    Came over from your “did you know gaming” episode. Your channel seems cool! I just finished a replay of Metroid Prime. Thought I wasn’t gonna be able to finish it, but i persisted (and used guides for that fetch quest at the end), and won it! It was such an amazing game!

    As for me, this is one of my favorite games of all time (only beat out by Xenoblade 1 and is tied with Fallout New Vegas for 2nd Place) and it was thanks to SomeCallMeJohnny's original 2010 review that led me to become the fan of this series I hold so dear to me.

    The rivalry between Halo and Metroid was incredibly fierce at the time of release, at least in my isolated corner of the gaming world. My friends all had mostly hopped over to Halo (which goes without saying was its own incredibly influential and amazing series), but I was stubbornly planted in the Metroid camp at the time.
    I got this game as a bundle deal with my Gamecube and was immediately sucked in. I still remember the day I got it, I booted it up on a dark evening and younger me got spooked in those opening few sections and decided to head to bed with everyone else rather than stay up and keep playing.
    Still one of the most immersive gaming experiences I've ever had, Retro absolutely knocked it out of the park with this game.

    Metroid Prime is not just my favorite Metroid game, but also probably my favorite game of all time. Honestly, the immersion, the selling point from a certain perspective, absolutely captured me when I first played it. I was already familiar with the hunt for the artifacts thanks to Johnny's review, but even during my first playthrough I didn't really mind. Probably partially because I already knew what I was getting into but...
    Ah man. I first played it on gamecube during my middle school years, when I was still pretty new to Metroid, I forget what I played first but I wanna say it was me emulating Metroid Zero Mission on my Ipad and playing it during school. My friend had a copy of Prime somehow and asked me if I wanted to try it out. I was immediately hooked. I enjoyed Zero Mission (even if playing it on a touch screen was awful), but Prime was the game that made me a fan of the series. Hearing a single track from this game's soundtrack takes me all the way back to my first time playing it and it just makes me want to get lost in Tallon IV again. I'm now in college on my final year and now have played pretty much every game, and this game still is so beautiful to me. Prime is definitely my favorite of the trilogy, but I really hope that 4... whenever we get it... will have the same amount of magic that the first one did. I still like the other 2, but 1 is such a wonderfully unique experience and aside from the artifacts, gets the mix of exploration/world connectivity, action, and immersion just right.
    When the Prime Trilogy got announced for the Wii U I flipped my lid. Best $20 I've ever spent.
    I've been binging your Metroid videos after seeing your DYKG episode - I'm really enjoying your content! Keep up the good work! Looking forward to your Dread video in particular - game's fantastic!

    I feel like the keys for the final area could've been handled in a similar way to the "mystery items" from zero mission where they could open new areas and paths before their final purpose. Also it needs an area based check list for finding items when you get to the end of the game because not knowing which areas you've missed an upgrade in is infuriating

    • @Wayneisboss
      @Wayneisboss  2 роки тому +3

      Ah shoot, that actually brings up a great point I forgot to add to my Prime 2 review (which I'm working on right now lol) But yeah it would have been great if the Prime games had incorporated the way maps worked in Fusion and Zero Mission, where the grid would have a dot indicating that an item was present in that room and a circle would show up once you claimed that item. Could have saved on a lot of aimless wandering

    I dropped this game several years ago after starting the Prime Trilogy on Wii because of a lack of interest (getting lost one too many times probably didn't help), but I managed to finish it for the first time (using a walkthrough...) on GameCube a couple months ago and was really surprised how much better it was than I remember. Best game in the series (sorry Super Metroid).

    Fusion: metaphor for samus’ spirit of strength and survival, not about the suit, which could be an analog for her strength solely. But samus didnt have it at full capacity. She literally was fighting her strength, samus-x. So, she is way stronger by will alone. The suit represents her strength,but isnt fully necessary to display her hunting prowess. Pretty cool. I always thought samus would be nothing without her suit. Not so. (Even considering zero mission’s end-game).

    Metroid Prime was in its best state with the initial 1.0 gamecube release
    You could perform the most sequence breaks aka getting the items out of order
    Being able to fight Thardus without the Thermal Visor and with the Plasma Beam for example
    Also the unused "IceBoss" and "Meta" Kraid are menacing

    Metroid did NOT have a rough transition to 3D. A Metacritic score of 97 and a handful of Game of the Year awards makes this not only one of the best games on the GameCube, but one of the best games ever made.
    Not bad for a game that made even the most loyal fans nervous before its release.

