Has someone told you that you should change the Pedal Commander settings while stopped? It may not work while driving, or check engine light. Sometimes it will work while driving but changing settings constantly while moving will throw it off. I have one in my 14' F150 Ecoboost, CAI/dual exhaust, no more turbo lag. Love it!!! Just bought a 15' Camaro 1LT/RS/one owner/43kmi), naturally the first thing I did was order one for it also. Note to the veterans, they have an AWESOME discount for service members, call them and they will help you out.
Just put the 9 drive pedal commander on my 2.7 mt taco and damn its sweet ! Nice mod!
Hi I have the 19 tacoma 2.7 does it really make it alot better? Because it really sucks right now gutless amd shifts way to darn fast. Thanks for any info
@@kirrbymichael1291 my truck is a manual 2.7. My friend has one on his 2.7 auto and likes it. It only helps the throttle feel more responsive. Takes the lag feel out.
To make a long story short... if your dealer says it’s not available, then call another.
My Pedal Commander will be here Monday for my new 2023 TRD Pro looking forward to seeing how much it helps. Enjoyed your video David.
Looking good those wheels on your TACO 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I love it bruv! Thank you for creating this content. It seems like it’s just for me!
Thanks for the information and video. You have a very nice truck there. I have the 2018 3rd Gen (Nicely loaded, 4x4, CRWL etc). After finding information on pedal commander, I am leaning to make the purchase to resolve some of the same issues described. Thanks again.
Rafael Diaz pedal commander isn’t a 100% fix but it does help and makes the truck more enjoyable to drive.
A better route to go is OV tune. It will do everything the pedal commander fixes along with the transmission and a bunch of other tweaks to make the taco much more fun to drive
Mr pedal commander, that’s a long history!
Whats up man! TRD Pro owner in Bowling Green here... we have the same vision on our truck up-grades... overlanding is what I'm into and the direction I'm taking my taco.
Thats a great looking truck and good job on the video it helped me more for what im looking for and hope you had a great Christmas as well
diabedus bckyazzup1 nawmean thank you for your kind comments. Thanks for watching and commenting you have a blessed day.
I second the pedal commander in sport+. 2nd gen with the 4.0 and it makes the pedal so responsive that I barely press down anymore cause I’m getting the boost I want at very low rpm
I went to the stealership the other day to get my blower motor replaced, 3rd brake light replaced and the TSB 0062-18 for the transmission gear hunting problem. They said I would have to pay $140 for diagnostics and if they could replicate the problem then they would reflash the computer, if they couldn’t then I’d have to pay the fee. I told them usually only happens when driving high speeds in mountains, higher elevation, or on curvy roads. There’s none of that near the stealer as they just did a quick 2 mile drive on the fwy. So they found nothing and said there’s nothing they could do as it’s a new state BAR issue to Toyota. Really pisses me off, oh and it’s Crown Toyota owner by John Elway.
I hope u are doing I miss your video I hope God is blessing you
Does anyone else think it’s bonkers that you buy these $35,000-$45,000 Tacoma’s and have to install items like the pedal commander in them? My cement 2018 TRD Off-road is like a hot chick..It’s just so good looking that I can’t get rid of it but it really has nothing great to offer the relationship. I have to turn the AC off just to pull my 2950lbs boat out of the water on a pretty gradual ramp. I understand the EPA’s influence and the industry focusing on fuel economy but I don’t have performance or good fuel economy so I should’ve really thought the purchase out more before I pulled the trigger. Anyone reading this make sure this is the truck you really want.
I use the shift sense and sprint booster on my 2019 offroad and it drives like it should, havent towed with it yet but Im lifted 3in with 33s and it is such a improvement over stock wish Toyota would fix the program on these trucks!
Over the last few months I’ve watch and read various reviews about Pedal Commander and Sprint Booster . Sprint Booster has been out “12 years” now features 9 modes Sport & Ecco mode no blue tooth though no big deal press a button your done ....before Pedal Commander. It works great same price range in my 2016 1.8 Scion iM hatchback I have a Injen cold air intake,Jet mass airflow sensor
nice truck looks really good
Ricky Clatterbuck thanks for the compliment, have some more stuff waiting to go if I ever get this CBI bed rack, I’ve had it ordered since Oct. 8th. Thanks for watching and commenting you have a blessed day.
