The early 2010s was a nice time, and Kendrick, Cole, Earl, Tyler, Joey, Waka, K.R.I.T.,
Lil B, Denzel, etc still make good music.
I wish there was another era like it.

2010-2014 was a mini golden age for hip-hop. Artists like Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Drake, Rick Ross, Kenrick Lamar, J Cole and ASAP Rocky had top quality releases. Hip-hop underwent experimentation as pop, dance and electronica fused with rap to make for some interesting songs. What a time.

@@realbosstakeawhaaaat?? 2018 was fkn dope. whether you're really Hiphop, or if you're just a casual mainstream rap fan.
Benny The Butcher broke out with a CLASSIC, Tana Talk 3, changing underground Hiphop along with it. Of course then I have to mention Conway has multiple raw ass projects & WSG too. a lot of the griselda fan favorites are from 2018.
Nipsey Hussle finally signed his big deal & released his debut album which was a big project, & a big deal culturally, he really put the marathon on the map & achieved his mission. unfortunately he would be murdered not long later in spring 2019.
Royce & DJ Premier PRhyme2 is a classic, then Royce came right back with Book of Ryan, his most important & meaningful album which let him finally get his credit & was considered the #1 or 2 best emcee in the world next to Black Thought for the next 3-4 years.
Black Thought who did his Funk Flex freestyle that stopped the whole culture for a second. he also had a crazy project showcasing why hes the most lyrical mf ever.
Flex bringing back his freestyle series heavy was in 2018 too which was impactful.
J Cole KOD was cool. more importantly though that album started transitioning him to his veteran/OG stage of his career.
Meek Mill came out of prison & had a big album which was dope to see happen for him.
Jay Rock had a dope comeback album.
Freddie Gibbs did the album with Curren$y & Alchemist.
I didnt enjoy Astroworld but it was a big event.
Lil Wayne was finally able to release The Carter V (& it was actually very successful). Maybe not the perfect ending to The Carter series but monumental for Wayne & Hiphop in total, & that was Wayne's real return to relevance which we've seen him drop multiple albums & features since where hes rappin his ASS off.
Can't forget Drake did the Scorpion album,
& Kanye ruined a Nas album but he also did a fire Pusha T album which of course leads us to
Drake VS Pusha T which is one of the standout moments of the year & an iconic part of 2010s Hiphop.
Kanye also did all those other albums I didnt give a shit about at all lol
Another big rap beef, Eminem had his Kamikaze album which regardless how anyone feels about it, was definitely better than the shit from the year before, & then of course we got Eminem vs MGK.
sticking with the whites, we got Mac Miller's final album. bittersweet obviously since he died a few months later but that album was really telling, I believe his next album would've been his magnum opus. if he was ever going to create that career defining artistic masterpiece I felt like it was going to be that next album (obviously I'm not even considering posthumous blahblahblah)
JID started breaking into the light & becoming an important new artist with DiCaprio 2.
Anderson .Paak released oxnard, but also had some dope ass singles like Bubblin
a bunch of other stuff that happened in 2018 that I maybe dont care about so much but was relevant
Migos album culture 2 was highly anticipated
      Cardi B became a star
ik rap Twitter loves earl Sweatshirt album some rap songs
they also love that kanye and cudi album
I have never been a fan but I know Lupe fans really enjoy that drogas wave album
MF DOOM Czarface album (might've been his last album? not sure but definitely one of them)
I'm sure theres way more too if you look it up, this is just what I remember off the top of my head (always been good with remember dates)
obviously we had just gotten Kendrick in 2017 (& a bunch of other good shit in 2017 that set us up for a good 2018) but I think 2018 is *EASILY* a contender for best year for 2010s Hiphop. 12/13/15/16 were all good & important, maybe had some higher highs, but 2018 had such a high amount of great albums, new rappers, old rappers, new & inspired sounds, & eventful moments super consistently throughout the year.
on top of that Hiphop media was probably at its peak (right before short form came & damaged the entire media in general). I *WISH* there was that kind of Hiphop media back in the golden era. instead I'm stuck with 4 minute tv interviews of Biggie & Wu Tang smh lol.

