i have a table in a database in hive. For the basic query below ,How should I do a query over a specific date range? say between 01-12-2015 to 02-12-2015.

where name='unknown
in case of external table we intake table from external source , so does it mean the table is in cloudera platform or in window environment

As you said Hive is used for structured data only so just to correct you hive mostly query Nosql which are likely to have unstructured data in it like video, image file or the click events of a website.For example LinkedIn use hive to query data from different data clusters to get sample data for analysis which is not a structured data anyway. Please correct me if i missed something.
Nosql is used for hbase friend

It was a nice explanation, but at one step I am confused a bit--
in loding data from local file system, the file path in command
hive> load data local in path into Table
the file type is not defined..
can we take csv file to load data, or what other type of file we can take????
it generally takes txt but we can load csv as well if we have created a csv file
how many days do u want to completed the hive ?
If it can't INSERT, UPDATE or DELETE, HIVE seems to be inflexible apart from being able to carry out queries in unstructered/ structered BIG DATA environment. Is there another program which does better than HIVE eg. it can insert, update, delete unstructered or structured BIG DATA?
As of Hive version 0.14.0: INSERT...VALUES, UPDATE, and DELETE are now available with full ACID support.
INSERT ... VALUES Syntax:
INSERT INTO TABLE tablename [PARTITION (partcol1[=val1], partcol2[=val2] ...)] VALUES values_row [, values_row ...]