Ricky Clatterbuck what year is your truck. For transmission issues I jut bought one 2 weeks ago I'm wondering if I need that .
SuperHikler 2017
They need to be geared down and a tune it fixes all the problems. Will put a smile on your face. Going to put front locker in the front when I do the gearing. And upper control arm. Your gas mileage will go way up after you hear it.
OV tune fixes the computer, re gearing is all over internet about the third generation Tacomas better fuel economy and more power.
nitro gears 488 or 529 gears.
mcse9073 Truth. I have OVtune and just regeared to 4.88. I’m on 32” tires. The tune is great and the gears make it a different vehicle. No more gear hunting and it brings the engine to life.
Did you do the tune at the dealership?
The ECT Power switch helps with that throttle and transmission response a lot too.
2018 Taco OR. During extreme cold(10deg or colder in Colo)The Pedal C will put the truck into Limp Mode. Don't use when freezing. As someone interested in trk performance, they have been putting on the larger Tundra throttle body.Interested in doing that to your trk????(would be grt viewing)------nice video-----
Look up ov tuning don’t go dealers to get the ecu update…you’ll get more horse power and better driving much better like driving a Lexus…plus it will fix the gear to shift better…it all over UA-cam on OV Tuning Tacoma
your keypad disabled just Go to Menu tab settings and activate the keypad :)
How
After installing 5.29 gears with my 17 off-road with Pedal commander it drives amazing. No updates that I’ve done.
Ben Pitcher I’ve heard doing the gears really helps. Thanks for watching and commenting you have a blessed evening
Ben Pitcher you’re not worried about voiding your Toyota warranty?
Pedal commander it’s a pice of 💩 sprint booster v3 it’s the original one
Where can you have 5.29 gears installed on a Tacoma, if you are not mechanically inclined at ALL ??
Nice vehicle choices👍
mr_hachi_roku 86 exactly
Great video. Great style.
I have a 2019 TRD Pro and I went through the same thing. They said there is no update for the transmission. I’m going to get OV Tune instead. Fixes more then just transmission.
Jabamby Brew congratulations on the 2019, the transmission up date is ok but not a 100% fix. The tuner is the better way to go. Thanks for watching and commenting you have a happy New Years
+Jabamby Brew I just got my 2019 TRD Pro and I honestly don't think the truck is slow at all. The transmission definitely sucks and the motor has 0 bottom end but I think it just takes a little getting used to driving a certain way to keep the tranny in right gear. As soon as I installed the K&N intake it realllllly woke it up but made this obnoxiously loud sound in the ladder half of the RPM range. I am going to try this pedal commander thing and see if what it does. I assume it's going to just down shift sooner with less pedal input which is meh to me but we'll see. Going to install it now.
There are tsbs for the transmission and driveability issues on pre-2018 and a different TSB for the later ones I have a 19 it just had the TSB 92-20
Very nice looking tacoma I'll say, I have a 2nd gen that's blacked out
If I have my eye on the OV tune do you feel like I would be wasting money on the Pedal Commander...but much like you I cant continue driving this 2019 TRD OR like this...I just turned 15,000 miles today.
This was very helpful thankyou 👍🏽
Just came across your video I enjoyed watching. If I may suggest looking up nitro gears on UA-cam. They give a thorough description of exactly what you are feeling with your truck and a solution to the problem. I own a 20 trd pro. Getting on the freeway I had to really get on it, the truck was constantly up shifting and down shifting. I almost never went into 6th gear either. The first mod I did to the truck was gears and saw a tremendous difference.
Thanks for your comment and maybe will help someone. I actually sold the truck about a year ago. Thanks for commenting.
Nice looking Taco. I’m trying to do what you’re doing. I have a PC as well. What tire and suspension are you running?
You should bump you seatbelt up a nouch it's too low it would break your shoulder right now just heads up
Actual gas mileage is better as the computer thinks your tire size is factory. Thinking about putting the TRD air intake on my 4Runner. Does it really make that much of a difference?
