I don't know about you but The Expanse makes the most intense space battle ever, no massive squadrons or fancy flying like Star Wars or Battlestar Galactica, just a few ships in the dark, hanging to the limited firepower they have, when every round counts, you have to fight with your whiz.
The expanse's battles are rooted in reality. Flight mechanics don't work in space as they do in atmosphere, so battles tend to be linear in nature. Move towards enemy, merge, move away, typically on a single vector, dog fighting isn't feasible.

One thing this series has taught me is that people need to be paying more attention to freighters and not dismiss them so readily LOL 😂 Guy Molinari covering for Roci's assault on Thoth Station, the Edward Israel launching weaponized shuttles in orbit of a giant fusion reactor planet, the Pella disguised as a freighter and taking out most of a Belter flotilla, the Giambatista dropping a few tons of whoopass + the rest of her squad on the ring station... nobody watches the freighters closely enough! And in the end they handed over the keys to known space to a bunch of freighter captains, what could go wrong? 🤣
Roci disguised as a freighter itself on the way to search for Lionel Polanski, Weeping Somnambulist being used to covertly infiltrate Ganymede, Zymea attacking Tycho, and Chyezemoka bring converted into a proximity mine
There are just probably too many freighters to be suspicious of every single one of them ? And in the case of Giambattista, looks like it didn't matter that the freighter was clearly suspicious (bad time, coming in too fast ?), because the ring access was clear, and the ringspace railguns don't seem to be able to target and/or hit ships coming into the rings from outside ?
Tiny mistake at 1:00 - the Giambattista and Roci aren't "slowly" moving towards the gate, they are burning like crazy. That's how they get there before Marco.
@@Konsumkruemelmonster Because in the book Marco was allready in Medina safe behind the railguns.. they provoque him (Michio/Drummer's speach against him) to come out by doing a simultaneous attack in the entire solar system against all free navy strongholds so when he is out of the ring space fighting the coalition the Gianbatista sneaks past him.. in the TV show he is retreating into the ring and their plan is to take Medina and the railguns before he gets there.. for wich they launch the total attack but only to slow down him and distract him (and hopefully take him out while at it). the TV version makes less sense for that
The so called ground assault team infiltration was amazing and crazy, its not just the rail gun rounds you have to worry about. As seen during Amos long entry on his booster seat to the station, its was a shitstorm. There was so much debris an other stuff that you could most likely be killed by a directional container or a plate door hitting and its game over.
It was also a little contrived too :/ like literally Holden explains this plan of his whilst he, his crew and ship are with the UNN fleet. So in essence there's literally no cocievable reason why he couldn't have set off with 50+ of their best marines in full powered armour >_> aside from budget and character interactions of course.
I'm just hoping that in 15 or 20 years, when the actors are as old as their characters in the final book, they'll get together with even better film tech to bring us even more jaw-dropping scenes than we've seen as yet.
In 10 years, you can prompt your locally installed AGI to generate prequels or sequels to your favorite movie or tv show, and they'd be unique every time. And you'd have the choice to watch it in 2D, 3D, VR or via neuralink direct signal injection in the brain.

