It’s not a big deal if you’re just traveling through. There are so many options to help you get around.
I went there almost every year and my tips is just be confident and talk to them with English. Add some additional hand signs and also prepare google translate. You will get there! 💪🏻✨
If ur just going to stay in Tokyo area, English and a little bit of google translate is honestly good enough. Most popular shopping areas will have staff with passable basic English skills and almost all restaurants have English versions of their menus. Also keep ur passport with u if ur shopping, in many stores it will be tax free if u buy anything over 40 bucks.
I lived in another city and I'd say 1% spoke and understood English
I think 2nd Street is jp company. I’m from jp and almost each city has one. the Harajuku one has the best selection of kicks, anyway.

In case you're still in Japan, you don't need your passport to buy kicks! They were probably trying to explain that you buy them tax free! But since you didn't have your passport, you were gonna have to pay the tax too..

I was in Japan a month ago. Went to all the sneaker stores as a US size 12.5. I was laughed out of every single one of them. Came home empty handed.

I find these sneaker head videos amazing on UA-cam like people be buying garbage quality shoes from these giant brand for $500-$600 and you can get a quality pair of shoes for like a couple houndred and a few more you can get shoes custume like at those prices you could get like any shoe custume made out of quality materials instead of cheap it blows my mind but always interesting to watch

I will say this about the Unboxed app legit check… I had a pair of Nike SB Dunk Low Summit White/Wolf Grey 2018’s that passed as legit on Unboxed that failed Authentication checks with 4 other apps/websites (including PayPal & Grailed) since they had to be returned & refunded… it was even pretty clear to me they were off, definitely lost some trust in Unboxed after that one. I emailed Unboxed just to give a heads up & the the person I corresponded with doubled down they were real, even with clear evidence they weren’t… it was wild & wasn’t a great experience

Curious if bigger sizes like 14s were hard to find there. Tokyo looks like an awesome place to visit. Sneakerhead, or not. Seems like it’d be a good idea to pack light and leave room for all new pick ups. That was crazy!
I went to tokyo in 2018 and I wear a size 13. No luck where I went. Most stores went to size 11.

PSA for anyone using an Android phone... downloading the app from the store is a waste of time (it's only a petition to sign for an android version release). I find it weird (and slightly misleading); the app says it was developed in 2017, so over 5 years, but still no release.
Actually 2nd Street IS from Japan. The heat in Taiwan stores is also ridiculous. But also the prices are high even on those really worn. However there are some good finds.
