Annoys me how everyone handled this. They're all trying to force him to forgive them without giving him time to process the situation. "Hey I know we lied for 10 months but its cool since shes back now, forgive us?" straight up mental manipulation on their part.

Same tbh freaking Steven Universe handled a personal betrayal reaction better and made it last a couple of episodes to show how it affected everyone

Uh yeah, cause I'm still not over this betrayal and the show is over ok? Prentice didn't think her friends were DEAD, so mourning 6 was a bit dramatic, and JJ would have let Reid use again. 10 WEEKS? Is a long ass time to go to someone and cry like that and be lied to, the entire time. This would have been a good time to have mental healthcare involved.

I was definitely on Spencer's side especially when he called JJ Jennifer and hated her for a little bit when she made the comment that his profiling skills failed him because he couldn't read Aaron or her. What really should have made them feel guilty was if he had relapsed and gone back to using Dilaudid again as a result of their lies. It sucked that they didn't let Spencer be mad at them longer although I did love the Heid moment that we got where Spencer told Aaron he couldn't be mad at him as he didn't show up to his home crying for 10 weeks.

      1) when Reid glares at JJ. You can see the moment she realizes pushing him isn't a good idea

Yes, they didn't tell anyone, but getting angry at Reid of all people (which this always makes me think he might be on the spectrum of how he acts. I love this series and I know their intentions was to protect Emily but anyone who went "Off Grid" because of personal trauma of a past life... You should never abandon your friends from your new life and handle your dark past alone with old friends from your past.
    Spencer Reid was betrayed indefinitely and had every right to be mad at JJ because She and Hotch were in on it and she have the nerve to go after him by his profiling skills, he trusted her with his life and could've went to his Dilaudid addiction again but the real pain was the fact that JJ, Hotch, and Emily claimed that "they had no choice" Everyone has as choice but;
Prentiss: She chosed to take on her dark past alone which followed back home.
Hotch: Made the decision to stage her death and hid it from their team.
JJ: Kept it from the one person that who trusted her, and she attacked claiming that Spencer "couldn't manage our perception so you couldn't detect our deception"
If I was Reid I would go ballistic telling her what said but I would be claiming that Prentiss is dead and that stranger is talking to Derek is not her. I would also mad at everyone else thinking how can they live on thinking they could move on but I won't.
They might say "Sorry" loudly and consistently as they want, I don't know if I could but I will never forget!!

I think Reid should've kept being angry longer, they basically had this one single episode of him holding grudge and then he moved on, only once making a remark about "oh, so you were really dead for a moment" during that episode with resuscitation. It's not very realistic, imho, not with Reid at least. He should've stay mad for days, weeks, months maybe. Would be also nice for a change - he has a work to do, and he loves his work, so imagine half a season of them working together while also trying to work with the fact that one member of the team is pretty angry about his teammates, for good personal reasons, even if work-wise it was justified to hide Emily's death.
Besides, Reid is good at keeping secrets, he mentioned in s1 that people usually entrust him with them. They could've sat him down and talk to him right after the hospital and say "hey, look, she's alive but we need to pretend she's not". Unlike how it happened when Maeve died, it seems like Reid kept showing up for work etc, so I don't think people who don't know him would actually notice much difference if he would know about Emily being alive.
Overall, yeah, I don't like how the show handled Reid in this situation.

Seeing the comments and yes the team was hurt. But it was to protect Emily. It came with the job. They knew what they were signing up for joining the BAU. Hell it happened to hailey and jack during the reaper section. This was no different. Everyone is just pissed off because unlike hailey, Emily didn’t really die. You all know how much JJ cares for Reid. They are best friends for god sake. We know if she could tell him she would. But to keep one friend safe yes she had to lie. I agree JJ shouldn’t have said what she did but she’s also frustrated. I was upset with what happened but I also understood why. How would you feel if someone was out to kill you, if you had the means to fake your death and start new would you? I would. Losing my old life is worth not losing my life life. But I guess that’s just me.

    • @erikawilliams6447

Yes I agree with this. He has a right to be upset, but ppl need to stop being so mad at JJ bc she and hotch did what they had to do to keep her safe. It was a sucky situation all around but it had to be done. I understand what she said wasn’t the best but to be honest he should’ve put that aside just for a bit and worked the case instead of making passive aggressive comments while on the job. I would be frustrated too. And the thing about the dialudid wasn’t right to say either in my opinion too bc it was like he was essentially guilt tripping her as to say well if u would’ve told me I wouldn’t have thought about it so it’s your fault I almost did which isn’t really fair bc she already still feels survivor’s guilt over the Tobias situation. So I say that to say that his feelings are justify but ppl gotta stop being so harsh on JJ as well. And spoilers but I’m happy in season 13 he acknowledged what JJ and hotch had to do for Emily when Emily had to do the same thing for him in a way when he went to prison

I don't think JJ's the bad guy for doing what she felt she needed to do to keep Emily safe and I don't think Reid's the bad guy for feeling hurt and betrayed by her choices. The only thing I am critical of is the way Reid handles the situation. He has the right to feel hurt and angry, and he has the right to take space from JJ if that's what he needs but taking pot shots at her while they're trying to their job was unfair.

Main reason why "Proof" is one of my favorite episodes:
Spencer's anger and JJ's annoyance to it was subtle. They didn't fight from the get-go. They deliberately drop statements that from the surface it sounds appropriate for the reply but if you look at it it's pointed at each other. Like when JJ said something about the Unsub (I forgot the exact context) Spencer butted in with a "wonder what it's like". And another discussion about said Unsub, when JJ said "and instead of dealing with the problem, he's acting out", she subtly glared at Spencer, who looked away. Stellar acting from Matthew and AJ.

