In the second episode of this season we also saw a Leonidas-class battleship that was stripped of all its armament and was used as a supply ship. That as well as the introduction of this new battleship shows that the UN navy is finally starting to modernise their fleet.
That’s the general assumption that most are making, and it would make sense with them having unusually large storage bays already and with the removal of the weapons they would have more, plus we see some Leos refitted with new Railguns and drives so it is assumed that with the introduction of the new Nathan Hale-Class and the post war (UN/MCR war) Demilitarization that they would retire the Nathan Hales first as although newer than the Truman-Class they are worse off in armament and efficiency than them, so that some of the ones that were not refitted they could have been converted into resupply ships instead of being scrapped altogether.
@@Autofleet4429 I’m assuming that the data they collected from Protogen has provided the UN a significant leap in technology. Hopefully this means a successful fleet modernization program in the works 🤞
Seeing how a few Leonidas-class appear in season 6, I feel like it's more of a stopgap solution than a "design-by-committee" that people initially called the ship. If you look closer at the model, the ship have the appearance of being modular. The drive section and the railguns are much less integrated into the ship than what we saw in Truman-class, which can be implies that those component were designed to be replaceable later in their life when the technology that were in development at that time became available.
I like how the Nathan-Hale class hints at UNN design taking more influence from MCRN ship design, a subtle nod to how the two navies are starting to work closer together.
And the UNN playing catch up through lessons learnt after Ganymede and the UN/MCR war, plus proto mol tech. A lovely bit of in universe world building.
this ship makes those carbon silicate lace plates look absolutely beautiful i thought they looked pretty out of place on the roci but here theyre perfect
That might be intentional: The _Roci_ was designed before they existed, and they were simply retrofitted onto the spaceframe as part of an upgrade package. So they seem a little awkward, wedged into the existing MCRN hull. It seems like the _Nathan Hale_ class was specifically designed to incorporate the plating, though. Perhaps it was even a direct response to Marco's dirty little "stealth rock" attack at the end of Season 5.
Touchscreens are worse in almost every regard but flexibility. When youre in a battle and fractions of seconds might decide if you live or die then having the controls at same place all the time instead of switching from menu to menu on a touchscreen is a huge advantage. The reason we see touchscreens everywhere these days isnt because theyre better but because its usually quite a bit cheaper to implement than physical buttons. The car manufacturer Mazda has removed the touchscreens from their current line up cause they argue people have too many crashes due to being distracted by them.
mazda did it rightfully so. touchscreens distract you way more than physical buttons, since physical buttons are way harder to miss and their location is way easier to memorize. BUT that only applies as long as no one invents some simulated haptic feedback for touchscreens/holograms. as soon as that happens, physical buttons will be far less important.
Cant remember which episode (i think s6 e2-3) but when Michio accidentally pressed the wrong command on the touchscreen due to the stress of the situation perfectly demonstrates your reasoning.
they could use it on the same manner as normal ones, for example, you sit in one place and the place can change to be another thing and stay put like that, you can also use this to change stations that are needed the most in case of damage, for example to what happend to inaros ship, the guns station got damaged, but if you have various station you can switch them even if you some functionality to the ship.
I know it's somewhat blasphemous but I actually think I prefer the design of this ship over the donager. I love the donager but something about its proportions always just put me off a little. Great to see a competitive modern ship design in UNN colors.
Donnager always seemed a little "over engined" to me, particularly since MCRN ships should (at least on average) be burning slower than their UNN counterparts, given the crews have greatly differing gravity tolerances
@Catnip Addict Being trained and living life comfortably are two different things. Athletes sometimes train with oxygen deprivation masks, but these are not nearly as effective as living at a higher altitude for a few months.
@Catnip Addict But has there ever been a case where a fighter pilot sustained more than 2 or 3 Gs for more than a few minutes at a time? High G maneuvers are usually pretty quick. Not doing a hard burn for days.
