The most overlooked country artist from the 70's - 80's was Ronnie Milsap. Milsap was born blind. He was among the most influential and popular country music performers of the 1970s and 1980s. At age five, he began attending the Governor Moorhead School for the Blind. There, he discovered a profound love of music. Milsap was ncouraged by singer and pianist Ray Charles. He discovered Merle Haggard. He performed Hag’s “Today I Started Loving You Again” at the Los Angeles nightclub Whiskey A-Go-Go. Charley Pride was in attendance and encouraged Milsap to move to Nashville, which he did in 1972. From 1976 through 1978, Milsap was the dominant male performer on the country music charts. He scored seven back-to-back No. 1 singles, including the megahit “It Was Almost Like a Song.” His biggest successes came in the 1980s, however, including his highest crossover success, “(There’s) No Gettin’ Over Me” (1981). Ronnie Milsap would achieve 16 additional country No. 1s before the ‘80s had ended. Today, he is credited with six GRAMMY awards and eight CMAs, including four turns as Male Vocalist of the Year. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2014. Here's a few additional songs to react too: 'No Gettin' Over Me'; 'Lost in the Fifties Tonight'; "Any Day Now'; 'Daydreams About Night Things' etc. I enjoy your reactions and your voice. Keep on!
Ronnie Milsap was my grandmother's favorite, and nothing reminds me of her more than "Smoky Mountain Rain." My 15 year old daughter adores the version with Ronnie and Dolly Parton.
Im 33, Smokey Mountain Rain is the song I chose for our Mother/Son Dance... My wife and I's First Dance was Nymphétamine - Cradle of Filth. While it was an easy mutual choice between us, and I'm the one who introduced the song to her - years before.
I remember this song and became a fan if his because Ronnie had several country crossover songs. This was Ronnie Milsap's 35th single to be released, the song immediately became a major hit as it peaked at No. 5 on the country chart and No. 8 on the Adult Contemporary chart. The song also went as high as No. 23 on the Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart.
Finally, A Reactor reacting to the great Ronnie Milsap! I love this man and his music!!! Britt, Ronnie was a studio musician on Elvis’ “Kentucky Rain”. Through this, a friendshipgrew. In tribute to Elvis and Kentucky Rain, please react to Ronnie’s - Smokey Mountain Rain.
This song is so perfect. When he says he can’t see in the song it fits his situation die to his blindness. Not trying to poke fun. Heck he plays a piano and I can’t to that. I love Ronnie Milsap
Ronnie Milsap is a GOAT, and one of my favorite artists of all time. PLEASE do more reactions to him. Lost in the fifties tonight, smoky mt rain are both awesome songs.
I was fortunate to get to go a concert that featured both Ronnie Milsap and Ray Charles on the same night - it was at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. TWO LEGENDS. The quality of Ronnie's voice live was INCREDIBLE. What a talent - thanks for reacting to him!
Ronnie is a fantastic singer and piano player with the best of them. The story about Ronnie is that he was born blind, and his mother rejected him, so he was put up for adoption, later when he became famous, she wanted to see him, and he rejected her, how true the story is I don't know but it has been around for many years. You're doing a fantastic job and will be in the hundreds of thousand soon, IMHO PS: still waiting for reacting to Country Charley Pride and you will be very surprised, as he changed Country Music for the better.
Ronnie grew up in an orphanage as he was blind. If I remember correctly he had some sight in one eye but he had a mean teacher at the orphanage and he picked on Ronnie and he hit Ronnie so hard in his one eye that had some sight that he lost the sight in that eye too so then he was totally blind. He taught himself to play the piano in the orphanage and started his own band. Most people today don’t know what true hardship is and through it all Ronnie has been positive, happy and when all odds were against him he worked hard, didn’t give up and succeeded. He has a great story. He and his wife were married for a long time and when she passed it was really hard on him. He’s a great pianist and of course a fabulous singer and he always had the best hair too🥰 He has lots of great songs. My fave is There’s No Getting Over Me, Nobody Likes Sad Songs, Pure Love, Back In The Fifties Tonight, the list goes on and on. ❤ Back to this song it has double meaning. A stranger in my house that I can’t see. Obviously he’s meaning his wife is having an affair or about to have an affair but the fact that he’s blind in real life I think also gives this song a double meaning. He’s playing the piano and he’s saying he feels the presence of another man someone that he can’t see and you see a man going up the stairs behind him. At least I think it has double meaning.
