Shoplifter With 4 Prior Arrests Busted for Stealing from Hoboken ShopRite

- Around 8:47 PM on March 11, 2024, Officers Jessica Pizanie and Chelsea Tamborra with the Hoboken Police Department responded to a report of a shoplifting at ShopRite on 900 Madison Street. They entered the store around 8:52 PM and they walked upstairs to the loss prevention office. In the loss prevention office, they met with the loss prevention officer as well as the alleged shoplifter, who was identified as 48-year-old Talat.
The loss prevention officer informed the officers that the man did pay for 26 items totaling $151.47 in the self-checkout lane, but he left the store without paying for another 36 items totaling $300.87. After briefly listening to his pleas for leniency and his offer to pay for the items, Officer Pizanie placed Talat under arrest for shoplifting. He was handcuffed, searched, and escorted to the patrol car.
Officer Tamborra loaded the items he had paid for into the police car and Talat was transported to the Hoboken Police Department for further processing. At police HQ, he was searched in more detail. Officer Pizanie finger printed and photographed him, and he called his wife to come to police HQ and retrieve his property as well as the items that he had paid for at ShopRite. He was subsequently charged with shoplifting under 2C:20-11B(1) and remanded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

The New Jersey Supreme Court has previously affirmed in Salzano v. The summary of events was based on records that are “open to public view through open access to public records” as defined in the Salzano case. In Ramos v. Flowers, 429 N.J. Super. 13, the Appellate Division of the Superior Court has also affirmed the right to film law enforcement interactions.
Those ladies should give a master class in how to handle perps. Too many officers are too soft. You ladies rock!!!

These ladies might just be two of my favorite police officers that I have seen on these videos so far! As broke as I am I could never imagine stealing food, even when I’m starving. Not only bcuz it’s wrong, but also the embarrassment, trouble & time wasted, and getting arrested & going to jail … for a couple bucks worth of food.

I remember being like 14 and my friend and i thought we would steal aome candy from a gast station. Looking back, we were so dumb.. it was obvious as hell and we were the only ones in the store. The guy at the counter, who we kind of new and had been so friendly for years, he got so serious and told us to "put the fuckin candy back!" He asked what our parents would think and why would we take somethinf that wasnt ours? I can still feel the shame I felt that day, and even though he never told our parents or called the cops, I never stole again. This guy missed that great lesson! LoL

The loss prevention employee at this store is very busy. He knows how to monitor those store cameras very well. If people watched UA-cam they would know not to steal from this store.
The loss prevention guy (seedy, if you ask me) and the two female cops seem to be going thru the same racket (including dialogues) in case after case after case. If they are so good, why is it happening so often. Why are they not preventing it before they head for the door. Seems like a well oiled enticement racket to me.

shoplifting as a serious problem, however, I don't use the self check out. No issues. Use a cashier, keep them in a job and tell the stores to take the self checkouts and shove them. Very few issues with shop lifting at the cash register with an actual cashier.

He's not legally required to sign that store's document and I'm not sure why the police insisted on it.
I'm always wondering how many of these self checkout cases are actually an accident. Someone misses a beep; someone was talking on the phone and missed scanning; someone just not thinking?
I would like to also know how many times the stores were charged with theft when double charging someone for something?
Hire people not machines for this task. The corporate office knows the number though. They know that the human working the register cost way more than people short scanning.
That’s why I have no sympathy for stores when they get robbed. They don’t want to pay people and take away jobs from the community so that’s what they get.
You can tell usually buy the price of the item, how much they spend, and how they act at the check out. There are no accidents, every single video it's obvious they are intentionally stealing. What you're wondering is if you can get away and have an excuse as a get out of jail card. Don't steal.
It's when someone else is checking me out that the most mistakes happen. Ring up sack of rice 2x, coupons not going through, etc. at self checkout I can be more careful and make sure I got all my discounts! And it beeps when you scan an item, kinda hard to mess that up. I am sure you are right though... Mistakes happen for sure!! But these mistakes on the videos: it's always $100 of steaks or expensive swimwear that "mistakenly" doesn't get run up lol
This guy was an amature. He should know that if you pay for $150, you can "accidentally" not scan another $150. But you can't pay for $150 and not scan $300. That's just asking for trouble.
If it was 1 item out of $450. Maybe I could see that. This thief didn't even attempt to scan $300 worth of stuff.