Idk if the UN Philosophy is to go with quantity over quality. I feel like the UN just has a bunch of old ships and the MCRN knowing it’s more limited resources will make matching numbers hard, focused on quality. Basically the UN had better things to focus its budget on since their larger older fleet could still get the job done
It’s probably to do with production capacity, during WWII the US produced a greater quantity of ships and Japan ships of higher quality, simply because the us had a higher production capacity and could make more, Japan couldn’t make as many so squeezed as much as they could out of each ship, I’ve always thought this was the origin of the doctrine in the expanse as well
@@leesnotbritish5386 I doubt it. They say several times over the seasons that the UNN ships and fleets are older than MCRN. I think, since the UNN used to patrol, police and control the entire system with slower ship, they originally needed a large fleet to cover everything. It doesn’t seem the UNN was building a lot of new ships to match the MCRN. Just upgrading the old ones and rely on numbers.
Yeah that's definitely an assumption. Just because Mars has a technological edge and the UN has a numbers advantage doesn't mean that the UNN has a deliberate quantity over quality approach to ship construction.
Considering this ship is brand-new within the show (as in we never saw it until this season), I would hedge a bet that she's the newest capital ship within the UNN and therefore would be the largest, so scaling her with the railguns (the 454-meter estimate) makes the most sense. Also, calling it the Nathan Hale class is just confusing, as we already know of UNN Nathan Hale from Season 2 (which is supposedly known as the Leonidas class), so I would like to think the Zenobia is actually a Xerxes class ship, which in the books were newer than every other UNN capital ship. Additionally, why would the Secretary General/Commander in Chief of the UNN choose anything less than the most powerful warship in her fleet as her flagship? If Zenobia isn't larger than the Truman class (which was also erroneously called a Nathan-Hale in S5E10), then it doesn't really make sense as the command-ship of the entire UNN.
My understanding was its a xerxes class ship and larger than the Truman class. Its also been called a battleship/dreadnought so I think the idea this ship is smaller than the Truman doesn't make sense
PDCs and Torpedoes doors sizes are consistent with the smaller size option, Nathan Hale-class is the classes official name as it can be seen on the ship's name pledge/plate thing (same thing they have in Star Trek), also using the "biggest & newest, most heavily armed ship" as what is effectively a taxi is just tactically stupid and a waste of resources which is vitality needed elsewhere
@@Autofleet4429 I see your point with the "newest doesn't necessarily mean largest", but the only way I see this ship being a "Nathan Hale-class" ship is if they decommissioned the old UNN Nathan Hale (Leonidas class) and then built another ship of this new class (the Nathan Hale). It just doesn't seem to align with UNN practices however, as they seem to like keeping extremely old ships in service just to keep their numbers up. And in a time of war (against the Free Navy), it would make sense that they would keep older Leonidas class ships in service, as we've seen with the UNN supply vessel.
@@monarch3335 we see Leos converted into supply ships at the beginning on this season and in the aftermath of the UN/MCR war It's stated that there was a big demilitarization going on and we see that some Leos have been refitted with new engines and railguns and it's been stated that while newer than the Truman-class the Leos are worse off in armaments and agility so retiring the one's not refitted or converted makes sense (before the attacks) and the OG Nathan Hale could have been destroyed during the war anyway (and depending on how literally you take the asset reuse from the beginning of season 3 she did have her engines sheered off by the Roci so given that the Leos were mass produced and that there was plenty of them they may not have even fixed her just decommissioned her instead).
I think the CIC we've seen is a dedicated CIC for flag officers to command the fleet rather than a normal CIC/bridge for ship operation. Most ships nowadays that can afford the space have separate command room for both (or more, depend on the ship), so it make sense to separate them apart so they won't interfere with one another. We've seen moment where it's almost empty while the ship is still operating as well, so it certainly isn't dealing with ship's operation.
I had hoped to see this ship as well as the Donnager class and the MCRN ships of the joint fleets in the final engagement, but somehow they forgot to do that. What a disappointment!!!
To this day, I think nothing beats the stealth ships design. It would be really cool to see one of the stealth ships come back and start wreaking havoc again. Maybe they get updated stealth capabilities, additional PDC's and perhaps the most powerful railgun ever fitted onto the smallest ship ever. Would be extremely cool if the belters got access to such a ship and decided to upgrade it or something to significantly improve their power.
most of the UNN fleet is made of old ships, the truman class is one of the oldest if not older class in service, the MCRN on the other hand relies mostly on new ship designs, the nathan hale is a new design, probably the first in over a century,
You deserve like a million subs, this video is so well put together and has great quality just like the rest of your videos. I would be bold to say that this ship is a Xerxes class battleship from the books. Surf TrekTronics did a video on this and he made some great points.
