Congrats Gaz if it wasn’t for you I would still be struggling with most of the R20 workings Be good to see you do a guitar and bass track as mix from start to end Well done mate Cheers 🏴🏴
Thanks! And noted. I haven't really showed much guitar and bass stuff on UA-cam because I've used some of that music in other places and didn't want to run into copyright problems against myself. But I should make something just for demo purposes on YT.
Hi Gas. I just want to thank you for the great help you gave me in my dark beginnings with the R20. By helping people like this you can only achieve the success that you have achieved. I am very happy and I wish you all the best. Hug.
You led me to the realization that it's a Zoom R20 I need. Still I haven't got it - I put my hopes for a sweet Black Friday deal... I'm an Android guy, and your description of the benefits of the App has also convinced me to enter the Apple echo system. I will get a recent iPad for the R20 app. I share your irritation of the one dollar for the app and also long for a TRACK VIEW on the app. But keep Zoom advised on that! Should be possible in a future update, right? I'm a one man band singer/songwriter and I don't want a plethora of pedals and cables. R20 will be just right for me!
If you are a 1 man singer songwriter, and you want built-in effects in your recording unit, and you want to do some light track editing directly on the device, then the R20 can be a good purchase for your needs. And Zoom does run legitimate sales on pretty much all their products throughout the year. They just cycle which products are on sale at a given time. A week ago their hybrid mixers were on sale for $100 off. I wouldn't be surprised to see their multitrackers go $50-100 off sometime soon, so waiting a few weeks could be a prudent move. However, if you are an Android person, I highly advise you wait on the bluetooth-tablet functionality. It doesn't really give you anything new. It's just a bigger screen to navigate the Fader View screen. If you already had an iPad, sure go ahead and get the BTA-1 adapter if you want. But if you do not have an iPad already, I recommend you just get the R20 and see if working directly on the device suits your needs. I rarely use the iPad app as I've grown comfortable using the R20 physical faders + touchscreen. I only recommend getting a iPad specifically for the R20 if you are a drummer with a full acoustic set and you want to set up your R20 on a desk to record something while you are mic'd up behind some drums. And even then I'd say wait first and get comfortable with the R20 before shelling out a couple hundred more dollars for a tablet for the R20. If you want to buy something with your R20, I highly recommend you spend a couple dollars on a stylus for it. You'll get far more immediate use out of that than you will with the BTA-1 and an iPad: ua-cam.com/video/lwf71awiqmg/v-deo.html
For sure. I had 37 subscribers at that point and he single handedly doubled my numbers overnight. It was a massive boost for me. Saw him at a convention last year and got to personally thank him. It was awesome. Thanks for always coming back to watch! Much appreciated!
Hey Gaz, i find it difficult to judge the sound levels...Master fader, headphone level...also i find that i have to push faders right up and then back down to get the level how i want it. Is it because i have my effects on too high? And they are bleeding over my other channels? Are there any simple tricks, or remedies to quell my frustration..??
I assume you are talking about the R20 or R12? For the faders, in particular with the R20, they will save where you left them if you flip between Tracks 1-8 and 9-16. Those are the "ghost" faders you see in the fader view screen. So you do have to move the physical fader up to match the ghost fader first before you can adjust the volume for that track. Personally, usually keep the headphone volume around the halfway point, give or take. And for the master fader, I really try to keep the outgoing mix to stay between -14 and -6dB, and hopefully most of the time it's hanging out between -10dB and -8dB. I adjust my individual track faders to try to keep my master fader at that level. As you add more tracks to your song, you might have to lower more track faders a touch to keep the master volume under control. For the send effect patches, whatever send effect you pick, you can apply it to the other tracks. So in the individual setting for each track you can raise or lower the send effect level. If you pick a reverb+compression patch and you want to apply it to Track 1, that same reverb+compression patch can also be applied to Track 2 and 3 and so on. So you want to touch the track settings for each track and lower the send effect level to 0 if you don't want the effect patch to "bleed" over to the other tracks. Hopefully that helps?
Awesome! Got me hooked on the R20 for sure.
Thanks, and hope the R20 has worked out well for ya!
