Just started a new character got all the way to Stormblood only to call it quits. The writing is horrendous. In a month or two in the game I haven’t made a single friend. It’s like playing a single player MMO.
My experience couldn't be more opposite. I find myself striking up conversation ingame with random people who are doing something odd or interesting at least once a week.
