  • Very sad-- my Nexus 6P froze and restarted, getting stuck at the Google logo. Bootloop happened about a week after OTA update to Android 7.0 Nougat. ::cries::
    Video recorded on my Nexus 5X, apparently now my daily driver. ::cries some more::

    NOTE: 6P might need a previously unlocked bootloader to flash any repair files to it. It might not be possible to unlock the bootloader from ADB. Caution-- apply any fixes at your own risk.

      Have you tried this solution?
      My Nexus 6P bootloader is locked, and I can`t do anything:
      C:\Users\andre>fastboot flashing unlock
      ...
      FAILED (remote: oem unlock is not allowed)
      finished. total time: 0.008s
      C:\Users\andre> fastboot flash boot c:\adb\N2G48B_4Cores.img
      target reported max download size of 494927872 bytes
      sending 'boot' (12384 KB)...
      OKAY [ 0.323s]
      writing 'boot'...
      FAILED (remote: device is locked. Cannot flash images)
      finished. total time: 0.346s

      booblick i haven't tried this solution. when you enter the unlock command, are you in the fastboot menu on the 6P? it should give you options to apply the unlock, I think (I'm just guessing)

    +Don Lew , I'm one of the Google Top Contributors on the Google Nexus/Pixel support forums. I just passed your video on to my Community Manager. Thank you for making this video, stories like yours are EXACTLY why volunteers like "Techno Bill" and I are pushing so hard to get this resolved. (Techno Bill was the Nexus Expert who was responsible for the push toward getting Google to allow full "Recovery OTA" images to save bootloader-locked devices.) Unfortunately in this case, you cannot even get to Recovery to apply that. Hopefully your video can be evidence why Google needs to allow block-level access to devices through the Bootloader for repair purposes -- basically, a low-level format tool like the Nvidia chipset devices have. (Even if your data is locked and hosed, at least then the device would be recoverable!)

      thanks Nathan, I appreciate it. that's pretty much what I'd like to see. my Nexus 5 had a similar problem but I was still able to recover the hardware (lost the data) but in this Nexus 6P situation, I think my hardware was also good and didn't need to have been RMA if I could have reflashed it or something.

      I am also looking for a solution to this problem. I was on 7.1.1 the latest ota build and took a burst picture of my wife. It was stuck in processing and then restarted. Once it restarted, it worked for a while and then I was sending a test and it went into the bootloop. If you figure anything out, please share a solution.

      Any response from Google? What might be causing this issue? Is it Nougat related?

    • @alsenlea

      Hi Nathan Thanks a lot for the reply. The same problem happened to me, but I was able to get into recovery and flash the rescue OTA zips, but strangely enough is that after the flash even if there was success message on the screen, the flash still failed and nothing changed, I even check the build info in recovery which stayed the same before and after flash. Is this normal? Any suggestions? My problem is that I bought it from Optus Australia and the bootloop happened only a few days right before the warranty expired and then I had to go back to China. It's the best phone I've ever used, especially likes the photos it took. Such a pity that all I have now is a brick with so much memories of Melbourne, VIC!

    most users have tried re-flashing factory images or wiping their data to no avail. Once you contact Google, the company will send you a refurbished unit. Though Google says the bootloop is strictly a hardware issue, it is curious that both Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X devices are suddenly affected by it after the most recent Nougat update.

    Hi Don, they did replace the battery with no luck. They told me when it boots up, it goes so far and it needs a little extra boost from the battery. It kinda simulates a low battery charge condition. I will talk to my sister who has an electronic background. I may just change the charger board.

    This happened to me yesterday while I was checking my fantasy football updates. Sucks but glad to know I'm not the only one experiencing this. I called Huawei and they were able to provide me with a new 6P. They just need verification (Proof of Purchase) that it is still under the 1 year manufacturer's warranty and you are good to go.

