Cliff was only around 4 years but is still one of the best bassists ever
Ah yes my favorite Beethoven from them all 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗕𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗻.
Steve Harris and Cliff are my favourite
Good take, Barack Obama
yeah, and?
Didn't know cliff burton was only 4 years old when he died
R.I.P. Lemmy, John Entwistle and Cliff Burton
Bully Plays Not on the list, but also Jimmy Bain. Dio's original bassist who died last year.
Ian Hoswell Dio as a band is underrated as fuck.
RIP Jack Bruce
And Jack Bruce who should be number 1.
Tim McCord
I really appreciate Iron Maiden's bassist because he is so often not at all playing what the guitars are playing, especially in verses and choruses, and you can actually hear it.
That's what most bassists do
@@riptideog8783 I’d have to disagree lol usually it’s really boring or exactly what the guitar is playing but only on the E string
@@CodyTheBananaManGamingMusic it depends on the song, for me that is
@@riptideog8783 nope
that's right, that's why he's the best.
Imagine Cliff lived he aged like the others o_o
he would be the greatest for sure
Ozan Canca Metallica might be makin good music still
Zeke they do hardwired was nice
Nope😂
Ozan Canca James might even be in better shape. I think Burton’s death still eats at him.
@@carterpayte9463 a bit but it would be much better if cliff didn't die
this list undoubtedly has some of the best bassists there are in rock and metal. but that order is really wacky.
It's not a top 10, it's just a list
they should stop putting numbers on it. cuz everytime i read it as a top 10. it doesnt help that all their other channels, these are always top 10s
+TrashMojo i was going to say the same thing wtf flea in front of les wrong lemmy in front of les wrong myiung or whatever is pretty nasty though
+I play da drums b0ss It IS a top 10 list. The title is "The 10 Best...of All Time". It's not just a list of bass players.
I am with you but Steve Harris always will be the best!!!
HARRIS AND BURTON ARE THE BEST HANDS DOWN!!
Rest In Peace Cliff truly missed!!
Long Live Steve truly loved!!
You forgot Lemmy.

Les number 10.

Its not in any order tho
@@DannyBoi2112 yes it is

Les sucks as much as Primus sucks! He should be much higher on the list i agree if list is in order.
Although Lemmy is my favorite bassist, Les is wayyyy down in this list. He's way better than both Harris and Flea.
Dave Ellefson
First of all is david no dave, second he is one of the best with pick the only pick in the top was lemmy david has no chanse with this legends
@@dinobambino7724
Every David is a Dave, no matter what the politically correct brigade suggest.
WTF man David Ellefson is so underrated
True man,my favorite bass player
Joel 795 he should replace Lemmy
F.B.I Agent all Lemmy did was play with a pick and over drive on his bass. What Dave Ellefson did was use a pick and play the instrument incredible well. I still love Motörhead but come on, he was not that good. Sorry if you’re offended.
F.B.I Agent I have a poster of Hendrix on my wall
Any bass, drum, or guitar player that can keep up with Mustaine should be on any list.
How is Les at 10!??!
+sahe kek its not a top 10 countdown
+DylanTyler238 oh
+sahe kek Les is NOT METAL
+slmmdgg did you read the title? To add, critics have categorized Primus as funk metal. In the end though, Primus is Primus.
+DylanTyler238 if it wasn't, then they might as well name is "Best bassists in Rock and Metal.
John Paul Jones had always snubbed in most best bassists list. He was the secret weapon of Led Zeppelin. He had amazing basslines Led Zeppelin had to offer like Ramble On and How Many More Times. He was totally overshadowed by his own bandmates. He definitely should be in the list.

John Paul Jones is nothing compared to Geezer Butler.

That's a good point
Could be true but why would they count down then?

It says "best". So?
And no, everything isn't subjective.
It is subjective is you prefer Geddy Lee, Steve Harris or Cliff Burton.

