What is OMORI?
Omori is a psychological horror role-playing video game developed by indie studio OMOCAT. The game tells the story of a hikikomori boy named Sunny and his dream world alter-ego Omori, exploring the real world and the surreal dream world to overcome his repressed fears and secrets. He is joined by a party of his close friends as they explore the overworld and engage in turn-based battles against fantastical enemies, with status effects based on the characters' emotions. The game has two routes with multiple endings based on the player's choices. (Wikipedia, 2020)

In my opinion, it was all in SUNNY's head. They were still sleeping while BASIL commited sewerside. Only SUNNY discoveres BASIL's corpse and returns to his home.
Besides, ambulance sirens is heard
after SUNNY'S moves out. I mean they discovered BASIL's corpse, said OHNOHONOHNO then they go back to sleep, then they wake up and checked up what's up with BASIL and said "Yup, still dead. Lets call ambulance".

I sort of think so too. She’s different from the Jumpscare-ry Hellmari
Mari herself didn't want to leave, and knows it was an accident. The hellish variants and somethings are not controlled by her but instead products of Sunny's mind, but she herself seems to be still alongside her friends and brother, watching over them.

the music stopping as soon as you get the something by the door reflection never fails to send shivers up my spine. i’ll never forget when i peeked through the vines at sweetheart’s castle a few times and the pure terror that i felt when the music stopped. while it’s cute at first glance, this game really knows how to do horror
The game is so good, I’m actually kinda sad more big UA-camrs aren’t paying attention to it at all, considering it’s been out for a while and all.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. I was just roaming around the garden since I didn’t know what to do and clicked on the vines. The music stopping and something staring at me really just shook me to my core. It’s the first time and game has ever done that, so I applaud it.

Seeing "something", the hanging Mari, and Hellmari so many times, I think they really missed an opportunity to have normal Mari for once smiling warmly beside you in the hospital mirror before fading away.
I don’t think it would fit. The ending is more about coming to terms with things, but he still has trauma and the game knows that. It works better that nothing is behind him. It’s him. He’s doing this by himself.

@@graysans_art im inclined to agree. so often, when i see portrayals of characters that have trauma in media, its like a big thing they overcome and then its all over and they celebrate, like defeating the villain in a disney movie. but thats not how it works.
trauma never goes away. grief never goes away. you just learn to manage it. its messy and its hard and you never stop struggling. which is why im happy it ended the way it did.
it isnt the end of a harrowing tale, its the very first step towards recovery. hes still got a _long_ way to go from here.
I dont think it's mari hanging. I think it's just her looking at him from his perspective the way he remembers her
@@bumbabeesnot just Sunny but everyone, Sunny and Basil just had it the worst based on their involvement and impossible circumstance for their age. It'd be a miracle if they all remained friends after the truth comes out but a lot of people agree it'd take years before they all move on enough for that to happen. That's where the real test of their bonds begins. Sunny moving away isn't a bad thing. They're all about to be adults anyways so they'll have the freedom to reunite once they've had their space to focus on themselves and heal. Narratively yes we'd all like to think after the truth comes out, Sunny begs his mom to stay and within a year theyre all fine, but that's just not this kinda story, and I love it for that.

@@elisasansco8731 Most people’s first reaction is to just go straight for the Backyard Door when it opened, especially if they didn’t notice the mirror by the wall. I almost did the same. I mean, the similarly-constructed room created by the Keeper didn’t have that mirror.

Speaking of said hell sunny, if you are on the omori route and you change sweetheart's castle to this room, the mirror is gone completely. Otherwise the room is identical to the "calm" version.
The entire sequence of events at 1:25 just makes me really sad. I feel like sunni would have said yes right then if hero didn't walk in. imagine how sad it is from hero too, I bet he's heard those notes so many times he got ecstatic and then so confused, he probabaly bawled his eyes out when he was certain nobody was around after putting on that emotional exterior of his so sunni didn't have to see him like that. idk how I feel about the mirror, because it's not "threatening" or even scary per se, to me it's just more of "hey". And since sunni just got out of that emotional whiplash that was the room before, we're probabaly seeing what he believes of it as "I don't want to face that right now" and Mari, being actual ghost instead of the imagination hell Mari before, just accepted it and stood behind him.

