Watched this video like 3 months ago without ever owning anything more than a dog. I've got 2 separate dart frog tanks now and absolutely loving them. Thanks for the video and the new addiction man.
Found out today that Bella & Edwards son is a keeper of dart frogs 😁 Have my vivarium/paludarium/terrarium set up, all i need are dart frogs and i'm living on YT right now trying too find out what kind suits me the best ;-) thanks for the great info! Liked & subscribed!!
Hey Issac, I really like your channel. Your setups are amazing, you’re well spoken and Well informed. Keep up your hard work, this is Alan, greetings from Riverside in Southern California.
I'm currently working on a 40 gallon bioactive and I'm getting 2 species of dart frogs and some clown or hour glass tree frogs for it as well I started the scape for the ground yesterday and I couldn't be more excited
This is one of the most useful vids I’ve seen in a while thank you so much! I’m getting a Dendrobates tinctorius Oyapok but I was maybe looking into your dart frogs considering how cool they look.
Yeah green sipaliwini are so cool, they are really variable in colour as well meaning you can have yellow, green or blue together! I like oyapocks too though!
Thanks for posting this, Isaac. I’ve just bought a pair of Terribilis and I’m enjoying discovering all the Dart Frog videos and joining all the FB groups. Exciting times, as it’s all pretty new to me. Great video, mate👍
I'm inbetween a reed frog or a dart frog, i got a 12x12x12, and I'm still waiting for my plants to come in. Otherwise, I'm just trying to visualize how I want it to look. I'd really like a paludarium, so I'm leaning towards reed frogs. Great video.
Hey from Texas! I have a few questions for you. What type of plants do you recommend in the frogs environment? How much does a system like yours with the suggestions you mentioned cost? And lastly, how long did it take to get their environment set up, like were your plants saplings and then you allowed the frogs in the enclosure or were the plants well grown already?
Hi mate, Was just wondering where you got your plants from? I'm from Wales so if you got them locally, chances are I'll have similar shops too. Awesome set up by the way!
Some of them were from eBay, but the majority of them were unfortunately from a website that has been taken down :/. Your best bet is looking a lot online as there’s a lot more to choose from
Should be one species per tank, and one locale per tank. If you keep tinctorius in the same enclosure they have to be the same morph and you can’t mix them together. For example you can’t mix an azureus with a citronella, even though they’re the same species (dendrobates tinctorius). And you also shouldn’t mix different species because they can and will make hybrids. :)
You have a really nice setup. I was thinking about getting a few of the blue poisonous dart frogs. The only thing was I read online that it said it’s okay when they are younger but you may have to separate them later. I thought it was okay to keep frogs in groups. So, I’m confused.
Yeah, you can keep them together when they are younger but when they are older they may fight in a group so keep them separately or in pairs. *If you raise babies up together they are less likely to fight when they are adults*
Do you think I could put a Venus fly trap in a dart frog enclosure? I know they will def have access to flys but I don't know if the fly trap could be dangerous for the frogs
Hi, your videos have been brilliant! (: I've spent so long believing dart frog care was so complex, when really they seem to have a very similar setup to my crested geckos! I'm seriously considering looking for some, after seeing your videos on care. Could I ask, how vocal are these frogs? (especially at night)? Only asking cause my pet setups are all in my bedroom, and if they'd be singing all night, I might reconsider for my early-morning work shift's sakes hahahaha... 😂 Thanks again for the brilliant information mate 🐸👍
Depends what species you get but dart frogs usually only call in the day, I keep dendrobates tinctorius which only make a faint buzzing sound, but they’re are other louder species like Leucs and phyllobates terribilis. Dendrobates tinctorius is the best option if you don’t want anything loud! :)
@@isaacswift8950 Thats brilliant to know! I was eyeing up tincs anyway tbh, so thats perfect. Thanks so much for the info 😊👍 Keep up the great content, love to see it
There would be no point, I can’t usually see my frogs at night anyway as they hide when it gets dark and I don’t think it would be good for their eyes so I wouldn’t
Hello, i founded very instructive all the info in your video, but my english is not so good and i don't understood very well what kind of led are you using. Can you send me a description or a link where i can found?. Thanks you very much.
Yeah so the best options would be de-ionised water, bottled water and rainwater but if you only have tap water you can get the Zoomed Reptisafe conditioner (it’s blue) to treat the tap water. :)
@@isaacswift8950 ok thanks bro cos I be seeing videos of ppl spraying and misting their terrariums wit bottle sprayers was wondering if it had to be conditioned water
@@isaacswift8950 I also got a question, will the reptisafe water conditioner effect my moss? Because I'm planning to use distilled water for my moss and will distilled water be harmful for my darts?
Hey again, just a quick question - where do you get your cultures from? I've tried two different places but the flies seem to die out pretty quick and the substance at the bottom dries up and the stench is horrific. Both times neither cup has looked like yours regarding the fly quantity. Cheers.
Calski T on eBay if you look at ‘advanced husbandry’ company fruit flies they last me a while. You can chose the size of flies you want etc. If not there are kits you can buy to make your own and these are pretty good :)
Are you housing a different breed with a different breed of dart frog? Your only supposed to have 1 breed in its own tank and the other in another tank its a different breed
No they’re all the same species, dendrobates tinctorius green sipaliwini, they are very variable in colour and pattern though just like all dendrobates tinctorius - but yes I agree you should never mix localities of the same species OR different species unless you know what you’re doing.
Thanks for this video - I've read that dart frogs are perhaps the smartest frog out there, with ability to remember various hiding places across a wide terrain. If humans ever go extinct along with the rest of the mammals then dart frogs may be only game in town in terms of terrestial animals with any sort of potential intelligence that could one day evolve further into being even more intelligent. With climate change all bets are off, so it is at least possible that mammals including humans go extinct, and in a few tens or hundreds of thousands of years, dart frogs are doing their own youtube channels. :)
Cat Young depends on the species, dendrobates tinctorius should be kept in sexed pairs ideally or alone, but there are others that you can keep communally
Isaac Swift I watched the whole video. But in short terms. Is the only care really feeding and supplements and humidity. Also can they Cohab with mourning geckos ?
@@finndrennan541 ummm I think so? If you follow everything in this video you should be fine. And yeah you can cohabitate mourning geckos with dart frogs, I have some in there with mine :)
Isaac Swift Also what is there lifespan. Cause I read a lot of sources and they are all different and. Do the mourning geckos do fine with them and do they eat the extra fruit flies. And do mourning geckos need heat or is room temperature good

Hey bro, I just bought a dart frog from reptile expo 2 days ago, and he's just been in one same spot not doing anything and he or she went crackhead mode and got kinda scrawny, does that mean he's stress or unhealthy or both??? Cos I dropped 75$ on the lil guy cos it be a waste of money that went down in the drain if he's sick
The one that you can see in there is one that I left when I went away and would have been able to feed them as usual, it’s not ideal so stick to just feeding them normally
No definitely not, they have completely different enclosure requirements and I’m pretty sure a chameleon would try and eat anything that moves and can fit in its mouth haha

How often do you put springtails and ispods in the tank? Is it just a one time thing or do you continue to buy them
