I've traveled father on a full size bike, but never a mini-125cc motorcycle and there is something addicting about it. We decided to ride from Houston to Austin and back, about a 200 mile ride each way on mostly back roads. We encountered curious people, traffic jams, hills and even had to ride on a 75mph highway.

This is so cool. I've been debating getting a Grom for driving back and forth to work.
Casey Aaron They are fun, but in stock form can't go highway speeds
Enjoyed the ride! Thanks.
Made that trip a few times, never on a Grom but looks fun! I enjoyed the video!
Thank you! Groms are awesome.
You two are so cool! Awesome trip.
Love it in Austin! Lived there almost 5 years
I drive a Honda PCX 150 that I love. I wonder how the 2 compare. One thing you said I disagree with. I see much more in a car. I have to watch he road more closely on a bike. Be careful as things happen quick on a bike. Great video!
Looks like a great trip and say a lot of fun on the Grom! Thinking about taking a 2000 mile round trip on my Grom in May from Ireland to the South of Spain.
That would be a seriously epic iron butt ride!
+chixwithtrix Did it last year on a Z750 and 700miles the first day. Was an amazing experience and loved every second. Want to see how much more of a challenge it would be on a Grom sticking to national roads :)
Sounds fun don’t forget the go pro
sick video. i just got a grom i love it. yours is so quiet comapred to mine i kinda wish mine had stock exhaust.. but the loud sound of mine does help with traffic.
jdogg661420 Mine is no longer quiet haha
that's it your video convinced me to buy the 2018 ones as a daily driver !
I currently live in ny and might go visit family in dallas tx that could be brutal
dylan wilkes yeah I wouldn't suggest that haha
Lake travis is nice. Cars and coffee all the time lol
Looked like an awesome trip! I need to do more adventuring.
It was incredibly fun
HOLY SHIT NO WAY. Subbed. You FUCKING legend.
hi I'm an aussie and I love my 2017 grom. heard about a guy riding around Australia on a grom . but I cant find any info on the trip, BUT WHAT A TRIP.....
red bitter123 That would be pretty epic
Hey chix, your videos are awesome. I just wanna know, do you need motorcycle license to ride grom on streets?
Thank you! And yes, you absolutely need to have a motorcycle license to ride any plated motorcycle on the street.
I road my sons Grom for a solid hour my azz was sore!
Great vid!
How long did that take you in total, one way from Houston to Austin (not Lake Travis)? I'm planning on going on similar road trips with my wife and she's going to be on a Grom, so it's nice to see that it's very much possible even on a tiny bike like the Grom!
If you ever go back to the Austin area on your Grom I recommend you taking a trip down to Wimberley in the Hill Country. It's an awesome ride as long as you stay off the I-35 and do back roads only (I recommend going via Driftwood). Wimberley itself is a really nice and funky little town with good places to eat and things to see. It's about an hour one way.
Thanks for the tips! I used to live in Austin and yes, Wimberley has some cool places to visit.
The trip to Austin probably took about 5 or so hours. That's with food and gas stops so not bad. Really fun to do!
+chixwithtrix We're going to take it slow and make stops for food and gas and stretching our legs just like you guys did, I think that's the best/only way to do it on a small bike. It's about the journey just as much as it's about the destination when you're riding a bike. It's an adventure.
Thank you for the reply! Now I'm off to watch part two of this video :)
+mannydcbianco Exactly, riding small bike on the back roads let's you take in so much more of the world. A truly great experience.
What kind of MPG are you guys getting, running them almost flat out like that over long distances? Are those small diameter tires starting to 'square off' from all the flat and level riding in town and on this trip or are they holding up well? How many miles on yours so far total now?
Haven't calculated the milage, but probably 70-90mpg still. Tires are fine, still have good profile since the bike doesn't weigh much or have any power. I have a little over 900 miles on mine now.
+chixwithtrix All the little tricks you have to use to ride them, like drafting, etc. (and the fun it is doing so) reminds me so much of a 'mini-DRZ-400SM'. If they come out with either version of those Scrambler Prototypes I have seen photos of floating around (particularly the Silver one) I afraid I ability to resist will be crushed and I will absolutely have to get one - or a pair, to ride with friends! Thanks
for the responses as usual!
I make this drive a lot in my truck. Im jealous. I have been looking at a grom...interesting stuff
I love the Groms...my big bike is for sale, but the Grom isn't!
I noticed you wore surgical gloves under your leather gloves, how did that work for you? Did it insulate you better in the cold weather?
Yes it did, cut the wind down
i just did this trip back in November on a 1991 Dr350s and I did the same thing with the gloves lol but i did another pair of the nitrile over my riding gloves
It is a fun route right?! I've tried the gloves over, works, but takes too long to get over my gloves.
I really, truly enjoyed this video!!!✌✌✌💪💪💪
have you rode to fredericksburg yet? that would be fun. back roads through Johnson city
Always wanted to make that trip too. Would love to go visit Enchanted Rock
How many times did you have to stop to refuel the bike to make it to Austin? That bike holds only one gallon of gas.
We filled up about 3 times I'd say
chixwithtrix holy crap that's about 80mpg
I've been there it's pretty awesome
What exhaust did the faster grom have on it? Have you tried any aftermarket seats?
FMF fulle exhaust, haven't tried aftermarket seats yet
+chixwithtrix awesome thanks! I'm looking at buying a Grom any advice or thoughts?
+Zac Bartholomew It will get faster as it breaks in....and don't expect to be able to safely go on the highway stock. Intake mod helps a lot, so does a filter.