While I love listening to Surf TrekTonic's insights, sometimes his information can be a little off and speculative. Not everything from the books make it over to the show haha. 😄
@@dark_ops1651 I think using the transport thingy as scale could be off-putting because it is closer to the camera so it appears bigger or the ship appears smaller.
Also if you use the fleet support ships that were flying with the UNN Zenobia (they were converted leonidas classes) as a scale than the ship looks a lot bigger than your estimates, my estimates were closer to 500m than 200m but I don't know.
huge design flaw though...railguns are on the same line as the "fins" for the engines...which makes fireing back (or infront during deceleration) impossible. Rotating the engine section by 45° would fix this flaw.
I agree! however take into consideration that nothing will get close enough to the aft end of this ship. Missiles have the furthest range. If you have to use a railgun in aft facing position then the ship is already in checkmate since it’s a close range weapon.
@@APMo2 Yes. My point is, she was forced to flip _because_ she can't mount her railgun on a turret. A capital ship can, which is why you shouldn't pointlessly obstruct their firing arcs. The Roci found a use for railguns outside of CQB. It was in "checkmate" as you put it and still won that engagement. For an example of a warship with good turret placement, I'd point to the Qwaar-Jet class Taiidan Heavy Cruiser from the _Homeworld_ series. Its weapons are mounted on sponsons, giving its eight turrets excellent firing arcs. The guns could even depress so far as to fire on enemies directly behind it. There's very few areas it couldn't put a mass-driver round or ion cannon beam through.
@@ReddwarfIV because they have the longest sensor array range of any ship class smaller than it. Being 500m long puts it slightly bigger than the donnager. If the battleship can avoid having its reactor location from facing the enemy then it will do so. That plus long range sensors gives the battleship ample time to perform an appropriate defensive/offensive manoeuvre. Every design and constructed human made vessel is limited by its strengths and weakness’ and has been improved upon earlier obsolete designs that had entered service before it further constricting how and where certain things are placed. It took myself a long time to understand why things are built the way they are.
Good brake down. I'm personally not sold on it being a battleship with its known armaments and realistic size of the 2nd option I think its more a battlecruiser or heavycruiser rather than a battleship although with admiral Delgado's comment from season 5 unless the production team/other official source says otherwise then I will just have to accept it.
We can clearly remember that during the s5 that admirl with avasarala( i forgot his name, the one with the belter in a bar joke),he says 2 nathan hale class defending the ring along with 1 donny!!!!! I dont understand why they chose that ... Cuz its 2 truman class and 1 donny ... The next time in hearing of nathan hale is this breakdown!!!! I dont understand why they said truman class as nathan hale!!!!
@@dark_ops1651 During S5:Ep8 SG Paster asks if Marko would attack the Ring and Admiral Delgado replies saying that there were two Nathan Hale-Class Battleships & a Donnie Guarding it and that they were enough. At the time people were split on whether it was a production error or an attempt to retcon the Truman-Class, I Idk if the production team decided to use the mistake from season-5 as the name for the new class and fix the production mistake by implying that the Admiral mistaken the Truman as the Nathan Hale-Class (although they were aware about the mistake as it was made aware to them on twitter and they acknowledge it)
The name Nathan hale is weird as it was already used for a battleship in Season 1 (Leonidas Class) along with that we dont see the ship that bears the name of the class either. Also the drop ship shot was with the drop ship close and the Zenobia further away which means the Drop ship will appear larger than it actually is relative to the Zenobia. Also it being called Nathan hale might just be a mistake as in S5 Truman Class were called Nathan hale class which is weird and creates more uncertainty. lastly though thats opinion i think that the Zenobia should be a Xerxes style battleship along with its entire class
It's officially the Nathan Hale-class as it says so on the ship's name plate thing (or what ever you call them like the ones they have in Star Trek) and its not a big issue as we haven't seen the og Nathan Hale since the beginning of season 3 and that was before the war she could of easily been destroyed so as long as we don't see it again (which I highly doubt we will) it isn't a big deal, the size used in this video is likely to be close to current based on calculations using the ship's PDCs (which are consistent in size on all UNN vessels) plus Xerxes-Class is the UNN's equivalent to the MCRN's Donnie and that goes against how the UN is portrayed in the show.
