My grandparents have a 1984 GT350 as well!! 40 some thousand miles all original car. A guy had it for about 3 months before them then traded it in and thats when they purchased it. For some reason he kept the badge thats on the dash so it no longer has it..
In Rochester Minnesota two brothers of high school age worked and saved up cash to buy a new 1985 Mustang GT which I believe that they ordered. It fell off of the rail car during transport to the dealer and it was totaled. They contacted Ford Motor Company and Ford said it’s not our problem so they sued Ford in court and won so Ford built them a new 1986 Mustang GT. I remember talking to them at least once while cruising north Broadway in Rochester Minnesota in my 5.0 4 speed Pace Car which I bought in August 1987. I believe it was red. I wonder what happened to the 1985 GT that fell off of the rail car? In 1995 I worked at Minneapolis Auto Auction and I got to drive used cars off of 3 level auto carriers and you feel like you are driving off of a cliff up on the 3rd level. While working there one day a red 82 GT came in. No 5.0 badge so I opened the hood and was surprised to see the 200 inline 6. I don’t remember if it had the hood scoop.
@@GearHead704 guy near me has a 5.9 liter 98 Dakota RT with 110 miles. Bought it and parked it. The miles came from the people at the dealer when it was new wheeling around in it

I’ve bought stuff off Matt, I like that guy and has good stuff. It can be saved and honestly I think I would if it were mine. It would be a colossal amount of work , but 11 miles .... yea I would
Well i would pass only because I have 4 projects, but if I could focus on just this one for a year or so, I would enjoy the opportunity. Perhaps chop up another Foxbody and do a frame up semi resto, gotta go through everything on the motor trans, frame, rear end, ect. A salvage title is a con, hmmm, only a pet project to see how far it could get , but hard to be enthusiastic.
If you watch the whole video, neither Matt from FMR or I are leaning towards a restore, but I can tell you that he can totally do it. I am 100% confident.
@@GearHead704 I wonder if the Mustang Museum would be interested in putting on display for a while. Sort of like what the Corvette Museum did with the sink hole cars. Not exactly the same thing but still interesting.
205 horse power with the Holley 4V. As someone that has owned a convertible 84 GT 350 since 1989, I love to see them in original shape buttttt. I think that car is too far gone. What I would do is restore another 84 GT and transfer the engine, trans, wiring harness, steering, seats etc. Doesn't have to even drive. I think there are probably less GT's in good shape then GT350s.
Honestly, there is a point where a car has met the end of its life. I wouldn't part this one out b/c of its story and value as an 11-mile car. Yet, if it was any other 11-mile fox that was totaled, I probably grab some parts for my fox. 83-84 parts low milage parts are hard to come by sometimes. Also, don't hate on that 175hp, my fox has the same factory HP rating and loses drag races to non-performance Hondas lololol.
So your saying that bumper cover was available only in 84 1/2 but my 83 gt has the same bumper cover with the ford motorsports logo stamped in it. So that means mines not a original bumper cover??
Bring on the memory, lane? Seen a few back in my young days, remember thinking, that little car has a V-8! Four lug wheels. Some guys actually put nice exhaust on them, not fast but it sounded fast!
Those things sounded great with a set of Flowmasters on them. Buddy of mine had one in high school. Could make them quick even tho they had less than a couple hundred stock hp new.
I owned the same car but not T top. I bought mine as the 3rd owner, car only had 32,000 mi. I had nothing but problems with mine. Main computer went out. Went through 2 tranny's had the overdrive. Went through 2 rearends. Then had overheating issues. Replaced all the cooling system. Car was a lemon. Was fun to drive when it ran. Sold it for $400 to get some of my $ back for BFG tires. Sold it with 50k mi on it. 165hp Slow Stang. The 84 mustangs take em to the crusher melt them down. Make some heads that flow with the metal.
