- After using GHS "Fast Fret" string Lubricant / Cleaner for a few years, I decided to give "String Fuel" by Music Nomad equipment care a try. Which is better? Watch to find out.

After watching your review I ordered String Fuel right away. Thanks for making this video. Cheers!
Owned both , Nomad for the win imo.
Thanks for the review. I just placed my order from Amazon via your link. Take care! 🤘👍
I ordered String Fuel yesterday. It's good to know that I made the right choice.
still my preferred choice.
Dude I was wondering what that smells like, it does smell like that surfboard wax smell. I couldn’t put my finger. Thanks brother. Keep up the great work. Ps on rocking
Solid review buddy, hopefully your UA-cam income improved lately
Thanks and nope, I just checked and seems they lowered how many subscribers I need for monetization, which I am well over... but seems I am still lacking a good 800 hours more of watch time to be able to get monetization again.
2:18 did you know you don’t need to wrap the cloth around it? There is a little compartment on the little lubricator piece that you can store the cloth in!
Maybe if they designed that white cap to screw onto the Fast-Fret applicator to create a tight seal it wouldn't dry out after a couple of weeks. I bought two of them and the caps just fall off and both are dry now.
apparently you can 'recharge' them with mineral oil / baby oil as someone commented below, have yet to try that but will pick some up to see if it works
I have a question, can i still use the fast fuel if the white pad have a lil bit rust that came from the guitar string?
Yeah, should be fine
I've always used Fast Fret but I'd like to try the String Fuel.
Liking the width of it and the compartment, plus the fact that you can buy refill liquid for it too... sounds like a winner.
Twice the price of fast fret though when I did a search for it and postage of £4.99 which I thought was a bit steep.
My search continues to find someone offering free postage :O) Buggered if I'm paying a fiver to send such a small item !
Yeah, shipping rates will only get worse. I sell a fair amount of things on my etsy page and it gets annnoying to have to figure out a fair way to charge shipping with it going up every year. Best to order some along with a few other things (strings, picsk etc) from the same place to make the shipping worth it. With fast fret here is a good hack...just buy some mineral oil and use that to refill it.
@@Guitar101Ramstein Ahh.. I wondered if my old Fast Fret could be revitalized, so it's mineral oil.. Thanks for that info. :O)
@@SONGSTICKS yeah I tried it after someone mentioned it in the comments and it works well. Just be sure to wipe it off your fretboard after you use it one the strings as it is not good to let soak into your fretboard.
@@Guitar101Ramstein Here's a good hack to offer in return. I make all manner of things including guitars and other instruments. I need to fill holes sometimes, good enough to be painted over and not noticed. I recently discovered a guy on youtube (Zimmertech) making the most exquisite fishing lures and he fills the weight cavity hole using Bicarbonate of soda / baking powder and super glue. I tried it and it works a treat.
You just fill the cavity with the powder, compress it and level it off and then soak it with super glue.
Needs to be the runny kind, not the gel. When it's dry it sets rock solid and takes a super smooth finish.
Last night I did some experiments with other powders, such as some powdered enamel pigments and it works with those too. So I shall be trying to use it to decorate a guitar at some point.
@@SONGSTICKS Nice, I recently started making knives and doing some wood working. If you have saw dust from the same color of wood, you can blend it in epoxy to fill any holes, cracks etc as well and does a good job at hiding any cracks or gouges etc.
Only $8? Yeah, I'm buying this right now.
Well I noticed that the String Fuel notes seem to be higher!
you mean brighter?
@@Guitar101Ramstein No, Higher in pitch!!! Bwaa ha ha ha ha!!!!
Is there any testing that actually proves that you get any more time between string changes? All the videos just assume you do.
Maybe a stupid question, but if the strings are coated with a slippery oil, wouldn't bending be a little more difficult? I imagine the string slipping off my finger and making a lovely noise.
It's a subtle change using it and not everyone's preference. I think it's safe to say though if a string doesn't do what you want it to it has little to no blame on using string cleaner or lubricant
Lol so your saying operator error? Used to hate when my Forman would say that.
The active ingredient is mineral oil, it is much more effective to add a few drops to a cloth and slide up and down grabbing the string. I very rarely change strings and they don't even look dirty, it is more important to clean it regularly. I clean strings with alcohol and then with mineral oil, so cheap to buy.
yes good to know, usually use alcohol at home, but when touring, it's not so convenient to carry around so then use the string fuel/cleaner
are you using a food grade mineral oil? The only thing I am finding on the German ebay is only being sold as something to use on brakes for a car or bike, and not very cheap.
@@Guitar101Ramstein It is not rated as food-grade. The cheapest way to get it is to buy baby-oil, it is pretty much all mineral oil. That said, I was gifted nomad string cleaner, like the way it smells (like bubblegum)
