What’s preventing someone from stealing it?
Hello, i am looking into this unit but live on the second floor with someone else underneath... Does this happen drip water like a mini split outside??? Thank you
Can you link to the suction cup cat perches? I'm terrified of buying one and having the suction cup fall off while one of my cats is laying on it!
This is the one I have and it works great

Why does my window AC sound like running water ? Midea tech mounted the unit !
Do you think I can use it for a sliding window? 🤷♀️
Thank you Sir
what's the measurement of the outside condenser?
Did I get unlucky? It’s been a week and my 8000btu (rated for 400sf) is leaking 1 gallon of water every day and my 300sf living room and hall stays at 79-80F even though I have it set to 72F even running for 9 hours
