Must remember he has years of experience and I'm sure he put a lot into finding the correct way of playing the bass. These basics are extremely important... listen to them!😊😊🤔
I wonder if someone can help me. I can slap the 4th and 3rd strings open but once i try to play the 5th fret or higher on the 3rd string it just makes a boop sound. How can i fix this???
I'm loving those DR pure blues bass strings. They have the stainless mid brightness and vocal tone with all the full round tone and zing of a nickel string with that dr round core
I believe the best way to get started when it's your first time attempting slap is to utilize the same method of opening a door knob with your forearm relatively parallel to the bass strings and using the thumb near the knuckle like a mallet striking a piano string would, immediately moving away from the string after striking it...no need to strike hard, just accurately, which comes with time. A good set up definitely helps, too. Great point about simply cranking up the treble knob is not the key to great slap tone, Daric and that intro was doooope! I like the new paint choice, too!
There is merit to the “light touch” technique (in slap and fingerstyle) - turn turn your amp up way too loud and play gently and precisely. Dynamics are under-appreciated!
New here, and new to the nation. Been trynna get that raspy metallic ringing outta my bass string like that. Oh look, a video on something else that completely solves my problem, hahaha
Your presentations are great. A solid focus on the core elements of slap. Your videos inspire me to practice more and think through it! It’s great to hear you getting some menacing zing out of those pickups. fwiw the MusicMan flavour of funk/new age is getting boring for me. Wild with the busy thumbing! The more i practice double thumbing the more i let loose with hyper downstrokes and freaking love it. Cool name bro 😎
Bad technique 😖 That’s me right there!! One of my problems right hand fatigue ..my slap only last about 20 min or so them I’m out of power, and out of sound.. can you help?? Cliff
I don't know if back to new, but definitely you will bring most of the brightness back. Explanation? You will get rid of all the grease and grime that naturally sticks to your strings and changes the tone. You can try it, it won't hurt...
It might be the action that needs to be adjusted. Sometimes when the strings are too close to the pick ups it can create a clicking sound. Try adjusting that and see if it helps
Chalkboard scratch has no affect on my nerves but if you run your nails perpendicular to the surface of a dry paper towel, I will have my neck muscles twitch and my hands go numb for a second.
When I see and listen to great bass players like you immediately it comes to my mind the incredible band called CHANGE they wrote some of the best disco-funk songs of all times and their bassist was out of this world!
I have to disagree, that string freshness is so key (pun unintended). Getting fresh strings just delays the process. Start slapping first and all the other stuff will come. The guys I hear slapping with dead strings and not-so-great IQ is scary. Play first! Other stuff is bonus!
Pour jacter, ça va... Qu'il se mette à la trompette, par exemple ; il ne pourra pas parler. Pour la basse, le "slap" ou ce que tu veux, t'as encore du boulot. Alors joue, et parle moins. Ah ah...

Good video. One thing more, I believe, the setup of the base. I find it difficult to get sufficiently low action without excessive string buzz.

Man, you play so well that even with a mess nobs you sound sooooo cooool.
Right😭
Great video! The thumb technique, parallel to the strings was HUGE!
Love that GK cab very nice.
Good teacher on aspects of playing and music and nice playing as well
Great presentation Daric, cheers!
Knowing what to do with the eq, good information and I make sure I'll take that advice.
Ty! What gauge strings do you use? Have you ever boiled dirty strings?😂. Used to do that back in the day. Actually gets some more life out of em.
Me, a p-bass style owner: FULL VOLUME, FULL TONE
Probably half way tone is better for that if you got round wounds and you constantly change em or boil em.
Yes, it’s a design feature not a bug. Pbasses… *rolls eyes*
try slapping with some old flatwounds on it too
my bass dont even produce any sound when I slap the strings. should I slap the bass guitar instead??
Bruh😂😂😂
Slap yourself
Buy a sr506
Totally worth it
Slap without effort

You probably have high string action that your string can't hit the fret to create slap sound

This is very, very good Daric, nice Bass wishes to you..
Your sound & technique are awsumm!! Would love to sound like that..
You are a wonderful person. Thank you for this beautiful video, your brother from Iraq 🙏🏻🌹
Wooooooooooooow man, your slap sound is amaaaaaazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your presentations are great.