If Nathan-Hale is a legacy name, like Enterprise, or The Sullivan's it makes to rebuild it if it was destroyed in the war with Mars. Given the heavy losses this is reasonable to assume.
The ship class name wasn’t a decision I made haha. And I tried to compensate for the distance between the dropship and the Zenobia as much as possible. That’s why I liked being able to compare it to someone else’s scaling work. 😄
@@starkillerz6235 I believe that one uses the RGs as a base for it calculations which as we know can change drastically in size (plus we see the same railguns on the refitted Leos and we know the official size for them)
I feel like season 6 was a bit of a cock tease with these ships as they built up the new Donagers and Nathan Hales being built then the build up to the battle and never saw them actually engage in battle. I would've loved to see those giants fighting side by side at least for one scene. Kind of disappointing if you ask me.
of course with Avasaralla in charge she probably put modernization of the fleet as the top budget considering what it had cost Earth to have terribly outdated junkers. Decommissioning the old fleet would probably be a net savings considering what a logistical and resoruce burden old warships tend to be. Also as the Free Navy demonstrated now anybody could potentially get their hands on the best technology which mean that it was no longer just the MCRN they had to worry about.
I like the UNN ships more than the MCRN ones, because while I admire the latter's sleek design, the UNN ships represent practicality over pretty much everything else. Take the Leonidas class for example, it's pretty much a brick with some guns on it and it's outclassed by pretty much anything in the MCRN arsenal but there's something about the combination of its glaring weaknesses and physical design that makes me respect it as a ship. The UNN as a whole is pretty much like the Leonidas Class, spartan (heh), large, lumbering, outmoded but still capable of giving the MCRN a very bloody nose. The Zenobia is definitely a shift in the UNN's overall doctrine, and was probably helped along by the UNN's discovery of the Osiris, the Amun-Ra class ship, that was left pummeled at the Battle of the Spin Station and is perhaps the best ship in its navy outside of the relatively unknown Xerxes Class.
As far as the scaling goes, it makes no sense for any military to scale down the main guns on a battleship. It's far more like that they would scale up the PDCs. Also, there is absolutely no chance that any navy would make a "battleship" that is literally half the size of its nearest rival. The Donager is around 475m long, so you can safely bet that the 454m version is canon.
PDCs usually stay the same size on UNN ships. Also, bigger doesn’t necessarily mean better. Smaller ships can be built in more numbers, and it means less surface area to cover with carbon silicate lace plating.
@@dark_ops1651 but, again, it's comes back to the fact that you wouldn't call it a battleship if it is half the size of its nearest battleship rival. Militaries are always dick measuring. Sure, bigger isn't always better and smaller ships take less time to build. But, if youre building ships that arent much bigger than a Scirocco class, they simply wouldn't be battleships, and wouldn't be called battleships just for the sake of it. They'd be heavy cruisers, at best. The whole point of a battleship is to bring massive firepower to the battlefield, which is entirely why I said it wouldn't make sense to downsize their big guns. When it comes to kinetic slugs, more mass being accelerated means more kinetic energy and more destructive potential. You also have to remember that Battleships are as much symbols of the side that creates and uses them, as well as psychological warfare, as they are practical war machines. You build a battleship not only for the sheer power that they bring to combat, but as a statement of what your side is capable of creating. You don't build a *Battleship* if you're trying to prove that "bigger isn't better."
@@dark_ops1651 kind of a poor justification, ain't it? Not only is the Leo old, at this point, but is the result of a notoriously underfunded and ultimately failed attempt to modernize the UN Navy, decades ago. It's size can be attributed more to a lack of funding than to the designers seeking to prove that bigger isn't always better (fun fact: the UNN philosophy was, in fact, that bigger is better). Look at this from a simple common sense perspective. The entire point of the Nathan-Hale Class is to be a direct counterpart to the Donnager Class, with the UNN obviously pouring copious resources into its development. If the Donnager is 475m long, you can safely bet that the UNN's newest and most powerful battleships will be similarly sized (454m, in this case). Quick Side Note: there seems to be some overlapping information between the Xerxes Class Command Battleship and the Nathan-Hale Class Battleship. The information that I have read on both seems to indicate that they are more or less one in the same. The Xerxes Class is almost exactly 500m long, making it larger than the Donnager. Even if these two designations aren't the same ship, you can safely assume that the larger size of the Xerxes Class is indicative of the design philosophy of modern UNN battleships.
