Sometimes I feel bad for Reid. He has a zone that separates him from everyone. It makes him unique, but at the same time I always thought he felt insecure by how smart he is.
Spencer puts it together faster than Emily can say it's impossible to put together ... then goes back to reading whatever he was reading like he wasn't even sidetracked by showing how fast he could assemble a supposedly-impossible puzzle. Emily's right; there's a lot to hate about you, Dr. Reid 😅
The puzzle is simple to be honest. Reid would be an invaluable friend, teammate, partner in crime etc. Regardless of his genius he's a genuine good person.
The thing when Gideon was on he always beaten Reid at chess and the reason was Gideon could always use his profiling skills to win games while the kid occasionally pulled out draws. It wasn't till the end of Gideon's illustrious career told Reid how he had beaten him all the time at the game. So Reid started to train himself to be not so predictable and that's when he started to regularly beat Gideon at chess. And I believe on their last game Gideon leans toward Reid and whispers I have nothing more to teach you. Through the game of chess he was teaching Reid to be more open about letting his emotions out, to be more human. When I first saw that scene I was blown away. I always thought it was just two people enjoying chess. But it was way more. It even felt like a father & son moment. CM had some of the best damn writers for sure.
I do love the fact that everyone puts a hold on everything to hear Emily's story and then you have Reid how slowed the puzzle. Then everyone's smiles, as there is a puzzle he can solve no matter how impossible it is.
Rossi: "Try playing poker with him sometime!" Morgan: "Try playing chess with him!" Garcia: "Or go!" I've seen Emily beat Spence in poker right there on the jet and I don't know about go, but I've never seen Emily play chess with Spence. She does know how to play, though. The closest I ever got to seeing Emily play chess at all was her first case in Season 2: "Lessons Learned", with Spence and Gideon when she was watching them play chess on the jet while the three of them were flying to GTMO and the game was suddenly over because the jet did a 90 degree right turn before landing and Spence said "I was winning." And Emily said "Actually he would have had you in 3!" And they both looked at Gideon's stern poker face! And on their flight back home Spence suddenly yielded the chess game to Gideon so he could take a nap and Gideon invited Emily to play a new game with him. And that was the end of the episode!
Reid puts the star together and gives it to Emily right, I'm just thinking about the story and wondering did he just declare his undieing love for her?
reid needs his own moriarty. like seriously criminal minds needs an arc with a recurring enemy on par with reid intellectually. Not a homicidal psycho genius but more vigilante/hacker/will hunting~ish person that leads to an endless rivalry. Someone who the team, Reid especially never properly wins against.
An underrated (imo) part of the Criminal Minds character dynamic is how Rossi studies Reid. Joe Montegna does a wonderful job of showing curiosity, fear, and a "glad this guy is on our side" all at the same time. From the moment Rossi met Reid in the early part of Rossi's joining team, when he had not yet come to respect Reid's genius, to when he finally realizes that it's not an occasional thing with Reid. Rossi examines Reid as though he is some sort of science experiment. Almost as a human might try to figure out an ET alien.
I had that puzzle as a kid, in clear plastic, the key piece is a straight bar which goes in last. First you find the "pairs" with the same shape cuts, and hold them mirrored against each other. And it goes together pretty quickly.
Many times I have thought about wanting his intellect. Then I sudden think about how every time I would walk into a room, I would l literally be the smartest one there and how everyone else would be a drooling caveman by comparison. The emotional, social, and intellectual loneliness would be staggering because I wouldn't have any peers.
Reid is a fictional depiction on The anit-social super Genius trope. Most people with this level of high intelligence don't behave like this, many of them are just regular folks who like to party and get laid.
I have that puzzle. Took me a little bit to figure out but once you do it's really easy. It's a little awkward but you gotta push the 3 pairs(6 pieces total) together at the same time and the tada it's solved.
This is why I like Reid oddly enough. While admittedly, it makes me feel bad for the guy that his intellect can make him isolated at times, he does not go out of his way to belittle anyone for it. He does not mock anyone around him for it. He is self-aware about being too "wordy" at times and he does not act childish. His flaw, for me, is that he is not so good at respecting people's boundaries imo.
well some myths, poems, operas, ballet and folklore don't have to make sense. in this case, I think the message of the story was the display the actions of how far a person would go to prove his/her love for someone.
The trick to that puzzle, at least as far as I've figured it out, is that you first have to assemble two halves, and then fit those together. Trying to assemble the whole thing bit by bit - which is how people normally naturally begin trying to solve it, I think - basically doesn't work without damaging the pieces.
Emily could beat Reid in Chess though, she proved so in the second season while Gideon and Reid were playing. She told Reid Gideon was going to win in 8 moves, Gideon smiled and confirmed it. THEN AGAIN, knowing Reid, he probably upped his game by then.
