I loved the scene where Justin’s character finds the “dad/grandpa” and immediately goes to him not afraid. It’s interesting because he’s the “ monster” technically speaking even though he looks like an old man. I actually felt kind of bad for the “mother”.
lmao Im gonna be the asshole here and say.. nahhh The mother is still "the monster" 🤣🤣 in reality, of course I understand what youre saying but at the same time the father can't rip off someones arm straight from their body or smash a head into bits LOL
I think his character was sincerely willing to help. His moment of self-reflection was sincere, but it also requires courage to help someone else in that situation, which he totally lost after he saw the She-Hulk monster rip a grown man in half. Everybody can talk a good game about being brave until you see someone ripped in half. It does not excuse throwing the person you accidentally shot off a tower as bait though. He was exceptionally foul for that. I loved how he repeatedly fumbled with the gun too. Hilarious
The Mother is the way she is because of the Father, he is the "barbarian". She appears a monster, but is ultimately a producr of his doing. It's actually kind of tragic.
@@pluckyduck11y did you feel like the tower scene was kind of movie logic lol. I mean wasn't he also one of her potential babies. I'd have thought the mother would just look at him like "wtf bro" and then go drag him back home rather then jump off a tower. When he first threw her i didn't even have time to understand the correlation so i was shocked when it worked. Like damn you're evil but well played sir.
yeah, this movie is about how constant victimisation can create a "monster"; all she wants is (firstly) revenge, and (secondly) love the film is clever because it shows Long's character, a rapist, sympathising with the actual monster, a rapist if there's anything missing for me, it's the purpose of Skarsgard's character
I hope you see this one Joseph! Just wondering if Nick or anyone else noticed the Justin Long character sings along to Donovan's Rikki Tikki Tavi about a mongoose who kills snakes and that Tess has a snake emblem hanging from her rear view mirror.
i think a really interesting thing about this movie is that by the end i found myself feeling sympathetic toward the being that was framed as the Monster. like yes shes killed who knows how many people but she is a product of many layers of incest mutation and certainly an insane amount of neglect. the way she protected tess from getting hurt by the fall and was gentle with her when she saw she was hurt, it nearly made me cry. also there was a moment there where it looked like aj was going to be redeemed but i dont think he deserved it so i was actually kinda glad when he died? like, men much better than you have died why do you get to survive this.
It took me a while to recognize the rape/abuse themes so prevalent in this movie, and how all of the men, innocent or guilty, are portrayed in a suspicious light and end up dead by the film's end
I love how they revealed the truth of the allegations against the actor when we saw him try to spin and gaslight the girl who helped him after tossing her off the tower. In that moment, it is clear that he did assault his coworker and deluded himself into believing he didn’t.
Hey you guys, thank you! just want you to know that waiting for this to air at midnight here in the Philippines was so worth it. You have no idea how you add fun to this mom at home's mundane day.
GUYS THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!!!! My local AMC isn’t getting this, and the closest theater to me that’s showing it is over an hour away (and I don’t have time to travel that far), so I was dying to get an in depth review with spoilers!!! 💜💜
Saw it tonight to avoid all spoilers. Solid movie. Glad it wasn’t supernatural (enjoyed this already with Black Phone). This stuff could really happen and that is horrifying. Glad you both liked it.
@@Deepfriedpajamas02 oh you’re really gonna act like you’ve never seen an 87 year old lady rip a man’s arm off and beat him into mince meat with it? Okay bud 🙄🙄

im officially convinced to leave this review and come back when i watch the movie, but imma leave a comment anyways to help with the algorithm hahahaha
Just subscribed, and I am so happy you exist! I love getting spoilers, and your take makes it so much better than just watching it. On the flip side, I'm commenting here because I am so glad you warned about not being spoiled for this movie. Worth the watch, for sure.
My question is - who was managing the bookings? Long calls his agent and she said there are none but yet there are two? Did I miss the explanation for that?
I admit I am a snob when it comes to horror. That being said, although I sincerely appreciated the story and thought the concept was creepy and full of potential, the movie Itself was ultimately a let down. The pacing was awful, as they spent more time developing characters than focusing on the actual horror. You get about 3 minutes of “horror” for every 20min of character development. I found myself feeling frustrated after the 3rd time something scary would happen, followed by an immediate hard cut to the beginning of a whole new sub plot. All that aside, the entire third act, especially the water tower scene, felt like a rushed mess. They were obviously trying to rush the exposition and explain everything in the laziest way possible (having the random homeless man show up and literally tell the entire story). The water tower scene was trash, and felt like the writers essentially gave up. She was shot and thrown off the water tower but they obvious couldn’t have her die so they were just like “fuck it” and she just walks away relatively unharmed from an insane fall. Overall just felt like they tried to do way too much and pack it all into the last 10min
"None of the men in this film do the right thing"? Didn't the homeless black guy do the right thing? Twice? I guess he didn't want to go down into the dungeon but can you blame him? I don't think any sensible person would say he "didn't do the right thing".
I've been waiting for you guys to review this film! Thank you!!! I absolutely love horror movies but I can't watch gore without getting physically sick, so I really appreciate your guys' summaries and reviews.
When Justin long character (AJ) was on the phone with property manager who sold it to both parties, the lady said the house hasn’t been occupied for two weeks . I thought that was weird . Any thoughts ? Was she in on it in some kind of way ?
look... I was fine with all the murder, mutants, inbreeding until you said barbarian is the anagram of airbnb 😳 . wait. let me go cancel a couple of reservations 😁😁 I love you guys. (BTW: I said nope during the trailer, so I appreciate they acknowledged her conscious choice to THROW away the good sense of intuition to SAVE A PERSON SHE DOES NOT KNOW..now the movie shenanigans can begin...
Just got home from the theater seeing this and it’s one of my favorite movies of the year for sure! It’s sick and twisted and brilliant! You said that none of the men seem to be able to do the right thing, but I’d argue that Keith does. He refuses to let her phone for another place to stay out in her car, he goes out to her car to get her stuff and he gives her the bed by taking the couch.
In the “Candyman” Teyonah Parris’ character says “nope” before going down the stairs to a dark basement 😂😂 I’m looking forward to seeing this! Loved this review!

two last things - Joseph didn't watch this? Wondering why. After thinking about it - I really don't know any woman who would hear a strange sound in a strange house and not get out of the house. Same thing for Keith. Their cars are right outside.
This movie was really bad! I actually left. I’ve never left! What am I missing? I love horror movies and this wasn’t scary and made no sense. No one would go to an airbnb in that neighborhood especially not an attractive woman! Im sorry but this movie was pathetic. When the monster jumped after tess, now that was some funny shit
