I love how public they are about their long term plans. How often do you hear about the entire expac road map after patches have barely even started with most MMO?
As a Sprout healer I am looking forward to the trust ARR dungeons. It will make me feel more encouraged to play without being nervous a new healer. And I would totally try new things like warrior. If I could play solo it will make me sooooo happy.
I feel you. When I started years ago as conjurer I was super nervous about dungeons. With experience it got better, but I would have loved to have this option early on.
As a solo mmo player, the trust system update excites me the most in this live letter. Solo mmo player may sound weird but I do prefer to play games alone where I can slowly explore the world/dungeon in my own pace. But I also like the buzzing feel in mmos. And I do have some friends who played all or most of the FF games but totally skipped 11 & 14 just because it’s mmo. And when I told them about this update, they are now excited and considering to play 14 when the trust update is implemented.
Cape Westwind and Lahabrea being retooled as "Instanced Story Battles" basically means it will be a solo duty, kind of like... to use an old and I *think* non-spoiler (for Accolon) example, the hostage situation in the Vault. *SPOILER!* Though it'd be more like Zelidibus, Elidibert, Zenos and/or Ran'jit but those encounters are probably spoilers still.
*ON BEAST TRIBES.* Also, people are happy about Beast Tribe Quests being reminted as *Tribe Quests* because Beast Tribes is a racist term invented by the Ul'dahn Syndicate to vilify and ostracize them, because they wanted an "other" to charge exhorbitant taxes to guard the trade routes from. People are happy about it not so much because it's racist but rather because phasing the term out is good representation of storybeats that the MSQ has been taking recently in bridging the differences between the tribes and the "civilized" peoples.
There's an instanced solo duty just before the end of the 2.0 ARR quest, in Castrum Centri in Mor Dhona. Your player character has to be wearing an Imperial uniform, "break into" the castle with Biggs and Wedge, and rescue the kidnapped Scions. The area is the same as it is in the open world, but the NPCs are different, and the latter half of the story dungeon turns into a mini battle arena where you have to deactivate magitek boosters that are making the robots take less damage. I think that for purposes of a narrative driven fight, it makes a lot more sense to do it that way, and putting Rhytty into that kind of instance will make it a lot more memorable.
In my opinion, I think Cape Westwind should just be a full on dungeon but that would probably take way too much time so being a solo instance duty is understandable. Narratively, I do like that it is the first real trial and I wish they kept it like that, but I'm all for better immersion. It is silly that you do go and 'just' beat up Rhitayn - that comment was funny. Its pretty much the WoL and friends jumping him randomly. In my opinion, Prae being a 4 man dungeon is great but will be hard to imagine. I don't know what they're gonna do with all the long cutscenes in between. I hope they at least keep the Cid/Gaius scenes, those are important scenes. The rest can be adjusted to fit in the backdrop of the dungeon. I'm really curious about Prae now. I really wanna see what their idea is. Gaius should definitely be the final boss of Prae, and I hope they actually make him respectable. The current Gaius fight is a joke lol. My idea would be to make the final trial a two phase fight - Ultima Weapon + Lahabrea. That way it would be similar to their current formula (final dungeon - 2 phase trial - the end). But to hear Lahabrea being an instanced story battle...not sure, depends on the execution. Just make him respectable is all I ask.
I don’t know if FF is going to crush other, but I’d say it’s most likely the most well managed and complete MMO in the market right now. No other MMO even come close. Lost Ark for example, is fun but mostly due to the combat. The grinding is not fun at all.
I've never played a game that laid it's intentions for the next several years out so thoroughly before it's actually finished and ready to be implemented. Like, I'm used to games with day one dlc or finidng out what's coming in patch livestreams where they showcase what is coming about a week before it drops. This is wild to me. Makes me want to keep playing just to be able to see these things drop in realtime.
it not like we have ever seen a game fail so badly but it was force to be revive because if it fail, it would bring shame to the name of the franchise they got their 1 chance at a do over so they must make sure it doesn't burn, so the dev went full transparency, they lay it all out what they want to do and listen to what we want put in and answer if it feasible or not
The problem with voice acting all cutscenes in FFXIV is that characters will refer to the player character by name in unvoiced cutscenes. If they were to change it up, you'd get the "Maw Walker" issue in WoW, where the relationship between PC and NPC feels disconnected.