In case you didn’t know, In Black Space 2, or the Creepy playground, Where Piñata guy is located spinning on a pole, Originally it supposed to have Mari’s hanged body spinning as well, But developers decided not to include it, Since it would be to f*cked up, But I wished they added Mari’s hanged body spinning, Cause honestly “Omori” is already dark and creepy as it is so……..

9:54 i just noticed the outlines of Omori's reflection doesn't move like how they do in Headspace, like Omori isn't a real being in the real world at all, he's just a cover and how Sunny sees himself when he lets Omori take over.

The scariest thing about all of this is Sunny's lack of emotions

After hallucinating his dead sister playing the piano, he doesn't look any different in the mirror.
After hearing about one of his best friends' suicide, there is nothing but a blank expression on his face.
Being in the same room as Basil during his total breakdown, Sunny doesn't show any response when he looks in the mirror.
His blankness (alongside OMORI's) is the creepiest of all to me
I think that's the result/sign of a severe mental illness. I used to have that back then before I got diagnosed long ago.
At some point, you'll get reaction delay because you're too used to bottle things up. Even if you want to feel sad, or angry, you just can't because you subconciously bottle them up instead till you finally have a mental breakdown, and let everything out.
EDIT: and it depends how long till you reach the mental breakdown part.

At the part where ghost Mari is playing piano and Hero walks in he says that he heard music which brings up the fact that since Sunny wasn't playing the piano that might mean that ghost Mari was actually playing the piano
That might be true. Personally, I think he might just be hearing things at the right place at the right time. These “coincidences” aren’t uncommon in entertainment mediums.

I think that the likelihood of a shared hallucination is lower than 15% due to an aggregation of evidence. Sadly this does nothing to contest the chance that FoggyHeadspace!Mari is less likely to be the same as this one

I feel like everyone forgot to look into the mirror when basils something appeared. Almost every livestream i've watched, they've missed it which is sad. I made sure to look in the mirror everytime I had the chance to.
The scariest thing about this whole mirror shtick is that you’re almost never gonna know ahead of time what’s going to be in the mirror. And that’s scary as sh*t.

Thanks for the comment! That only applies to the Black Space Mirror, iirc. Playing with the mirror in the Playground does not do anything, as far as I know. It's been answered in this comment section already but the Black Space Mirror doesn't actually show an actual Reflection and therefore isn't relevant to this video :).

@@emms You play hide and seek with the mirror normally as you would with the normal playground mirror. However, if you choose to play with the mirror again, Omori comes out of the mirror to play a slightly less PG-13 version of Hide and Seek with you.
one thing in this game that really hit me hard is when sunny starts to perceive himself as omori. like his escapism is so bad that he know longer knows the difference between his imagination and reality. even during the sunny route, you can see the wormhole on one side if the side walk, but when you get closer, you realize sunny was hallucinating
There are a lot of those instances, young SUNNY and AUBREY on the swings, HEADSPACE friends chilling in the park. The 12-15 year old group reading magazines. If anything, it was sad for me to see. It was about here that I realized that SUNNY takes inspiration from his real world surroundings and pits them into HEADSPACE (ie Otherworld being Othermart)
That's exactly what terrified me so badly. Slowly losing his grip on reality (and quite frankly, not giving a shit about it.)

honestly seeing mari behind sunny after the piano thing is scary at first but when you realize it's just her (and not the *fucking* hellmari thing that is just too spooky for me to handle) it's really calming, just knowing shes somewhat there.

