I reckon people are getting confused about the point. There's a market for vinyl, and then theres a collectors market, two different pursuits. Most people own a vase, but most wouldn't shell out for an antique Chinese vase. Different. Interesting video, thanks.
You're correct but I notice collectible prices start to affect the 'normal' market or even the non-vinyl market when it comes to physical music media. I regularly see chancers trying to get hundreds of dollars/pounds for hard-to-find or out of print CDs that are not even OGs. When I see that, it does annoy me so I don't start jumping up and down when I see rare vinyl at a crazy price. Then again, if someone is rich enough and willing to pay a stupid price for something like this, that is the collectors market as you say and not much we can do about it, other than refuse to pay silly money for such rare and 'exclusive' things and refuse to take it seriously.
@@jimmycampbell78I disagree. The price of Led Zeppelin I has probably decreased if anything because of the recent reissues. Before 2014, any copy of Zep 1 you could find was $40. Now most used early copies are $20-30 because the reissues are so available.
For me I love the stories behind some of these pressing. The RL Zeppelin II, the Velvet Underground and the Emerson lawsuit, the butcher cover. For me it’s the stories and being able to hold in my hand an artifact that embodies the story. Oh and listen to it :-) So I guess I’m a collector of stories. But if I want something for the Fidelity I go for audiophile pressings. ;-)
Thanks for another great and interesting video. Love your enthusiasm and passion for music. Wishing you and your family, from here in UK, a great Christmas and a happy new year. Cheers and thanks again.

Hello Dillon, Yes, a very, very great Led Zeppelin record with the original turquoise lettering. The record is getting more and more expensive, as I see it, my trusted record store currently has one in the shop that costs 1200 dollars. Is this record really worth it? I've seen this record for 3000 dollars, but 5000 is a bit too expensive. In 10 or 20 years, it could really be that many records in general will increase in value, of course including this rare Led Zeppelin with the turquoise lettering. It's a big wish of mine, I've been looking for a long time, I hope I can find the record for 1000 euros, it would be the holy grail for me. Congratulations again on this great pressing, enjoy it! I wish you and your family a wonderful Christmas. Best wishes from Germany, Julian
Your test pressing is the vintage toy equivalent of a wax figure sculpt or hand-painted carbalon hardcopy. That is to say, the impetus for the very thing we all know and love. It’s such a rare pleasure to acquire or even hold a single thing which served as the basis for all that would come later. You would have made a killer vintage Star Wars collector. Digging around and discovering that which was previously unknown is the entire currency of the hobby.🎉
Well, what about dudes like me then? I’m just interested in owning a copy, with the music I love, on vinyl. Original, 3rd pressing or reissue isn’t important to me. Only the music. Luckily, the used records I want are mostly very cheap in the stores and online. And most of the reissues I buy are very much mainstream and wellknown, so finding a good deal takes about 5-10 min. However ; my Achilles heel is Mike Oldfield. There I have no boundaries whatsoever. I pretty much have everything he’s released on vinyl. As far as I know. Even guest appearances, bootlegs, unofficial, collections and so on. I also have all ”not-on-vinyl-yet” cd’s awaiting an eventual release on wax. It’s like an………..………..itch.

I have one! In 1969 I bought it from a friend for £1 as he didn’t really like it much. It is in near mint condition (one small mark on one side) and the cover is in much better condition than your example. I really only really found about its rarity a few years ago!
Great video! Really interesting story behind this record. I’ve seen boots of this at record shows a few times. Almost tricked me in my early years of collecting 😂
I have one of those. I paid £1.99 from a uk charity shop about 20 years ago. It has the misprint on the record middle as well if I remember right that adds a couple hundred to the value. I played it through once and it's mint. Sleeve is nearly perfect with a little bit of shelf wear only on the bottom. I got some great buys over the decades but that's probably the daddy of all of them. Well a couple of Elvis gramophone 78's apparently are worth a lot and also an Atlantic split 12" promo with Ben E King on one side and Osiris on the other which according to Discogs is up there in value.
..huh...haven't listened to my first press NZ flipback cover copy for an age...(I'd have to grade it "beater++" but it still spins round and noise comes out!) ...gonna go dig it out now and blast the neighbours...thanks for the reminder Dillon...keep up the good work...
In the early 2010s my brother in law popped into his local charity shop in Bristol and there on the shelf was a turquoise copy of this album for £6. Selling records as a sideline he knew what it was and snapped it up. Not being a Led Zeppelin fan he sold it, but not to me. He only told me after it was gone! I think he got £300 for it.
I certainly should have paid £300 around 2 or 3 years ago at my local market for a copy. It was a reasonable VG/VG and the record wasn't the true 1st press so I passed but in hindsight it was still a foolish decision. My pal bought it and now he has two copies. I would never prioritise the turquoise Zep as obviously it's just the sleeve you're paying for and there's plenty of 4 figure psych/prog rarities I'd rather own. Still a cool curio to own though and if you can afford one go for it...why should anyone else care. Cheers Nigel
I didn’t notice that, that’s hilarious. I think a lot of people think they have a real one or mistakenly catalog them, but who knows, there could be 10,000 out there who knows! But I have seen other entries where way more people own them than exist so I think there’s some human error in there

As a record, no it's not "worth" $5k. If you can find someone to give you $5k for it then take the $5k or wait for someone who'll give you $10k. Discogs says that I have plenty of records worth $150 but I couldn't find anyone to give me more than $40. I'm not sure that being able to find one person in the world willing to pay a super-high price means that thing is "worth" that amount. Personally, I don't think that one delusional person with too much money sets the value of that item. My car is worth $15k .... just because some idiot would give me $50k for it doesn't mean it's "worth" that much.
But people have paid that for them in the past, as I said in the video, I don’t think it’s worth quite that much but collectors have paid that for it in the past.
The Price of a record, or any object, is dependent upon the Value assigned to it by degree of scarcity or in this case “rarity”.