You can either part it out or fix it. If you were going to fix it a collaboration with the guy from Diy gang would be awesome. He rebuilt a burnt Hellcat
Restore it just find another fox body that has been wrecked in the front end. My a stepfather has a 79 cobra white and black red leather seats 5.0 4spd. I had a 80 Ghia Coupe some one had ripped the rag part off the roof. I changed 3/4 of the interior from Blue to red the car was white straight 6 auto.
being an 11 original mile car it would definitely be cool to see it fully restored and definitely worth some serious coin but even if it was fully factory restored that shell will always be a totaled car and will diminish the value significantly. i suppose it would just come down to if it was a sentimental thing(clearly not), money being no object a wanting to restore it for a personal collection, or if restoring to sell would bring a potential profit. personally, i would have neither the skill, money, or desire to restore it.
I remember when these came out - I used to cut the car ads out of magazines, have this one somewhere. Seems like it’s beyond restoration but you have a few pieces to work and get another Fox hatchback if you’re really into that undertaking. Good luck with your task , hope to see your results.
I need that whole car to finish the resto on my 83 vert. Its the one I was telling you about that I had the 84.5 gt 350 nose for and ran over it with my big truck backing in drive one day. Not only does it have that specific nose but also the engine even though its a flat tap. The vert is a v6 and I want to v8 swap it. I could always put roller lifters in it im sure it needs a rebuild after setting since 84 im sure the gaskets are trash and engine probably has rust in it from carb being off. But could definitely use most of this

Why don’t you restore the engine and swap it into a better ssp body?
Matt at FMR is considering using the parts to help other FoxBody's, so that's an option.
@@GearHead704 I did hear him say that and that is a great idea by him. I just thought that almost all of the engine is there and may be awesome to rebuild it for his other ssp. 😉 👍🏼
She's a keeper. Worth tons of money. 11 miles is unheard of! 😃 Barret Auction might make hundreds of thousands off of her
🤣
@@GearHead704 😂👍
Just so sad. It's not even my baby but I don't think I could pull the life support plug... I hope someone can save it. I'm depressed now, lol.
Oh no, sorry Boomerang, that was not the goal LOL. Matt may save it yet, we'll see.
My grandparents have a 1984 GT350 as well!! 40 some thousand miles all original car. A guy had it for about 3 months before them then traded it in and thats when they purchased it. For some reason he kept the badge thats on the dash so it no longer has it..
Sounds like a nice car, sorry to hear about the badge, but I'm sure it's a fun car to cruise in.
Hey Matt check the last three on the vin # bet you it got three sixes on it
😂 That would fit as far as the car being cursed wouldn't it LOL
I think it's a cool conversation piece as it sits. Clean it up, disinfect it and put it in his lobby as a conversation starter for customers.
I think ideas like this are cool
Too bad there isn’t a museum of cars with hard luck stories.
It would fit in there well for sure.
Wow, thanks for sharing some of those great stories, although the 85 falling off of the truck is just crazy, but I'm glad they won.
Cursed like Christine, damn same. 👊🦊
LOL Frank, I told you over DM this one would be interesting 😁
What an awesome find!!! Congrats
It's a wild story for sure.
@@GearHead704 guy near me has a 5.9 liter 98 Dakota RT with 110 miles. Bought it and parked it. The miles came from the people at the dealer when it was new wheeling around in it
@@BrailsfordsRides I always like those small trucks with the big V8 in them.
Wanted to buy one in 84, however army salary wouldn’t permit it!
They were $$$$ back then for sure so that's understandable. My dad was also in the Army, so thanks for your service.
I had a 1979 Foxbody, 2.3L 4-speed. Was lusting after that car (the 84 GT-350) test drove it, but put off buying and the local dealer sold it. Missed the opportunity so this hurts. Sad.
It's very sad, I"m also sorry you didn't get one.
I test drove a brand new 1984GT350 I was not impressed, just plagiarism. I did buy a brand new 1985 GT.
I think the 85 GT was way better in my opinion.
I would love to have that front bumper cover! I recently bought an 84 mustang gt turbo and the guy cut a section out for the aftermarket intercooler and I want that stock look with the fog lights
Oh man that stinks. I'll let everyone here on the channel know what Matt's plans are for it.
After inflation, $13,279.50 would be $33,078.84
That'd be cheap for a GT350 these days for sure. I guess the price really has gone up.
I have seen some t-tops with regular side mirrors and then some with vert mirrors. Why is that?