I feel like you should've given A$AP MOB and more so ASAP Rocky more credit. Rocky and Kendrick both got that Drake co sign in 2011 and were huge. Rocky's 2013 album is still heavily loved in the Hip Hop community, and you can even see glimpses of it and references in pop culture, such as the latest Spiderman into the spidervese movie. And while everyone knows Lil B as to be one of the earliest pioneers of Cloud Rap, A$AP Rocky was the one who received the most commerical/critical success within the genre.
Also, groups like Raider Klan, Odd Future and the A$AP Mob had brought the idea of rap groups/ rap collectives and their importance back to life. It was a crazy time with each group finding and using difference sounds, fashion styles and audiences.
Kid Cudi also should have been mentioned at least once. He really helped pioneer the psychedelic sound, and would even influence huge future artist like Travis Scott who was finding his own lane around this time with his early mixtapes.
Kanye also should've been mentioned for Fantasy Watch The Throne and Yeezus. And Death Grips as well. For even though some may not consider them to be "Hip Hop" {Talking about Grips} they still brought a large audience to the genre itself, (and this is coming from a black guy.)
Honestly, Kendrick Lamar's "Control verse" is a high indicator on who the biggest stars/personalities were at the time. All the artist he called out were called for a reason, as they were the biggest and most impressive names at that said time. Again, this is referring to the early 2010s.

I agree. Kids in my school used to argue back and forth over A$AP Mob or Odd Future like they were gang affiliations or something. It was Vlone vs Golf Wang. East Coast vs West Coast all over again. Yung Lean also blew up using Cloud Rap, but he wouldn't get much flowers until years later. I feel like Purp was done dirty, but everyone associates cloud rap with ASAP.

    Put this in perspective:
They say true hiphop died when gansta rap took over
They say gansta rap died when Pac and Biggie died
They say hiphop died when the south took over
They hiphop died when d4l and DFB took over with the snap movement
They say hiphop died when home producers made it big
They say hiphop died when streaming took over
They say hiphop died when gen z artist took over
Notice a generational trend here? It’s all based on preferences in each listener. You grow up and realize things you didn’t realize when you’re young. It’s a cycle!

Early 2010's was a good era...... Like a really good era. Hip hop had just took the center stage from rock music and there was a bunch of different personalities. We had club bangers and street anthems and lyrical miracles. And sometimes the club bangers and the street anthems were also lyrical miracles..... The EDM and POP music was dope too, not gonna lie.

I was more into the Young Money scene at the time. I dub it the Young Money Golden era which I'd say was like 2009-2013 or so. Any big name radio hit had to have one of the big three from the label (if not more than one). As I've grown older I've definitely started going more of Lyrical direction though. Meanwhile the utter dominance trap began to have in the second half of the 2010s completely killed the interest I had in hip hop for a while. I was in a bad time of my life and I guess hip hop music wasn't really what I needed to help get me through it looking back.

From 2010 - 2013 I look at that like the "silver age" of hip hop, you had Drake, Meek, Wale, Kendrick, Nicki, Cole, Wiz Khalifa, and Big Sean that was either dropping thier debut/sophomore album. Wayne was looked at as a god, Kanye was a proven veteran, Rick Ross was at OG status, Hov and Em were still contributing being the rap titans they are, and DJ Khaled became the master mixologist.

I still liked the video overall.. But i can tell if you were around during this era, you weren't as tuned in as you should've been during this era because you portrayed certain artist wayyy undervalued than they actually were during this era.. Im 29 so im not that old but i was in HS during this time so i remember a lot from this era. Personally i feel like you didn't do a good job portraying how Big Sean put himself in the best rapper conversation amongst Kendrick, Cole and Drake during this era, you only mentioned him for 2 seconds.. You didn't go in on the rise of new wave trap rap with Waka and French Montana. Failed to mention the battle of the hip hop groups during this era (YM,MMG,Good Music, TDE, Bad Boy, Slaughter House etc). Failed to mention Wayne goin to jail wile still being the best rapper. & that's when Drake and Nicki carried YMCMB for Wayne blew up even more & became arguably as big as Wayne by the time he was released from jail. You didn't mention Travis Scott and his production influence during this era for projects like Yeezus & Magna Carter. Also Wondergurl & Hitboy you failed to mention as poppin producers of this era. Didn't even bring up Kanyes continued dominance and rebrand during this era with MBDTF, WTT, Cruel Summer, Yeezus.. Skipped over a lot of shit and went too deep on shit you didn't need to go that deep on like the drill scene, westcoast and the unique sounds section could've all been shortened to fit in these points or just make the video longer.