2:34 When she asks you to "do that thing again".
Haha that's a good one.
Considering this is a Loud Wire List, I'm really surprised they decided not to put Justin Chancellor on the list.
Lizard Jesus tbh deserves to be here
@@ashleykrpata8913 I love Justin Chancellor as a bassist, but I think we can all admit that Tool is basically porn to loud wire, and they will find any reason to put anything involving them on a list.
@@lizardjesus With good reason, though! Tool is - hands down - porn for the ears
Chancellor and Jones in my opinions (Tool is my favorite band of all time so I may overrate them) have an incredible chemistry, Jones uses the guitar more to create atmospheres than to actually play like an ordinary guitarist, he indeed uses a lot of pedals, and this basically lets you hear pretty clearly the bass riffs, I'm also glad that he plays with a pick, because his bass lines looks just a little more like a guitar witch is fundamental for Tool's sound
It's impossible to make a list of only 10, but I agree that Chancellor should be in this list (maybe Loud Wire could make another list of "bass heroes" for the Billy Sheehans and similar)
JOHN PAUL JONES ANYBODY
Is he not here??
Cameron Naim sadly nope. no jpj, paul McCartney, justin chancellor or david ellefson
Cameron Naim that's some absolute bs
John Paul IS par excellent actually. I don't think he would make a mistake even if he was passing a kidney stone ( and let me tell you, those bastards hurt).
Cameron Naim they aren't the best bassists they just played in famous bands
Geezer should be recognized more for his songwriting then his bass skills
If it wasn't for him, extreme lyricism wouldn't have been a thing in Music, regardless of genres. The man was ballsy enough to explore untouched lyrical themes.
Pink Floyd fans: sweats nervously
@@yash1140 bro ,Johnny Cash existed before him😂you wanna hear extreme lyricism listen to him doing it already from the late 50s

Ryan is amazing!
OMG YES
My favourite is Justin Chancellor, because rather that playing an occasional solo, he can implement cool riffs in actual songs.

This can't be Top 10 in order. Les Claypool is such a technical player
When Cliff Burton died Les Claypool went for the audition they rejected him by saying you're too good to be the bassist of Metallica

Lmfaoo cliff at #8?
Cliff's bass playing literally revolutionized the entire genre of metal.
And, at only 4 years into a professional career. Imagine if he were living til this day.

Cliff Fucking Burton!
Ehh, where it Justin Chanchellor?
Is*
Look up bass covers for Schism and The Pot. Those distorted tapping parts after the first two-three verses are Justin.
Then you really haven't been paying attention :D They're all over the place: Jambi, Schism, Disposition, Reflection, Lateralus, The Pot, etc., etc...
Maybe it's hard to hear because JC uses a whammy for a lot of stuff (high pitch = non-bass tone).
boi just listen to vicarious
Chiken it reeeaally makes me mad that Justin isn't here
Cliff Burton 🤘
Steve DiGiorgio and Alex Webster need to be a part of the conversation.
Exactly my words
Steve always gets overlooked, even though he is the person that made fretless bass a thing it metal. Also, Sean Malone should have been on here too
@@duffzilla1292 His work on Individual Thought Patterns dropped my jaw when it came out. Good god, what a monster.
Where is Alex Webster ?
+Pokernaze Loudwire hates Death metal. They never mention the genre, like in the guitarists video, not a single death metal one. Despite that being one of the most physically demanding genres.
+Skip van der Zwaan (Neverminded47) that's a bummer. death metal has some of the most talented musicians I've ever seen.
bassman0704
I agrre. Chuck Schuldiner, man.
+Pokernaze not even the best death metal bassist.
Disappointed he wasn't mentioned.
I will say this before there was Cliff Burton there was Geezer Butler he was even the first bass player to use a wah-wah petal
Oh ok thanks 4 the info
Geezer's wah wah on "Sign of the SOuthern Cross" is phenomenal. Takes that immense song from great to iconic!!!

