Thanks for your great range of reviews. Also the insight you provide into the Sigma Macro 105 is really powerful, particularly the demonstration of the depth of field - love the examples, same with the stack of the flower. Stunning. I’m curious if you could provide your perspective on how the lens stacks up against the native Leica when used in portrait and landscape photography. I recall from Canon FD lenses that the Canon 100mm Macro could keep up with “normal” primes (even L lenses). So I’m wondering how the $800 Sigma Art compares to an APO Summicron-SL 90mm ASPH.
Hi Math, great reviews and technical knowledge, thank you! This does indeed sound like a fantastic option for Macro on the SL. I have been using an APO Macro Elmarit R 100mm f2.8 with an Elpro adapter on both my Leica M and SL for negative scanning for a few years and have found the quality of this Macro setup truly fantastic!
Thank you for the review. I wish you had an affiliate link in the description so I could support your channel while also making the purchase. Keep up the great work!
Thank you for this most helpful video. I am pleasantly surprised by the Sigma's image quality and versatility in combination with the SL2, and it is a lens I would seriously consider purchasing.
Really nice video. FYI it is possible to get 1:1 with the Leica M 135mm plus Elpro 52 close adapter with amazing results. Cost is on a different league though...
I enjoy your videos and they are very informative, good work! I have a question. When you shot and created the panorama landscape picture using 5 photos taken in portrait orientation, how is it you are able to get such deep depth of field in those photos shooting at f2.8?
That depends on what you need. If you don't need AF for your macro - with adapters there are plenty of options that give 1:1 or even more. There are also smart AF adapters from EOS, but I'm not sure how good they are. Though I don't shoot macro, I have two sort-of-macro lenses, one is Panasonic's L-mount 24-105 (magnification is not the best, only 1:2, but AF is really good). Another one is old Macro-Switar 50/1.9 which AFAIR have magnification of 1:1.5 or something like that (minimal focusing distance is 28cm). If you want, feel free to send me an email or something, as I live close to Zurich and I can temporary give you some of the lenses (I have sort of a collection of 50mm for Leica-M for example, Macro-Switar I've mentioned with adapter to Leica-M, etc) if you'll do a review on them.
i use the Leica TL 60mm macro, amazing lens... file size may be a bit small on the SL2s, its fantastic on the SL2 and the CL. Oh, forgot that it is very expensive compared to non leica lenses, about 3K usa.
I have the Sigma 85 1.4 but its not macro. But I have the MC-21 EF- L adapter so I can use my Zeiss 100mm f/2.0 Makro Plannar for macro and because its f2.0 and very sharp its a great portrait lens and low light short telephoto.
I've had this lens for a couple of months. I think it is a good lens and I am happy I bought it, however, in my experience this lens will not produce a "Leica Look" if that is important to you. So it does a very good job but will not yield the optical characteristics of a Summilux or Telyt.
2 Photo's taken with my SL2, one with the Leica 24-90 mm, only cropped in Capture One, one with the Sigma 105mm 1:2.8 Dg DN Macro. Unedited photos.app.goo.gl/CcMFJYwJB8a2p5EW6
Schiesst sich mit den SIGMA L-Objektiven LEICA nicht ins eigene Knie? Wer will da noch die überteuerten Leica Linsen kaufen, wenn man da kaum noch einen Unterschied sieht???
L-Mount Alliance means that L-Lenses also not from Leica fit SL camera bodies :) Next weeks I will post my impressions on the Panasonic standard zoom L-Mount on the Leica SL2, again a very good lens not from Leica but fully working on the SL2.
Just got my SL2. This maybe my first lens.
Happy to see this video, i placed the rental for this and the 100-400 on Friday. It will be here Monday and I can’t wait to use it!

The R macro elmarit 100 with the R to L adaptor is SPECTACULAR . . . and with the in-body stabilisation, I am doing incredible handheld macro work!

Thanks for that insight to the Sigma lens, until now I have been using an old Tamron 90mm 2.2 totally manual with excellent results.
Your praise is high praise indeed. And those cat’s eyes! They’re way too nice too be used on the roads.
Really nice video.

Another great, informative video!
Thank you.

Thank you for the video. Do you think you can do focus stacking while using the multishot mode? Thanks

Sigma has really put out some terrific L-Mount lenses. Only one still outstanding is a 70-200mm L-Mount Lens.
Nice lens! 👍
Thank you.

Nice one. The Sigma Art 70 is also good and cheaper. Goes to 1:1 too.
I'm thinking why Leica just arent making macro lenses? Why is the SL range so lacking?
👌🏼
I see GFX100 there 👍🏼☺️