Climb Grenadiers I’ve check the gas mileage with the computer on truck they run very very close. I added the TRD intake mainly to have the TRD intake,, I think it should have come from the factory with it. I honestly can’t tell any difference in performance having it, It has a little more throaty sound when you get on it. Thanks for watching and commenting you have a blessed day day.
@@davidsfamilyhobbiesadventu1956 Thanks for the response. I thought $400 for that intake might have been too much so I'll probably not install it. Not sure if Toyota is waiting to solve all of the Tacoma problems before they refresh the 4Runner or not. If they put the same 3.5 liter engine in the 4Runner you will get a lot of boos when it comes out. The current 4.0 liter is adequate with no mods, with mods it becomes inadequate.
Climb Grenadiers yes we bought a 2017 4 Runner at the same time and it has no flaws on performance as far as motor and transmission.
Re gear with some nitro gears in the rear end
I sold the Tacoma
@@davidsfamilyhobbiesadventu1956 I think 2nd gen is where it's at
This reminds me of a call from Roy d Mercer lol
I have a 16 and bought the six speed manual. Looking to get the pedal commander if it Gives a better throttle response
It does speed the response up.
i have 19 pro lifted 33s if this pedal commander doesnt help im selling it pretty dissapointing such a good looking truck
My 2017 had low compression at 40k
@@KyleRattay really what did toyota say about it
Your truck looks great! What size tires are you running? In addition, to run oversize tires what did you do to suspension on your TRD Pro? I own a 2017 as well and back when I first purchased they didn't have any leveling kits to run 285. Haven't look into raising the truck to support larger tires. Could you tell me what you did? Thx
NIce TRD PRO.
Merry Christmas too. Thanks for the video and glad the transmission tsb is helping. So pedal commander still responds to the app but not the box?
Yes the transmission up-date helped and I really like the pedal commander and I hope they will send me another one because I'm afraid its going to stop working. I started having trouble with it connecting blue tooth and so I pulled it out from under the dash and noticed the lights aren't lit up on the device and the buttons do not work anymore. I final got it to connect back to the app and that's the only way you can control it right now so that concerns me because I'm afraid it might stop working and it helps the truck so much. thanks for commenting and you have a Merry Christmas.
@@davidsfamilyhobbiesadventu1956 I'm pretty sure in the instructions for the Bluetooth control you can going to settings and you can turn the LEDs on the handheld unit on or off you can also lock out the buttons.
Never heard of a transmission update?
Interesting topic about the pedal commander, I've never heard of it. I have a 15 Trd sport, as pictured. Is this available for mine or just newer models?
Dan D. Not sure if it’s available for that vehicle you would have to go on there website and see. I’ve sent mine back because it was acting up and now I’m waiting to see what they do.I’ll make a video as soon as I hear something from them. Thanks for watching and commenting you have a blessed day.
They dumb down the map from the factory to meet federal gas mileage regulations. Like those "water saver" shower heads you gotta drill out.
A TRD 4x4 in automatic is useless. Manual shift 100 times better. Lot better control and way more get up and go even without Pedal commander. With it, you'd spin the tires off in 2nd gear.
I have the Pedal Commander and just got and installed the OV Tune. Matt the designer of the Orange Virus Tune is saying he HIGHLY doesn't recommend running the Pedal Commander with the OV Tuning. Why I don't know
DARRYL PHILLIPS are you saying with the transmission update??
@@DavidFDay No with the Orange Virus Tuning from Matt Wilson
I have a 2019 off-road lifted bigger tires with a PC. I’ve only had it a few months and I’ve never really tried or even needed to get past 85. I am visiting Colorado Springs (high altitude issue maybe) from Texas so have and I’ve just noticed that I can’t get it past 90 would that be a transmission issue included in that TSB. It almost feels like when I get to 88 or 90 it’ll start to trip down in miles per hour like weird governer. Any thoughts
What do feel about 2020 trd pro, I'm on an allocation list but unsure of auto/stick. Has the 3rd gen issues settled some??