After watching the Rocinante’s performance with that new armor…… Holy shit! That rail gun on the ring station had to be throwing rounds the size of minivans. That armor needs to be made out of Vibranium to be able to withstand that
Can you do a breakdown of the Proteus which was included in one of the episodes near the end where Marco was looking at his screen as they were bringing in the rail guns for the ring station
I’d love to. However there isn’t much information on them at this point. But I have a sneaky suspicion that we’ll get more information in the finale. It’s well within the realm of possibility 👀
Is there any explanation why the command centers in large vessels ignore all security? There are no chairs, the personnel walks around in overalls, no helmets, no strapping in, just like they'll never ever change direction or cut thrust or risk de-pressurization? I know it's cinematic and looks "cool", but goes against the grain of the rest of the show. Shouldn't they all be strapped in seats with full pressure suits on?
No, the ship is pressurized, meaning it has habitable pressure and atmosphere, so.no helmet needed, and no hole short of the full destruction of the ship will make it depressurize faster than u can patch it in reality, as shown in the show, and personel strap in when changes r made in acceleration only, no need to be chair bound if the ship isn't actively accelerating
@@0122arendell I can understand that size of the ship creates a buffer for depressurization. Like in the scene where the main characters are in the "brig" and the Donnager is engaging the Stealth ships. But, wouldn't a hit on a ship even so large create a potential danger for crew just standing on a command deck? I mean, we wear helmets on bikes, why wouldn't a decorated commander of a huge spaceship protect her/him self in case of engine cut-offs? Hmmm, or maybe it just wouldn't matter considering inertia. They wouldn't suddenly stop in space. Anyways, thanks for the answer. I appreciate it. It makes me appreciate the show even more. (and suffer for the abrupt ending)
I admit I only saw clips of the show, but I have some thoughts just seeing this design: Missile Cruiser/CNC ship. The armor is extra thick around the front sides. With seirous PDC. Like they primarily expect to defend against missile strikes comming in at a frontal angle. The missiles are in the front, so it can show minimal profile while firing. The railguns can not fire aft and only combine fire frontal or along the vertical axis. So I say they are intended to fire frontal. It is used by the president. Who has much more use for CnC and communications gear, then for a weapons platform. Of course, this ship might have been modified extensively for the "President Plane" role. Reducing weaponry, to allow more quarters, faster speed and better communications equipment.
I'm not sure the UNN preferred quantity over quality. I think their fleet is simply outdated, and large. At one time, it would have had both quantity and quality, but being so outdated now just has the advantage of numbers.
I’m curious what is being monitored about the armor that you wouldn’t already want to monitor on regular armor, and why some are red when the ship hasn’t been hit
You actually bring up an interfering point, and I have an even more interesting solution 😳 The photo I used for that display, was taken from a behind the scenes video. That may hint towards this ship being caught in an engagement during the next episode. 😳
@@dark_ops1651 the Nathan Hale also uses carbon silicate plating, the first armour in the expanse that can actually resist PDC (and even railgun fire ) to a degree because it's Protomolecule dervied.
It’s not actually protomolecule being used. Similar to the plant that was being developed in Prax’s lab, they used research from studying the protomolecule, and made hull plating that somehow mimics an aspect of the protomolecule.
@@dark_ops1651 that's why I am thinking its a bio mechanical type of material that can self repair. Like a Babylon 5 show... the vorlons ... or shadows with their shell able to absorb some damage and repair itself
The same way all ships in The Expanse work. They point towards the target and burn that way to accelerate, then half way through the journey they flip around and burn backwards to decelerate. That was the whole point of the 'Epstein' drive - it was so efficient you could carry enough feul to burn the ENTIRE journey, rather than just a short burn to kick off, run with the engines cold most of the journey, and a short burn at the end to decelerate - IE how current-day rockets work.
Great video but I have trouble believing the brand new state of the art UN battleship would be smaller then the previous class. I know size is hardly everything but the UN military command for the most part always struck me as being very vain. Yes sure the Martians had newer ships but we have more. Our crews are trained better. Our ships are bigger and better then the FN. etc etc. And you have to remember this class would have been ok'd by the same warhawks that started the UN/Martian war. I doubt anything that wasn't larger and better then the Donnager class would have been ok'd.