They already call you by names, they just don't go lame-o route "Maw Walker", they call you friend, hero and in some fringe cases you get called Champion, but those are really special occasions and not just some random word spout by all npcs
Here's how you handle rewards for Trust dungeons: Literally the same as usual. When you do Trusts in Shadowbringers and Endwalker, the amount of gear drops are halved, but since you're by yourself, it jumps right into your Armory Chest no muss, no fuss (or Inventory if you set new gear to go there first). Anything that rewards minions and such will still drop like normal, cause who gives a shit it's a minion. Not only will this be insanely easy for MSQ gearing, if you're doing this on an alt class or re-running them, you can just equip an alt class or sell the dungeon gear for Company Seals that will also give your Free Company currency to keep supplying your world buffs like the slight EXP gain or teleportation discount. Basically, if you wanna check the trust dungeons out for New Game Plus or just skipping to the dungeons, you still *want* the gear drops since you're helping your FC *and* yourself by getting things like Ventures for your retainers or crafting/gathering EXP boosters. Trust dungeons are a massive win-win. It lets you do the basic story without worrying about other players since all other group content is still group required, and even if you don't need the gear, the stuff you can sell it for is very helpful.
Brook's Law is alive and well. "Adding additional resources to a late software project will make it later." Or, as he once put it, it takes nine months to make a baby no matter how many women are assigned to the task. Back in business school we learned a fancy formula for how many people you can safely add to a team and how to calculate about how much of a delay you could expect, vs potential gains down the road. The earlier on in the process you add them, the less of an impact, but there is always an impact. Of course, the potential gains in terms of increased scope (content) are huge, but there is always going to be growing pains when trying to add more people to a big project. SE has also been burned so many times trying to outsource even pieces of a project that they've given up on that, and do everything fully in house as much as they can now. (Most recently with the FFXI phone port, but previously with FFVII remake, and much earlier with XIV 1.0..... and probably many others I'm not aware of.) They have a handful of trusted partners in China and Korea who are in charge of the localization for those versions, but all development for the Japanese, European, and North American markets are handled internally.
So many good things to look forward to in FFXIV. I had worried that it might lose some steam now that the Hydaelyn/Zodiark saga is over... but it looks like that team has what it takes to keep things going. And at least every bit of content in the Hydaelyn/Zodiark saga will continue to be relevant moving forward. And as someone who does spend most of my MMO time solo, I love that my style of gaming is acknowledged and will be catered to.
Y‘know, knowing the FFXIV team, I feel like they will come up for a lore reason the graphics looks more beautiful like when they remade the game into ARR
People keep comparing voice acting frequency in ffxiv with other mmos, but what I want to know is comparatively how many voice lines are there in an expansion in ffxiv with other mmos, because I can't imagine getting every scene, every quest, every job quest, every side quest in every different language dubs of the game voiced in the time frame that they are putting out expansions and patches now. I think the amount of voice acting in Endwalker is good, and they might have more voice acting in the future, but definitely not all of them.
I don't think people realize what impact these changes will have on glams and combinations. Slight differences in shade and material may already make it look bad, so it's gonna be a real challenge to re-match everything!
As someone who has played ESO at least up to CP 200; About the voice acted scenes, I don't want FFXIV to end up like ESO where outside the big characters you have the same 4- 6 voice actors all over again. I love your work Gideon Emery but there's only so much I can hear your voice out of different characters. I remember joining a random dungeon run and getting the Arena dungeon and we all went "Ah yes, the dungeon with all the voice actors."
About voice acting. I feel like eso had more of a dauting task to voice act every quest cause you had alot of various dialogue options, if they did it. Ff14 can def do it. Pesonally feel like yoship team has they're priority right and hopefully they will get to voice acting. In any case, ff14 future looks bright and im def hyped to experience it all!
I don't think they'll add full voice acting in FF. It feels like a bit of a luxury - and I'm sure Yoshi-P understands that a part of great immersion is letting the players read and leave up to interpretation here and there.
I've been treating FFXIV as a solo RPG since I started playing it 8 months ago. Best RPG I have ever played. I prefer group dungeons, however, aince it's a bit faster.
