But what if I have a 4k monitor that I am using in 1440p and I use DRS/DL to render at some super high resolution that is like 4 times 1440p and THEN play at that 5120x2880 resolution on the 4k monitor --- will that offset the issues you are bringing up?

    Back in late summer 2020, I got an Asus VP28UQG 4k monitor paired with a Geforce RTX 2070. My plan with this setup was to watch movies in 4k; and game in 2k at 60 hz. Early on, 2k didn't look the best with the way the display scaled in Windows, but during the 4th quarter of 2021, Nvidia released drivers that improved scaling. With GPU Scaling on present Nvidia drivers, 1440p now looks quite good on this monitor.

      On 1080p you have less pixels and you can see that picture is not that sharp but if you run a game on 4K monitor using 1080p resolution, you will not see pixels, you will just get blurry image, much much worse than playing 1080p game on 1080p monitor.

    I want a bigger monitor, lik 32-40 inches, but i don't want to see pixels, but i will not game much on 4k ever, maybe some games, Factorio seems fun, but shooters etc, not so much.
    1440p is fine, i just want a higher refresh rate then.
    But yeah, going 1440p on 4K, i am expecting it to get less clean and blurry, and i don't want that at all.
    All in i would even rather go for mid 30 inches 1440p with high refresh rate than a bigger 4K with slower refresh rate that will not run 1440p as nice, and 4k resolution will be far too heavy for the games i will do or mostly on the hardware i will run it on, since i am not going to buy a ridiculous setup, i just want a big screen. 1080p is out of the question since that means visible pixels eveywhere.

    Are we talking about setting Windows to 1440 on a 4K monitor? Back in 2017 I tried to upgrade from a 24” 1080p to a 27” 4K. I played Witcher 3 and the 1080p looked HORRIBLE. It was blurry with terrible black levels. I changed the in-game settings to 4K and it looked amazing but the fps was like 20. I changed the game to 1440p and it looked almost as good as the 4K with a much better fps. I ended up returning the 4k monitor for a 1440p with gsync, but I miss the smoothness that 4K pixel density, even with the game set to 1440p. Windows and my GPU were all set to 4K, I only changed the resolution in the game.

    • @MeelisKalme
      @MeelisKalme Рік тому

      Even if there would, it would not help you, because the point of this is basically that 1 GPU output pixel is shown by using 4 pixels on 4K screen. If you would have resolution that had 2 times less pixels than 4K it would still mean it would have to split the pixels so in this regard video maybe could be more specific - it does not matter if after doing the dividing you get even number, what really matters is that the answer has to be 4. If it is then there is no pixel splitting, if no - bad news and picture will be blurry. And the next level of going lower to a resolution that would not split pixels would be 960x540 - 518 400 pixels - now 16 (so 4x4) times less pixels on screen than 4K.

      Yep! But if you're gaming it just won't run very well in 4K at all, the minimum graphics card for 60+ FPS in most games at 4K would be an Nvidia RTX 2060 Super / RTX 3060, below that you're going to struggle on some AAA games.
      If you want to play Valorant, CSGO, Minecraft etc then the RTX 3060 will actually get you well over 100 FPS easy, but something like Read Dead 2 in 4K just isn't running at even 60 FPS on those graphics cards.
      In short, it completely depends what you're using the PC for, if it's just browsing then most computers, even with integrated graphics, will run 4K on UA-cam etc completely fine - it's when you're gaming that you need to consider a better graphics card 😄