  • @Tulabear
    @Tulabear 7 років тому +2

    I had this same issue. I was able to reach out to Google support (since I bought the phone through Project Fi last year) and get a warranty replacement. They do put a hold on your credit card, but it's for a zero amount - UNLESS your phone is damaged. Mine is pretty clean w/ no damage since it's been in a case and had a tempered glass screen protector since day one.
    Bottom line - if you get your phone through the Google Fi project, you'll save yourself a ton of headaches.
    And a bit of an addendum - I have a Nexus 6p from Huawei, black, 128 gb. I had NOT put the latest patch on it, but it did have 7.0 installed. (NBD91K)

  • @RanjeetDighe
    @RanjeetDighe 7 років тому +3

    You can try highlighting the issue with #AndroidBricksNexus hashtag on twitter. Clearly this problem deserves a large scale recall of phones. Google is committed to give updates for Nexus 6p. Most people using stock Android on leave auto update feature on. That is how the updates are supposed to work normally.
    I was shocked to hear from Huawei today. Their contention is they have told users not to update to 7.1.1!!! So users are responsible for bootlooping or bricking their phones!!! Wow.
    I am never buying anything Google ever again and will spread this message to as many people as I can. If this is their response to a problem they created, people ought to show them what consumer action can do.
    Btw, there was not ONE email to users asking them to stop updating phones!!! This when they own every piece or data on our phones and are selling it piece by piece. And they sold Nexus 6p as a top of the line flagship!!!

  • @Bella_Mar
    @Bella_Mar 7 років тому +5

    This phone is such CRAP. I bought it from Google (Project Fi) and I've had to replace it 3 times so far! And this bootloop crap happened since the OTA a week ago (security patch 7.1.1). I contacted Fi and they are sending me refurb AGAIN. I'm 3 seconds away from getting a completely different phone, sick of Google and their issues! Unfortunately, I travel overseas and not too many phones have the bands I need for calls with local carriers in Europe. I don't trust Nexus phones anymore!

    • @HandheldAddict
      @HandheldAddict  7 років тому +1

      BMarchesa that's very unlucky. I'm currently using a oneplus 3t now, I've only had it for a couple weeks but it's working great for me

    • @Bella_Mar
      @Bella_Mar 7 років тому

      I'm looking at the OnePlus 3t phone, but I've read that it struggles at time with Wifi (no mimo), and has a so-so camera. However, the 5X is definitely not in the running anymore. Too much of a headache!

    • @HandheldAddict
      @HandheldAddict  7 років тому +1

      BMarchesa it's weird that I had to fall back on my 5X when my 6P bootlooped but I've heard many cases of 5X bootlooping so I can't recommend it to anyone. The oneplus 3t camera is a step down from the 6P/5X, but it's not terrible. I personally haven't had any problems with wifi on my 3t, but I'm having lots of trouble with the fingerprint scanner

    • @Bella_Mar
      @Bella_Mar 7 років тому

      I read that the fingerprint scanner gets even worse with the newest update. I use my camera phone for work, so I need a good mobile camera, and I also just read the version of the One+3 I could get is N American version that does not have bands 3 and 20, which are mostly used in Europe where I travel often; only the China version has those bands. Such a shame, as the phone does look rather nice.

      if you can't fully boot the 6P, your only other option would be to hook it up to a PC and try to access it using ADB. But you would need to have USB debugging enabled in the 6P beforehand. Maybe a local repair shop might be able to fix it. Unfortunately, sounds like your options are limited. Hope you can get it sorted.

    My Nexus 6P also stuck on the google log screen. Went to Huawei service center and the guy mentioned it needs motherboard replacement and it costs around 21K. He also mentioned lot of customers facing this problem and it is a software problem and google didn't provide and tool to fix this software problem. Only solution is replace mother board. Good lesson learnt, google phones are not reliable, switching to apple.

    Hi! I got the exact same problem! My 6P also froze when i was listening to music and then got stuck in a bootloop. You said you were going to send it back, but if you manage to solve the issue by yourself I would be happy to know how!

    • @HandheldAddict
      @HandheldAddict  8 років тому +2

      hey Simon. sorry to hear you got the same problem. for anyone with this issue there are 2 things that they need to have a chance to fix it: either an unlocked bootloader (OEM unlocking enabled in Developer settings) and/or USB debugging enabled. without at least USB debugging enabled, there may be no hope. BUT... if your bootloop at least starts the colours dots you MIGHT have hope of doing a factory reset if you can get into the Recovery menu. if all you can see is the Google logo and it loops I think it's pretty bad.
      I tried installing ADB on my PC and seeing if I had any remote flash options but I couldn't do much without first having USB debugging enabled.
      my theory is that Android 7.0 is causing a higher than usual number of these bootloops, though I can't prove it.

      yes, I've read many cases of it happening on people's Nexus 5X, makes me nervous. I was sent a replacement 6P, seems like it's new, and it came with 6.01 Marshmallow on it. then it immediately wanted to do the monthly security updates starting with June, about 3-4 updates in a row, then Android 7.0 update. I did try Android SDK but I still couldn't access anything on the phone when connected, I didn't have USB debugging on before it began bootlooping

