What would be more terrifying? That a precursor race survived a war in heaven... Or that the young race barely into the stars only survived that contact... because they're an offshoot.
Whenever I listen to stories about how humanity sacrifices themselves for the galaxy or unite together and stop fighting amongst themselves when faced with a common threat it sends shivers down my spine and goosebumps up my arms.... So much potentiation if we just worked together alas most of it is wasted.
I wouldn't say wasted, our diversity in thought and culture provides a diversity of progress and development. A truly united culture and thought leads to stagnation and ridged thinking, such a culture would be impossible to look at issues from different perspectives and angles. Only seeing what the rest expect to see. Look at NPCs in the media, all saying the same things in only slightly different ways across channels, the exact same talking points and bias.
Wait at the end of Humanity United the story used 'we hoped to never see humanity united again' with past tense that means something caused humanity to unite again
Well you could interpret it that way Hoped can be a future imperfect or a perfect past in English. If the author wanted to be clear and your interpretation was the intent the phrase 'had hoped' ( Past Pluperfect ) would be used.
This theme is pretty much on the money. Presented with an external threat, even warring humans are likely to put aside their differences, perhaps even permanently.
It's the "only I'm allowed to tease my brother" mentality. We all may disagree on something, but we all agree we are human and Earth is home, and no one fucks with our home.
@@raptorep hell we may not even all agree on what’s actually harming earth. I know plenty people who deny climate change and the extinction rate generally going up every year, but even they wouldn’t sit back and deny the reality of the situation if it was the actions of another species that harmed our planet. In that way it’s just as much “it’ll be our failure that kills our planet, never your victory” as it is, “no one fucks with my brother but me”
This reminds me of SCP 1762 "Here be dragons". In SCP 1762, there's a box filled with friendly entities that resembled dragons made of origami. The paper dragons were very friendly and playful until an event, a war, with unknown entities render them extinct. Kinda similar to what happens in the first story
To be fair they technically aren't extinct in that SCP. A good number of _other_ species went extinct in the war to defend humanity's Room, but the Dragons themselves (along with a number of survivors from different races and species) were relocated after burying humanity's Room on Fantasy's side.
Only at 6:29.....so far I'm thinking it's 50/50 odds that humans are either the new enthusiastic race...or the one race of myth that resided in the Blighted Arm. Or both and one is a lost colony of the other
i also though the new race was humans and did not find out until the end it was not humans. Humans were the old race that lived within the Blighted Arm. Humans had sealed themselves off the the rest of the galaxy not for the protection of themselves from the galaxy but the protection of the galaxy from them.
Greetings Mentlegent! For the Rhyhtm that is Algo Story 1: And stay out! Story 2: Yeah, as I've said before, you do not want to see us unify, however temporarily.
The last story has me imagining a battlefield on some distant planet, humans fighting humans, when every soldiers com lights up or buzzes to life with the words "Sol is lost" and every one of them dropping or lowering their weapons. Every one of them giving each other this knowing, pained look, and then pulling back from the planet, their fleets mixing, and returning to the cradle of Humanity in silence.
I want to guess the friendly "bipeds" are the descendants of dogs, and we're the equivalent of a crotchety old man that welcomed them with a smile on their manners, but also cocked our shotgun screaming "Get off my lawn" when the trespasser staked his claim.
Story #2. And then there was one less species in the galaxy after that. Wonder what their name was, it was never said. They got erased without the rest of the galaxy ever knowing who they were so I guess they will not be missed.
Another earth destroyed! How ever many versions you burn or blow up, it will not stop humanity. The original got burned long and long ago anyway. Our true cradle is gone ! Yet humanity remains. We always find a suitable world, call it earth, and we start over!
The welcome mat was definitely not out. And of course some idiot decides to push their luck. Someone was stupid enough to get involved in a family fight. Pretty much the worst possible thing you can do when Humans are involved. The one thing that will unite us against outsiders.
What would be more terrifying? That a precursor race survived a war in heaven... Or that the young race barely into the stars only survived that contact... because they're an offshoot.
My thoughts as well
Me against my siblings; me and my siblings against our cousins; me, my siblings, and our cousins against our neighbors...humanity against the universe
Yup
This.
You do where that came from?
a good example of something infinitely scalable
FYI the exact quote is "I against my brother, Us against our cousin, the 3 of us against the world."
Humanity united? Someone has colossally f-ed up

@@raptorep Agreed, our divided status is a strength.
@@anondabomb but only if we manage to unite in time of crisis. It's a strength, but also an exploitable weakness.

At best it would only be temporary as once the test is over the politicians will need to divide us up again so they can stay in positions of power

The blighted ones are in Sol and have humor.
@@anondabomb damn true
but can you imagine a humanity without humor?
it's something i would seriously fear
"Sol/Terra is lost, we are lost." Would end up with the entire universe under our thumb begging not to be destroyed 😂
Twist on story 1 was obvious early. Tried to make the new species sound like humans but went out of the way of saying name, which gave it away

Nice twist in the last paragraph of the Let Sleeping Dogs Lie story. Pretty dramatic perspective shift. Well written and enjoyable. 👍
Both great stories. Here be Dragons indeed.

Spite and vengeance, one of the few things capable of uniting all mankind
I don't know what ever happened to the Tier 5 member "BobtheDragon" but I miss the way you used to say his name...
He will be missed where ever he is

Nice done as always Agro. I am interested in the Who, What & Why of what happened though.
Edit: 'grumble grumble' autocorrect 'grumble grumble' 🙄

We do know who they are, "the Filthy Cowardly Xenos that dared touch Earth"

I wonder what kind of weapon humanity use to exterminate whole species 🤭😂😂😂😂😂 if there a survivor all i can think is they become human slave... 😂😂😂😂

RUN.

For some reason I can imagine most of these stories being inspired by Stellaris playthroughs
Oh an SCP reference was not expecting that
I mean, that phrase has been around for hundreds of years and was used to say this place is dangerous on maps

Nothing unites us quite like a common foe

As it’s been said before only humanity can kick its own ass, nobody else
