    💥About Randy💥
    Since beginning his comedy career in Melbourne, Australia in 2005, Randy Feltface has written and performed eight solo stand-up comedy shows, released three comedy specials, played sold-out seasons in London and New York, and been nominated for Best Comedy at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He made his US television debut on NBC’s Bring The Funny in 2019 and has been invited to perform at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal on four separate occasions.
    In 2010 Randy joined forces with musical comedian Sammy J to create Ricketts Lane, which won Best Show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and went on to become a television series of the same name, airing in 2015 on ABC TV in Australia, Seeso in the US and Netflix in the UK. Randy's role in Sammy J & Randy in Ricketts Lane earned him an AACTA Award nomination for best performer in a comedy series, the first non-human performer to be recognized in this category. He opened his most recent show Modus Operandy at the Sydney Opera House as part of the 2019 Just For Laughs Festival before shows in London, Amsterdam and an extensive North American tour. Randy’s live show is a high-energy existential crisis, full of biting observations, razor-sharp crowd work, and rapid arm movements.

      Truth is not bendable over time. We're just proud and think we embody truth. Problem with truth is we can't really see it, it's too much information for our finite brains to comprehend. An ant has a better chance of understanding a human by seeing a Man's boot than we do of understanding the truth. We just see a small part of the boot and assume that's the whole person. "I know it's real! I saw it!". In reality it's just a single piece of an infinite puzzle. well, its easy to say that but, Change how? in what way? through what means?
      Knowing something is wrong and you want to fix it is the easy part. Its not really anything special to say that. Knowing how to fix it is whats hard.
      I mean this works in a comedy setting where its not really a serious thing, but as actual life advice, its hardly helpful at all. This is one of the reasons why therapy helps a lot of people because it actually helps people find tailored solutions to their various problems given their circumstances and desires.
      But yea, telling people who are unhappy to just "change" is like telling a homeless person to go buy a house so they wont be homeless anymore. Yea, thats the obvious part, the difficult part is figuring out how to actually make that a reality.

    • @Baphelon
      @Baphelon Рік тому +40

      @@eragon78 While I definitely agree with you, I do think Randy phrased it well enough to get that point across. He concedes that it may very well be the most difficult thing some people ever do, and it may take ages. It's certainly an oversimplification, but he is not wrong in saying that if you are unhappy, then something NEEDS to change. But at the end of the day, he is a funny purple puppet, not a therapist lol.

    • @eragon78
      @eragon78 Рік тому +19

      @@Baphelon well yea, thats why I gave the caveat of "This works in a comedy setting...".
      Yea, when he's just cracking jokes it lands fine because its not supposed to be some deep message on life. Its just a very simple observation.
      But my point is anyone taking this as serious life advice isnt really benefiting from it much. Its not deep at all. Obviously if something is wrong, something needs to change. Thats like the most basic analysis you can have on this subject. Its not at all the actual hard part involved with figuring out that change, and its not really deep at all.
      Thats the kinda line youd expect two high teenagers to come up with thinking theyre profound and deep when its really just common sense. again, its along the lines of saying that a homeless person should just get a job and buy a house so they wont be homeless anymore. Thats my point. It doesnt actually provide any real advice and its the most surface level analysis.
      But yea, im not saying Randy is wrong here, nor am I going after his joke. I mean his job is to be funny with some sprinkled realism in. Not to be a therapist like you said. Im not viewing what he said too deeply.
      My point instead was more on the people acting like what he said was at all profound or good life advice when he didnt even really give life advice at all. He didnt say anything that would actually help someone having trouble in these situations. They already know things need to change either about their situation or with themselves, but HOW they should change and HOW to accomplish that change is whats actually hard and what people actually need advice on. Just like telling a homeless person to get a job and buy a house is obvious to them, its HOW to get a job when theyre homeless, and HOW to save up enough money to buy a house thats hard. Thats where it actually takes effort to come up with good ideas and real life advice.
      Platitudes and Cliches arent really that helpful. Theyre always extremely generic and surface level that pretty much anybody in these situations are already aware of. Its figuring out the next few steps thats hard. Not the realization that something needs to change which is almost always just common sense.
      It just annoys me when I always see people thinking they're being deep but saying the most obvious shallow platitudes. Its always people who have done no internal analysis or thinking on these topics and think this one simple cliché is enough to solve all problems lol. Might as well just tell depressed people to stop being so sad and cheer up. Its equally as effective.