    Hi Don, I am having the same problem. Same story about the phone just rebooting all by it self. I took it into a shop for repair. They thought it was a battery problem, only because when the battery charge level gets below 10%, It will boot up like normal. My Phone has been used when the batter level is very low. Make calls, send and receive text, Log into email accounts ect. I am going to try to get the battery level high enough to do one more system update. Any more battery charge than 10% it goes back to Bootloop

    I'm just barely under warranty (I bought it in January), so I'll be able to ship it to Huawei for them to look at. Were they able to resolve it for you (fix/replace it)? Most everything for me is backed up too so I'd be alright with either a factory reset or a new phone.

    My device bootlooped a few days ago. Been contacting google customer service ever since. My device just happens to bootloop one month after the warranty runs out. In a CNET article www.cnet.com/uk/news/why-i-regret-buying-a-google-phone/ it says "When reached for comment by CNET, a Google spokesperson said the company was "not aware of a bootloop issue for the Nexus 6P" and noted that "if the Nexus 6P was purchased from the Google Store, we will replace the device regardless of warranty status."". After sending customer care this article and quoting it, they told me that it was false and they would be contacting CNET. I'm not convinced of any of this. Emailed CNET asking for proof of a statement or if they could please remove this quote from their article. They said they were going to escalate the issue. I've tried everything bar the fix that slows down the processor, I'm just not sure what to do at this point.

      Samiul Huq Bhuiyan the Nexus 5X is a bit of a different issue. The bootloops for that phone are usually caused by improper solder on the motherboard. The Bower Button is Broken probably similar to my Nexus 5 Powerbutton. It some times remains constantly pushed even if it is not physically pushed ... It happens on my opinion from using it on the cold outside, it does not like the cold of winter. My Nexus 5 had this problems 5 mounts after the warranty... It sucks when the most important button in your phone is broken by winter and renders your entire device useless.

      paras nandu this has been known to work for Nexus 5, stuck power button seems less common on Nexus 6P. but if that's the problem it should be auto-selecting on the fastboot menu. good you got yours taken care of for now 👍

      Ziad Moataz it may be possible to apply the XDA fix but it's usually a hardware failure, so it might not be able to be fixed

      Robert Yang hi Robert, there are actions you can do using command prompt in ADB console to factory reset and other actions. Google "ADB Nexus 6P" and you might find some options. good luck 👍

      Diogo Tupinambá I know, it's pretty disappointing. I hoped Nexus would end on a better note. I'm thinking of making a vid about the OnePlus 5T as a Nexus 6P replacement. There's lots of other options out there as well.

    initially i was having the same problem. later the phone got dead.. i have sent my phone to the service centre. will i have to pay anything for the repairs if something is wrong or will it be free ? what are the chances of getting a new replacement device ?

    • @HandheldAddict
      @HandheldAddict  8 років тому +1

      if it's under one year warranty, Google would replace it IF they find no physical damage, like from a drop. user caused damage is not covered under warranty and would be charged for service. good luck 👍

    I have nexus 5x it's been a 2 weeks , I am having the same problem with my device , I want to know that is it hardware problem or it's a software problem , because it's happening after getting android 7.0, please let me know regarding it.thanks

    • @HandheldAddict
      @HandheldAddict  8 років тому

      with the 5X it's a real question. some speculate that the hardware is causing the bootloops. I'm typing this on my 5X which has been on Android 7.0 since the official release. I've had no problems with 7.0 on my 5X yet. if you can't stop bootloops through factory reset or accessing via PC, then it probably needs to be RMA, whether hardware or software fault.

      +Kamil Multani RMA= return merchandise authorisation. so talk to where you bought it from to begin the warranty return process. hopefully you can deal with Google, but if you bought from elsewhere you might have to talk to LG. good luck👍

    • @HandheldAddict
      @HandheldAddict  8 років тому

      +Kamil Multani I agree, I used to have a Nexus 5 and I had 2 years of rock solid performance from it that sold me on stock Android. but all phones have a "small number" of failures, it's unavoidable. I don't know if these are any less reliable than other phones.

      Orlando Colom that really sucks. I've had my 5X for just about a full year. I've heard many more reports of bootloops on the 5X, but the reasons may be different. I've heard users on Reddit trying baking or putting the phone in the freezer for about 15 minutes to temporary be able to boot up. but it's something that's totally at your own risk. hope you can get yours replaced on warranty