Every member of the team understands the need for information security, particularly in a situation where a person's life is in grave danger and the location and identity must be kept secret. Nobody should know who doesn't need to know. It's basic security. They all know it. However, it's easy to understand the concept and entirely different when those security decisions affect you. Every one of them naturally thought, at least at first, that they should've been the exception, that they needed to know. And they were all wrong.
Honestly, the hardest part of this plotline was knowing that Hodge and JJ knew all along. They knew Emily was alive and yet they couldn't tell anyone about it. They had to watch their friends grieve and had to fake their own grief. And they had to know that eventually Emily would resurface and their friends would feel betrayed ... and they were right. Most of them wrongfully felt betrayed to some degree.

  • @angelwings4191

The moment JJ loses the argument is when she decides to be incredibly callous instead of understanding. Because while they did do what they needed to, Reid and the rest were still betrayed by it. They were still being used as well.
Was it a necessary evil? One could argue, but mostly yes. However, that still doesn't change that it was all lies.
JJ couldn't handle being the bad guy, which is something she absolutely should've been prepared to be when dealing in a deception like this. Instead, she acted like a cheerleader who couldn't handle being put down by the nerd, so She lashed out.
Reid was being passive-aggressive as hell, which he was well within his right to be, and JJ made it a pissing contest.

For everyone saying Emily's argument was bull "I mourned the loss of six." Yeah she wasn't talking about the BAU. She was talking about the team she investigated Doyle with. Every single person she spent years with, worked with. Everyone but one, that british dude can't remember his name. All of them were brutally murdered by Doyle for revenge and she had to watch helplessly till she snapped and went after him by herself which shows that she wasn't thinking straight. And yes Reid did have a right to feel his feelings but Emily really did have no choice at the possible risk that Doyle might come after the BAU too. It couldn't have been easy for JJ either having to watch her best friend suffer and not being able to do anything because this is in fact the life of an FBI agent when they're in witness protection. They can't have any contact with anyone lest they encite the possibility of costing their loved ones their lives. Remember what happened with Hailey? And what could've happened to Jack had he not hidden himself in the trunk? That was also a possibility that could've happened if Emily hadn't maintained radio silence at all times so I understand all perspectives on this matter which is what I think Reid understood as well at the end of the day because he knows all the agents that worked with Emily were dead and she couldn't even bury their bodies like they did with her she just had to watch and then run so she wouldn't be connected to them and end up Doyle's next victim.

They also didn’t let the anger and disgust and the issue of this gaping hurt the team long enough. I’d be mad, disgusted, sad, etc etc etc and it would take me some time to figure it out. Y'all got to understand that Emily faked her death in order to protect herself and her team, JJ should not be crucified for following orders however she was wrong to assume reid was mad because he couldn't detect their deception. The person that should be catching heat is unit chief Aaron Hotchner because it was his orders and decision to fake Emily's death and deliberately lie to the team. Me personally I don't think hotch did anything wrong it was strictly need to know and he did it to protect one of his own and possibly national security. That's why Morgan wasn't so upset because he recognized and understood why hotch made the decision and I also do want to point out that hotch did take accountability for his actions regarding Prentiss. Reid was emotionally upset with jj because he was crushing on her but he has to understand that she was just doing her job and couldn't disobey a direct order pertaining to Emily's fake death.

I know people are mad at Prentiss and JJ here, but like... every WORD they speak I hear the writers trying to justify their own plots 🤣 This was a cruel thing for them to do to the whole team, but since the writers didn't know if CBS was gonna hire Paget back or not, they needed to get rid of her without killing her AND they needed to justify her absence from the team. Prentiss loved the team too much to want to leave it, and we all know it. So they faked Prentiss's death to enable her to leave but WITHOUT creating plots where the rest of the team would go looking for her, trying to help her. They knew Paget was fired, but they also knew that CBS might change their minds later (like they clearly did immediately) and would need a nice way to bring Prentiss back. I will COMPLETELY AGREE with the sentiment that they glossed over it all too fast, they made the team get over it and move on FAR FAR too fast. But it felt to me like the writers wanted to pretend this never happened... like, the ENTIRETY of Paget's and AJ's firing 😅 like they wanted to gloss over it and return to the norm now that Paget was back, but that was doing a disservice to the characters, because they didn't get to process anything that happened from it. This is one of my biggest criticisms of CM as a whole honestly. LET YOUR CHARACTERS PROCESS THINGS. LET THEM SIT WITH THINGS. Don't just move on to the next horrible, traumatizing thing immediately! I know CM is a very episodic show, but like LET YOUR CHARACTERS FEEL THEIR EMOTIONS. And HOLY SHIT GET THEM THERAPY.

I mean it's cute everyone thinks JJ should have told Reid and that she was in the wrong and how could he have just forgiven her but that's an emotional only POV that puts lives in danger. This was the safest and only way for Emily. Also 10000% valid for Spencer to feel that way and JJ got it wrong not understanding why he feels what he does, but saying Spence shouldn't have forgiven her gives lack of credit to Reid who also will beneath all that hurt and betrayal understand why JJ did what she did and understand how the system works. Everyone here was valid and no one here acted perfectly which is entirely understandable and ok because life is full of contradicting experiences that can and do coexist together.