That new armor is quite impressive, and weird that the MCRN strike team didnt have it on their ships. The Roci could take a direct impact of a railgun round and only have mild damage, while the MCRN strike team all got taken out in one shot. Though the Roci was only hit in the back, and the strike team was hit head on, so could just be that.
I believe it was an oblique impact rather than a direct impact, or simply, it was a graze rather than a direct hit. With the energy involved, even a graze with the older armour would have been catastrophic.
1-The strike force were not evading and driving in a straight line. Roci was doing the crazy wiggly-jiggly. 2-Shot bounced at an angle. No small ship armor would withstand a direct hit like that from a big rail gun. 3-The armor appeared to be relatively new and was supplied by UNN. MCRN strike was unilateral and not supported by Avasarala.
MCRN were stone broke by that point, they were decomissioning, not building, ships. It took all their time and effort to get one Donnager class back to battle worthiness. UNN were struggling too, however they did managed to put protomolecule armour on the newest Nathan Hale class battleships, over the weapons and engines - these ships were high tech but significantly smaller than the Donnager and Truman class battleships. Roci on the other hand, by that point was the darling of the UNN, MCRN, *AND* Belters, and even though the factions were at peace with each other, they all wanted Holden and his ship to side with them, so at that point they would give them all they had - no civilian ship other than the Roci was ever issued light railguns, Goliath power armour suits, naval-grade torpedoes, or anything like that - and a little Corvette frigate would be an ideal testbed for them to put protomolecule armour on.....
A beautiful landing! One of the few shows that has never once let me down. I do wish we'd gotten one or two shots of the main battle fleet in action, but I get why it narratively probably wouldn't make a lot of sense. That drifting burn was probably the most beautiful physics displays in the whole show... really hard to believe it's over.
its because of the budget cuts the expanse team had to work with. they made what they could with the money they had. thats why when we see the unn fleet we only see 1 or 2 battleships and some drive plumes in te distance.
I'm hoping they are secretly writing a season 6.5 as a filler between 6 and book 7. Expand on laconia some more, and see what becomes of Philip and if he ever reunites with Naomi. Also, Clarissa's arc could be expanded a lot, certainly with the deadline she has now. Best redemption arc i've ever seen.
@@simulacrae Well, while I doubt that there is anything that's on the way that'll fill the gap between 6 and 7 in the way that was said above, they're already is a prequel in the works via the Telltale game, and what was being said is technically not out of the question. The difference between GoT and The Expanse is, the writing duo of James S.A. Corey (Ty and Daniel) were very involved in the production of the TV series and the TV show never overran the books. Game of Thrones mainly derailed because the showrunners had nothing to adapt and there was far less input in the show from George RR Martin. If The Expanse was to showcase a story set in between the time jump between 6 and 7, filling in the blanks is less of a problem than having to make things up as you go along, because at least you are connecting the dots and have boundaries. If there's anyone that could do it effectively, Ty and Daniel could certainly pull it off for sure. But I think that there's a concerted effort into figuring out which medium they're going to use for the final 3 books, if they haven't already figured that out yet. As stated before, there's already a Telltale game on the way, so it's pretty obvious that they're dipping their toes in the water and seeing how it is to work with game developers and so forth. But on another front, I'm of the opinion that they might look to animation to adapt the final three books. Animation certainly isn't cheap by any stretch of the imagination, but it does allow you certain freedoms when it comes to scope and scale, at least compared to live action and while there are certainly challenges when dealing with animated projects, imagine being able to see certain scenes that you weren't able to before because of budgetary restrictions. Imagine having more sequences not unlike CQB from S1E4, more space battles and more ability to truly customize environments to even more incredible degrees. Imagine being able to see something like the ending of S5 with the Battle at the Ring Gates between the MCRN/UN Joint Fleet, and seeing battles like that brought to life. If there's anything that I can criticize with the show, it's simply the limitations that come with needing to shoot on sets with real cameras and extensive green screen setups. They did a fantastic job with what they had and all of the challenges that they had to overcome, what with COVID protocols as well as budget issues, but animation could potentially solve some of those issues in the future potentially.
@@Brswing That was more input than I asked for but interesting nonetheless :) I think the Expanse Universe would make a way better Metaverse than what facebook is planning. To me the use of the Giambattista runs parallel to how the Guy Molinari was employed in masking the approach of the Roci during the battle of Thoth Station.
It's worth bearing in mind that the vast majority of armed Belter ships (Free Navy, Pirates, Major OPA factions included) don't actually have PDCs. It's one of the reasons the Tynan is fairly unique in that it has 2x state of the art Martian PDCs "best guns in the Belt" we're told. Most Belter vessels carry torpedoes (and missiles which are cruder/slower/less advanced), PDCs are very rare outside the military.
it was a very good finale, i was worried 6 episodes wasnt enough and that they were rushing it, but they did it great, i am wondering about some of the open plot lines like filip and laconia though.
I’d prefer a few more seasons over a few movies. Show like this need time to sell the whole story of an arc. Season 6 wasn’t the best purely because it felt too rushed compared to the others
from where came those jump-jet troopers of Free Navy that started to shoot at Bobbie-Amos Team from above? I don't see/hear that, that was mentioned here.
3:48 The Giambattista doesn't "cut thrust"; if you have thrust, you accelerate. Instead it's cutting its braking burn, so it doesn't decelerate further.