Good question, I'm not sure. Hopefully we can cover this on the channel in the future.
I do think I see a stripped black t top hatchback in the background..take the roof and diverside off and rebuild the gt 350...get your new welding skills to work.get the car running and driving if it goes straight fix it..if its bent part it out...more content for your show.
I think that is Matt's 82 you're talking about. I want to say that one holds a special place for him, but I could be wrong on that.
Happy birthday to your son and have a great day.
Thanks John! He had a good one.
I think it would be a awesome Museum piece with a story.
I actually ie this idea, but I'll have an update video on what Matt is going to do with it soon.
Wow.... Thats a crazy story to this poor pony....hope it get to see life in one form or another!!👍👍👍👍👍
It definitely will Joe!
@@GearHead704 sad to see happens to these cars!
@@josephleonardi8977aye, it is
call me crazy, but I would be interested in buying this car "if" it is restored "properly" to original spec ...
I'm sure fully restored it would bring a lot of interest.
Wow 11 miles sure was a tough 11 miles LOL definitely doesn't look the part from afar poor car is like a magnet for destruction... love the videos that you're putting out man they're great keep it up!
Hey Shifty! Yeah, hard life for sure LOL. Definitely a magnet LOL. Thanks buddy!
The juice ain’t worth the squeeze on that one fellas. Cool story for sure less the drunk driver.
Agreed.
Not worth saving it. Maybe if it had minor damage but it doesn't. I'd pull the motor, trans, and part out what you can of the interior/front end
Personally I lean that way as well.
If this car could talk I believe it would say " if it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all"
😂 Yeah dude, I think you're totally right on that ROFL
Are you saying this car is cursed?
I'm not superstitious BTW, many good things have happened in my life that have fallen on the "13th".
Amazing story!! Would be one massive restoration
True on both counts for sure!
Do Not try to Fix it. It and its Story belongs in a Museum
That's not a bad way to go.
Great video. And congrats on a video thats on fire! Sad to see it that way.
Thanks buddy! I never thought this one would pop off. Sometimes it's the ones you don't expect LOL. Yeah it's sad for sure.
Only 11 miles ,but absolutely totaled!
Yes, very sad.
I’ve bought stuff off Matt, I like that guy and has good stuff. It can be saved and honestly I think I would if it were mine. It would be a colossal amount of work , but 11 miles .... yea I would
Yes and could, and I gree, Matt is awesome!
So many more productive things Matt could do with his time lol.
Absolutely. Time is money really.
It's certainly possible, but a lot of work. 4 projects, wow that's a lot! Good luck with them.
@@GearHead704 thanks!
Who are you trying to fool thinking you'll restore that disaster, yourself or us?
If you watch the whole video, neither Matt from FMR or I are leaning towards a restore, but I can tell you that he can totally do it. I am 100% confident.
@@GearHead704 With enough time and effort, of course, but it keeps getting mentioned. That's the reason for the comment.
Dude I literally just picked up the saame exact car!!! Sat for a while too, 84.5 gt350
My 84 gt350 has the 140mph factory speedo. Matt ‘s had 85 mph , what does your have ?
85
Congrats on picking up your GT350!
I wish I could post pictures on here

what a complete piece of garbage, it wasn't ever anything and never will be. A stripe car at best, it's scrap now
I'm not an 84 fan, but I'm sure brand new it was nice. I prefer the Aero FoxBody's
Those wheels came factory with metric tires on them,I used to have the same set on an old ford fairmont many years ago
Yes, not much fun to find tires for those for sure.
Happy (belated birthday) t0 gearhead704s son!
Thanks so much! He had a good one.
Very interesting story. It would be sort of fun to look for old newspaper articles where the crash might have been reported.
Oh, that's a good idea!
@@GearHead704 I wonder if the Mustang Museum would be interested in putting on display for a while. Sort of like what the Corvette Museum did with the sink hole cars. Not exactly the same thing but still interesting.
@@StupidFastTruck I"ll talk to Matt about it, but I"m just not sure what he wants to do with it either, but honestly I think it's a cool idea.
🐎🏁would be incredible to see this restored. the restoration process would be more amazing than the expected outcome.
