Freddie You brought the Hard Edge to The Outlaws... Hughie, Billie , and Freddie . There was never a better guitar trio in Rock and Roll History Never thats a Fact Rest in Peace
Playin to win is sonically THE BEST production by the Outlaws!!! "Cry some more" is a masterpiece!! Plus Long Gone on EOTS is a killer Freddie song!!! This ol boy hasn't overlooked the later Outlaw years of late 70's early 80's. Great stuff!!!!
Thanks buddy! And thank you fo0r supporting the Florida Guitar Army!
Michael!! God Bless You and your dedication to the cause!!! Long live Southern Rock!!!!
Thanks so much! That means a lot to me!!
This is great footage live i Germany? I want to see the who show?
Awesome!!!!!! Freddie!!! You Rocked back in the Outlaw days!! MichaelB!!! Thanks for all you do for Southern Rock!!!!!
Thanks a bunch buddy!
What a legend. The outlaws are the reason I play guitar. Thank you for all the great songs you, and the guys gave us.
I saw Freddie with the Outlaws in Atlanta at the Fox theater in 77 . One of the greatest shows I've ever seen. Loved Freddie's solo record. Still play it today. One of the great musicians for sure. Great interview
Eye of the Storm is KILLER!!!!!! Top to bottom!!! Billy shines. Monster guitar sounds and solos!!!!!!!
Thanks buddy
Freddie’s song I Hope You Don’t Mind from Bring ‘Em Back Alive is one of the strongest cuts of not just that album, but of the entire Outlaws catalogue. It’s a shame that a studio version wasn’t included on any subsequent Outlaws release. It should have been on Playin’ to Win and released as a single, and one can only imagine how it would have hit with Mutt Lange’s production. Maybe it was cut and left off. If anyone knows of a studio version of it floating around, please share. Great to hear these stories from Freddie Salem, an outstanding addition and contributor to a phenomenal band in a magical time that was the 1970s.
Man it's SOOOO fn good to see Freddie after all this time and hear these stories. They are the reason I play and have been trying to cop their licks in the 70's, and still to this day throw on Bring It Back Alive, it's as fresh and a masterclass as much today as it was when it came out. I LOVED Freddie's fire and voice, such a compliment to Billy And Hughie. Thanks for getting this interview. I stumbled onto your site while watching other Outlaws stuff.
Fabulous interview with Freddie....What a great career. Makes old "Road Dogs" like me miss the "old days." God...how many times I've covered his parts on Outlaws tunes. An Artist of the highest order.
Thanks Mark!
Freddie was a class act for The OUTLAWS. His vocals and guitar style were unique and fit The Outlaws style perfect! Nice to hear his past and look forward to anything he may produce in the future. Freddie, no one, absolutely no one would now recognize you without the 'stache' and the hair. Still lookin' good though ! ! !
Thanks for your comments! I will forward to Freddie.
My blues band played a lot at Freddie's bar in Highland Square in Akron in the early 90's. We were Killer Instinct that later became Wanda Hunt and Killer Instinct. Freddie was a cool dude, always a really nice guy. I had heard he played with the Outlaws but I had no idea what a guitar legend he was. Great interview!
Thanks for sharing Jeff! Great band names! Killer Instinct sounds like punk. LOL.
Great interview with Freddie Salem! I just learned of the Rockpalast '81 concert recently and have been playing it every day! What a group of musicians! I've been a fan of Hughie, Freddie and Billy since I first heard 'Bring It Back Alive' back in '81 (I'm 58 Lol) and Ive been a fan since. I try to play around on guitar a lil but I can't hold a light to Hughie, Freddie and Billy! Great musicians and a great great Band! 😁🎸
Freddie! Hello, old man. Great to hear your voice.
Wonderful Interview. Thank you. Good to see Freddie again.
Thanks a bunch Mike!
Hey Michael just ran into this interview and it was awesome.
I was born and raised in Tampa so naturally I was into the Outlaws. I worked at a restaurant with Hughies sister. She once asked me if I would like free tickets to her brothers band who was playing at a local bar called The Whipping Post. I sked her who they were. She said the Outlaws. I had never heard of them and turned them down. A year later I was begging for free tickets lol. She obliged with back stage passes to Outlaws and Molly Hatchet New Years Eve at Lakeland Civic Center 2 years in a row. It was awesome.