    • @hazukichanx408
      @hazukichanx408 Рік тому +7

      @@eragon78 Well, yes and no. Some people live their whole life terrified of change, and thus tolerate all manner of crap in service of maintaining the status quo, of "keeping the peace". They could be happy, make others happy, but they don't, simply because they fear the unknown, the possibility of things not working out. That kind of fear can be paralyzing, and forcing through it can be crazy difficult, yet ultimately one's best option unless there's some kind of genuinely worrisome risk attached.
      Others, just get stuck in a rut. Comfortable in a pattern. They don't think so much about what other possibilities there might be, and thus they miss out on chances to enrich their lives and their understanding of themselves and others. Going with the flow can be easier, but that doesn't necessarily make it better.
      And then there are those of us who are extremely uncomfortable with change, but recognize its value and try to be at least somewhat open to it despite our inherent resistances. I fall in this category, and as much as I do like my stability, my familiar patterns, I also realize the importance of keeping my eyes open and my mind ready to re-evaluate any speech, thought or behavior patterns that are simply not working out; that are producing results other than the desired ones.
      I may be reading too much into this silly comedy bit, but art is subject to interpretation, no? And what I take from this is, simply, "If your life sucks, don't just say 'nothing you can do about it' and resign yourself to the emotional quicksand of it all. Do something different. Think of stuff to try. Ask your friends, see a therapist, do something other than just sit and feel bad." That's my interpretation, anyway.

    • @eragon78
      @eragon78 Рік тому +3

      @@hazukichanx408 I mean sure, but even then, the "you should change" or "things should change" part isnt whats difficult to figure out about that situation.
      If you're stuck in a rut, you usually KNOW that you are, and you KNOW things should change. Figuring out what should change and how to accomplish that change is whats hard though. Again, a depressed person knows they should do something to help their depression, the issue is they dont know WHAT to do. Simply telling them to "change" is equivalent to telling them to just not be sad and be happier. Its not really helpful at all. Its not actually giving them any guidance on courses of actions they can actually take to fix the problem.
      Yea, I guess this may be ok advice for a FEW people who are in complete denial that their current life is miserable or a problem, but most people who are in this situation know their life sucks and that things would be better if they could make a positive change to it. But knowing how to actually make those changes isnt easy. Not every change would be positive, change for change's sake isnt good. Only some changes are actually positive, and finding what those positive changes are isnt easy for most people, and its usually specific to each person's individual situations.
      On top of that, there ARE situations where people have very little control to change their lives for the better which is exactly why you hear randy say "if you have the means to". Because not everyone even does. Of course you should be trying to think of ways to improve your life, but the answer isnt always so simple.
      But yea, my point isnt that people shouldnt change if their life is in a rut. My point is that this is usually the most obvious bare minimum shallow conclusion you can come up with about the situation. Its the thing that the vast majority of people in these situations already know. Thats not the actual hard part. The hard part is figuring out HOW to change or what specifically needs to change in what ways, and how to achieve that change.
      This is why therapist are so important for a lot of people because therapist are trained to be more personal with people, and help provide advice more tailored to your specific situation. Reading some cliché quote online or hearing some snappy sounding bit from a comedy sketch isnt really helping anyone. I mean it sounds nice and all, but the people who are actually struggling already know that stuff. Its not deep or meaningful at all, its just common sense.

    I have entomophobia (fear of bugs) because growing up we always had ant infestations in the summer months, and a few particular years, the ants had gotten into our pantry and into our food. I unwillingly and unknowingly poured myself a bowl of cereal that had ants in it, and started to eat it. I was probably halfway through it before I noticed. My dad told me to finish it anyway because "it just adds more protein" and that it would be wasteful to throw it away. I attempted to eat a few more bites and then said "ground me if you have to, I'm not eating this." and then I think I puked, I honestly don't remember. I couldn't eat cereal again for many years, well into adulthood.

    While technically correct on the bit about opinions, the problem is that there generally is a right one. So once you get there, being able to change is meaningless.
    I came to most of my current positions between 10 and 12 and the only thing that's changed on the fact front in every regard is that everyone else's standards have gone several orders of magnitude lower than I ever thought possible.
    Nothing has been capable of disproving my opinions in the decades since except the part about it not getting worse than it was. And for a time it seemed I was right.
    From them until about 2006 it was getting better but 2007 on has all been downhill.