I'm surprised you're right that's my uncle and he lost sight all the way when he was hit by a teacher..as u can see in my picture I'm at his piano with some grammys and awards behind me so I know the story that's family
I saw Ronnie in concert back in the 80s and he grabbed the mic and left the piano walked within inches of the end of the stage to sing. Before he sang he said the band said he had about 3 feet before he would fall lol. I think everyone at the concert almost had a heart attack lol
A lot of Milsap’s music has a 70’s funk even though it was considered country music back in the day. I saw him years ago at a George Straight concert. Taylor swift opened for them. I had 2nd row seats, and it was worth every dime.
Just found your channel by searching for reactions to this song....I LOVED it!! I smiled, I laughed, it's awesome to watch people have fun with these reactions the way you did here. I'm a fan. 😉
There was a story from a long time ago about a charity baseball game held in Nashville. All the players were famous country stars. Ronnie was the umpire.
Ronnie Milsap doesn't get enough credit for being one of the greatest in country music. He had huge crossover appeal, amazing pianist and vocalist. I was happy that the CMA did put together its Country Forever Now and Then mashup (worth the reaction) with country stars of present and past that Ronnie Milsap was included, a well deserved recognition of his place within the musical genre. Another blind pianist who also doesn't get enough recognition for his contributions to country music is Ray Charles who in the early 1960s was told he was crazy when he wanted to release a country album and knocked it spectacularly out of the park with recordings of Georgia on My Mind and I Can't Stop Loving You among the hits. Thankfully, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame as has Ronnie Milsap.
Funny that you should mention Ray Charles, as he may have been the one to have pointed Ronnie Milsap to a music career. When Ronnie was in college studying to become a lawyer, he went to see in concert one of his musical idols…Ray Charles. After the show, Ronnie Milsap had a chance to met him backstage. During their conversation, Ronnie told Ray that, despite being in college and spending 12 years of life being trained in classical music, he really wanted to pursue a music career. Ray Charles had asked Ronnie Milsap to play something on his piano in his dressing room. Three songs later, Ray told Ronnie "Well, you can be a lawyer, son, if you want to, but there's a lot of music in your heart. If I were you, I would follow what my heart tells me to do." Ronnie never forget Ray’s advice and would later on pay tribute many times to Ray Charles both onstage and saluting his music with other artists.
I also seen him with George Strait at the Mohegan sun in Connecticut about the same time...he was the whole show George had a off night in my opinion..
I saw Ronnie in concert in his prime, awesome showman. He climbed up on the piano during the song and jumped off! Concert was also Merle Haggard and Barbra Mandrel. Ronnie put on the best show.
Hi Britt, you are quickly becoming my favorite! Someone commented below that Ronnie Milsap is blind...not sure if you caught that. I saw him in concert in the 80s and he was awesome!!!
I never listened to Ronnie myself growing up, but my dad did and this was one of his favorites of his. I got my love for music and singing from him and every time I hear this song I cry, because my dad passed in 2010 and it reminds me of him singing it
This song was written by Mike Reid who played defense for the Cincinnati Bengals at one time. He had a couple of hits in the 90’s off his Headed for Home album.
My big cousin Ron killing it :) He is in the top three of most #1 hits in country music, but originally cut a soul album before singing with a country delivery.
I love the Deborah Cox reference. Love my Canadian soul queen!!! However... this is Ronnie's song.. and was a huge hit when it came out!!! He's incredible. The Sunglasses are to protect his eyes from the lights... as he is blind.
Ronnie Milsap has had a ton of hits, too many to mention, but be sure and check out this one. "Lost in the Fifties Tonight (In the Still of the Night)"
OMG it has been a long minute since I heard this song! Great song, glad you reacted to it! Brings back memories.😊I had always taken it as both the other man and her.
