Freedom of schedule is definitely one of the biggest upsides but I also see it as a double edged sword. It can be difficult to be accountable to a schedule especially if you’ve worked a 9-5 for so many years where your schedule is essentially handed to you.
I certainly believe the pros outweigh the cons. Being an Insurance Agent, like any job, takes time and consistency. There is a lot of groundwork at play especially if you are newly licensed and building your book. On the lowest days I remind myself of the flexibility I have over prior jobs and to keep pushing on because of residual income. Many Agents that I have met over time all live or have lived great lives by dedicating their careers to growing their book. In my own experience, I can only speak from the Commercial side of P&C Insurance. Best of luck to everyone out there grinding day in and day out!
I remember the first time I signed with an independent agency they outlined a monthly Income driven by my potential sales. I didn’t even come near it but it motivated me to become a hungry agent and grind my butt off! New sub 💪🏽

But now that you pointed out that it's not a hustle or a side gig I'm started to reconsider. I kind of wanted to get into to it to help pay for college but it sounds like I probably shouldn't since I don't plan on sticking with it for more than 2-3 years.

I do have other questions Kenny. I deal with insurance agents daily for my job and they get on my nerves. Insurance agents for business insurance don't seem to like their jobs and are unprofessional. This is not for everyone to do.
You mentioned non-people-persons may do better in non sales roles like underwriting. Do you have any advice on where one would start to land a position in the Insurance Industry that isn't so demanding for us natural introverts? I work at an agency as an account manager on the servicing side of things instead of selling. I process the renewal policies (bill them, review them, send them to the customer), I make policy changes, I answer the customers question and help when there are problems like if there’s a claim or a billing issue or their price goes up or they’re policy gets non-renewed or things like that. Sometimes I write new policies if the customer needs another policy or a new customer calls for insurance (but I’m not really soliciting new business). You usually make more money selling (if you’re decent at it that is) but a lot of people don’t like the pressure of selling and not everyone is successful at it.