Then my wife met Hughie when she bought a pair of Doberman puppies from him.
Good memories
Awesome show! This captures the legendary guitar army in all their glory. Great interview with Freddie. So happy to see him! All the best
Thank you Pat!
Saw the Florida Guitar Army with Freddie as my first Concert with Foghat in NY Back in the Day !
In switzerland outlaws opened for molly hatchet!!! Both bands first time in zurich switzerland 83. Was at the show at volkshaus. 🤘
Thanks for doing this interview. More pieces of the puzzle that I hadn’t heard before.
Oh my God Freddie Salem so underrated loved him in the outlaws the Freddie and the Wildcats first album was killer I Hopis going to put out something soon Long overdue every album he played on with the outlaws and every show that I’ve seen him with the outlaws was unbelievable and I’ve seen the outlaws many times even before Freddy join the band
Two of my favorite dark horse bands outlaws and thin lizzy
Great interview. Love it. Bless you Fred.
Thanks Stephen!
Absolutely awesome band!
Great interview. Nice to hear Freddie and his fond memories of Hughie and Billy.
Thanks T!
Great interview! I grew up on southern rock and saw the Outlaws several times in the 70’s, early eighties. (And then the lineup with Hughie and Chris Hicks in the 90’s.) Love Freddie and happy to see him doing so well all these years later! This was 3 years ago so have you heard from him lately?
Now I can dig this.
Bring 'Em Back Alive was / is one of my favorite live records ever. I wonder why he's not involved with the current Outlaws line up?
because Henry is.
Come Back To canton,Ohio For a Show.
Freddie is great Hughie is a guitar beast as well
cOOOOL fOOOtage!! never saw this before. I want the footage from that whole concert. Is it avaiable? lol D'Shnib Souther Fried North Jersey Boy

Great interview!
Can someone please help me get this??/ I even reached out to Freddie to Zero Avail?? Freddie Salem & Lone Wolf - Black Cloud Rising
@@davebellomo4912 Is that the new album? If so not out yet....
Many Thanks!
I just discovered Freddie Salem and the Wildcats! Holy shit... this album rips from top to bottom. I’m embarrassed to say I was never familiar with this gem, nor Freddie’s talents with the Outlaws. I always preferred Molly Hatchet and never followed the Outlaws on a regular basis. I recommend everybody find this gem from 1982 and crank it!
Also love FS vocals on Miracle Man off EOTS Also w a monster solo in it as well!!!
We agree! Great vocals AND guitar!
Great interview and thanks for that. Freddie was wrong thou when he claimed that the 1st Gold Record for the Outlaws was the Live album. The 1st Outlaws Record went Gold in Sept 1977. The Live album went Gold in Sept 1979. Ghost Riders was the 3rd and final Gold Record they received. If anybody is interested I have photos of 3600 of My RIAA Gold Record Collection on the Facebook page RIAA AWARD COLLECTORS. Lots of Outlaws, MTB, ARS, SKYNYRD, Hatchet, Allmans, Blackfoot, Rossington Collins Band Gold Records including some presented to Band Members (Berry Oakley, Robert Nix, Artimus Pyle, Leon Wilkeson, Banner Thomas) and Major Record Execs like Phil Walden/Capricorn, Clive Davis/Arista.
I'm sure it is a shot at Henry.
No Hughie, No Billy, No Outlaws.
The current Outlaws has been reduced to a cover tribute band .
Not quite bro, Henry Paul is keeping it alive. Just saw them in New Hampshire it was awesome
Henry is trying
nothing less
nothing more
Wrecking crew were way overrated. The Outlaws man for man were much more talented.
Chris, are you really that ignorant? Wrecking Crew "way overrated". Go back under your rock.
@@rubicon-oh9km I guess I am ignorant by your standards. Since with the exception of Glen Campbell I think they are pretty average players, They were AM radio players. Simple and cliche.
Freddy was a poor replacement for Henry Paul. Covering an Elvis Costello song? Not southern rock.