STEVE HARRIS IS THE BEST!
UP THE IRONS

Up the irons mate! 🤘
UP THE IRONS
its not a top list just a list but still Steve Harris is still amazing ill give you that lol
Hell yea
Cliff Burton (RIP) will always be the best for me. The things he could with a bass were incredible. To make a bass sound like a guitar for a solo is a feat I had never seen before and haven't since.
Yes, Cliff was/is number one!
rip
tbh if you think that making a bass sound like a guitar is a feat then first of all distortion pedals exist secondly john enwistle was the first to get that distorted as fuck sound in the 60s and that means you dont like bass because you want it to sound like another instrument cliff was great but people dont talk about him for his skill as often as they talk about him for his tone and his 3 year career and because he played with the most famous metal band ever i respect your opinion but the reasoning behind that opinion is wrong actually
I love Cliff, but overdrive isn't hard to turn on lol
Look.... Lemmy was an okay bass player.
That's it. Ok. No one in their right mind would think to put him at number 10.
Man... he was a legend. One of a kind for sure. Its acquired though and I get that
i agree. but he was revolutionary in the way he fucking played guitar on the bass
I would
I would
That transition from Cliff Burton to Geddy Lee was awesome.
No JPJ? Or Dave Ellefson?
Led Zeppelin!
ellefson is a great fucking player
agree with you JPJ should be there
Its because he used a pick and generally took a guitar approach to the craft. As for poor Newstead.......dude never had a chance
Ellefson never just took a guitar approach and who cares if he used a pick? Doesn't make it any less difficult dumbass
Where is Justin Chancellor!?
That man has the crunchiest tone I've ever heard
Toxic Potato Yep every single one of them
***** Justin from tool
***** Then I feel sorry for him
+Reece Crossley hes fucking some bitch up.
I always like to think that Cliff was a guitar player forced to play bass and he just embraced so well.
Based on that thinking i would really love to see buckethead play bass live
Sorry but Thats what Lemmy did that's why I think lemmy doesn't deserve the spot
Part of what makes Les Claypool so great is that he completely embraces all the weird things he can do with his instrument.
"Embraces"? He only does that... he's great, you don't need to be delusional to suck up to him.
Lemmy is a great personality and a legend but his bass playing was(with a lot of good meaning) just ok. Other Bassist deserve to be more on the list like John Paul Jones, Robert Trujillo or John Deacon.
John Deacon is too underrated! He deserve to have more recognition esp. with QUEEN as the band
Without lemmy you wouldn’t have any of these other people
John Deacon is average. And Mike isn’t better than Steve. Steve is one of the most important bassists in metal history.
@Ross Moriarty Slovakia. But i guess you dont even know where that is
Lemmy is a legend, but I think other bassists deserve more that spot, like chris squire or justin chancellor
Replace Lemmy with Dave Ellefson or Justin Chancellor and this would be a pretty accurate list. Lemmy is a pretty good frontman, but he isnt particularly technically skilled. Les is miles ahead of him. Miles ahead of a lot of these guys actually
You hit the head on the nail...
Agreed
+Jake McB wtf are you saying?! being technically advanced doesn't mean you're better. Lemmy is way more important than all of those other people, he should be number 1.
Tarek Mustafa This list references the player's individual skill as a bassist. So yes, being technically better should put you higher on the list. Motörhead shows up on every fucking list under the sun as far as influential acts go, but there aren't many people out there that hear a Motörhead track and just marvel at the bass. However, with bands like Tool, Iron Maiden, early Metallica, Megadeth (see their newest single), Rush, and Primus, the technical skill of the bassist is evident in many of the songs, if not all of them.
+Jake McB Agreed. I just posted that I wouldn't have put Lemmy on this list.
2:08 John coming with the most metal bass guitar ever
My #1 is geddy lee
Les Claypool only number ten?
Daddy Dadinson it’s not a top ten list despite the misleading title
Yes and fat fart Harris 1.
The sign of a great bass player ( or any musician in general ) is when you hear a song and you can tell it is him .
Geddy Lee is the one trully king of basists
Steve Harris.
@@rohantiwari7801 Iron maiden's lines are not as complex as the rush's ones. And geddy also sings. Steve gets more recognition because he created a technique, though.
@@josephmeyer6232 steve has the best basslines. He writes all those great Maiden songs and he does backup vocals.
@@rohantiwari7801 best basslines in what aspect? Speed? In my opinion he would only win in speed.
@@josephmeyer6232 geddy wins in technique but Harris wins on other spects.
Ryan Martinie is so underrated. He should be on this list. At least No.5.
Yes, his playing is insane and the fret tapping in happy is so cut out of the mix
He's just insane
Good list, but it's missing Chris Squire, Justin Chancellor, and David Ellefson. And for everyone noting the order of the list, keep in mind its a list of 10 BEST BASSIST not a list of TOP 10 BEST BASSIST.
Chris Squire anyone?
Yeh
No Tom Araya?
The loud wire guys didn't know abt YES...
Chris Squire is #1!
Finally a good list! Especially glad to see Geezer got recognition!
I felt so satisfied when i saw Geezer Butler and Steve Harris!
They are the true metal bassist gods! 🤘🏻❤️
Geezer Butler and Cliff Burton are my two personal favorites.
Geezer Butler and John Entwistle for me. Well, Geezer was inspired by Entwistle in the beginning.
Obviously Lemmy is a legendary rockstar and a true rock and roll icon. But his bass playing is not something that should be on this list. In my opinion, Ryan Martinie of Mudvayne on the other hand, should definitely be here, in top 5 at least.
i watched the video hoping to see ryan martinie over here. He is so under rated
Yep