Watching the twitch chat tie themselves in knots going "it's not a political thing! It's not a political thing! They've stopped calling them beast tribes for IN-LORE reasons, got that, IN-LORE!" is highly amusing. Imagine being so wound up in the "social politics bad" mindset that you feel you have to justify an objectively good idea that literally no decent person would complain about.
Mare Lamentorum is actually pronounced Mah-rey. It's Latin for "Sea of Sorrows". Ultima Thule is also Latin. While it translates literally as "furthest island", in Latin it is a metaphor for "edge of the world" (since in Roman times, the furthest island was considered the edge of the world). These updates do give me a lot more confidence about the game...after finishing Endwalker my thought was "what are they going to do from here?"
I don't think they will ever add full voice acted cutscenes. They would have to go back and redo all of ARR or rehire the ARR Voice actors, making it unlikely in the first place. But they way it is also plays into the story. More importantly though, while keeping this generic to avoid spoilers, there are aspects to the story where you see a character but the person's identity is intended to be a secret, and if they added voice acting to everything, then you could easily identify them just by their voice, which would ruin the experience.
In my mind, it's sorta crazy how people want to play an MMOrpg by themselves. But hey, to each their own; more accessibility can't hurt, right? It's cool that they're trying to cater to pure soloists. It also means they'd have to figure out alliance raids like 'the mandatory one' unless they completely change it.
Its more that he wants to open the game up to people who only play mainline FF games which are solo, and specifically do not play the multiplayer titles just because they are mmos. I dont think its about people wanting to play mmo's alone
because there are alot of them just want to enjoy it as final fantasy game not an MMO, by not casting for those people, mean you just waste a big player base from FF fanbase, that why it's a smart move of yoship
Yoshi-P treats FFXIV as a FF JRPG first and MMO second, so the extension of making it more solo friendly is purely to fit within that viewpoint. This is also why people in general say that FFXIV respects your time, because the design intent behind the game is for it to be the RPG first and foremost on top of Yoshi-P's view that people should have the ability to play other games.
About voice acting, many people forget that FFXIV supports multiple languages from sub to VA. When a diaglog changes, all other supported languages must change as well. I'm sure community will be happy when roulette gives them players not only without a job stone but also without gear or any knowledge of the game/job ;) And then it will have limited effect on solo players outside of FF franchise as I doubt people would want to play ARR MSQ instead of like Witcher 3 or any upcoming hot new game. MSQ Trust is rather for future players having problems with queue time.

@@HakaishinCat yes it already can happen. I find it quite hard to see people explicitly not playing FF14 for years just because it's online and joining at 7.0 just because it's trust for MSQ. I would say they didn't want to admit they have longer and longer MSQ so to prevent people waiting like half an hour in queue they will give a trust system to make the game playable. As a side note for solo players - on Skyrim forums I've saw a lot of people not understanding how basic systems work. Even it's a simple game it clearly shows that a lot of solo players don't go deep into the game system. Even in MMOs big part isn't parsers. WoW did tried to cater to similar playerbase and it didn't ended up well. I think you 100% missed the fact that a lot of these people that want solo MSQ *are fans of the franchise.* As in they've played every other game. That is single player. They WANT to play FF14 solo. They don't wanna play Witcher, because they already would have played Witcher. They want to play with the one everyone is currently saying is the best story this franchise has ever seen.
@@UltimaKeyMaster curious if it's actually true - many years passed. I was referring more to less franchise specific players. This may attract them too and I hope it won't end like in WoW. That's the part in this I see as dangerous.
Kalonline does not want and never will be competitive. Kalonline has a better understanding of having players as devoted and respect for the game and as players in the game. Final Fantasy with greed is about money hoarding for self and not selfless with intent to be evil about it.

I think you 100% missed the fact that a lot of these people that want solo MSQ *are fans of the franchise.*
As in they've played every other game.
That's the part in this I see as dangerous.
though if you only care for the story and not doing extreme/savage/etc then the trusts are for them.

Kalonline does not want and never will be competitive. Kalonline has a better understanding of having players as devoted and respect for the game and as players in the game. Final Fantasy with greed is about money hoarding for self and not selfless with intent to be evil about it.
some dialogue is better left unsaid
Bring on solo play!! I love solo play and group play :D
That didn't come out right. I'm very embarrassed and need to be alone.
I might actually play new game plus if this happens lol
You know this man speaks Afrikaans when he says Gridania lmao