A fun reaction to an a very talented singer. He has many great hits worth reacting to. "Lost In The 50s Tonight" is a fun song and in the video he gets to drive a car. Seems like I remember an interview where he said only in the magic of a music video would they let him drive. One of my aunts wanted her nieces and nephews to play his song "What A Difference You've Made In My Life" at her wedding. I managed to get the guitar part down, but we never did get the group organized enough for us to play it for her. To summarize my suggestions are: "Lost In The 50s Tonight" "What A Difference You've Made In My Life" "Smoky Mountain Rain" "It Was Almost Like A Song"
He played the Jambo in Morristown OH a few times it was known as the Super Bowl of country music. One show in the mid 80's he can onstage sat behind the piano sang the first line and said "it's not right." Couple minutes later band started again same place he stopped, "it's still not right." A third-time same place. "Dang it, it's still not right these people paid good money to see a great show and worked hard for that money. Fix it!" He came out the 4th time same place stopped and shocked his head. "About time let's go!" Put on one of the best shows that weekend.
Ronnie has perfect pitch, which is very rare. He was rehearsing with a full orchestra once and said that the third violin was out of tune. The leader didn't believe him, but someone made them check. He was right!!!
I worked with Ronnie's brother-in-law for a while at a GM dealership back in 2008. I never got the chance to meet Ronnie, but from what I learned his brother-in-law was his road manager for a long time.
3:42. "And when I ask if she's alright, she never has too much to say." I learned from experience that that's a bad sign.. When the girl starts becoming more silent and less responsive with you. She's either got someone else on the side, or apathy has sat in when it comes to her relationship with you.. And if she continues to not be very responsive despite you trying your best to get her to communicate, you might as well stop wasting your time and effort, because she'll soon be gone.. Already kinda is, by not communicating with you.
He has sun glasses on because he is blind. Not sure of a gentler way of saying that. He is INCREDIBLE !! He is the original singer of this song.
Why do you need gentleness to say he’s blind ?
I bet he would want your gentleness
I bet he’d want to be treated like everyone else
Why is this society so afraid of words and truth and so damn being afraid hurting someone’s feelings ?
Didn’t your mothers ever teach you
“ sticks and stones “ ?
We are such pussies any more !
😂 it's ok to say blind
Oh my god stop! this world is so sensitive that you think you can call him blind!!??

If you're going down Ronnie's rabbit hole it is very very deep . He brought rocking guitars into country music .
Love Ronnie, but others did it a decade earlier.
Like Barbara Mandrell did.@@mwilliams1330
Ronnie is really amazing. I love his piano playing. The sunglasses are because he is blind. I've never seen him without them.
I have once.
What a difference you made in my life shows off his vocals
This is the original version. The amazing thing is that Ronnie Milsap has been blind since birth and learned to play the piano.

Ronnie Millsap is a LEGEND! Smokey Mountain Rain is a must. He also did a great duet with Kenny Rogers She's Mine.

Lost in the 50s tonight ! Great song.
Ronnie Milsap is fantastic! I couldn't play the piano with 20 👀 & he can play & sing while being blind!! Very talented man!!
Ronnie Milsap "Smokey Mountain Rain"
Even though everyone loves 'Smokey Mountain Rain," which I do too, this is my favorite by him...i love the rock side of Ronnie...Ronnie Rocks!
I saw Ronnie in concert back in the 80s and he grabbed the mic and left the piano walked within inches of the end of the stage to sing. Before he sang he said the band said he had about 3 feet before he would fall lol. I think everyone at the concert almost had a heart attack lol

Britt needs to react to Barbara Mandrel!!!
So sad her career was cut shortly and abruptly by her car accident. I loved her!!!
I love Ronnie Milsap, he has a lot of great songs.
You have started down a deep rabbit hole! Ronnie Milsap has at least 40 number one hits! Great reaction!
In the 80s, blistering guitar solos were everywhere. Not just Rock, but Pop, R&B, Country,...everywhere.
I was a kid when I heard this for the first time, and I remember thinking You can't see them because you're blind!!
He also has "Daydreams, about night things, in the middle of the afternoon!"
Ronnie is one of my all time favorite singers!! He played the piano in Elvis’s recording of Kentucky Rain song.
Hi Britt, you are quickly becoming my favorite! Someone commented below that Ronnie Milsap is blind...not sure if you caught that. I saw him in concert in the 80s and he was awesome!!!