I liked it but is Bobby the only person with power armor now, most of assault team are in martian uniforms so Mars looks to be providing the manpower, couldn't they spare a squad of recon marines. Would have made it a hell of a lot easier as even the armor piercing rounds looked to be unable to get through power armor.
@@nulnoh219 I think it's 3 teams on same railgun just different approaches. Also what would they be saving armor for, ceres is taken over by drummer belters so no other ground engagements they would need armor for.
my thought was they're using what suits they can find on the Roci, so naturally they'd all have normal Martian armor since Bobby brought her own suit to the battle
It makes me sad that GOT had basically unlimited money thrown at it to be finished in a satisfying way, yet we got the biggest flop in TV history w S8. Here the producers had so much more to say with passion and skill, yet they had to cut the season in half.
'no one mentioned' LOL. There are 30 members of the breaching team. Bobbie and Amos are two. EVERY ONE of the other 28 is a sci-fi reference - you didnt even get all the Aliens ones, apart from William Hudson and Dwayne Hicks, there is also Ellen Ripley and Jeanette Vasquez......
I can't be the only one to notice the juxtaposition of Naomi on top of Clarissa with her not far from apparent death -- opposite in both positioning and intention to their original encounter. Nice touch.
It is surprising that combined torpedo salvo of Drummer fleet fails to even hit one FreeNavy frigate, and many of the torpedos completely missed the target. Then Pella and the frigate ripped through the entire Drummer fleet in seconds.

@@JJ-eg4zm the one drummer shot at one of her allies during the battle with the koto and the heavy frigate (forgot the name) hits, but still, belter torpedos suck
I don't quite understand what happened in the first part of the battle. What happened to the heavy frigate? Did Drummer's group destroy it? And what did the UNN group do? Did they correctly identify the 'freighter' as the Pella and hit it? Why didn't the UNN help Drummer's group and the Roci by chasing down the Pella after that? I assume they were too far back or busy dealing with other Free Navy groups off screen? Also, did Bobby shut down all railguns at the same time, or just that one which was the only one able to hit the Roci?
The heavy frigate defeated all Drummer's torps with its PDCs and defensive torpedoes. Drummer only had cheap Belter torpedoes which were easy for Martian PDCs to kill. The heavy frigate was the ship that kamizaki'd the Belter ship that was trying to kamikazi the Pella, destroying both ships and damaging the Pella with frag. There were 3 Free Navy battlegroups - one engaging the Martians, one engaging the UNN, and one engaging the Belters. These fleets were millions of miles away from each other, so could never 'help out'. The ring gate and Roci were again several million miles away from any of the battles. Bobby torched the reactor that powered all the railguns on the station.

There are just probably too many freighters to be suspicious of every single one of them ? The so called ground assault team infiltration was amazing and crazy, its not just the rail gun rounds you have to worry about. It's like the D-Day depicted in Saving Private Ryan except with a lot less deaths and the bullets are giant container crates.
It was also a little contrived too :/ like literally Holden explains this plan of his whilst he, his crew and ship are with the UNN fleet.
A stellar example of how to do more with less.
NANI? EPSTEIN DORIFTO?
Im thankful they didnt tell the entire story. For us who read the books, it’s nice to feel like doing so was a unique experience.
That's not in any of the books, and freestyling books into TV was what killed GoT.