Alvah Thompson I love the looks of the truck I just wish they would straighten the issue out with the transmission, if your on a hilly road it will constantly be shifting 5,4,5,6,5,4,5,6. My wife has a 4 runner and her vehicle doesn’t shift like that. The truck has LOTS of power if you mash the excelerator down it has all the power you want but if your just cruising it feels under powered but its not under powered because as I was saying it has plenty of power when you get on it. Ive always said they don’t have something right with the transmission and motor combination. A lot of times I keep the truck in 5th. You will not find a sharper looking truck.
It's time for a 2020 Tacoma, but I need automatic and have been researching the transmission in the 3rd generation Tacoma. Seems like the engine is bullet proof, but the transmission is still iffy. Love 6spd but at 54, it may be time for auto..
Have you or anyone reading this driven the truck in eco mode? does it help with mpg or is it drivable on the hwy? Also does it help keep gears on the lower mods like eco? great review, God Bless Brother!
I actually sold the truck. As my Grandaughter’s grew the back seat just be came to small and the constant shifting of the trans just wore me out. Great truck just needs a trans update. I never drove in eco mode.
quality of the tocomas have gone down since they are made in mexico now but yet the price goes up haha
Made in America as well................crap!
Happy Memorial Day, thank you for the Very informative video, how has your pedal commander been treating you as of now? Any issues occur to the vechicle it’s self from the used of the PC? I’ve already read of a few reviews on Amazon with the issues from pedal commander causing the vechicle to not starting up or transmission locking gears issues, but their was more positive reviews than bad ones.
Chris P Ive not had any problems so far with the new pedal commander but I can tell you with the old one quitting on me on the interstate I’m always a little worried something might happen again. Thanks for watching and commenting you have a blessed week.
that's exactly I'm worry about too, when you mention it went out on you on the freeway from the old PC, did the car just turn off or the pedal throttle just went back to stock while the old PC just turn off? @@DavidFDay
Chris P I had nothing the truck just fell on its face.
I have the Sprint 3 Pedal Booster. I wonder if the pedal commander is better?
ERIC leal I don’t know about the sprint booster, where does it plug in? If this pedal commander keeps acting up or if they don’t warranty it I may try that. Thanks for watching and commenting you have a Merry Christmas.
@@davidsfamilyhobbiesadventu1956 can you please tell me what you do when you take your truck in for work ? I bought a new trd sport and a pedal commander b UK t my 1st service is soon and I'm worried to void the warranty
JGstunts22 the only time I have taken it off is when I was taking it in for the transmission update. When I leave it on I turn it down to city so its not jumpy when they drive it back. If you take it off or put it back on be careful and have key phob no where close to the truck so no power is going through the system.
@@davidsfamilyhobbiesadventu1956 ok so when you remove it or put it back in don you have to unplug the battery? Or just not have a Ron near the truck ? So unlock the truck, take the fob back in the house and then plug it in or take it out ? Any help would be appreciated I have my 7k miles check up here soon
JGstunts22 I unlocked the truck and then took the fob back in. Probably would be best to unhook the battery the instructions don’t say that they just say do not have the key fob around truck.
Hi there. I know this video was two years ago but I just put the pedal commander and I’d like to know did you ever get it resolved also what bumper do you have on your truck it looks really good thank you
Got it resolved and that’s a warn bumper
Actually the correct terminology is the ECM gets a reflash
In Eco mode does it give you better fuel economy?
What really happens when you drive in the Eco mode setting? Thank you.
Get your self a sprint booster v3 not the pice of 💩 pedal commander
Ive never ran it in eco mode it adjust the power down to much.
It drops the response down to much for me, I run it in sport mod all the time except when i do go off road i will put it in eco mode so the pedal isn’t so touchy
Hi...I'm interested in purchasing my first Tacoma, looking at a TRD Sport. Looking forward to following the channel. Enjoyed the video.

Doesn't work on the Prius with a pedal Commander
Did you ever put stock wheels back on to see if mpg increased?
no I have not put stock wheels and tires back on. thanks for commenting you have a merry Christmas.
Traded mine in for a Nissan Titan with the V8 and a 7 speed. Put a pedal commander on it and run it in sport. The Tacoma 3.5 and the tranny combo is truly pathetic
So I called and they said that there is no updates for my truck. And that they entered in my vin number and nothing came up for it.. but that it I want I can still take it in and they can run a scanner on it to see if any faults have came up.... so basically just waist my time..