The only thing I would change is more sloped surfaces. These battleships are in the situation similar to tanks. Any surface involved with facing towards an enemy should be sloped.
@@geohiekim8705 These ships have their drives in the *rear* which means to close distance on an enemy (which happens constantly in the series) the *front* of the ship will be pointed towards the enemy. When they offer a side at a normal (perpendicular) angle, they get lots of holes punched through them. And if you look at the Rossinante, she *is* armored and sloped on the front. But for some reason larger warships offer flat surfaces on front perpendicular to enemy fire. The reason you angle a surface is because projectiles have to go through a lot more armor - or even reflect off of it without penetration at the right angle. In the battle with the Pella and other ships, they were within a 10 degree arc. And the Rossi kept her smallest profile to them except for the quick spins.
It is a brand new class so you may have to wait a while, but yes, you will be able to get one eventually, it looks like Eaglemoss has picked up the license to build ships for the Expanse, so you may be waiting a few years, but most likely they will start selling those ships at some point, if not someone with a 3d printer will someday.
Love the show but god they need to do some editing to make sure the ships are what they are supposed to be. The UNN nathan hale is in season 2 and it is a leonidas class battleship. We know they always name the first ship in its class after the class. Also in season 5 the unn admiral at HQ tells Chrisjen the ring is guarded by two Nathan Hale class battleship when they are clearly Truman Class dreadnoughts. This is just lazy review as we now have 3 very different class of warships with 2 of them wrongly being labeled as Nathan Hale class.... Get your act together Expanse. Lastly the whole season we are taunted by the grandeur of the Zenobia as UNN1 and the flagship of the fleet and we never see it do anything from a battle standpoint. Sad.
to bad the show never gives you a good look at the fleets fighting. most of the fighting happened off screen. how did B5 do a better job then this show.
I'm of mixed opinion on UNN ships in this show, I don't like their escort ships (supply ships and those weird corvettes we saw over Ganymeade), I like the Truman a lot, I absolutely detest the Leonidas design, and I didn't like the Zenobia at first but I'm slowly coming to like it more.
These types of videos are interesting so no knock there. These movie ships - be they war ships or industrial ships of some sort - are ridiculously spacious. They're luxury cruise ships first and whatever second. This I always find unrealistic. Entertaining though.
higly unrealistic design even considering advancement in technology ! the ship is pulling at 1G so why floors are arranged longitudinally ? fact is if there is one day an actual space battleship life on board would be miserable with barely any space and you would spend most of your time strapped to your free floating bunk or work space or both at the same time ! the whole idea to have a space combat ship arranged like a cruise liner is idiotic , there is also no apparent cooling system despise the fact this is a critical issue in space , and no antennnas that seemed able to transmit data outside of the engine flares ! the Razorback looked like a way more combat capable ship that anything else in the show !

It’s probably to do with production capacity, during WWII the US produced a greater quantity of ships and Japan ships of higher quality, simply because the us had a higher production capacity and could make more, Japan couldn’t make as many so squeezed as much as they could out of each ship, I’ve always thought this was the origin of the doctrine in the expanse as well
@@leesnotbritish5386 the doctrine was based off Russian production capacity vs German quality
UNN ships are faster, than mcrn cuz they could handle more g force, three times in fact and that's huge and would be hard press to overcome.
@@Autofleet4429 Yep was about to write basicly the same comment
Well the fact that the CIC we saw, is split into four operations is canon. So I’m not really sure about that.

Would be extremely cool if the belters got access to such a ship and decided to upgrade it or something to significantly improve their power.
most of the UNN fleet is made of old ships, the truman class is one of the oldest if not older class in service, the MCRN on the other hand relies mostly on new ship designs, the nathan hale is a new design, probably the first in over a century,
Didn't know you'd come out with it that fast. Thanks for the video.

Honestly I wished for the Xerxes-class to come into the show, but this is acceptable.
You deserve like a million subs, this video is so well put together and has great quality just like the rest of your videos. I would be bold to say that this ship is a Xerxes class battleship from the books. Surf TrekTronics did a video on this and he made some great points.