It's one of the reasons the Tynan is fairly unique in that it has 2x state of the art Martian PDCs "best guns in the Belt" we're told. Most Belter vessels carry torpedoes (and missiles which are cruder/slower/less advanced), PDCs are very rare outside the military.

Is it possible that some of the pods were decoys? They mention that 20 out of 30 of the pods made it to the surface, but it seems like there are more in total, and 20% fatality rate seems to corroborate this.
What's more likely? That you have reached the maximum number of soldiers you can spare on this mission or that you have reached the maximum number of pods that the Gianbatista can carry.

I MISS THIS SHOW IT WAS SO FRICKING GOOD!!!!

The only problem is this makes any mistakes more obvious as people pick through it with a fine toothed comb - for example in the Roci vs Pella battle they get the ammo counter on the railgun wrong, and in one episode they have characters of European and Oriental origin talking and one uses the term 'realtor', even though 'realtor' is a weird and peculiar term that is only relevant in one country on the world (USA) as it represents a trade association that only trades in that one country...

There are realtors (or, at least, a profession by that name) in Eastern Europe too!
@@caav56 There are 'ESTATE AGENTS'. That is the name of the profession, and the name that is used in every other country.
'Realtor' is a quirky trade association that only exists in one country and uses its financial might to ensure a monopoly in that country.
Is a full list of the ships involved in each encounter available anywhere? Both for this episode and previous ones. I'm a Wargamer and want to play them out (I've found good resources for ship stats)
No I still say the Jules Pierre Mao trying to start a war is the cleverest ruse.
I didn't get an explanation about the UNN battle group not helping in the battle, can anyone care to explain?
basically marco had split his forces so the 3 UNN-MCR-DRUMMER battlegroups weren't in range of each other.
@@AuxenceF ahh cool, okay thank you!!
What’s the background music?
Its called "Dust", and its found in this mix: ua-cam.com/video/DMc641-k9B8/v-deo.html
@@dark_ops1651, Thanks!
Is it wrong that I am in love with the Evil No.2, man, woman, she beast "Rosenfeld Guoliang" played by Kathleen Robertson....
nah its not wrong, shes the "death by snu snu" kind of woman
time to rewatch the entire series for the 2nd time
so real
Nice video. However, you mention a Laconia spin off....you do know about Persepolis Rising, Tiamat's Wrath and Leviathan Falls? We don't need a spin off, we just need someone to make continue the TV show using books 7, 8 and 9......which are amazing by the way!
Well back in the good ol days, I assumed that some sort of spin off that takes place right after Book 6 could have been possible. I figured it would’ve been easier on the actors who don’t look like their 30 years older counterparts yet. But doesn’t seem like that’s ever gonna happen now 😭
We can hope!@@dark_ops1651
can someone tell me what happened to those kids? they were shown at the beginning, ran from the police never to be seen again.
it felt like they just forgot about them
As I haven’t read anything that far yet, I can’t give you an answer from the books. All I can say is that all my senses point towards there being a Laconia show in the works.
I'm hoping for a sequel involving the Laconian Empire and other events that didn't or did occured in The Expanse show, off screen or wagly explained. Perhaps with the Roccinante shown as what they were by outsiders eyes, a sort of phantom they can't really tell if exists or not. Perhaps a brand new show telling us the store in a complete opposite of what we see in The Expanse. More belters, inners and mcrn.
Not to be whatever but some of the names of the assault team members look familiar? Hudson, Hicks, Ripley, Thrace, Quaid, Ackbar, Shepard...I am sure its just coincidence!😁
So debris of belter ship able to penetrate Pella's armor but torpedo after 20 seconds of acceleration can't. Ok, just a plot oriented physics laws.
Great breakdown of the battle, I've watched this video at least 3 times since it came out. Please also take this as honest feedback, the constant switching between present simple and past simple when narrating is super distracting. Usually one picks one a narrative tense and sticks with it, it'll make your video seem a lot more professional than it already is with just a little checking. Again, great video and well done!