Yup, agreed.
I had an 80 foxbody manual with a sunroof in high school. But it was a 4 cylinder :(
That's ok, you still looked good driving it I'm sure 😁
205 horse power with the Holley 4V. As someone that has owned a convertible 84 GT 350 since 1989, I love to see them in original shape buttttt. I think that car is too far gone. What I would do is restore another 84 GT and transfer the engine, trans, wiring harness, steering, seats etc. Doesn't have to even drive. I think there are probably less GT's in good shape then GT350s.
I think you're right about the GT's. I was surprised to learn how much appeal these cars had.
1984 4V was not rated at 205 HP. It was rated at 175 HP. The CFI version was rated at 165 HP.
Hah hah, fair point Sammy, I shouldn't hate on the HP LOL. Yeah this is such a tough one to know what to do with.
So your saying that bumper cover was available only in 84 1/2 but my 83 gt has the same bumper cover with the ford motorsports logo stamped in it. So that means mines not a original bumper cover??
He just meant the bump cover with the fog lights.
So the 84 1/2 were the only ones to get the fog lights??
Thatz awesome yall found that. Awesome video Bro 💪
Yes it was, just kind of a crazy story. Thanks Ant!
Bring on the memory, lane? Seen a few back in my young days, remember thinking, that little car has a V-8! Four lug wheels. Some guys actually put nice exhaust on them, not fast but it sounded fast!
Very cool! These Fox's are fun.
Those things sounded great with a set of Flowmasters on them. Buddy of mine had one in high school. Could make them quick even tho they had less than a couple hundred stock hp new.
does it have the drop down map light? I would be interested.
I'm not sure.
Oh man, sounds rough, but yeah I"m personally not a fun of the GT350's either.
There's a small foxbody junk yard kind of thing in Elgin, Al
Cool, FoxBody parts in junk yards are hard to find nowadays.
I’m glad Do you know I’m not the only one with fox body issues
Hah hah nope. It's very contagious! LOL
If a good body shop can start pulling the damage properly, it can be saved
Definitely can be saved for sure. I'll have an update soon on what Matt is going to do with it.
Great story I need a 79 dash, would that dash work?
Not sure (I thought there were some differences personally), but Matt at FMR is not sure if he's selling parts from it yet or not.
You can either part it out or fix it. If you were going to fix it a collaboration with the guy from Diy gang would be awesome. He rebuilt a burnt Hellcat
I remember seeing some of that! Cool stuff.
I have one of those can't get tires for those rims
Got a new set if youre interested 220 55 390. Mustangranch1@yahoo.com is my contact info
Yeah the metric tires are not fun.
T-top specific doors also. They are getting hard to find.
Most likely from here on out all the parts are going to get harder to find.
@@GearHead704 , yep!! I started collecting a few parts a couple years ago just for that reason.
Loved hearing the background on those. I love the 79's too. I'll have an update coming soon to the channel on what he's going to do with it.
Hey that car came from my state of south Carolina!!!👍
Very cool! We are really close in the Charlotte area.
One Haunted Fox!!!
Definitely a rough rough life.
being an 11 original mile car it would definitely be cool to see it fully restored and definitely worth some serious coin but even if it was fully factory restored that shell will always be a totaled car and will diminish the value significantly. i suppose it would just come down to if it was a sentimental thing(clearly not), money being no object a wanting to restore it for a personal collection, or if restoring to sell would bring a potential profit. personally, i would have neither the skill, money, or desire to restore it.
I think you covered all the basis very well. We'll see what he does with it.
I remember when these came out - I used to cut the car ads out of magazines, have this one somewhere. Seems like it’s beyond restoration but you have a few pieces to work and get another Fox hatchback if you’re really into that undertaking. Good luck with your task , hope to see your results.
Very good point! I"ll have an update video coming soon on his decision. Thanks for checking out the video.
Its a driver. Little extra wind noise maybe. I would clear coat it ASAP!
😂 This comment truly has me rolling.
Happy you enjoyed my comment brother. Keep the good content coming!
But could definitely use most of this
I think you're right that it'll need a rebuild. If you seriously want this car give them a call. Phone number is on the website foxresto.com