I live in The Woodlands, need to do a ride like this. Awesome What was the route yall took
Can't really remember for sure...Hempstead, Bellville, La Grange, Austin from the south
@@ChixLife Hey thanks for the reply. Still riding? Yeah that route sounds legit.
@@briarfox637 Nah, no riding for us. Still have the Groms though.
@@ChixLife Ahh that's too bad. Why'd you guys stop? If you don't mind.
@@briarfox637 check the channel, big life changes basically. Lost/quit jobs with COVID, started a business, have no time, do watersport.
How did it do going 50 + mph for 30 plus minuets at a time? It didnt over heat or anything?
Austin Wallace Groms are awesome!
Do u have to pull over every 20 miles to let it cool off?
Austin Wallace Nope, never got hot
No way just Intake and exhaust makes that big difference
nightmare in action Yup, super choked from factory
Anyone know what the mpg is going constant full throttle on a GROM?
Watch out for crew cab trucks if you are on a small bike. Especially if it's lifted. Drivers of those abominations think they own the road, and probably don't care if they run over you. I don't own a Grom (yet) but I have a Yamaha XT225 and a Royal Enfield Bullet. Top cruising speed on both is about 60 mph. I am constantly being tailgated by crew cab trucks, even in the right lane.
Yes, the perils of being in a truck state
Great way to put yourself in a bad situation riding to the right of the white line. Glad y'all made it though. Stay safe.
Try riding on the actual road in Texas, you'll get run over and cut off. Is what it is, our Groms are faster now and we ride in the highway. Can't be a bitch.
+chixwithtrix I hear ya. People aren't real nice here in Missouri either. I knew a guy who ate a van that was parked on the shoulder for lunch. Got pushed off of the highway by a semi. Just something thats stuck in my mind.
+Joe Buckner Yikes, tough break. Stay safe out there.
Damn, straights roads everywhere... that must have been boring sometimes.I had a grom 2 years ago, it's super fun to ride, but on 10km straights roads ? Meh
cfjfjfgj It's about the adventure, not dragging a knee. I've had R1s, S1000rr, supermotos...and sold them all, but still have the Grom
Dont worry i get your point, i get the whole adventure thing, but it's a shame that the roads didnt looked that fun, that's all. I am actually planning a trip around Europe for the next April, and it's sure as hell i wont do 21000km of straights roads. (I've thought about buying a grom, but unfortunately you can't put enough luggages on it, but that would have been fun, for sure)
u got balls girl. just theoretical balls I mean (hopefully)
+TheHappyRider Yes large metaphorical balls!
fail... ya i ment metaphorical
I wanna groma (in finland it is different name) or dax... but gromas are tol expensive and so are real dax:s those chinese dax:s are cheap but i want real one.
grom*
Yeah I think they are called MSX125s overseas?
Suomi mainittu, torilla tavataan!
very nice adventure trip :) love this video :)
Thanks, can't wait to do it again
based on body weight, what is the Max, a person should weigh to ride one of these?
dcijams No idea honestly, really depends on how fast you want to go. My fiance and I two-up and we weigh 140lbs and 180lbs respectively.
I push 280, @ 6'4" tall/ reason I ask, I'm looking for a bike to do the Key West to Prudhoe Bay ALaska challenge next year. the last guy did it on a 250 honda, in 17 days. he had a co-rider & stayed in motels. I plan to do it in 14 days all camping. but on a 125cc bike
honda sells a cl 125, but not in america.
5558 miles one way, but I will also be riding the bike back to Florida
dcijams It is technically doable I suppose...but the safety and body wear and tear is very iffy. The Grom has trouble going up hills at sea level with a 150lb rider. Imagine in the mountains with no air available for the engine to make power. You'd get run over or break down more likely. The bike has 12" wheels that make it more darty than a larger motorcycle at speed so if the roads aren't great that could cause issues. And it is small so being so tall would make the ride pretty uncomfortable. The small framed 125cc Grom isn't really comparable to the full sized 125ccs more popular in Europe.
why is his grom faster? what mod diod he do to it
Air filter, full exhaust
+chixwithtrix how much faster did it make the bike? and is it expensive?
+LizardMane Really depends on your weight. It made his about 5mph faster. Google is your friend for looking up the many exhaust and intake options.
can a grom take me to cali?
Some people have 20k miles on theirs, whether you are able to such a ride is up to you.
There were people who rode their grom from California to Tennessee for the smokey mountain crawl. It takes a lot of planning from what I saw, because of gas and avoiding interstates
sounds like some great fun! I wonder if the seat is comfortable and soft.
+Kenny G Choonit it's ok. Corbin makes an aftermarket seat that people SWEAR by but it's upwards of 200$ and you have to send your seat to them to have it modified
Drew Carter That seat is over $300 now 😳 crazy but I'm sure it's worth it.
Your aren't drafting, lol. You'd have to be a foot away from his back tire for it to make a lick of difference.
Don't be ignorant. It makes a difference because any wind blocked by an object in front of you helps lower the wind resistance on your body/bike. Close proximity only makes it even easier, but you can drop into a vehicle's slip stream quite a ways back. How else would the Grom keep speed and accelerate easier when behind someone. Fairies?
chixwithtrix Having worked extensively with a wind tunnel, I can assure you that at the distances you were at, you'd just be in his wake.
The speed is likely a combination of environment (wind, grade, etc.) and placebo.
Now a trailer truck would be a different story, but the plastic flaps companies are adding to the backs of trailers would mitigate that considerably.
+anishannayya1 Hop on a Grom and follow another Grom. It helps, I don't care what the internetisms say.
How fast will it go?
Kenneth Hudson 65-70mph
How come his seemed faster?
Longobardi Lounge It was, mine had stock exhaust
