    Though it was kind of a running joke with him -- remember when Ben was playing with a Barbie and Ross freaked out. Monica then revealed that Ross used to dress up as a woman when he was a kid. Ross probably does have some girly tendencies and is insecure about them, peaking when Carol turns out to be a lesbian. The reason why Ross was so freaked out at a man being a nanny was because when he was a boy his dad told him that he was too girly when he played inside and told him to be a "real boy". After that he probably grew up thinking that is was bad to be, you know, not entirely "macho" because of that.

    As offensive as Ross is here, I think people over analyse this episode as supporting homophobia but in reality it is only Ross who has a problem with Sandy while everyone else loves him. If everyone was fine with a male nanny then the writers would be accused of being politically correct. My only problem with this episode is that Ross gets his way as always.

    • @noeliaponcedeleon2319
      @noeliaponcedeleon2319 8 років тому +9

      + jasiekel86 En realidad no es que Ross se sale con la suya, más bien no iban a seguir mostrando al actor que hace de Sandy porque fue de invitado, de haberse quedado hubiera sido complicado y limitaba la trama porque luego estuvo el problema de la niñera sexy que le gustaba a Joey. Igual al final Ross en realidad acaba llorando como bebé y dejando en evidencia que le molestaba Sandy solo porque a él de niño lo reprimían emocionalmente y por eso no se siente cómodo con un hombre que expresa sus emociones sin prejuicios

    • @Iennda

      @anubis7457 7 років тому +23

      Sandy wasn't gay.. he even said so >.>
      The problem isn't homophobia (though it is homophobic to assume a feminine guy is gay), it's that he refused to let a male do a traditionally feminine job simply on virtue of his gender.
      In fact, the fact that he was straight made him even more offputting, since if he was gay he could understand it.

      The sadness of this scene even though the reasons might be different but no couple will hire a male nanny, why because of pedophilia. It is not fair but stats state that the number of men who abuse kids are astronomically greater than women, even the most enlightened couple will never give the responsibility of their kids to grown men no matter how nice the guy is. The fear would always be there and no sensible parents would take such a risk. I don't think I ever heard of male nannies, young boys can be babysitters, but a fully grown man in charge kiddies never happening. There are even stories about parents sending their kids for sleepovers and they get abused because the neighbour is secretly a pervert so it is very dangerous world out there for kids who rely on parents good sense to protect them.

      Simply Visual You’re completely wrong. This would be aired and the audience would (accurately) think Ross is a dick. And they’d watch the whole episode and understand his point of view by the end. It’s a good arc.
      There would only be an outcry if the episode had ended with Ross somehow looking good in his stereotyping, judgement and insecurity over being ‘manly’.

      Ross is definitely the jealous type as we've seen in the past when Rachel was working at Bloomingdales and made her and Mark's co-worker relationship seem way out of proportion and did not trust Rachel, but I do agree that this was very extreme for him. Ross has two kids (and has experienced being a single father with Ben and taking responsibility to co-parent him with Carol from time to time on his own), so why would he be so opposed to a male wanting to help care for his second child? Sandy clearly loves children and perhaps he and his fiance would want to have a a child of their own one day, so that position would have given him some experience taking care of a child. Another thing that doesn't make sense is that Ross himself has a PhD, has gone to graduate school, and has experienced the application and hiring process when it comes to finding a job, so you would think that he would understand that what he was doing with Sandy during the hiring process was very unprofessional of him such as assuming an applicant's sexual orientation.

      You have to understand the time this was set in. Throught the 90's and early 00's, the idea of a male nanny/babysitter was seen as strange because it was considered "not manly" for a man to take care of a child. Of course it's ridiculous, but unfortunately it's what society thought and it was ingrained in a lot of people's mindsets.
