This is very exciting. When the boards get small enough to fit inside most cars, the sport will expand considerably. Obviously, your board is a surf-oriented SUP, but shortening can also be applied to flat-water SUPs. On flat water, I've found that more board length only really helps with paddling speed. Tracking on a short board can be mitigated by using a long, swept-back fin. I started with a 12.5ft inflatable. When foiling became popular, I bought a 7'9" RRD (SUPfoil, wind, wing do-it-all board). For the heck of it, I attached a long, swept-back windsurf weed fin (select delta max L). To my surprise, on flat-water, the 7'9" sup paddled straighter than my 12'5" and it wasn't much slower. Since I could toss the shorter board in the back of my wagon, and not worry about inflation/deflation/drying at home, I ended up going paddling much more this year. I haven't touched my bigger board. I know that flat-water paddling boards can go even smaller, because I was able to paddle my 6' wing-board. I had to j-stroke aggressively to keep it straight because the US box fins I put in the foil-tracks weren't aggressively swept back, but I know paddling will be straighter with a longer, more-swept fin that can be placed more aft. The best-selling vehicles here in America are pickup trucks, the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CRV. The average pickup bed is about 6 feet, and the length behind the seats in the Honda and Toyota are about 6 feet. With a driver and passenger, these vehicles can easily carry boards between 6 and 7 feet long inside by laying them diagonally or turning them on their side and having them protrude between the seats a bit. If the driver is alone, the front passenger seat can be folded, and an even longer board(s) can be laid upon the dashboard. In conclusion, I can't stress enough how convenient it is to be able to place our hard boards INSIDE our cars. It becomes soooo much easier to get on the water when we don't have to mess around with roof racks or inflatables. These boards are also easier to maneuver through, and store-in small apartments. I hope industry trends give us the option of smaller boards in every category.y
Hi Kevin thanks for taking your time to share your thoughts with us. You've got some really good points in there and it's great to hear your feedback. I think maybe we should play around with fins and super short boards and see what we come up with. Maybe we should even do a blog video about it? Top comment thanks again Reuben
Looks cool, glad you guys are still out their using smaller pro shape wave boards. There’s nothing like it when the waves are good ! Be interested to hear how you find the drop in width / length but added thickness packed in to it.
The volume is good but every I go narrower then 25.5" I just struggle. I have a 7'2" on order and am really hoping for an adult size handle. I think those little 2 finger handles are so stupid and make a light board feel heavy if you have to walk very far. I also wish they would just make the switch to an FCSII center box so we can just run a wider selection of fins. Quatro does that on their Carve series and it's awesome.
You will not be disappointed I have that exact size 87L , insanely lightweight . It has me frantically trying every diet weight loss plan known to man kind.
Yes it has the full handle, I also thought it have the small hole like last year's models ! weight ... well down to 97, also had to make an unexpected purchase of a scale to figure out what the hell was goin on .
@@asansurut8602 Oh good on the handle. I used to work for Starboard before I opened my own SUP shop in San Diego and thought that tiny handle was such a not great idea. Yea it makes the board lighter but it makes it feel heavier. Congrats on down to 97. I'm only 70 and am currently on a 93L Quatro Carve. I love the board but looking to try something new. I haven't been on a Starboard in years.
Eric, the board is great but unfortunately I haven't ridden the carve. I wish I ordered the 7'2 as well as it would be great for the choppier days. The compact length of the pros is really great. Stoked to have the small one though. Thanks Reuben
This video is from Nov 2020...now is March 2022...Did you ever manage to surf this one in normal conditions and what is your opinion? It was really too small?
I have the same board but 1 size bigger and it has a big, almost too big, handle. I received it a month ago and my foot slide in it pretty often... I'd rather have that small one... It's weird to see that width because all the bigger sizes' width hold (almost) within 3inch ranging from 30" to 26,75". And then you have that one size smaller losing those 3inch width all at once when coming down from 7'2 to 6'8
Yeah the drops in size are very Dramatic. I also feel the volume differences between all the boards is quite large too. Thanks for feedback about your handle always good to know what's happening to others. Reuben
Thanks for the vid. I'm close to laying down some hard earned cash on a 7'7 and was wondering if you have had the chance to ride this yet? It looks like a really chunky board with fat rails - I'm not convinced yet! Any thoughts appreciated.
I had one very quick go on it in really bad conditions. So cannot give you any feedback yet. But we will be using it a lot over the next month and into our SUPboarder Pro test. Ask me in a months time and we should be able to give you a good idea. Reuben
@@SUPboardermag Impressive, that's pretty heavy for a board of that litre, I struggle on a 92 L Fantic Prowave when it's not clean and I am 80-82 kg dry. Here's hoping you have free time to use it Sunday/Monday when the surf cleans up 🤙
To be honest I do it to scare you. I may look like a reckless thug... but I have never cut a board in 10 years yet. But I guess they'll always be a first :-)
$3200 for a board and one has to use inserts for the fins??? Why do they not provide the exact fins that fit the boxes that they installed...they could do better
I actually agree with you Mark. I would prefer standard FCS fins and a perfect fit. But understand some others might be using FCS 2 system now. Thanks Reuben

This board looks brilliant love to see it in the surf!!
Definitely would love to see more on this board please!!
Sure thing
Too small for me LOL I prefer the style of longboard SUP’n. 👍🏽😎👍🏽 I also love the way you say “Starboard”
Me too, I would sooner thinner rails and bit more length especially for British isles conditions, or just surf a short board.
Yes not going to disagree with you on that one. I still love my long board. Reuben
@@alexfuller818 So true... Yes is this too small? Should I just be short board surfing I will find out. Reuben
It looks perfect for my Spaniel !
When are we going to see it in the water??????
Ok I have paddle it now... and it floats 😀. I will get the video together. Reuben

So true. Been SUP foiling alot over the last month and cant wait to get back on the rail again. Reuben

Finally a bit of SUPsurf on the channel instead of wing/Inflatable/foil.. cool guys wil be looking forward to the new posts/blog

Apart from the wing test and the part 2 to of getting into wing and surfing foil this week. LOL then we are done 😉
Definitely want to see the videos of this board on the flat water and waves