Jesse Martinez I’m sorry,, maybe your truck already has the update or you need to check with other dealers. That’s what I got from my dealer where I purchased my truck. The dealer where my wife purchased her 4 runner the people in the service Dept. Seem to really like Tacoma’s and are driven to customer service and happiness. Sorry again.
Does the pedal commander help the transmission from the hunting for a higher gear. 2019 camry.
No
I thought ur not suppose to change it while driving
When you added the warn bumper and winch did you do a small lift to bring the truck up from weight of the warn bumbper/winch??
Also, does your truck front end feel a lot heavier after adding them? I have a 18' Toyota Tacoma Sport.
Thank you
Greg
Have you ever used the pedal commander with cruise control? Does it impact acceleration when automated by the trucks CC system?
No does not seem to help when truck is on cruise. Thanks for commenting
Since it is only on the input circuit for the accelerator pedal, it should have no effect whatsoever on the acceleration rate in cruise control. On my 2019 Subaru CrossTrek the adaptive cruise control works just the way it did before plugging in the unit. The ECU is controlling the cruise control acceleration and deceleration ramps separate from the throttle input signal.
Are people buying this for their manual transmissions? Would it even do anything?
Oh yea. Just installed one today and woohoo! Its nice on my manual tacoma.
I recently purchased a 2018 trd off road. Do you know if the transmission update applies to mine?
Michael Steele I do not I’m sorry. The way I found out about the updates is through a friend. For some reason the dealers aren’t telling people about it. Thanks for watching and commenting you have a blessed and happy New Year
I had it done on my 2018
I bought my 2018 TRD OR back in May 2018 and I had the update done during its very first 5k service. You do notice a difference but to this day I’ve never gotten the 17mpg city or 20mpg Hwy. Best I’ve done in the city is 15mpg. And it’s totally bone stock! Oh and that’s with 91 octane here in Texas.
Michael Steele I got 20-21 mpg on a trip to Florida all hwy driving. Normally I would get 16-18 hwy/city driving, but one I started the mods the gas mileage went down to 13-maybe 15 on a hwy trip. Hey David, thanks for the video. It's been some time since the video. How was your experience with the Pedal Commander? Still like it, have it?
It’s been working fine. Have you checked into sprint booster, a lot of Toyota guys run that one also.
So which is best? The stock tacoma with the pedal commander or the updated transmission without the pedal commander or thirdly the updated transmission plus the pedal commander?
Aldean Louis
The pedal commander gives the truck more pep and when you start to push the excelerator pedal it response quicker. I like driving the truck with the pedal commander better. Is it a cure no way but it helps. Something isn’t right about the truck and transmission set up. Sometimes I will set the gear shift so it will not go to 6th because I get tired of the shifting back and fourth.
I would like to try the sprint booster but $800 verses $400 for pedal commander caused me to go with pedal commander. Hope this helps the truck responds better but it’s not a fix at highway speeds.
@@davidsfamilyhobbiesadventu1956
Hmmm. The sprint booster is $289 on amazon n the pedal comander is $299. Do you have more faith in the sprint booster?
Aldean Louis
I don’t know anything about the sprint booster I just know a lot of guys run it but I think it came out before pedal commander did. I thought at one time the sprint booster was $600-$700. All I know is the pedal commander is easy to hook up.

phillip that roof rack and lights have some wind drag to them also. I’m on a trip in the truck now I got 15.8 running 80-85,, running that speed I think is probably good,, that also was with the pedal commander which I believe is messed up. I have taken that off when I got to my destination and am going to do a mileage check on the way back home to see if there’s any difference. Thanks for watching and commenting you have a blessed New Year.
I did get around 20 on highway until I added roof rack, front and rear steel bumps, winch and wheels and tires. I would get 17 18 combined city/hwy.

13.7mpg????? On the highway?????? You could drive a full size truck for that, and still get way better fuel mileage. And with a $50,000 price tag you could have literally picked nearly any truck on the market and had more room, mileage, power, and comfort than the Toyota. To each his own I guess.