You say that like we didn't see the Roci forced to cut drives and do a 360 no-scope on Inaros' squadron in a recent episode
@@ReddwarfIV the roci is a frigate.. capital ships cannot perform the same level of manoeuvrability as a railgun equipped frigate.

I'm personally not sold on it being a battleship with its known armaments and realistic size of the 2nd option I think its more a battlecruiser or heavycruiser rather than a battleship although with admiral Delgado's comment from season 5 unless the production team/other official source says otherwise then I will just have to accept it.
When did Delgado make a comment like that?
We can clearly remember that during the s5 that admirl with avasarala( i forgot his name, the one with the belter in a bar joke),he says 2 nathan hale class defending the ring along with 1 donny!!!!! I dont understand why they chose that ... Cuz its 2 truman class and 1 donny ... The next time in hearing of nathan hale is this breakdown!!!! @@dark_ops1651 During S5:Ep8 SG Paster asks if Marko would attack the Ring and Admiral Delgado replies saying that there were two Nathan Hale-Class Battleships & a Donnie Guarding it and that they were enough.
At the time people were split on whether it was a production error or an attempt to retcon the Truman-Class, I Idk if the production team decided to use the mistake from season-5 as the name for the new class and fix the production mistake by implying that the Admiral mistaken the Truman as the Nathan Hale-Class (although they were aware about the mistake as it was made aware to them on twitter and they acknowledge it)
@@dhinastark3610 haha that’s hilarious 😆
Ship designations have always been more about politics than rigid rules anyway.
@@dark_ops1651 i saw another scaling making it 500 meter long
@@starkillerz6235 I believe that one uses the RGs as a base for it calculations which as we know can change drastically in size (plus we see the same railguns on the refitted Leos and we know the official size for them)
If we had gotten concept art for season 6 in the bonus content on Prime video, We likely would’ve gotten the size of the Zenobia.
They took "Quantity over quality" to the extreme with the Leonidas Class, that was already outdated before production

Great video, keep up the amazing work
I like the UNN ships more than the MCRN ones, because while I admire the latter's sleek design, the UNN ships represent practicality over pretty much everything else.
Forget the soundtrack, start a petition to keep the series alive.
Excellent video. What's the score in the background?

Great ship breakdown
Glad you liked it!
@@t.sorvig3540 It’s not uncalled for the UNN to do something like this though. The Leonidas Class BATTLESHIP is even smaller than the Nathan-Hale
@@t.sorvig3540 Goddamn man. I gotta say, I really respect your dedication. I guess you’re right 👍

Could you share what font you are using. Looks great.
It’s an expanse font that somebody made. I believe it was called “Protomolecule”. I’m sure you’ll find it!
Excellent work! Thanks.
Amazing video!
I admit I only saw clips of the show, but I have some thoughts just seeing this design:
Missile Cruiser/CNC ship.
I like the design of the Nathan Hales but the Truman hits different for me. Definitely a favorite of me.
I'm not sure the UNN preferred quantity over quality. I think their fleet is simply outdated, and large. At one time, it would have had both quantity and quality, but being so outdated now just has the advantage of numbers.
I’m curious what is being monitored about the armor that you wouldn’t already want to monitor on regular armor, and why some are red when the ship hasn’t been hit
maybe it's an active armour system and that the ones in red were not active at the time for what ever reason.
Protomocule armor plating? Is that like regenetive plating

Sounds like something Admiral Kirino would say
Wonder how the UN ships work, BC I always see them flying forward with engines front and somehow able to propel it that way.
Is 18 even considered full PDC coverage
Great video but I have trouble believing the brand new state of the art UN battleship would be smaller then the previous class. I know size is hardly everything but the UN military command for the most part always struck me as being very vain. Yes sure the Martians had newer ships but we have more. Our crews are trained better. Our ships are bigger and better then the FN. etc etc. And you have to remember this class would have been ok'd by the same warhawks that started the UN/Martian war. I doubt anything that wasn't larger and better then the Donnager class would have been ok'd.
Damn nice video.
The only thing I would change is more sloped surfaces. These battleships are in the situation similar to tanks. Any surface involved with facing towards an enemy should be sloped.
On the other hand, in space there's no concrete 'towards an enemy', since they could be engaging from all dimensions.
It's actually 500m long according to lore. It's length is similar to the Donnager Class
