  • This week, I'm back in the truck camper! Although I'm confronted with one of the realities of truck camper ownership, it was still a fun little trip regardless. I AM itching to get back on the road for a long trip soon though, stay tuned!

    Actually Johnathan you need to tighten your tie downs a little snugger those things are way too loose for that much weight? The rubber mats are good idea also because you had a flat slick surface (the wood under the camper) so the rubber will help but even with your theory of being bad to tighten them down you need to give them a couple turns because when you pulled on them after reinstalling the camper I can tell you they are too loose. Just a suggestion from experience.👍❤️

      @thenumbertwo2 Рік тому +5

      I agree, they did look a little too easy to pull down to me. If the tie downs are Fast Guns they should have little rubber o-rings on the threads that are used as tension indicators. Position them flush with the turnbuckle body before attaching them. Once tied down, the rings should end up 1/4 inch lower. This is the ideal amount of tension (about 300 lbs) to keep the camper secure without causing excess wear and tear.

    I'm relieved that this video does not, in fact, have any sledgehammers in it. ;) I'm learning so much about truck campers from your channel alone. They seem fun but there's so much to be aware of, at the same time. Great to see you cooking again, as usual.

    Your comment about grease in the holding tank is quite smart really..... There are companies that charge people lots of money to clean out their holding tanks from all the grease build up... I prefer cooking outside using portable stoves because of all the grease that can occur from cooking meals.... I also have (2) kitty litter pans that I use for dish washing... I can use the sinks inside my motorhome or use hot water and the kitty litter boxes outside.... I can dispose of the dirty water at the campground and not use the holding tanks at all....

    Im no expert and actually just got my 1st Truck Camper but it looks to me like your hold downs are almost pulling straight down. If they were on more of an angle pulling your camper forward it would hold into position better. At least getting the front ones to pull towards the front should make a big improvement.

    Nice work. I just had my camper off the bed today and was thinking about that too. I have a rubber bed liner then some 2x4’s and 2 sheets of 3/4” wood screwed together. So far it works.. been this way for a few months now. I was thinking it could be nice to make some kind of slide out drawer underneath…Home Depot parking lots make great workshops and auto part store parking lots making a nice shop to work on the truck. Always nice to find that shade tho. Also I’m jealous of those electric jacks.

    Those back tie downs should be angled towards the front and in towards the truck more and should be the tighter ones to keep the camper from swaying and shifting and the front tie downs should be firm enough to hold it in place.

    I enjoy your videos and I love your cooking. I think the only additions I would do is the colored lights you've done before in your campers, and I like the warmer white lights, they're less harsh.
    You also have a lot of blank wall to the left of the stove that would be great for spices, cooking utensils, or maybe even hanging pots, and that would be kind of cool.
    😊 But other than that, you have a really nice camper, and not much has to be done to it.

    Another great adventure - just not the adventure you were planning on. Guess that keeps things interesting! Glad you found a fix for the sliding. The rubber mats are a good idea. Any concern with moisture building up between the camper, the mats and the wood base? Over time, that might be an issue.
    I'm glad, too, that you didn't let the sliding issue sidetrack you from getting out in the woods. Probably my favorite moment was when you first get up and pop out the roof hatch. That view was amazing!
    Gotta say, loved the dish you cooked up. Made me wonder, where do you get your recipes? I'm definitely going to try that one!
    Last, but not least - loved the outtake at the end with your salt container. That was fun and I'm glad you included it. It is good that you can laugh in the midst of a frustrating moment. Here's to more adventures!

    You might need a thicker, more cushiony mat. In 3.5 years of off roading a heavy camper, I have had to fix broken aluminum framing on the bottom of the camper twice. Not an easy fix because you risk your holding tanks falling out the bottom. A thick heavy mat that evenly distributes the camper weight in the truck bed seems to be the fix.

    I've been truck camping for many many years now - I have a Lance Squire on my SRW F250HD with a Powerstroke Diesel. To me, it looks like you have a few things going on. 1) Your camper looks too high, and 2) Your front tie downs aren't angled forward far enough to provide the necessary force to hold the camper up against the front of the bed or the block you may have in between the front of the bed and the camper. Try using a 1/2" or a 1" 'horse stall mat' from Tractor Supply Company. Many many truck camper folks I know use one. That and the more acute angle of the front tie down keeps my camper planted no matter what! If you need a pic of what I'm talking about I'll email you a pic of my front tie down

Mouth watering-so much so that my fiancé and I decided to try out your marinade. Wow-delicious! It’s got a hint of sweet & sour but not overpowering. We concentrated on the chicken this time and used boxed long grain wild rice (I know, I know 🤭) but the flavor of the marinade compensated. We decided that we will make this again, going all in with the couscous, tomatoes and corn. Looking forward to more adventures and recipes. 🙂