I have seen him concert many times. He is an incredible entertainer!!! ❤❤❤❤❤

Good question. He's blind so it could mean either. Never thought of it possibly meaning her.
This song was written by Mike Reid who played defense for the Cincinnati Bengals at one time. He had a couple of hits in the 90’s off his Headed for Home album.
Again: A great reaction-video! :)
"Stranger in my house" was the first Ronnie-Milsap-Song I listened to, in the early 90s. :)
man Ronnie Milsap can sing
My big cousin Ron killing it :) He is in the top three of most #1 hits in country music, but originally cut a soul album before singing with a country delivery.
Best song Ronnie ever did.
Ronnie has so many good ones...check out his greatest hits !!!!
An AMAZING HIT MACHINE!!!
I love the Deborah Cox reference. Love my Canadian soul queen!!! However... this is Ronnie's song.. and was a huge hit when it came out!!! He's incredible. The Sunglasses are to protect his eyes from the lights... as he is blind.
You need to watch some of his live performances, he's fantastic.
Ronnie Milsap has had a ton of hits, too many to mention, but be sure and check out this one. "Lost in the Fifties Tonight (In the Still of the Night)"
Love ❤❤❤❤
Love Ronnie Milsap, my favorite is Lost in the 50s tonight
He’s got so many hits. Can you check out “Pure Love” or “(I’m A) Stand By My Woman Man”?
Both GREAT!!
You have a beautiful voice.
OMG it has been a long minute since I heard this song! Great song, glad you reacted to it! Brings back memories.😊I had always taken it as both the other man and her.
Dear Britt, I would like to see you get some of the older country stars and listen to them and see what you think. Thank You, John
Great song great artist and great reaction. FYI the reason he wears glasses is because he is blind
Iconic voice of the late 70s and 1980s
Britt you are a hit!!!
One of the best concerts I ever went too. Kenny Rogers and Ronnie Mil sap !
I saw Ronnie and The Carpenters together. Also a great show.
You should check out Jeff Healey “Angel Eyes” Jeff was also blind, but was the lead singer and played guitar as well.
Here's another song by Ronnie you need to listen to and react to is Smokey Mountain Rain
Plays piano like WOW!!! Voice is phenomenal!
Mike Reid, who played with the Cincinnati Bengals for several years in the early 1970s, wrote the song.
Why can I relate to this song?
One of the best voices in music.
Ronnie is the best.
Automatic LIKE for reacting to Ronnie Milsap.
Go deep down the Millsap rabbit hole this guy has talent
I'd love to see a reaction to Charlie Rich "Behind Closed Doors".
Another great country song with a piano.
Folks all love that country cookin'
Ronnie was throwing some frisbees to the crowd and turned around from his piano and said "I didn't see yall back there" then threw some towards us.
He's very good
A fun reaction to an a very talented singer. To summarize my suggestions are:
"Lost In The 50s Tonight"
"What A Difference You've Made In My Life"
"Smoky Mountain Rain"
"It Was Almost Like A Song"
He'd actually know if he felt someone! Being blind it would heighten!! He said in the beginning, I swear I feel the presence of another man!!
I had no idea there was a video for this song. Knew it as a radio hit, then as a track on a compilation tape....
He played the Jambo in Morristown OH a few times it was known as the Super Bowl of country music. One show in the mid 80's he can onstage sat behind the piano sang the first line and said "it's not right." Couple minutes later band started again same place he stopped, "it's still not right." He came out the 4th time same place stopped and shocked his head. "About time let's go!" Put on one of the best shows that weekend.
Ronnie is great, you gotta listen to Smokey mountain rain
I love Ronnie Milsap! My favorite song by him is "Inside." I hope you react to it soon. :)
you would LOVE Smokey Mountain Rain....
Mike Reid wrote this in 1984. Mike played in the NFL. He also has some singles.
Smoky Mountain Rain is his biggest hit.
he's wearing sunglasses because he's BLIND!
Ronnie has perfect pitch, which is very rare. He was rehearsing with a full orchestra once and said that the third violin was out of tune. The leader didn't believe him, but someone made them check. He was right!!!

His song "Smokey Mountain Rain" is must to listen to.