WHEN YOUR SLAP SOUNDS LIKE CRAP! Why the heck was that so dang funny that I was still laughing half-way through video? 5 star video
😂🤘🏾

How about a lower action?
I get a much better slap tone with a decently low action (not extremely low either or it starts to fart)
Great lesson sir
is there any more lessons coming regarding the the slap series
Absolutely
Great brilliant sir thank you sir looking forward to them sir
How to have good slap sound....
Be Daric Bennett.
Watching this weeks entry and this popped on right after. Copyright Slap like Crap, still hilarious after two weeks
Hey so is it true that you could boil your strings to get them back to New?
I don't know if back to new, but definitely you will bring most of the brightness back. Explanation? You will get rid of all the grease and grime that naturally sticks to your strings and changes the tone.
You can try it, it won't hurt...
The stingray has the best slap tone
Thank you
With new strings, is this bass reach his limited? If you go check the Johnny long video, you will see what’s the good slap tone!
This is a humble request from my side. Plz teach me how to play Barbary coast
Plz teach us how to play Barbary coast by Jaco
It’s a decent bass!!! 😂 nice way to word it!!!
Does anyone know why i have a very loud click when i slap my bass? I bought new strings, but that did not fix it.
It might be the action that needs to be adjusted. Sometimes when the strings are too close to the pick ups it can create a clicking sound. Try adjusting that and see if it helps
thank you!
So you're using a compression pedal or effect here, aren't you? I think that would be a key to a great slap tone that I didn't hear you mention here
Nice beautiful slap tone
👍great info.
Did anyone else get goosebumps on the chalkboard scratch scene even though there wasnt any sound? Lol
Chalkboard scratch has no affect on my nerves but if you run your nails perpendicular to the surface of a dry paper towel, I will have my neck muscles twitch and my hands go numb for a second.
Kristopher De Tar same but I get goosebumps from seatbelts
gracias!!!
Step 1 have. Good bass, don’t eq it, and 2. have good technique. Got
It
Not necessarily. “good bass” does NOT equal good tone. Each bass is different.
😊
Why r ppl using the cx cabs more than the neo???? As far as eq what if u have a pbass?🤷🏽♂️
That is GK not CX ..
@@-_JeremiaSigalingging yes ik a gk cx cab. Cx is the model
2:46 Mark King tone impersonation
What bass is that Daric?
Elrick basses
A beast when it comes to tone! Elrick, Sadowsky, and Mike Lull are my fave 3. What's yours?
My attempts at slapping yield Just dead notes with some harmonics maybe
I like to scoop my eq.
Your worst slap tone is better than my best bass playing!
4. Bass setup
I get this harmonic hum when I slap and it kills me.
👍🏾
Please translete indonesia😘
I like this Cat 🌈
Daric blessings to you your amazing great teacher
Another pointer is to record yourself! Thought I sounded good but really I sound like an epileptic have a seizure on my bass 🗑
I know it doesn't sound good, but I love playing that terrible tone. It tends to make me attentive to when I'm getting a little too "wild" 🤣
When I see and listen to great bass players like you immediately it comes to my mind the incredible band called CHANGE they wrote some of the best disco-funk songs of all times and their bassist was out of this world!
Sheriff of Funk, King of Groove, Earl of Groove, Funk of Nottingham, Deputy Minister of Groove, Prime Minister of Funk? Who are you really?
nickle plated elixir strings.
Mid 70s Jazz bass
I'm getting Seinfeld vibes, hahaha.

Me never slap because i play in bands where i dont need to slap

That terrible slap tone almost made me turn the video off
Me with a bass with 2 knobs ._.
slapping is old.....its not true bass playing
Thank you