    This was the first metroid game i ever touched. It was on a demo screen in a store and I'd go there while my mom shopped for food every friday. I'd replay the first part of the game over and over, i loved it so much. It was then that I got a GBA and Metroid Fusion (the first metroid game i owned and played through). And when christmas came my parents blessed me with a gamecube and metroid prime (the first metroid game i played, but the second one i owned and beat). Such a great franchise. I played all the metroid games after I was done with Prime and Fusion. (EXCEPT for Other M.... FUCK Other M #NotMySamus)

    Just finished it for the first time, wow compared to three hours I usually spend first time playing 2D Metroids this took me hefty 12 hours.
    Mostly because these twelve artifacts can blow my butt. Some of that stuff is so obscure (like the tower one) it sucks out all the fun of methodical 3d exploration and made me whip out a guide.
    Also I tried but almost dropped the Wii version, the controls killed me at Phazon Mines where I couldn't adequately lock onto space pirates. Almost went back to GameCube version but instead brought up PrimeHack and it's GLORIOUS. Finally, Metroid Prime with modern control schemes and it works beautifully!
    And my right wrist is happy.

    I tried playing the Gamecube version a couple of years ago, and while I definitely enjoyed it, I didn’t like the controls. They felt way too clunky and I hate how you can’t control the arm canon separate from the camera
    I really hope the rumored Prime Trilogy Remake for Switch is true, with duel stick support please. I could get the Wii Trilogy, but I’m also not a fan of motion controls. Give me another chance with this game, I really want to like it

    I’m only one person, but here’s my opinion on your Prime series videos: I would have preferred if you stuck with the GameCube versions of these games, and then do a comparison video of the GC/Wii vs Trilogy showing the changes to the graphics and what parts of the lore they changed in the Trilogy. I mean, this is your video, and you’re completely entitled to your preference of keeping the 16:9 ratio for the video, but the thing that raised my eyebrow was my assumption that this was the only reason that you wanted to use the Trilogy footage. Again, I’m just assuming this, but I think that would be a slightly lame reason. Older fans like myself would have appreciated seeing the original aspect ratio, because I personally prefer the GC controls for Prime 1 and 2. You already have your schedule setup and your timeframe for October, which I’m seriously looking forward to, but perhaps doing the vs video would have given you more content to talk about on your channel. I’m not a content creator, so this is simply an outside perspective.
    I’m just a very passionate fan. Keep up the great work.

    • @Wayneisboss
      @Wayneisboss  2 роки тому +2

      Your perspective is certainly appreciated but don't worry, footage size wasn't the only reason I decided to stick with the Wii versions of the games this go-around, I just had to simplify my explanation in the video for the sake of brevity (I tend to ramble and I'm trying to get better control of my video length)
      One reason I stuck with this is partially because the length of these games mixed with footage file size/hunting through footage during editing/sake of sanity, I knew I'd only be able to have one playthrough for each game. Because of this, I needed to stick with the control scheme I'm the most comfortable with, which to my own surprise is via the motion controls.
      I also didn't want to miss the forest for the trees, so to speak. While I don't feel I went into enough detail for this video, I wanted to ensure my focus was primarily on the structure and design of the game beyond its control scheme. That said, I understand there's several differences between these versions of the games, and it may be worth a revisit in the future just discussing the changes made when porting the games to the Wii. Not sure when I'll be able to have that discussion but I think it would be a really interesting video in and of itself

    • @meta9492
      @meta9492 2 роки тому +1

      Actually, I'm not wrong.
      I know ow this because I got the secret ending by finishing the game with 100% items and not 100% on scans.

    • @Wayneisboss
      @Wayneisboss  2 роки тому

      @@dreadGodshand Not quite, the generic ending is acquired by obtaining less than 75% of items, the ending where she removes her helmet is with 75%-100% items collected, and the Dark Samus "True" ending is acquired by collecting 100% of the items.

      @Wayneisboss  2 роки тому

      @@dreadGodshand
      Nah, fresh save for recording the review
      That said, they were at least merciful enough to have your logbook progression carry over between playthroighs if you start a new game on a completed file. It's easy to miss some scans that can't be obtained again later in the game, so it helps when filling in the gaps.
      But yeah if you ever try to go for the secret endings, don't stress over the logbook too much. The scanning has its own merit, but it's not required