Hellmari always terrified me because of the overwhelming sense of silence and anticipation for worse. Plus her appearance is disturbing in a way that’s both humanoid and beast
they put so much detail into this i love it!
Literally anywhere you go in this game, you can almost always find something new that you haven't seen before. I'd argue that they took the 1/3 of the actual times developing the game and 2/3 the time thinking and adding random sh*t to confuse the hell out of you ahahaha
@@noux yeah hahahah well no one complains about the random sh*t they added its very very entertaining no cap, after both endings took me about 30-40 hours i could of had another 20 to spend with this and probably around 10 more to get all the achievements i missed during my playthroughs uwu

I’d bet that the developers used the majority of their time on polish rather than actual development ahahaha. The amount of details and secrets are insane.
There are so many great heavy Omori lines, like Mari’s good bye little brother scene in headspace or the gut wrenching dialogue from Omori at the end..
But when Mari calmly says “Keeping up with things isn’t so easy” it broke my heart the most.

With some logic, If we hanged sunny from the ceiling at the same position Mari was, probably his legs or arms wouldnt even reach the table that is in front of the image, Mari is just extremely tol or Sunny is extremely smol

Actually, Mari(not Hellmari or Something) mirror jumpscare doesnt scared me or made unconfortable , that made me think that she still watch Sunny and really miss her brother

I actually think at 3:05 that it was never even scary to begin with when Sunny looked through the mirror and saw a very tall Mari reminding him of how he robbed everyone of their happiness and succumbing to the intricate lies he had created. It was rather an attempt by Ghost Mari(not the hell Spawns inside Sunny's head) to say in the mirror (even though we never see her face) that even though he pushed her hanged her and left to rot near the tree she never harbored any resentment and that she understood that Sunny didn't mean to push her off and it was an accident. I think in the aftermath of her death Ghost Mari understood that she pushed him too far for him to do something he didn't want to achieve and that led her to her own death and it's all because of her own perfectionist attitude that doomed her in the first place. Realizing this Mari wanted to apologize In the cutscenes(through the piano) that she was sorry for pushing him on the brink and that she has forgiven him and in the end even though she is not with sunny physically she will be there spiritually and that he needs to forgive himself which did only happened once before sunny plunged himself into hallucinations and nightmares of different Mari's not realizing that Mari did infact visited him to stop Sunny from beating himself more and convincing him to accept that she was gone and that he needed to move on and be happy. That's how I interpret it
So glad that Hero's dialogue is proof that this instance wasn't a hallucination, or at least dropped the chance a lot due to having to be a shared hallucination. I love deriving good feelings from game evidence

Thats what i think too, but its really doubtable, im pretty sure not. In the real world where sunny lives, there is no current proof that actual magic or ghosts excist. it is all in sunny's head, and the jumpscares/hallicunations are a way of himself scaring/(hurting) him because he thinks its all his fault for mari's death and everyone suffered because of that. Hero COULD just be really missing Mari and hallucinating when he used to play the piano but the fact that hero banged in at the EXACT SAME TIME sunny DECIDED to go inside also goes counter that fact. i guess its a detail we will never learn about haha

If you look at the very next Hellmari mirror scare, shes only a little bit taller than Sunny (look at their shoulders) That would be her actual height.

I think Mari is actually that tall, and not only tall, but in width too, Mari is behind him and literally her arms can be seen, sure Sunny may be malnourished and in a poor state but i dont believe that Mari arms are literally at the side of Sunny arms, the proportion of Mari Body is like bigger than Sunny.

Tall mari at 3:03 didn't really scare me, as it kinda... felt strangely heartwarming in a sort of "Big sister is still watching over you" kinda way, though maybe im just weird.
Man this game hits hard, the ones where Mari showed up made me feel nauseous.
Personally, whenever Mari shows up, I would feel this tingling sensation in my chest, almost like anxiety or fear but I can’t quite explain it.

The first red flag for me was how the background suddenly changed into the playground. Then, before I could even analyze what was happening, the mirrors did me dirty.
@@noux in my case it just happened randomly out of the blue in the deep well. never spammed it, it just happened unexpectedly since i always used the mirror everytime i saw it
